Barry's Burlingame: Opinions
Fantastic experience: Great place for a HIIT workout, especially if you are a treadmill runner. Also super convenient location in downtown BG
Fantastic experience: Amazing team here that really cares. Besides it is a great work out!
Fantastic experience: This is a legit, high-intensity workout focused around a pair of treadmill running sessions. You can't avoid dripping with sweat and feeling good afterwards that you completed a hard workout.
Fantastic experience: Positive: Professionalism

Fantastic experience: This is my first experience with workout bootcamps which are dime a dozen around the area. I was not happy with my gym (gyms, actually) memberships as I switched from 3 different gyms within the last 3 months. I was considering going to Equinox until one Monday night I randomly stopped by Barry's and even though they were closed a nice guy (now I know his name is Ryan and he's great) gave us a tour and I realized I was sold right away. I am so happy to be their customer. They are super friendly, the place is nice, their shower/body products smell like heaven, they have their own smoothie bar, but the main part is workouts (of course). Those are absolutely great. And, in contrast to Orange Theory they have this "double floor" option when you can stay on the floor all hour and only do weights (which I love since I'm not big on running). My fav coach is Matt, his workouts are very well structured and his explanations are super clear, you know exactly what and when you supposed to switch to the next exercise, I never feel lost and confused. He also constantly cheering everybody up so that even if you're super tired Matt is there for you to help go thru the struggle. Struggle of getting better. Go Barry's!
Fantastic experience: UPDATE 3/24/19: So... after my awful experience a few weeks ago, Lauren, the manager, reached out to me in a timely fashion to apologize for the poor customer service and treatment and invited me back to try a class for free. I was skeptical but given the great customer service I thought they deserved a second chance. I took class with Matt this morning and it was a great experience! Barry's is definitely the boutique gym experience, complete with eucalyptus cold towels and protein smoothies ordered at the bar. The workout itself is classic high intensity intervals, with half the time on a treadmill and the other half on the floor with weights and body weight exercises. The vibe was great and if you're someone who feeds off of others' energy in group classes, you'll LOVE Barry's. After 50 minutes I was drenched in sweat and I felt that I had an amazing workout that really challenged me at every turn! As an Orangetheory fanatic, I will say that I missed the rowing a bit, but Barry's is every bit as intense if not more than OTF. I have to thank Lauren for reaching out and inviting me to come back to give Barry's a try, because it's a great workout and I had an awesome time today. It's definitely more pricey than OTF but you are paying for the boutique experience and it's worth every penny. ________________________________________________________________________ 3/7/19 original review: If I could give the staff ZERO STARS I would do it! I signed up for my first class at 6 am. As an Orangetheory Fitness addict I was super excited to try Barry's out. I got to the studio 15 minutes early (note: 5:45 am) as they asked to check in and get oriented. The class started and I was at my station warming up and someone came up to me and told me I was at her station. I walked outside, confused, and the front told me they never checked me in and allowed someone who came in late to take the last spot. So... not quite the first time experience I was hoping for. No amends were made and no call from the studio manager. I really hope they get their act together, but for now, it's back to Orangetheory for me. If you're looking for a good workout AND amazing customer service that makes you feel like family, check out Orangetheory instead.
Fantastic experience: Everything is good except smoothie is too expensive
Fantastic experience: I go to Barry’s in NYC all the time. Came here while visiting my family for the holidays. The facility is clean. Looks like all their classes are 50 mins unlike the usual 60 min classes I take in NY.
Fantastic experience: I did four classes at Barry's and loved them. Three of these were over 3 consecutive days. Perhaps what I learned can help you decide if Barry's is for you (each pro has a connected con): Pros: -I hate running but, for some reason, Barry's made it fun. -Barry's workouts are intense, high energy, and you can't help but push yourself. If you struggle to get a good workout in by yourself you may benefit from this change of pace as I did. -The coaches are accommodating, friendly, and professional. -Barry's shakes are excellent and it's such a treat to have one waiting for you post-workout. -The staff is just wonderful. They're positive, helpful, and encouraging. Cons: -There's no escape from running unless you do "double floor" which is brutal. It would be awesome if they incorporated bikes or rowing machines. However, I imagine that would be pure chaos with the current model. -If you're getting back in to shape like I was; It's really easy to go all out and need two days to recover. It's hard to hold back enough that you're ready to come back the next day. Also, Barry's workout are LOUD. I highly recommend using the earplugs they provide. -You often end up playing a game of "exercise telephone" as you watch your neighbor who's watching their neighbor watch the coach. This can leave some people confused as to what exactly they're supposed to be doing and how. Stand close to the coach's station if you're like me and can't see that well. -The shakes can stack up and add an extra $10-14 per workout if you're not careful. -The way sessions are priced leaves you paying nearly three times as much as other gyms if you work out every day. It's essentially the opposite of a flat rate gym membership by having you pay per session instead of per month. I hope that's helpful. I loved my workouts and look forward to poking my head in from time to time for one heck of a workout. Thanks Barry's!
Fantastic experience: You're going to get a really great workout in a ridiculously nice space. Even the men's locker room, for example, looks like it should be in a magazine. Check this place out!
