HealthSPORT McKinleyville: Opinions
Fantastic experience: I really like HealthSPORT! There are awesome workouts at HealthSPORT! Everything about HealthSPORT is amazing!
Thank you so much for the review. It is great to have you!
Negative experience: Terrible customer service. Continuously being charged more than agreed to. Was promised a call back never received one, try to call and no answer. Don’t go here!! Go to the club.
Negative experience: Had a simple issue at this gym and the front desk people were extremely rude, both girls were laughing as I walked away 1/1/2024 @ 2:55pm
Hi Charlie,We are so sorry to hear this was your experience. Our standard is excellent customer service and we will address this. If you need further assistance, please give the club a call directly and our site manager, Jacquie will be happy to help.
Fantastic experience: ❤️❤️❤️
Negative experience: 300$ just to sign up. Definitely not worth it.
Fantastic experience: Excellent facility. Very friendly staff. Special shout out to Cassie for her wonderful work on the Monday/ Wednesday/ Friday morning water aerobics. Great job!.
Fantastic experience: Spacious cardio area
Fantastic experience: This local gym is active in the community and we are so lucky to have them here in McKinleyville!
Negative experience: This HealthSport in McKinleyville is not bad. It really has a great location. But unlike most of their other locations, this facility is primarily a weight/machine gym with classrooms (and now recently added saunas). A Health club should always have a pool and a jacuzzi. I have to go to the one in Arcata to swim, which seems odd. Arcata has a public pool, but McKinkeyville doesn’t, so a pool would have been a real asset for our town. Also, their yoga instructor, Francis, is a very rude person. ”Rude yoga teacher” should be an oxymoron. But it’s not in his case. Rule one is: An instructor should never touch someone without asking. You shouldn’t have to ask an instructor to stop touching you because they should have your consent before they touch anyone. So when you ask an instructor not to touch you, they should certainly just respect your wishes and stop, and when they finally stop after several requests you shouldn’t become the focus of cutting remarks and laughter by the teacher directed at you in front of the class. It feels like harassment. I reported it, but they did nothing as far as I know, and he has never apologized nor given any indication that he was aware his conduct was poor. I’m not the only person he does it to, but it really bothers me. It’s upsetting enough that I have had to leave in the middle of class. He gives a good program for people with no restrictions, but sadly, he’s by far the most unenlightened and unhealthily critical and shaming person I’ve ever had the misfortune to take a yoga class from. He verbally pointed out my slowness, inability to keep up, and any mistakes I made to the whole class, and frequently took time away from the class to talk about whatever I was doing or not doing to the class. For example, if I took a rest from following, usually because of pain, he made remarks about it to the class. This despite the fact that I have explained to him that I have a back disability and I can’t always follow, and requested that he just give me space to follow the class at my own pace and proceed with the class. He responded by saying that my inability to follow him exactly is (somehow) disruptive for the rest of the class. I told him that he disrupts the class himself by constantly trying to correct me instead of focusing on the rest of the class. I’ve asked him to stop making remarks about me during class because it makes me uncomfortable, all to no avail. I’m a certified yoga instructor, and taught yoga myself before a back injury left me with permanent limitations, and I am well aware that if there is anything a yoga teacher should understand, it’s that you don’t publicly shame people for not being able to follow the class exactly, or push them past their comfort zone physically, and you definitely don’t touch someone without their permission, much less after they ask you not to. The guy has no empathy and he gives me the creeps. I just stopped going to the class. It was too bad because my husband and I used to go together and that was nice. PLUS, the floor in his classroom is always really dusty. I have asthma and I frequently struggled to breath in the classroom after the first 15 minutes because of exposure to dust. I could see dust drifting through the air just above the floor. Ironically, he often dusts the floor with a duster after the class. Would make sense to clean more thoroughly before the class meets. The rest of the staff are friendly, professional, and respectful and the other areas of the gym are generally kept reasonably clean. 11/2/2020-As an update, I left this gym and went to The Club on Betty Ct just a few blocks away. For anyone looking for a pool and jacuzzi the newer facility there has one. Also, their yoga instructors all follow standards for proper behavior toward students so that's been a relief. Be well!
Angela,Thank you for bringing this to our attention and taking the time to speak to us about your concerns over the phone today. HealthSPORT is taking action accordingly.HealthSPORT
Fantastic experience: I've been going to Healthsport Mckinleyville for 3 years. As a Senior. My goal was to build strength, strengthen balance, improve cardiovascular health, and have fun. The amazing instructors have helped me achieve it all. It's a great place to work out where it has a hometown vibe and to be "Seen" by those who work and workout there.
Positive experience: I love this gym, but wondering when the times will go back to normal. I live in mckinleyville and would love to go to there, but it opens at 7am-7pm, wish it open at 5am at least for the people who have to work at a certain time.
Positive experience: 24 hour section is shaving for a graveyard worker like myself. Only reason it's not 5 stars is the locker room/ showers aren't 24 hours a well.
Fantastic experience: Shya is so sweet and helpful.
Positive experience: Everything you need to get to a healthier you.
Positive experience: Has everything you need.... The recent upgrades are awesome. Great place to get in shape.
Positive experience: I love the 24 hour gym
Fantastic experience: The McKinleyville location has a decent selection of cardio machines and weight machines. There are less options for free weights, but it's just not as big as the Arcata location -- which is fine. It's less busy and I enjoy that. Edit 3/15/19: This location has expanded in size. They added a 24 hour access weight room, cardio room, an HSP Fit 3.0 area, and saunas. I like the new additions. I don't like how it's more busy now haha!
Fantastic experience: Best sauna
Fantastic experience: Shya is so sweet and helpful.
Positive experience: Everything you need to get to a healthier you.
Fantastic experience: My go-to place for resistance and aerobic training. Great staff. Personal trainers are the best. Many classes. Does NOT smell like old gym socks.
Positive experience: Nice set up and ease of access to equipment, rarely crowded.
Fantastic experience: Frances guides restorative yoga. It is the best part of my week.
Positive experience: Good place to workout plenty of different equipment to use and friendly people.
Negative experience: Joke gym. Double the price of any normal gym and half the equipment. The sales rep is wayyy too fat to be working at a gym. Waste of time and money
Positive experience: Plenty of machines
