Our comment from FitFit United States about Aberdeen Athletic Center:
Aberdeen Athletic Center offers a variety of modern fitness equipment and a clean, well-maintained environment that many users appreciate. The gym is known for its friendly staff and accessibility, boasting 24/7 operational hours, making it convenient for Active Duty military and their families. Users highlight the center's comprehensive selection of weights, cardio machines, and functional fitness equipment, ensuring that there is something for everyone looking to work out. Many reviews describe it as the best gym in town, providing an atmosphere conducive to fitness goals.
However, some users have expressed disappointment regarding the availability of staff and the limitations on access for veterans and contractors, which can occasionally lead to scheduling inconveniences. Additionally, the closure of specific facilities, such as the basketball court and sauna, has left some gym-goers wishing for more versatile recreational options. Nonetheless, the overall sentiment remains positive, with the majority finding it to be an excellent place to maintain fitness.
- Open 24/7 for Active Duty and eligible personnel.
- Well-equipped with a variety of machines and free weights.
- Friendly and helpful staff.
- Clean and organized facilities.
Note: The gym applies specific access restrictions during certain hours, primarily for Active Duty members.
Aberdeen Athletic Center: Opinions
Fantastic experience: Completed for workout
Positive experience: Good gym, very spacious. Sign up for access during business hours.
Fantastic experience: I really like this gym it has a huge variety of things you can do my only problem with this place is it's always a lot of people here.
Positive experience: The sauna was amazing! I sure do hope that the people in charge of the budgets and fitness programs keep the sauna up and runming. I do have concerns about water quality, I sure hope that its all well managed and taken care of. Alot of trust and faith is put into the leaders of the armed forces and this nation. No photos to share, but this place is legit. Dry sauna gets hot!
Fantastic experience: Great food!
Fantastic experience: 24 hour access and always clean. Love it
Fantastic experience: Nice variety of equipment
Fantastic experience: The gym has all the equipment you could need. Staff is friendly. Not to busy most of the day. Be aware 6am to 8 am weekdays is military in uniform only.
Negative experience: very disappointed at lack of staff when i needed to inquire at a time that worked for my schedule
Positive experience: Good place to work out.
Negative experience: It's okay but no where to play basketball or volleyball
Positive experience: Great staff, friendly and clean facilities.
Fantastic experience: Best gym in town
Fantastic experience: Everything you need, no excuse
Negative experience: Don’t you dare drop the bumper plate weighs on the 5” thick rubber platform made to absorb the dripping my of plates…
Fantastic experience: Nice gym. Crowded at times, but it gets the job done.
Fantastic experience: Great equipment and free weights. Rarely crowded, friendly staff.
Positive experience: UPDATED 2/2023 Hours of operation: OPEN 24/7! It's a functional fitness room now with new ACFT equipment for soldier readiness. - Spin Classes are back and are held here at the gym, Tuesdays & Thursdays, 11:30-12:30 pm. Call the REC center! - The small gym (320) is permanently closed. -Hoyle gym is OPEN, hours are different. -This gym is large. Quite impressive. -There are various weights and machines. -There's a huge cardio area in the front of the gym. -There is a racquetball room. -Water fountains. -Sanitizing wipes. -There is a female and male locker room equipped with toilet stalls, sinks, showers, lockers that can be locked, and a sauna. -A room for various muscle endurance, strengthening, power, and training. -Large parking lot and easy entrance access for handicapped. There is a dress code for the gym.
Fantastic experience: The 24 hr access had me sold just cant come during PT hour 5am -8am.
Positive experience: I really enjoy working out at this gym when I am in the area. Glad I caught so.eone to check me in before they left for the day so I could have access while I was there. They have a lot of great equipment and seem to be adding. Hoping they update their quad extension machine before I return next time.
Positive experience: For starters, it's FREE.....you can't really be picky when what you're getting is free and you are not paying a dime for it... (I guess it comes out of our tax dollars).... The staff is friendly and the athletic center has newer equipment and is layed out better than when it was under the MTF.... Only thing that isn't great is the morning hours, from 6am to 8am is reserved for active duty. And the Saunas have not bee. Operational.
Fantastic experience: Love this gym, but really wish they’d fix the sauna. Months waiting on repair, spring 2023.
Fantastic experience: It's clean and the equipment is well taken care of.
Negative experience: They dont let veterans or contractors put in work here which doesnt make a lick of sense.
Negative experience: This place is good l guess if your active duty. But as a retiree this place stinks. They have horrible hours. They are rarely open and the staff is equally worthless. The base commander is clearly indifferent to allow such discriminatory policies.
Fantastic experience: Great gym! 24/7 for any CAC holder. The weights will be heavy enough to meet your goals. Dumbbells go beyond 130lbs and they have a whole CrossFit and cardio section with over 10 squat racks and rower machines.
Fantastic experience: Probably the best military installation athletic center I've been too.
Fantastic experience: It has been about three years since I was last here, and since the rollout of the ACFT they have significantly expanded their equipment, though, at the cost of the basketball court. The gym now has ample squat racks, dumbells, kettlebells, pull up bars, and other functional fitness equipment. Serious improvement from my perspective.
Fantastic experience: Everything is clean and always organized. Since nothing is perfect and we should find ways to always improve, I'd like to suggest an improvement in the hours of availability. I've learned we all have to dance around these hours because they just don't match the majorities schedule.
Fantastic experience: Excellent equipment, friendly staff
Fantastic experience: Awesome, Gym!
Positive experience: Overall gym has various types of exercise equipment to use
Fantastic experience: Great gym, fully stocked!
Fantastic experience: There's a lot of top of the line equipment at this gym. Hopefully they will become 24hrs in the future.
Fantastic experience: Awesome, Gym!
Positive experience: Currently being remodeled
Positive experience: Please open Hoyle gym and expand hours.
Positive experience: Small gym but gets the job done
Positive experience: The gym exists only because of the soldiers. If it weren't for the them, the gym would be closed and forever gone.
Negative experience: Ever since they put the "ACFT Training Equipment" in their rules have changed a ridiculous amount. And the rules are not posted so you don't even know if you're breaking any until one of the staff members tell you. Definitely not my favorite gym anymore.
Positive experience: A little cramped, but at the right time, there are lots of options. Would like to see the new functional fitness equipment installed for ACFT prep.
Positive experience: Pretty nice facility. They charge now for classes. The free classes that I took didn't start on time, so I will assume that doesn't happen anymore. The front desk staff are super friendly. I'm shocked that there isn't a decent lap pool on post. There is enough land by the athletic center for that!
Positive experience: This gym has come a long way since I been going and it's getting better. Loving the new setup and all the extra equipment they finally purchase. Will be using this gym format while.
Fantastic experience: On post gym. You'll need post access but it's well equipped and offers 24/7
Fantastic experience: Okay soo this place is definitely for adults only and if you have a military or military spouse ID card. Other than that if you want to bring a friend. The main card holder will have to be present the entire time they are there. Older kids like teens will have to have a card too. But there's really nothing to do other than exercise or play basketball. I would recommend NOT bringing little kids. They do not have a babysitter area. Equipment of all types: ellipticals, treadmills, walking ladding, weigh machines, leg presses, punching bags, and many more. They have a couple inside courts on the side. It has its own set of lockers for each sex (male or female). Saunas are inside the locker rooms along with showers and restrooms. Lockers are provided, but bring your own lock to keep your stuff safe. There is a drink vending machine or the water fountain. Or just bring your own drink. If you bring your own music device have headphones or earplugs to keep it to yourself. You must check in at the front of the building with the receptionist or main on duty upon entry.
Fantastic experience: Great people, clean facility.
Fantastic experience: Good gym and nice they opened it for 24 hrs.
Fantastic experience: My home court advantage.
Positive experience: Great equipment and staff, lousy layout.
Negative experience: Do people work out in Aberdeen?
Negative experience: Small unimpressive and the jokers that work out here don't know gym etiquette especially the couple that like to do their couple workouts and take up multiple machines and take forever while chatting.
Fantastic experience: Excellent facility.. great staff!
Fantastic experience: I'm at the gym every week. It's never crowded and it has everything you need to get in shape.
Fantastic experience: Great gym
Fantastic experience: Awesome place to get a good workout
Fantastic experience: Good !
Fantastic experience: Great facilities, clean, well lit, great choice of machines.
Positive experience: Standard MWR gym, no complaints
Positive experience: Great Gym on base. I just wish they didn't discontinue their towel program.
Positive experience: The gym has all the basics. Weight room is often crowded.
Positive experience: Good equipment, no attention to details unless it's pointed out. Lazy manager and some employees take that as lead for their own behavior.
Fantastic experience: Very nice no complaints
Fantastic experience: good selection of weights, cardio, and machines. indoor court. not too busy.
Positive experience: On post gym that is accessible and not pretentious.
Positive experience: While tdy its a decent gym. only one squat rack so plan ahead there. Lots of cardio available.
Positive experience: A small gym but has everything you need to get a full workout. Two racket ball courts and a full size indoor basketball court.
Positive experience: Typical Army fitness center, nothing great but nothing bad either. Weight room can get a bit cramped, I only went in the AM I can only imagine the afternoon must have been very cramped.
