Liberty Gym: Opinions

Fantastic experience: Plenty of machines and weights and inexpensive.
Fantastic experience: $5 for a day pass is a good deal! I liked the selection of the machines and weights. I was there early morning around 5am though, I am not sure how it would be during peak hours.
Fantastic experience: This gym is absolutely excellent. Spotless, equipment in great shape, everyone was friendly, everyone has great gym etiquette- this place is one of a kind. It is $5 for a day pass! I’ve paid more than that for a neighborhood gym in central Mexico with half the equipment and ONE unisex bathroom. To the other reviewers complaining about the age of the equipment (like 45 lbs isn’t 45 lbs no matter the age) I suggest going back to planet fitness where you belong. This gym is a service to the fitness world with its incredible pricing and very very clear pride of ownership.
Fantastic experience: Great workout gym. The staff is amazing
Fantastic experience: Really clean not crowded overall great place to gat a really great workout at.
Fantastic experience: We are traveling through the area and saw Liberty’s day pass is only $5 per person! The equipment is high quality and the gym is kept nice and clean. Not too busy & there is enough room for everyone to get their work out in! A special touch I loved were the fresh flowers in the women’s locker room
Positive experience: Decent atmosphere. Decent equipment. Dumbbell knurlings are trash.
Fantastic experience: Pretty solid spot for a good workout.
Fantastic experience: This is a great option for travelers or anyone who doesn't want to commit to a membership. $5 day pass. Plenty of clean/well maintained equipment.
Fantastic experience: Great gym, has everything you need (platform, squat racks, machines, free weights). Great value for money at $5 for a day pass and great service from the team/ manager!
Positive experience: My hotel gym was under renovations, so I found that Liberty has $5 guest passes. That's hard to find and hard to beat. The atmosphere and space is open. The manager was welcoming. There are open cubbies if you don't have a lock for your stuff, and phone lockers that appeared to be free. A lot of the weights and equipment was a little older, but it was well taken care of. The cardio equipment was newer with no distracting screens. I was there during peak time on a Monday, but didn't really wait for equipment since there is so much available. The clientele was very diverse, from casual folks to gym rats, and they were all considerate. Thanks Liberty!
Fantastic experience: Awesome gym. They have everything and then some for every muscle group you're working out. All the negative reviews are bs. This gym allows those in recovery trying to better their lives to workout during non busy hours. I'm one of them and it's quite literally helped in changing my life for the better. Love this gym! Highly recommended
Positive experience: Pretty good gym! Not crowded. Has all the machines you really need for weight training and cardio. And they are all in good condition.
Fantastic experience: Great place to workout.
Fantastic experience: Great gym!
Fantastic experience: Great no frills gym. Lot’s of equipment and clean. Traveling for work and they have great day pass prices. I will definitely be back next time I’m in town.
Fantastic experience: Wow. Passing through Albuquerque and my husband and I wanted to hit a workout before getting back on the road. Saw they had $5 day passes. Sold! Manager(s?) very, very nice and personable. Probably the most personable I've encountered at a gym. Has everything you need in here with a good set up and plenty of room. As well as a good amount of cardio machines. Will be back if we find ourselves in Albuquerque again.
Fantastic experience: Great staff, very clean gym, plenty of free weights, machine equipment, and cardio. They had a nice selection of protein drinks and pre-workout drinks. I'm visiting Albuquerque and got a day pass - wish this was my home gym.
Fantastic experience: Best gym in the 505. Great machines, free weight, and the friendliest people.
Fantastic experience: Great gym! Im dropping in daily while traveling! Great team, great folks
Fantastic experience: Great gym to get back to working out. Comfortable atmosphere
Fantastic experience: Super dope gym especially for anyone traveling through Albuquerque and needs to get a lift in, it's hard to beat $5 day passes. As a gymrat and can say they got everything you need and I always find old school dumbells and plates a huge score.
Fantastic experience: I’m a former D1 athlete, a (small and unintimidating) woman, and have lifted/done cardio seriously for over a decade. I also maintain my own home/garage gym because I don’t enjoy gym bros, creeps, waiting for equipment, and the like. I came into town for a few two-week periods last summer and couldn’t bring my garage with me (lol), so I needed a gym. Despite some concerning reviews left here by other women, I gave Liberty a shot. It has been AWESOME. I’m now back for the full summer and have had the same experience. TLDR - go to Liberty, you won’t regret it. Details: -I work out early in the morning and the number of people is great for me - the only thing I’ve ever had to wait for is the (single) deadlift/clean/snatch platform. I can definitely see how things would get crowded around peak times (7-9a and 4-7p), since there are only 4 true squat racks (6 if you include smith machines) but I’ve never had an issue personally. Off-peak times are your friend if you want to use popular pieces of equipment. -The staff are friendly and helpful, and worked out a fair price for me and my awkward-length-of-time stays last summer. (As a bonus, they remembered me when I came back in this summer!) They treat me the exact same way they treat everyone else - professionally and with respect. -Patronage at my preferred time is impeccable. I chat with one or two of the early-morning regulars and otherwise do my own thing. I was actually struggling to reconfigure a piece of equipment and a couple of “the guys” stepped in to help - again, professionally and respectfully. Not a hint of weird or creepy. -Area is a little sketchy, but there are places in the city that are way worse. (ABQ was never redlined, so the city is much more heterogenous than what most folks from other places are used to.) I’ve never personally had issues with leaving my stuff in a cubby, although this could be a function of when I work out. There are also plenty of lockers if you want peace of mind. -Parking can get tight, even in the morning, and I’m sure it’s way worse at peak time. There’s street parking on the side street (Liberty is on a corner lot, one of the streets has more traffic and one has way less.) This is usually fine, that road is not super busy or narrow. -A couple of other reviews have mentioned this, but it bears repeating: you will not be the “only X” in this gym. There are people spanning the spectrums of man to woman, old to young, fat to skinny, cardio chick to powerlifting bro, white to black. I’m definitely not the only former athlete or vaguely-androgynous person. There’s a place for you at Liberty.
Fantastic experience: This gym is truly amazing! We traveled from Texas to New Mexico for work and were looking for a gym to get our TRAIN ON! We definitely found one! From the owners to the staff, they were so awesome and made us feel like family and not like a business deal. They accommodated us and our needs! If you are looking for a great spot to make your new gym or if you are visiting, check this place out! You won’t regret it!!
Fantastic experience: No frills, good and courteous crowd, not pretentious, very friendly staff, solid equipment. Can't really ask for more, it's literally perfect.
Fantastic experience: Im amazed by the pro equipments especially incline barbell bench press damn its so well built comfortable when compared ive tried at different gyms. And a lot of free weights. im a truck driver and here i parked my semi truck without trailer and this gym close to TA truck stop. ill definetly come here again whenever i stop in Albuquerque.
Negative experience: That place needs to open up some windows. It smells horrible in there. I mean they keep the door open but that does nothing spend some money so people could breathe comfortable
Fantastic experience: The best place in albuquerque friendy people
Fantastic experience: Outstanding facility. If you are in the area and you are looking for a place to workout. Look no further, this place is awesome, clean, and the folks are friendly. The place is spread out and has plenty of room to do anything.
Fantastic experience: If you're an introvert like myself, you'll find this place to have all the equipment you could ever desire. However, the one drawback is that it tends to get quite crowded, and you might often find the equipment you want to use already occupied. But rest assured, everyone around is incredibly friendly and approachable.
Fantastic experience: Best in town for decades. Great ownership, clean, equipment always working, maintained and upgraded. The memberships are fairly priced and the atmosphere is inspirational and fun.
Fantastic experience: Exceptable
Fantastic experience: Best day ever!!!
Fantastic experience: Great gym, great crowd, great price
Positive experience: This is a great no hassle gym. But seems hard to cancel my membership
Fantastic experience: Love this gym I go here almost everyday
Fantastic experience: Our go to gym l!! Love this place, great vibe and the owners are extremely nice!
Fantastic experience: This gym is a great place to get your work out
Fantastic experience: Ayo!!! Rad gym, great equipment. Awesome atmosphere!! Tha k you guys for letting me pop in for a quick visit
Fantastic experience: I love this place. Every time I visit from out of town, they offer a daily rate that can't be beat. No frills, just fitness. Thank you Liberty Gym!
Negative experience: I usually have no problems with the place, but tonight I was maxing out my squat and on my very last rep. I was coming up slow, but my form was good and I was almost at the top, when one of the older employees who wear glasses came a grabbed the bar off of me. He didn’t try to spot me, just removed the bar and told me to use the safety. I do when I need them, but I didn’t. He absolutely ruined my last rep, didn’t ask if I needed help, and didn’t let me finish my lift. I get being concerned that someone might hurt themselves, but he didn’t even give me a chance to finish the lift or try to spot me or anything. I am very annoyed and will be looking for another gym.
Negative experience: Horrible service. The manager has failed to learn how to talk to people respectfully. The way a manager behaves towards potential clientele is very telling of the experience you’ll get at a gym. Do not recommend for female gym goers.
Positive experience: Liberty is a good gym. Especially if you just need a place to work out for a day with their $5 pass. They have just about every price of equipment under the sun, and while a lot of it is older, it's well maintained. Also lots of power racks, which I appreciate. I knocked off one star for atmosphere. Definitely a "bro" vibe here both times I have been. This latest time, there was a group of them camping on the deadlift platform and being being loud and obnoxious. They were actually, unironically calling each other "bro". Topics of discussion included the possibility of running steroid cycles. But at least it's not like Defined where they're discussing the steroids they're already on.
Fantastic experience: I've been going here for a long time. I've jumped around a lot of gyms and honestly this is the best one in ABQ. It has fantastic machines, best in the city a good selection of free weights. and racks. Overall, it's a fantastic old-school bodybuilding gym that's also not bad for powerlifting.
Fantastic experience: Worked out there today since I am in town coming from Germany. Daypass 5 Bucks, whole procedure took about 20 seconds and then I was off working out in this great no-frills gym. Nice manager/owner. Will be back when / if in town.
Fantastic experience: Best gym in the city. The place has a great vibe. Lots of equipment, friendly people. It was easy to sign up for and affordable. The place is very clean and well taken care of.
Fantastic experience: Great gym tons of weights not crowded most of the time. They also have 4 squat racks.
Fantastic experience: 5$ day pass, good ratio of cardio machines to weights, powerlifting section and 4 power racks. Fulfills any weightlifting athlete looking to train hard. Awesome gym
Fantastic experience: They a bigger selection of machines and free weights than the chain gyms like Planet Fitness. Don't have to a sign a contract either and can pay cash! Gotta love it.
Fantastic experience: Great gym with walk in and weekly rates. Went here for a few weeks when in ABQ for work. If this gym was in my hometown i would be getting a membership.
Fantastic experience: Stopped in for a few months while on business. Can't recommend them enough! Everyone was friendly and courteous, racked their weights, and we're generally awesome. Parking can be tricky during prime hours, but they've got plenty of equipment to keep you busy. Unless you're paying for a locker, they're smallish. Men's showers could use a good scrubbing. 4 power racks are awesome.
Fantastic experience: Doesn’t ever get to crowded. Great equipment. Definitely worth a try
Fantastic experience: I've been a member here for 10 years.Overall, the best gym I've seen in the Albuquerque area. It's more of a hardcore gym,but has plenty of cardio equipment as well,if you prefer them to weights.Iron Soul & Legion Iron are the other gyms I'd recommend in town, but Liberty Gym offers a lot more equipment. Also, another great thing is I've never experienced tough guy attitudes,or territoriality I've experienced elsewhere.Members at Liberty are pretty laid back,& friendly.I'd highly recommend the gym.
Fantastic experience: I really enjoyed this gym!!! It has that old school bodybuilder type gym with the right amount of modern to it. I would definitely recommend this gym!!
Fantastic experience: Speaking on free weights, gets the job done. Bring your own towel to wipe equipment unless you want to use the same singular black towel on a hook that everyone else uses.
Fantastic experience: Old school gym
Fantastic experience: I love this gym!!!!
Fantastic experience: Great gym!
Fantastic experience: Great set up, great trainers. Friendly staff and long term clients.
Fantastic experience: Best gym I’ve been to. The only reason why I stopped coming was because I moved recently. However, this is a great family owned gym that makes everyone feel welcomed.
Positive experience: Update: I feel bad having to do this but I had no choice but to change my rating from 5 to 3 stars because of the parking situation. There’s hardly any parking at any given time. You have to be extremely lucky to find a parking space and therefore I always have to park next to the road where there’s always a lot of cars passing by. There’s always people inside their cars parked just being creeps or I don know what they do but they don’t go inside the gym or leave. The gym inside is perfect by all means. There’s always equipment available and good rock music. So even though parking is full the weight room is not that crowded. Best gym in Albuquerque. When I moved to this city I tried different gyms but none compared to Liberty gym. This gym has all kinds of weights, machines and equipment. If you are just visiting Albuquerque and want a gym to get your workout then look no further because a day pass costs only 5 dollars while other gyms charge like 20 dollars. Also they have a store where you can buy stuff such as preworkouts, protein shakes even merchandise such as shirts, shorts, etc. This gym has it all, highly recommended.
Fantastic experience: Was there for a weekend and they have a nice guest pass policy with all the equipment I needed!
Fantastic experience: Just started going here. Plenty of free weights and lots of different machines and benches. The gym takers also remember you!
Fantastic experience: Best gym in albuquerque great people and incredible ownership the man that owns this place is always there with his people and displays tremendous leadership and sets the culture for the people that come here
Fantastic experience: Great gym! I was visiting for a week and it was only $5 for a high quality gym with a large assortment of nice equipment! They also had a good choice of preworkouts and protein to grab on the go for a very reasonable price! Talked to the owner and some of the trainers, all very friendly and helpful.
Fantastic experience: Amazing gym I visit every time I have the chance and go through Albuquerque NM There are a few streets around that you can park on if you are a truck driver and be able to visit the gym
Fantastic experience: In ABQ for a month doing a rotation. This place was close by and highly rated. It was exactly what I was looking for. They made me a reasonable deal for a month, have everything I was looking for (lots of weights and machines) - very basic setup but large enough so you rarely have to wait on something, and always a squat rack open. Staff is super hands off, not rude as others have mentioned. If you need something go upstairs and ask, otherwise they mind their own business bc its not a restaurant. They have one time supplements for sale at a very reasonable price as well (pre-workout etc). Temperature was nice and when you need to cool off just go stand by the one of the windows. Bathroom can get a little ripe, but its a gym restroom lol. I also saw something about minorities - not sure what they're talking about, minorities from where I'm from are the majority here. Nobody seems to care that I'm white, or from somewhere else, or really anything at all. It's great. I'd recommend them not using communal equipment wipe off towels, maybe something disposable, since this is a new era of aseptic practice, but otherwise I love this gym and would sign a contract if I lived here.
Fantastic experience: 5$ drop in is the best deal ever! Good mix of people who are trying to get a good work out in. Some equipment may seem “classic” but all well maintained.
Fantastic experience: Great gym for folks who just want a bunch of machines and weights. They always have an empty squat rack or bench press, it’s incredible. They have some really neat machines that I haven’t ever seen at other gyms. Definitely worth the price!
Fantastic experience: if you’re serious about heavy lifting this is the place you’ll call home. Lots of variations of heavy plate loaded or machines that ensure the best pump. This is also the most inexpensive gym you could sign up at. Whether you’re a power lifter, a bodybuilder, or someone just trying to get into shape, Liberty gym has everything you could ever think of.
Fantastic experience: The gym is set up perfectly to get a safe, quality workout. The equipment is nice and well maintained. COVID-19 protocols in place with other conscientious people ensuring everything remains clean for the next person. Definitely recommend Liberty Gym if you want to get a good workout in solo or with a partner.
Fantastic experience: I went out to ABQ on vacation for about two weeks & needed a gym to work out at during that time every other day. I met who with was I think the owner & he let me get a pass for two weeks even though i didnt see it as an option on the site. The cost was very cheap. The facility is very clean compared to some of the gyms i have been to on my travels. The owner does a decent job also compared to some of the gyms i have been to where equipment is run down etc. This is a great gym if you are looking for mainly resistence training & some light cardio. Hopefully this brings more business.
Fantastic experience: Easy going gym. People are friendly. Machines are in great shape and there are lots of free weights.
Fantastic experience: Great gym!!
Fantastic experience: Great facility
Fantastic experience: Good clean gym
Fantastic experience: Best gym in town!
Fantastic experience: Clean and lots of equipment for every workout
Fantastic experience: Small gym with big gym quality. Clean environment and friendly staff.
Fantastic experience: I live just across the street from this gym and I'm glad I got a membership. Their showers are closed right now but the free weights, plenty of cardio and strength training machines make up for the trip home to clean off.
Fantastic experience: THIS POST KEEPS GETTING DELETED BY THE OWNER They wouldn't allow me a gym membership when they found out I had my ADA federally protected service dog with public access rights, even though I had previously been a member for several years. I was told by max who is one of the staff that because the cat has been there longer then anyone that it warrants more rights than anybody that he couldn't allow me to be a member. He became highly offended when I tried to educate him and called Doug the owner saying I'm causing problems and Doug banned me and told me to never come back and called the cops. I left after I realized they wouldn't see or hear me as a person and human being and I didnt want to be escorted away by police for someone else's ignorance. I called back today trying to get ahold of the owner doug to see if he was ready to hear me and Brian another staff answered the phone and asked who I was when I told him he became very rude and aggressive in his tone and told me he feels like I shouldn't talk to doug and hung up on me . I called back and explained that I feel like he shouldn't be the one making the decision of whether or not I should have a conversation with the owner he just laughed and hung up the phone again. I worked out at this gym for over 5 years and switched gyms about a year and a half ago. The staff, management and owner of liberty have been very rude and unprofessional towards me for very petty reasons when all I wanted to do was maintain my active life style. I dont go to the gym to socialize and make friends but if it happens that's cool all I go for is to exercise, workout and to better myself, this establishment has went above and beyond to hinder that for me I do not recomend this gym to anybody after these experiences with several representatives from this company.
Fantastic experience: Great lifters gym! This is a place where folks take their workouts seriously. Great variety of weights and equipment, very friendly folks.
Fantastic experience: I've been in Albuquerque for a long time, lifted at most of the gyms, and there is a reason this is my sanctuary. Best gym hands down.
Fantastic experience: Still the best gym in town. It's always clean, the equipment is well maintained and the partons as well as staff are all very nice.
Fantastic experience: Fantastic local gym. Great price. They have all the equipment you need!
Fantastic experience: Everyone puts the weights back.
Negative experience: The owner was extremely rude. Yells from across the gym.
Fantastic experience: Staple of the ABQ fitness scene for generations at this point.
Fantastic experience: Clean, safe, great atmosphere...
Fantastic experience: Very affordable, weight lifting gym.
Fantastic experience: Basic no nonsense gym small but has everything you need for body building.
Fantastic experience: Where I got my start. Itll always hold a special place. Old school lifting gym, if thats what you like, this is one of the best places for that.
Fantastic experience: THIS POST KEEPS GETTING DELETED BY THE OWNER They wouldn't allow me a gym membership when they found out I had my ADA federally protected service dog with public access rights, even though I had previously been a member for several years. Negative experience: This gym may have been something in the past, but it has gone downhill over the years. All that could have been construed as hardcore about this place except the age of the equipment has been lost. Most of the employees (sans Bobby) have no idea how to lift weights and have no conception of the fact that weights make noise (especially old Iron ones). I spent over a year and a half at this gym only to be unceremoniously told I couldn't renew my membership because I happen to think it's inappropriate that 90% of the gym doesn't seem to know rule one of gym etiquette, much less rules 2-10. In fact, I routinely actually FIXED equipment in this gym of my own volition, without complaint, and was still told I couldn't come back. On top of that the bars are fairly dangerous to squat heavy with (far too much flex with 4 plates), and substantially more than a few of the plates are off by 4 or 5 whole pounds. This can lead to a pretty dangerous situation while squatting anywhere near the limit. Add to that that chalk isn't allowed (liquid chalk is NOT chalk) and you have a recipe that I wouldn't be surprised if results in serious injury to someone in the future. If you're remotely serious about getting big, or getting strong, you have better options (which I'm now trying to find).
Fantastic experience: Best home owned gym in the city. Owners are the nicest people out there and the prices are excellent! All the peeps that run the gym are always there for you. ❤️love Liberty
Fantastic experience: Visiting from out of town and loved their simple $5 fee for a day pass. All other gyms I looked at didn't have any sort of drop in or one time rate. Locker room was pretty good, showers were adequate (kinda old). Had lots of weights and lots of cardio machines, approximately: 5 recumbent bikes 5 upright (but not spin) bicycle machines 5+ stair steppers 5+ ellipticals
Fantastic experience: Liberty has been my gym for decades. I check out others from time to time, but always come back here. 1 - It's quiet. No spin class instructors shrieking at the tops of their lungs to floor-pounding music, a low setting on background songs so you can listen to your own music or a book on tape while working out, nobody crashing weights around. 2 - Some merchandise available, but nobody's tried to sell me a line of vitamins. 3 - A big floor space has been opened up in the back where there are mats so that you can *lie down and stretch* after a workout, which is particularly important for older people (me; I've just turned 79 -- but everybody else uses them too). 4 - Friendly and helpful staff: my husband used to go here too in his seventies, and they kindly kept a sharp eye on him when he needed it. 5 - Attention to the equipment. When something breaks down, it gets fixed or replaced. 6 - the high, high ceiling -- Liberty never feels cramped or stuffy,. You can always look UP. 7 - The mix; you're not the only old person there, or the only white person, or the only black/brown/other colored person there, or the only Spanish-speaking person, or the only overweight person, or the only physically impaired person or person working out in street slacks and a T (but gym shoes, of course), or the only anything. There are muscle cars and Priuses and pickups and commercial vans and Tauruses and big Dodge trucks and my old Corolla in the parking lot. 8 - And there's the cat. Seriously. She's calm and friendly, but if you don't like cats she'll leave you alone. SMC
Fantastic experience: This a simple and great weight lifting gym. They have tones of free weights and machines. They have some cardio machines (treadmills, stair steppers, row machine, bikes, etc.) The people there are friendly and the regular goers have a good community. There is a locker room with showers, cubbies and lock boxes to store things. They have a little store in their too for clothing and supplements. They have trainers if that's what you like. Great price for what you get. Its an iron paradise with a gym cat!
Fantastic experience: Posto pulito e la mia trainer ineccepibile
