Conan's Kick Boxing Karate: Opinions
Fantastic experience: When we moved to Norman almost 2 years ago, my son wanted to learn Jiujitsu, so we called several schools in the area, tried intro classes with 4, and joined Conan's together. There are fancier and far more expensive places in the area, but if you want to feel like family, and not just another membership fee, this is the place. My 12 year old is tossing around grown men including me, and wants us start hanging around after class to take boxing as well. Because that's one of the things I love at Conan's. Boxing, MMA, kickboxing, Karate, Japanese Jiujitsu, Tae Kwon Do, self-defense, women's and children's classes, they're all available at Conan's, and it's one of the most affordable places we found. No attitude, pure respect, and family friendly atmosphere. I recommend Conan's Academy without hesitation.
Fantastic experience: Awsome. Very kind and patient
Fantastic experience: Kids class is excellent son loves it! Conan is great with the kids!
Fantastic experience: Considered taking my kids here. Haven't yet pulled the trigger, but of all the schools in town I went to, Conant seemed the most real. Here's the deal, you can wear uniforms and talk a good game, and call yourself Grandmaster (like another pathetic school I went to), but at the end of the day if you've never been hit and your students never get hit, then they're building a false sense of security that won't help them when they really need it. I don't want my kids hurt, but they need to experience real training to truly understand what a fight is, or can be, rather than simply a PE class with fancy uniforms and belts. This is why kids in Thailand and Mexico who learn to box can demolish kids who take things like TKD and KM. Conan understands this, and how that can translate to safety on the street. I'm not looking for a place to babysit my kids. I have years of experience, and I am only interested in ensuring they get training that will produce actual skills they can use to defend themselves. If I decide to move forward, Conan will probably get my business because he is an actual coach, not more concerned with branded Kimonos and nonsense. Also, because he took the time to ask questions and discuss training philosophy with me. He was nice, straight to the point, and didn't try to BS me like other owners did. That goes a long way in demonstrating integrity and actual humility. A lesson some of the other school owners could learn from this guy. THAT would probably be a real VICTORY.
