Our comment from FitFit United States about Arvada YMCA:
Welcome to the Arvada YMCA, a vibrant fitness center located in Arvada, United States. This facility is known for its clean and well-maintained premises, abundant workout equipment, and a wide range of classes suitable for all ages.
Highlights of the Arvada YMCA:
- Friendly and professional staff that provide excellent customer service.
- Clean and modern facilities, which include updated locker rooms and a variety of fitness machines.
- Adequate parking facilities for convenience.
- A diverse range of classes and programs, including swim lessons highly recommended by members.
- Child watch services and family-friendly activities, making it suitable for members of all ages.
- On-site amenities such as a steam room, pool, and updated shower facilities.
While the Arvada YMCA has received numerous positive reviews, some members expressed concerns about limited access to facilities during peak times, particularly during summer camps. Additionally, there have been reports of certain amenities facing maintenance issues, like the steam room. However, the management team is actively working on facility improvements and addressing member feedback to ensure everyone has a great experience.
Overall, the Arvada YMCA stands out as a welcoming community gym that offers great value for fitness and recreation, making it a wonderful choice for individuals and families alike.
Arvada YMCA: Opinions
Positive experience: Ok gym but multiple trainers tie up multiple equipment that has little to no redundancy for extended periods of time. Kind of inconsiderate to other members.
Positive experience: Positives: This location has adequate parking (downtown can be challenging). The facilities and staff are nice. Front desk staff are awesome. Beef: It’s not fair to members to allow summer camps full use of facilities. I want to shoot hoops before I lift. I pay a monthly membership for access to these facilities. It doesn’t make sense that all three courts are packed with screaming children and members don’t have anywhere to play. More facility room should be built to accommodate or less summer camp capacity should be offered. I could understand if it was maybe an hour overlap or something… not a 6 hour block of time where you may or may not be able to get a court.
Kate,Thank you for highlighting the positives of our location, including the adequate parking and our friendly staff. We appreciate your feedback regarding the use of facilities during our summer camp program. As the main providers of childcare in our area, ensuring a safe and enjoyable summer for children is a priority, which sometimes requires adjustments to facility usage.Typically, we do not schedule childcare activities in the Small Gym except in cases of inclement weather. This space is available for activities like shooting hoops when fitness classes are not in session. We acknowledge your concerns about the availability of courts during the summer camp period and understand the importance of maintaining access for all members. We are continually exploring ways to enhance our facilities, including potential expansions, which would alleviate these challenges. Your feedback is invaluable as we plan for future summer camps and facility improvements. Thank you for your support of the YMCA of Metro Denver!
Negative experience: The steam room has been broken for 20 days, supposedly was fixed yesterday and is now broken again. If you list an amenity, you should do everything to make sure you have the amenity. After talking to other members, this occurred for approximately 3 months last year, which tells me this is a reoccurring issue that hasn't been solved. This a major part of my daily workout and to list an amenity, it should be addressed if not working. Unfortunately, I signed up for an annual membership otherwise I would go to a place that provided the amenities listed.
Fantastic experience: Sarah in membership and Joe in wellness did an amazing job helping my household get set up for egym. They were accommodating to our previous experience with the system and streamlined the process for us! The experience helped to quell some doubts I’ve had about this location.
Briana - thank you for sharing your feedback. We are glad that Sarah and Joe could provide you and your family such a positive experience.
Positive experience: I don't understand all the haterade in these reviews. I've been a gym rat for 20+ years and this is a great gym for an old school Arnold workout with a touch of crossfit. Locker rooms are updated but the bathrooms look old... BUT I will tell you the showers and bathrooms are way cleaner than 24 hour. Solid gym.
Anthony - We appreciate your kind words about the Arvada Y. Thank you.
Positive experience: Great gym if you’re ok with only 2/3 of what you pay for being operational at any one time. Typical Y where ages 8–80 get the short end of the stick
Positive experience: Nice facility with lots of equipment, classes, pool and changing facilities. Great for families.
We appreciate the positive feedback - thank you!
Negative experience: We joined the YMCA, because our friends recommended the swim lessons. I joined in January and have had the worst time trying to schedule. Unlike other swim programs out there, the YMCA has no online registration for semi private or private lessons. You must get in touch with the aquatics Director, who is largely unresponsive and when she does respond is unhelpful in getting you basic information let alone complete to sign up. We’ve tried to bring our boys to play basketball on Saturday, but they are booked all day long for youth sports. We’d like to play in the pool, it’s closed still. There is no customer service line, I filled out a form to which someone responded, “We don’t refund per our policy.” Not even a “Sorry about your experience,” or assistance in getting scheduled with private swim lessons. Seems you’re out of luck if you don’t like your experience and they don’t mind just letting people go. After speaking with a couple other parents in the area, it seems I’m not the only one with this experience. Super bummed!
Katie - Thank you for bringing your concerns to our attention regarding your recent experiences at the YMCA. We understand the importance of addressing these issues promptly and providing you with the necessary information.Regarding the online registration for semi-private or private swim lessons, we are pleased to inform you that we are actively working on implementing an online scheduler. This program is currently in development with our digital engineers, and we anticipate its availability later this year, which will greatly enhance the registration process for all members. We are currently facing staffing shortages, particularly impacting lifeguard coverage, group swim lesson instructors, and swim team coaches. As a result, we are prioritizing certified instructors for group lessons to ensure the best experience for our members.Regarding the availability of the basketball gym on Saturdays, please note that the large gym is unavailable due to youth sports activities. However, we have our small gym available after fitness classes at the Arvada Y. You can find the schedule for both gyms on our website at the following link: (https://denverymca.org/court-schedules).We are actively addressing ongoing issues with the pool, including equipment maintenance and updates needed to bring it up to code. Our team is working diligently with various entities to resolve these issues as quickly as possible.Furthermore, we are in the process of overhauling our phone tree system to improve accessibility for our members. We anticipate making this update live today to ensure that you can reach a live representative when needed by calling 720-524-2700.Thank you for your continued support and patience as we work to improve our facilities and services. If you have any further questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to reach out to us directly.
Fantastic experience: I went into the Y yesterday for the first time to try a three day pass out and see if this would be my new gym. The gym is very clean and taken care of well but the biggest thing that stood out to me was the customer service and care that Lisa at the front desk gave me explaining the ins and outs of the gym, where things are, and making me feel very welcomed. Props to Lisa!
Jason, We are so happy to hear that Lisa made your visit to the Y a welcoming and positive one.
Fantastic experience: I've been to many YMCA'S coached for a couple of them. This YMCA is amazing. Starts with Management, Veronica is Phenomenal At her job of customer experience manager and GM. She leads the staff that's professional customer service oriented and holds the highest values in a fitness center i've ever seen. The facility itself is spotless and has everything you could ever want in a fitness center. You don't notice the experience of friendliness and are willing to help you the minute you walk in. They are all there to serve their customers and do so. I highly recommend this facility if you're looking for the best and all of it. This centers around.
David, Thank you so much for sharing your wonderful feedback about the Arvada Y. We're over the moon that you're experience has been such a positive one!
Negative experience: They cancelled some fall sports for first time this year, coaches don't show for toddler soccer camp, dancing class cancelled without anyone informing us, swim lessons cancelled and pool has been closed forever. Constant cancellations for all kinds of programs, AC didn't work for 2 months! in the Fyzcal PT room and management is very disorganized. Front Desk, Kid watch, preschool team are excellent.
Laura, We understand that your experience with the Y has not been without challenges. Our building is 25 years old and has had challenges of its own. We are working diligently to correct the maintenance issues as they arise. We have also had to contend with staffing concerns as many other industries have during recent years. We strive to create an atmosphere and experience that our members have come to expect. When we fall short, we persist. Thank you for your feedback.
Fantastic experience: My son was practically raised here between summer camps and sports. Nice weight room, fun pool area for the kids, nice outdoor fields as well.
Thank you, Daniel, for taking the time to leave some nice comments. We appreciate it!
Negative experience: It’s like a prison inside. And they took away the hot tub and have no plans on bringing it back or bringing back towels. Really greedy people ruining YMCA these days
Jesse, we are sorry that you did not find your experience at the Y a pleasant one. We appreciate the opportunity that you gave us to address these issues in numerous conversations. We are always working to improve our facilities, programs and processes – and communication directly with our experience team in the centers is invaluable. We continue to look forward to being a part of your health and wellness journey.
Fantastic experience: Kelly was extremely helpful and polite. Super happy to have reconnected with the ymca since I was a kiddo!! Can't wait to come back
Ryan, Thank you for the positive feedback and welcome back to the Y!
Fantastic experience: The best YMCA I have seen so far. The facility is gorgeous & clean. The staff is wonderful.
Yeom, glad you are having a great experience at our Y!
Fantastic experience: Great gym thats is always clean and very kind and helpful staff.
Thank you! Will share your comment with Arvada staff.
Positive experience: I have been going here for the past 10 years on and off due to COVID. The staff has always been friendly, helpful and accommodating. I arrive at the gym at 9am with my son to play basketball and workout. There is at least 200 kids in and outside the facility for summer camp. Using the entire basketball court, outside court, outside field and swimming pool. Additionally, they have classes scheduled in secondary gym with hoops until 3pm. I asked the front desk attendant when the building will be available for members to use it. The summer camp has all the above reserved Monday-Friday 630am-530pm. I was also informed this will be going almost every week all summer. I understand that the Y has kids camps, but there was no notice of this and to take up the entire facility all-day? There has to be a better solution to continue to allow members access to the facility.
Fantastic experience: I recently started going back to this gym after a two year hiatus. The place is clean, lots of different equipment and staff are friendly! I was having trouble scheduling some classes but once I called, Veronica answered and helped me through how to get started. I am now able to register for classes with ease. Thank you, Veronica! I look forward to many swim and yoga classes!
Jamie, thanks for the shoutout. We ❤️ Veronica too and all the staff at Arvada. Welcome to the Y and glad you are finding your stride.
Fantastic experience: Usually pretty great! Patrons leave the weights seats way too wet with cleaning fluid. There have been signs in the past but they need to be enforced and reposted. My shorts get wet from the person before me, or sometimes as much as 3 rotations before me. Never seems to be any staff on the weights floor lately. I know money is tight all over but still. We pay every month for facilities we hardly get to use. We ALWAYS wipe down our equipment, but if two of us from the same household are using it one after the other, we don't wipe in between. The equipment is often sopping from overspray
Thank you for bringing these issues to our attention. Pool staff should be staying until 1:30 PM. We will be extending our pool and facility hours in March to better accommodate our members. As soon as these hours have been confirmed, we will post the extended times. To best address issues of patrons cleaning (or lack of cleaning) equipment, please help us by letting a staff member know immediately. That way we can resolve the issue with the individual using the equipment. Additionally, we will be adding signage with friendly reminders about workout etiquette. Thank you, Susan, for your review and input.
Fantastic experience: My family and I (kids, wife, parents) have been members for 10+ years. The Y is a great place for whatever you need in health and wellness -- gym, pool, pilates, exercise classes, kids sports, child watch, swim lessons. There is also a social aspect for both the over 50 crowd and younger families. Gyms come and go, community focal points are much harder to find, and at the value the Y offers, not sure why anyone goes anywhere else.
Fantastic experience: Great workout facility. Friendly staff and trainers.
Fantastic experience: Clean, organized, modern.
Fantastic experience: Denver gyms have had their membership grow massively in the last few years and I hate waiting for machines for a long time or dealing with crowded workout areas. This YMCA is Denver’s hidden secret. I have had to wait for a machine once in my few weeks of membership and I come at peak times (around 5-6 pm after work). The facility is always clean and staff is nice. They are also consistently making renovations to make it even better. I love that they have multiple olympic lifting racks and really nice and functional machines. My only complaints are that a lot of patrons don’t wipe down equipment after they use it but that’s everywhere. And that the hot tub is permanently closed because repairs and maintenance were too pricey. (just a bummer, not a deal breaker!) And I do wish the weekend hours were better (could be open later on Fridays and longer hours on Sundays). I drive 15 minutes out of my way for this place and I am so impressed and grateful as it makes my workouts stressfree. I haven’t been to any classes yet or used the pool but I will update my review when I do that. It’s definitely a hidden gem for an awesome price.
Thanks Melanie for the kind words! Glad you are enjoying your Y membership. I will share your comments (wiping down equipment and hours) with the team. Please do try one of our classes. Our instructors and trainers are terrific. If you need a recommendation, please stop by the front desk.
Fantastic experience: I went there in High school Lakewood high school i have old vides everyday i have vibee
Fantastic experience: Absolutely love this place! The trainers are knowledgeable and friendly. The child watch is awesome and sports for the little ones is also one of the many perks. Shout out to the two trainers I see, Libby and Heidi I have lost over 30 pounds!
Negative experience: The trainers are not professional at all and very rude.
Hi Daniel, We are responsible for enforcing the mandatory mask order in place by the Governor of Colorado. If a member refuses to comply with that order, we are required to ask them to leave. We are committed to keeping the Y a safe place.
Negative experience: It was a great season, but in a playoff game the referee quit on us on the spot because he thought our player said something to him which he did not, therefore we had to end our season because the referee quit on us, then we sat for 2 hours while we waited for the athletic director to give us a reasoning which he couldn’t in the end, so we sat there for 2 and a half hours while we could have been productive, I’m very disappointed
Fantastic experience: Editing to add: Unparalleled kindness from staff on this cold, snowy night, October 29th. Despite an early closing due to the weather, Amanda went so completely out of her way to help, I feel it needs to be acknowledged here. Thank you again. I’m warmed in more ways than one! Original review: I haven’t been going to this YMCA for long but I have no idea why anybody would complain about any of the staff I’ve encountered so far. Everyone has seemed friendly and polite and unfailingly (again, so far) greets you when you go in the door. The facilities compared to YMCAs I have seen in the past are fantastic. I love that the weight room and the treadmills have window views, And when it’s raining I can hackysack in one of the unused basketball courts or studios. You just can’t beat it for the price, even as a single adult. Pool, hello! Other perks include a whirlpool, steam room, and coffee, though for all I know those have become standard. At any rate, I recommend giving this place visit so you can see for yourself that it’s just dandy. :)
Thanks for your kind words, we'll pass them along to our staff!
Fantastic experience: Awesome Zumba classes! Lots of weight and cardio machines available. Plus views of the mountains from the weight room
Thanks for you kind words Molly!
Fantastic experience: I have used the Duncan YMCA for close to 20 years. The staff has always been very nice and accommodating and helpful. Many classes are offered for all age groups and activities. This Y is busy all the time, so that must tell you something..!! Operating from 5am to 9pm is a lot of expense for staffing and facility maintenance, hence the user fees, which are very reasonable. Plus, if you are in real need financially, the Y has scholarships available. Many naysayers frequent these comment sites. The Duncan YMCA is a real blessing to have in the Arvada and surrounding community. Thx you YMCA. David J Burry
Thank you, David.
Fantastic experience: Highly recommend the childcare of this YMCA. I’ve put my infant there for a couple of days while I was visiting Denver. Roubhie is excellent; she’s very helpful and accommodating.
Positive experience: Staff is great and basketball court is great but the weight room I feel like is getting out of date because things are breaking and there’s only two bench’s and one REAL squading rack
Fantastic experience: I am full of smiles every time I make it into the YMCA doors. This gym is more then a gym, it's a community! I am so happy my family and I have such a wonderful place to maintain our health and wellness.
Thank you for your kind words, we'll pass them along to our staff.
Negative experience: Horrible staff, just plain rude right when you walk in.
Hi Kristi, I am sorry to hear about your experience. We would like to hear more, please contact Jen Spettel, Exec. Dir at 303 390 0838
Negative experience: The staff are polite. However, the people they let in are very rude. Over the past several years attending this gym I have been continuously harassed and have been insulted with several remarks that should not have been tolerated. I would have rated this review with five stars, but with the treatment I have received and with no staff around to report it to, this gym only deserves two stars.
Hi Rainbow, Thank you for letting us know of your experience, I apologize that you felt harassed, we will speak to our staff immediately.
Fantastic experience: I’m writing to counter the long winded negative review prior to mine. It’s totally unfair. If you’ve ever visited any other YMCA you would know this has got to be one of the best. It’s a nonprofit, not a high-end swanky club. Yet it has many of the extra’s you would find at a place three times the cost. They have been highlighted in other reviews. Regarding the daycare; these people actually care about the kids that attend. They do their best to maintain a clean and professional environment and it shows. I have twins that they take care of several times a week and my only complaint is that we can’t send them there more.
Positive experience: Great ymca. Very Friendly staff, pool, hot tub, gym, steam room, etc. Normal y stuff. Only reason I am giving it 4 stars is because there is no squash courts :(
Fantastic experience: My daughter was in their Summer Adventure Camp and my son did their Kinder Camp. Completely excellent programs. The adventure camp pushes the kids and doesn't baby them. The kinder camp is full of caring and friendly staff. I'll be sending my kids back next year for sure.
Thanks Ian, we'll pass on your kind words to our staff.
Fantastic experience: The best YMCA I have seen so far. I live far south but frequently travel up to Denver for outdoor activities. Today, one my way back from hiking up in the mountains, I wanted to check this place out. I should say I was totally impressed. First, as a YMCA member I thought I can visit any Y within the state for free but the front desk folks informed me that I can go to any Y for free Nationwide. They made sure I won't have any troubles signing in to any Y anywhere in the nation. Second, I am totally awestruck by the amenities in addition to the usual facilities, they provide in the locker rooms - fresh towels, shampoo, body lotion, after shave, shaving foam, what not. I would go there everyday if I am living in that area.
Negative experience: The staff is completely unable/unwilling to help with registration for camps/classes. They will redirect you to the website and have no clue what is actually available there. Poor excuse for a community inclusive facility.
Negative experience: Do not go to this location, it is by far the WORST YMCA in Denver Metro.
Negative experience: The prices are way too high for this facility for a family. Front desk staff is friendly, and yoga classes are good.
Hi Cleo, Thank you for you comments on our yoga classes and front desk staff, we appreciate your kind words.I am sorry you feel our family rates are too high, with a family membership, our members receive:• Free Child Watch while they work out• Two free meetings with a personal trainer• More than 90 fitness classes a week at the Arvada Y (400+ across the metro area also included)• 40% off swim lessons• 40% off youth sports• Member also receive additional discounts on events like Kids Night Out, trainings, and community events.• Plus, Free access to 2000+ YMCAs across the nation. In addition, as a non-profit we offer scholarships that make the YMCA accessible to all, regardless of financial situation.Have a great day!
Negative experience: If you want to go to the YMCA or do anything there and you are not a member, good luck don't waste your time. They only allow you to go in if you are a YMCA member. Staff was very rude about it. Super unhappy with my experience. You're a freaking Rec Center let the community use you without trying to squeeze every single penny out of me. Apex is closed, so I tried to use this facility but they only care about money and not their community. Very unhappy.
Hi Sasha, sorry you felt our staff was rude, I'll definitely send this to the executive director to address with that staff member. The YMCA IS a membership organization, if you would like access we invite you to join us, visit https://www.denverymca.org/membership. Have a great day!
Negative experience: Don't get foolish This is not a family place. They charge family membership almost double but the family areas are extremely poorly and discriminated when you compare to the adults and the elderly rooms If you complain, they will ignore and be really mean to you and to your child but if it is an elderly they will immediately they action Pool is high in chlorine, people do not shower before using the pool and the family bathroom, that is also for individuals with disabilities and all sexes, does not have the same amenities as the adult and elderly rooms You will pay the family membership to subside the elderly rate and get less of a facility area to use and with poor maintenance There are other rec centers that charge the same but more and better family-based amenities
Fantastic experience: The classes are diverse and personal trainers are great.
Fantastic experience: Awesome family friendly place.
Positive experience: It's nice and clean I play basketball here
Fantastic experience: I haven't gone there and done stuff but I took a tour and I love it
Fantastic experience: Out of towers visiting CO. Everyone was really helpful and friendly! If we lived near this location we would definitely come here. They have shampoo, conditioner, body wash, lotion, cotton balls, q tips in the locker rooms! Only went into the pool and the staff was really kind! Would highly recommend!
Fantastic experience: I love it pool is so fun!
Positive experience: Gets pretty busy in the weight room, and only a couple of the personal trainers aren't very nice
