The word "nexus" means a central and important point or place. That is how I view my gym. This gym will be the central point where the style of teaching jiu jitsu will evolve.
Nexus Jiu Jitsu: Opinions
Fantastic experience: This gym is awesome! Andrew’s instruction is detailed and informed and the gym members are skilled. Highly recommend to anyone who’s considered starting or who’s already moving up the ranks.
Fantastic experience: Great environment, awesome coaches that are patient, helpful, and also push you, and a solid group of training partners. Best gym I’ve trained at.
Fantastic experience: Positive: Communication , Quality
Fantastic experience: Great students and teachers
Fantastic experience: Great students and teachers
Fantastic experience: Positive: Professionalism , Quality Best gym and coaches in town hands down.
Fantastic experience: Love it. Very clean, family friendly, good variety of bodies and skill levels to work with. Since day one everyone at the gym has been friendly and supportive. Coach Andrew has a very good way of explaining content, connecting to the students and making sure we understand the what we are working on. I've tried few gyms in the area and this one clicked with me the best. Highly recommend stopping in and giving few tries
Fantastic experience: Positive: Communication , Professionalism , Quality This is one of the best places that you can find for a great teacher and an amazing environment!!
Fantastic experience: Last spring, I was looking to get a jump start on my physical fitness, and I found Nexus and head coach Andrew online (just googling jui jitsu gyms). I've been training at Nexus for 8 months now. I had no martial arts training before this, and only one season of JV wrestling over a million years ago (I'm no spring chicken). I'm a dad and I have a job, so I needed a safe and positive environment in which to train. Nexus is that and more, it's a real community. I often bring my kids to sit on the side and watch during class, and when they are old enough for the kids classes I will be on the side watching them. I've done a lot of group fitness activities over the years (crossfit, boot camps, running groups, etc) but this one is the best in terms of the commuinty/fitness combination. Crossfit was second, but the injuries in that sport were too much for me. This is a great alternative for athletes looking for a demanding physical experience that won't break you. Drew is a great coach. I don't know much about jiu jitsu but I am an educator, so I know a lot about teaching. He is really good at breaking down concepts in a way that is meaningful for newbies like me and also for advanced students. The lessons are structured and you get constant feedback. I could go on and on. Can't recommend this gym enough.
Fantastic experience: This is about Professor Andrew. I have been looking around for a Jiu Jitsu coach for several years in my advanced age and I found him teaching and training in the bay area. I am still a white belt but I never found someone with as much integrity and teaching skills as Drew. He has many true leadership qualities that the children who train under him will absorb and learn from as they mature into adulthood. I have two daughters and I would not hesitate to have them under Drew's tutelage. The people of Folsom will soon find out how lucky they are to have Drew as their teacher and mentor in the community.
Fantastic experience: I have had the pleasure of attending Andrew's classes, and they are a high caliber of quality. Andrew is cerebral is in approach to teaching Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, and is able to easily articulate his curriculum to his students. He fosters a joyful training environment and knows how to make you get a good workout. If you want good technique, a family oriented training environment, and an overall great place to train then Nexus Jiu-Jitsu would be your optimal choice.
Fantastic experience: I have watched Andrew's Jiu Jitsu journey from white belts rolling in the garage to traveling the globe learning from, rolling with, and competing with the best the world has to offer. There is very few people who put more time and energy in to studying and practicing the craft of Jiu Jitsu. I have learned so much from Andrew as a friend and a teammate, and now as an instructor that truly leveled my game up. You know if he is teaching you something that it works against the best! Stopped by Nexus Jitsu and not only learned some awesome techniques with some super helpful details, but got some great rolls in with a wide variety of different belt colors. Very clean gym, with nice mats, and plenty of room to roll, anybody who gets to learn from Andrew on a daily is truly fortunate. I will be dropping in as often as possible!
Fantastic experience: My family lives in Placerville and we train at EDHBJJ. Andrew has been coaching and training with us for some time at EDH preparing to open his gym. He is a true class act and extraordinary instructor. I’m stoked for his academy open and do drop ins. If you’re in the Folsom area looking to train this is the spot. OSS!
Fantastic experience: I have trained in gyms and under professors from all around the world, yet, never have I met anyone dedicated to the art of teaching martial arts as much as Coach Andrew. He has such an amazing way of communicating and explaining techniques focusing on the smallest intricacies and details that will make a difference in anyone’s game from kids to adults. If he’s not teaching jiu jitsu, he’s training, if he’s not training jiu jitsu, he’s studying jiu jitsu, its always something! I remember once asking him how he never gets burnt out from teaching and he responded, “there is nothing more satisfying for me than passing down knowledge and seeing people apply that knowledge.” Coach Andrew is the equivalent of an encyclopedia when it comes down to martial arts. He is a great role model for kids and adults alike. His discipline, consistency, work ethic, and passion are contagious! I have also had the pleasure to work along side with him teaching kids classes and the kids all, literally all, respect and love him! This gym is a gem and Coach Andrew is not just an amazing coach and athlete but he is also an amazing person to be around!
Fantastic experience: Drew is the funniest, kindest and most patient guy I have ever met. Not only is he a great teacher and a great coach, he is an even better friend. 11/10 recommend learning from him :)
Fantastic experience: I highly recommend Nexus Jiu-jitsu because Andrew is a great teacher with so much knowledge in Jiu-jitsu & self-defense.
Fantastic experience: Andrew is one of those people who eats, sleeps, and breaths bjj. I've trained at a number of schools in a variety of different martial arts and even after a few years training with Andrew I am still amazed with what he has to offer. Whether you are brand new to martial arts or have been doing jiu jitsu for years you will be very happy with Nexus Jiu Jitsu.
Fantastic experience: You're in good hands here. I've trained with Footy and learned alot from him. He's a great coach, but he's a solid teammate, loyal friend and all around good human ❤
Fantastic experience: Awesome place to learn. Love it there.
Fantastic experience: I started training with Andrew through the recommendation of a friend, and now have a newfound love and respect for BJJ! As a woman who also does other martial arts, I've found BJJ to be one of the most effective for realistic self defense. No BS fake-knife slaps here! Learn how to most effectively break a body with your own body. Andrew is extremely articulate with his teaching style, and differs from other instructors in that he focuses on concepts rather than solely techniques. There's thousands of techniques in BJJ that are a feat to remember, but Andrew teaches concepts which makes learning the techniques flow much more easily! And it's still not easy, no one can buy their black belt, it can take decades to earn, which makes it even more fun and protects the integrity of the art. But whether or not you want to commit to the art or train for an amazing workout+usable self defense techniques then it's totally worth trying out. And Andrew is super chill, kind, and funny! You couldn't ask for a better coach.
Fantastic experience: Nexus is a well organized gym. Andrew is very detail oriented when teaching techniques and includes clear and concise lessons on concepts and how to apply them to self defense scenarios or competition. He’s committed to the growth of his students and is one of the best coaches I’ve had. I’m happy to be apart of the Nexus family and excited to watch this gym grow. :)
Fantastic experience: I moved here from Jordan about 3 years ago looking for some top notch jiu jitsu. I’ve been doing jiu jitsu for 11 years now and I have never seen anyone as intelligent in this sport. If you want to be the best you gotta learn from the best and I can tell you Andrew is one of the best out there.
Fantastic experience: As a white belt who has trained at many gyms because I move often, Andrew has been one of my favorite coaches. His way of breaking down techniques into easily understandable steps and giving reasons for each movement was very helpful for me. He is very approachable and easy to talk to, which allowed me to ask questions and receive thorough explanations. I highly recommend Andrew and his gym!
Fantastic experience: Positive: Communication , Professionalism , Quality
Fantastic experience: Andrew is an excellent, detail-oriented instructor with a great facility. He’s going to do great things in Folsom and operates with absolute integrity and no nonsense. Looking forward to working with him more! He’s even going to offer striking!
Fantastic experience: I’ve trained with Andrew many times at open mats and he has always been a great training partner and always gave me some good details on what I could work on (because he always submitted me) and explained then very well. If I was in the area I would definitely train with him.
Fantastic experience: Nexus jiu jitsu is a very well run gym. Andrew Kerfoot, the owner and instructor, is very inviting. He absolutely loves to teach the arts that he has dedicated his life to which is very evident in the passion he shows during his classes. He very lucidly and easily conveys the concepts behind the techniques of his martial arts. The kids just love him and can’t wait to go to class with him. He offers a wide variety of different classes with special emphasis on different age groups. If you are interested in learning a new life skill, developing self defense concepts or making new friends, stop by and say hello!
Fantastic experience: I've been on the mats with Andrew Kerfoot for about 5 years now. Not only is he a very technical bjj practitioner but he is also a great instructor. He is able to break down complicated, multi-step techniques in a way that anyone can digest and learn. I've learned many BJJ concepts and principles from Andrew that I still use on the mats today.
Fantastic experience: Great place for beginners and more advanced students. Andrew is a great teacher and it's a fun and welcoming environment.
Fantastic experience: Positive: Communication , Professionalism , Quality We love this gym! Instructor is incredibly knowledgeable, is amazing with kids and people new to the sport and those familiar with it. I can’t emphasize this enough: BRING THE WHOLE FAMILY! Everyone benefits!
