Base Fitness Center, located in Airway Heights, offers a fantastic environment for fitness enthusiasts. Users rave about its cleanliness, extensive equipment selection, and friendly staff. The center boasts a variety of facilities for both individual workouts and group classes, making it suitable for all ages and fitness levels. Key highlights include:
- Indoor and outdoor tracks
- Swimming pool with various activities
- Basketball and racquetball courts
- Dedicated areas for aerobics and yoga classes
- 24-hour access for military personnel
- A designated children's play area with cardio equipment
While some users have noted issues like limited parking during peak hours, a need for more updated equipment, and occasional cleanliness concerns in the kids' area, the overwhelmingly positive experiences reflect a well-maintained facility. Many users regard it as one of the best fitness centers available on a military base, with ample modern equipment and effective customer service. Overall, Base Fitness Center is a wonderful choice for those seeking a comprehensive workout experience.
Base Fitness Center: Opinions

Positive experience: The facility is really nice. On the weekends it's common to have Noone manning the desk I assume as my home base does the same thing. Areas of the gym were dark and it could have been me but there were no light switches in plain sight to turn on the lights. Someone had to stop their workout to let me in. In all honesty it was a long weekend and most bases are minimal manning.
Fantastic experience: Great fitness center.
Fantastic experience: Everything and anything you need to get a good workout done is here. Timing is the key if you want to avoid large crowds. Overall, awesome place to get it done!
Fantastic experience: My son's basketball team trains here and it immaculate.
Positive experience: Wish I knew more about the machines.
Fantastic experience: It was as always great. We like it very much to me and all the family.
Fantastic experience: Clean, great lighting and the equipment was clean and working. Loved the padded 2nd level track.
Fantastic experience: Great open building. Great upstairs track. Lots of weights. A pool if you like swimming.
Fantastic experience: I use the pool almost daily. Great, friendly, & well trained staff.
Positive experience: The gym as a whole is fantastic. My 2 complaints are there needs to be a better kids area for parents. The gate doesn't lock and the area always seems dirty. 2nd the TVs in the main area are mute and there are no subtitles. People cannot connect with the TVs so it's like they are just for show.
Fantastic experience: I specially enjoy Amy from the aerobics classes. She has so much energy and loves what she does.
Fantastic experience: Indoor, and outdoor tracks, basketball court, yoga room, combative training, weight equipment, swimming pool.
Positive experience: For an Air Force Gym, it's ok. I've seen better and much worse. The pool is shared with SERE so hours are weird. Free weight and aerobic area are too compacted, but I hear they're expanding!
Fantastic experience: Nice place
Fantastic experience: Masks required only when walking around gym between workouts. Best gym around. Great fitness classes.
Fantastic experience: I work here one a month
Positive experience: Great indoor running track, but weight lifting equipment and area needs work/updating.
Fantastic experience: I would give the gym a 6 Star review before Covid-19 regulations were applied to the Fitness Center. The hours of operation used to be phenomenal. The gym is always clean, great customer service and an overall great environment to workout in! I have dropped it to a 5 Star now, due to reduced hours of operation. The closed hours are for sanitizing, but the cleaning crew typically cleans at different times than the designated hours. If this continues to be the case, the doors should remain open all day. Overall an incredible facility with great equipment and customer service!
Fantastic experience: The best Fitness center what I ever seen!
Fantastic experience: One of the better USAF gyms I have been to.
Fantastic experience: Good place, everything you need. Just wish they had better bars for deadlift.
Positive experience: Too much space devoted to weights and weight machines.
Positive experience: Clean and friendly. Too many out of order machines.
Positive experience: Location is very convenient but lacks hot water for showers when crowded.
Positive experience: Completely full all the time except late at night....only go if you absolutely have no where else to go work out. Running on the track is about the only thing that there is no waiting for.
Positive experience: Way to small of a gym for this base. During peak hours (05:30-0800/15:00-17:00 roughly) you may have to park at the movie theater or old Fun Spot. However it's kept very clean and they make do with the space they have. The gym definitely wasn't designed to keep up with what the base has become.
Fantastic experience: John Gahagan runs a good gym!
Fantastic experience: This is a huge fitness center.
Fantastic experience: It's nice. It could be bigger with more parking but it seems to be fine. They have an indoor pool and track. They have classrooms for exercise classes upstairs. They have a ninja warrior gym set up. They also have weights/machines and an indoor basketball court. As a whole it's a nice gym. They have two of most machines and that usually means one is open. It's almost always busy after 1600 until about 6.
Fantastic experience: Lots of space, lot's of state of the art, high quality equipment. Never a wait for almost any of your machines or benches, even at 430pm. Clean, well maintained, air controlled. Bathrooms are kept clean at all times. Water machines, Racquetball court, basketball court, inside running track, TONS of cardio machines and they also have a pool that always has something going on for the children... ALSO, 24hr access for anyone with a CAC. Just go to the front desk.
Fantastic experience: I LOVE the sauna
Fantastic experience: Large! They let me take the stroller with my 10 month old on the track, which was amazing .... So I didn't have to walk outside in the cold. They have a big pool and raquetball court too.
Fantastic experience: This Is one of the better AF gyms I've been to. The indoor track is really nice. Only 6 laps for the 1.5 mile
Fantastic experience: Great fitness center. It has a kids area with cardio equipment in front of it so you can work out while the kids play. Our two and three year old both love it but our two year old does struggle with some of the play area. 3+ is great. There are also some free weight equipment by there so bringing kids is very easy.
Positive experience: Strict
Positive experience: Great new gym on base.
Positive experience: Free weight area is small.
Positive experience: Good gym
Positive experience: A lot like the gym at Randolph, but probly better. Most important details...has a couple squat racks, a place to drop weights, one of those CrossFit type jungle gyms. Upstairs has a couple cool places to get after it too. I pray you don't have to run 1.5 miles in there though.
Fantastic experience: It's a gym, and it's not falling apart.
Fantastic experience: Temple of Mt. Olympus, get shredded brah! U mirin?
Fantastic experience: Best gym around. I considered two different gym memberships in Spokane and still decided that the base gym was superior. They have every type of exercise machine I've ever heard of, an extensive weight selection, and several rooms for spin classes, racquetball, and yoga. Great place to work on your summer body!!!
Fantastic experience: The best, clean and always a machine or workout available.
Fantastic experience: Free, 24/7, and has spare rooms you can use to work out in private. Also has raquetball courts, basketball courts, tennis courts, and more. The only minus is the swimming pool has really odd hours.
Fantastic experience: If you have military base access this fitness center has just about everything you could want. Pool, basketball, squash, volleyball & of course a great selection of weights and weight machines.
Fantastic experience: I love the childrens play area! The staff is so friendly.
Fantastic experience: Fairchild...Rocks!
Fantastic experience: Love this gym, always so clean, and has everything you need.
Fantastic experience: Awesome resource for base personnel
Fantastic experience: Very nice inside. Equipment is new and many different options are available. Parking is ample. There is a kids area for kids to stay, and there are classrooms all over. Bathrooms are relatively small.
Fantastic experience: Fairchild...Rocks!
Positive experience: Big facility, lots of equipment. Never been during peak hours though.
Positive experience: Work great a night when the whole base aint there. But the hot water sucks.
Positive experience: Its good for an on base gym and its FREE! I gave it 4 stars because it had to compete with the gym on Travis AFB and the LA Fitness that I used to go to. But its good.
Positive experience: Had a lot of machines, and a great running track on the second floor. Wish there was an AMT cardio machine it two.
Positive experience: Have used the facility since it was new. It's a great facility but there was not a lot of thought put into what goes where. They have already updated some of the workout equipment but some is in desperate need of updating, same with some of the flooring in the weight lifting area.
Fantastic experience: I love the size and 24Hr policy. My only complaints are that the pool has been closed a lot recently and some of the equipment is in need of repair. At least they inform you of this on the equipment.
Fantastic experience: Nice facility..clean...well equipped
Fantastic experience: It has everything I need and free yoga classes etc. Works well for me!
Fantastic experience: Large gym, tons of equipment, pool, 24 hour access, etc. It's got it all.
Positive experience: Plenty of modern equipment.
Positive experience: Small compact gym, not bad when it's no busy.
Positive experience: Decent amount of equipment, has live music.
Positive experience: They could have done something better with the design of the building. But i hsve seen worse gyms so it's not bad.
Negative experience: Pathetic weekend hours. If you're TDY here make sure to go during normal hours to get after-hours access.
Positive experience: Good fitness center. It's clean and has plenty of exercise equipment. I like the 1/8 mile track upstairs. There are racquetball courts, basketball courts, a ton of endurance machines, and weight lifting equipment. For those that want that CrossFit experience, all necessary tools of the trade have a dedicated section in this gym. Additionally, it's open 24 hours to anyone who registers their military ID. The only reason I don't frequent as often is that it's annoying to get onto post. But if you live on Fairchild AFB its a no brainer. And it's free for you anyway!
Positive experience: Very clean. The cleaning lady is always there working hard to keep it spic and span. Great assortment of equipment and a place for little kids to play. Wish they had ab rollers...
