Fantastic experience: The building is very old BUT, it is so clean, they have everything you need to workout any way you want. They have an attentive staff and are always so friendly! Also, they have an amazing massage therapist there, ask for Sandra Corbitt's information and schedule a post workout massage...you will not be disappointed!

Fantastic experience: Long time member and former YMCA executive. This branch was where I started my YMCA career teaching water aerobics. 22 years later the torch has been passed to my 15 year old daughter, who now works at this branch. The constant over these years is the Y's mission and commitment to FAMILY People who I trained are in leadership positions supervising my daughter. This goes to show the culture of the YMCA. ITS THE OLDEST US NON PROFIT.... for a reason. The Y prides itself on taking care of its employees and members. The goal is for everyone to buy into the organization to take RESPONSIBILITY for its existence.

Fantastic experience: Exercising at the Downtown YMCA is like stepping into a piece of living history. The building is one of Knoxville’s finest examples of early twentieth century architecture, exhibiting a peculiar Mediterranean Revival in Appalachia. Since its completion in 1929 the facility has undergone extensive renovations and today provides all of the exercise equipment you’d expect at your local Y. The basement pool, in particular, is a must-see as its 20 yard length predates the standardization of competitive swimming pools. Whether by design or accident, the subway tiles and regular columns closely emulate the environment of 1930s-era subway stations in New York City (but, of course, without the rats).

Fantastic experience: Positive: Quality Friendly customer service, inexpensive ($12) walk in fee for those of us out-of-towners. Nice selection of equipment and clean facilities.

Fantastic experience: My favorite YMCA location in Knoxville, except for the parking. You can park across the street in the parking garage, and it's $2 parking for y members. Lots of great workout options and huge locker rooms.

Fantastic experience: Positive: Communication , Professionalism , Quality Huge fan of this location! The staff are incredibly friendly and helpful. The view from the cardio and Matrix machines is unparalleled, great indoor pool, locker rooms are nice.

Fantastic experience: Love it here. Great staff and assortment of weights/machines. The building is old, but yet keep it clean! Getting swole here and you can too! Give it a shot.

Fantastic experience: I had a membership for over a yr & didn't use it, whn I finally decided to go I found out tht my senior discount was not gonna be good after Dec 31st. I wish I had gone whn i first signed up, it's a wonderful place it's clean, friendly & full of all kinds of exercise equipment! I was shown how to properly use the equipment, the staff was eager to help me in anyway they cld. There's so much to do here from swimming weight lifting yoga etc. If you get a chance go, it's conveniently located near my home too.

Fantastic experience: I like to work out here. I like the quirky old building, the downtown location, the good vibes. I took a hiatus but will probably renew my membership here soon to get the guns and buns back. Watch out!

Fantastic experience: Staff is super friendly and helpful. The equipment is kept updated and in tip top condition, and the classes and programs offer something for everyone. The historic building is great, however it does offer challenges in getting around the building if you're mobility-limited. Ample parking available in the lot or across the street at the garage, which is cheap during week days and free on evenings and weekends.

Fantastic experience: If your looking for more than just a bunch of know it alls like "golds" or some lame excuse to call interval training "cross training" THIS YMCA BLOWS EVERY GYM OUT...INCLUDING THAT SO CALLED NATIONAL FITNESS EXCUSE FOR A COMPANY. The Lyndsay Young Downtown YMCA has free weights, ( actual eleinko plates), machines, Olympic weight lifting room in the ATTIC, basketball for real ballers, a lap pool, great classes, sauna, racquet ball, etc. Family atmosphere with a piano and and pool table and some wii games to check out while you wait. Don't forget the location DOWNTOWN...

Fantastic experience: The downtown Y has a LOT of options! They have four stories of classrooms, exercise machines, and offices. They also have a daycare room, a beautiful open seating area with a TV and piano, and a chiropractor in the building. It's a beautiful building, as well. I've only been going here for a few weeks, but it already feels like a second home.
