Fantastic experience: I have been coming to Stumptown for nearly a decade; the atmosphere is inclusive, diverse, welcoming and with a well trained & educated staff that provide a fun yet safe environment for all- regardless of one’s fitness level or goal. I have owned a CrossFit gym with my husband and been to several others throughout the country & I continue to return to Stumptown for a few reasons- I feel welcomed regardless of where I am in my own fitness journey, I can count on professional and safe instruction where I am not expected to do things that may put my safety at risk but I am expected to come in and work & I highly respect how Tony and his crew run an establishment that is not attempting to serve only the elite but all people, at all levels, with one mission~ to join others in a tight knit community toward the achievement of being better than we were before we set foot in the doors of Stumptown. I read a review today, that quite honestly made my blood boil. I know the owners of this box, my husband has trained and coached here; the coaches and the members embody the true intention of the foundations of CrossFit; COMMUNITY and that regardless of ones limitations and private or public battles with fitness, there is a place here for everyone! The review left by the past member body shamed one of our coaches~ the remainder of her complaint (which I was interested in attempting to understand) became irrelevant the SECOND I read her words that were hurtful, body shaming, ignorant and completely opposite of everything we as a CrossFit community and a Stumptown community stand for. That is all I have to say about that review- I wish to end this review on a positive note and hope anyone who is considering checking us out will feel at ease from reading what I have to say: You are welcome here, you are safe here & regardless of where you are in your fitness journey, you are AMAZING by simply having the courage to try something new- and know, if ever that is trespassed by a member, it will NOT be taken lightly because we are a community and we are here to build each other up and nothing less than that will do. Thank you Tony & Lin Edgerton & staff! You are amazing!

Fantastic experience: To Lara M, A couple things: I'm sorry you felt the need to try and cut me down behind a keyboard. I have been with the CrossFit community, specifically StumpTown, for several years and I am here to say your comments are a clear representation of what CrossFit as a community does not and will not EVER stand for. As far as not doing the movements, if you had taken the time to listen to my explanation, you would have understood that I am here to show members modified movements. I lean on our amazing athletes who can do the Rx movements to show examples of them. For someone who is a "natural healer and an emotionally intelligent person", I would hope that you would better understand that cyber bullying is uncalled for. I have dealt my entire life with people cutting me down and I like to think I've developed a thick skin when it comes to non-sense like this. I know what goals I have accomplished with the incredible help and support from this community. I'm happy to have a face to face conversation rather than continue the bullying and degrading. StumpTown is all about supporting and building each other up.

Fantastic experience: I have been a member at CrossFit Stumptown for six years. The owners, coaches and members have become my CrossFit family. It is my community. We build each other up with encouragement and motivation. Reading some recent reviews from a few disgruntled FORMER members was quite upsetting and even offensive. One of the first things that a new person would notice about Stumptown is the diversity of the members, young/old, short/tall, large/small, quiet/loud, athletes/beginners, and everything in-between. The only thing that the coaches ask of its members is to show up and try. Simple. A review submitted recently called out one of the coaches as being obese...how dare you shame a coach simply because they don't fit your physical image of being a good coach? You have no idea what this person has accomplished since starting her fitness journey only about a year ago! She has struggled with insecurities and body image issues for most of her life. Thanks to our CrossFit community those are becoming a thing of the past. She has lost 76 pounds, has gained strength, endurance and the most valuable CONFIDENCE. She competes in local competitions and consistently encourages everyone around her. She is known to say, "If I can do this, anyone can." She has a passion for teaching and coaching, not to mention helping out around the gym as many of us do. It is after all, a positive community atmosphere. To the FORMER member(s) that have left negative comments recently, your presence in the gym was unwelcome. Your actions were unsafe, you were inconsiderate to other members and it was concerning to many the behaviors that you demonstrated on a regular basis. You were both unapproachable and made others feel uncomfortable. It is not normal behavior to wear dark sunglasses indoors during a workout regularly. Honestly, it is kind of creepy. It is one thing to be unhappy with your experience, but to say that a coach is not good enough simply because of their physical appearance is simply cruel and ignorant. That coach has more kindness and good intention in her soul than most. Maybe take a step back and attempt to understand what CrossFit is really all about.

Fantastic experience: The best! So much fun and enthusiasm. I searched for a cross fit gym all over the East Side. Landed at CrossFit Stumptown on the advice of a friend. This place has a true friendly, community feel. As a woman I feel welcome. The owner is awesome, his tea, seems committed to my success. They also have Mob Cycle spin studio next door. Excellent all around.
