Gabrieles Martial Arts - Groton, CT

Fantastic experience: I was nervous about getting back into physical fitness after 2 kids and an extra 100 pounds. But Kyoshi Olinda and Sal are very welcoming. They encourage and push you without being demoralizing. The Junior instructors are also very insightful. The other students cheer each other on and the entire environment is welcoming - despite the fact that we knock each other over. :) The dojo is comfortable with a seating area for parents/guests and an open workout area. There are two bathrooms for changing clothes, so either come dressed or try to get there early in case you have to wait.

Fantastic experience: GMA is a great place to train! Instructors and students are all very welcoming and inclusive regardless of your individual skill or fitness level. Plenty of variety in the classes to keep them from getting boring. The kickboxing class is both challenging and a lot of fun.

Fantastic experience: Gabriels Karate has allowed my daughter to grow in discipline and confidence. The instructors are very supportive and positive. There is a family environment which my wife and I like. I myself joined kickboxing which help me get more conditioned. I enjoy kickboxing in the same manner my daughter enjoys it. It helps me push myself with positive staff encouraging me to keep moving. Kickboxing gives me a variety of work out and it is not monotonous gym routines. I highly recommend Gabriel’s Karate for young and old.

Fantastic experience: Amazing staff with decades of experience teaching fun and engaging lessons. My son can't wait for his next class. Could not ask for a better experience. Update 6/2022: I've started taking classes myself recently, and my daughter started late last year. Still the same excellent instruction for talented and passionate staff, and in just a couple months I find myself with more strength and stamina than I thought possible for someone at my age and level of fitness. I fully expect to be with Gabriele's for the foreseeable future.

Fantastic experience: Been a proud member of the Gabriele's Martial Arts family (and it really is a family) for several years now and it's helped me so much! The instructors are incredibly knowledgeable, patient and positive and are great at working with all skill levels and ages. When I started I legit barely knew how to throw a punch (let alone a roundhouse or tornado kick) and thanks to the expert teaching of Renshi Tim, Kyoshi Olinda, Kyoshi Sal and Renshi Jason I've gained a confidence and self-belief I wouldn't have thought possible before. Not to mention getting in the best shape of my life! And not only the teachers but also the students are such positive, inspiring people whose influence and comradery have helped me grow a lot as a person the last few years. The Gabrieles are a wonderful family I feel really lucky to have met, definitely check out this awesome dojo!

Fantastic experience: Great family atmosphere while taking the training aspect serious. I think it is the best place for children to receuve fun but stern direction and stay active. The family plans allow for the whole family to get involved and train!

Fantastic experience: Wonderful facility. Talented and skilled instructors. My 10 year old has been enrolled for almost 7 years and loves it. I highly recommend especially for kids because in addition to technical skills, the instructors also encourage good behavior and character by focusing on teamwork and respect. We look forward to a long relationship with the Gabriel Martial Arts family.

Fantastic experience: My six year old started with a trial class in August 2020. After the class he basically signed himself up and immediately fell in love with karate. He looks forward to class every single week, even when he took a couple of zoom classes he was excited. Kyoshi Olinda and Renshi Tim show just enough level of strictness and discipline but are absolutely phenomenal with every child that walks onto the mat!!! They incorporate game type activities while teaching techniques from self defense to different martial art combinations. It warms my heart the amount of pride my son leaves with after every single class. He even practices at home and shows his moves to anyone willing to watch. If you are looking to enroll, young to "old" ABSOLUTELY take a trial class and I guarantee you this is where you will fall in love!! My son has even decided he wants to be a karate instructor just like Renshi Tim when he grows up. I can not thank the staff enough for what they do not only for my child but all of the children in general. Hands down one of the best dojos in the area!! THANK YOU!!!

Fantastic experience: The instructors are awesome. They really help the kids learn everything they need to know. My granddaughter absolutely loves attending the classes and learning new things. The classes also teach kids respect. She enjoys making new friends . Terrific job to all the instructors.!!!@

Fantastic experience: Awesome instructors who are able to get the kids super animated and excited about learning without losing their focus or respect. The kids have so much fun I'm half tempted to sneak on the mat with them! Reasonably priced and they get so much out of it. The studio adjusted so well with virtual learning during the shutdown, and have made great efforts to ensure a safe reopening.

Fantastic experience: I was trained to the level of first degree black belt at this school about 10 years ago. Very happy to see they are still in business and doing well. The skills I learned here as an adolescent helped me in many ways besides self defense. Although I moved away and could no longer continue my education this organization played a roll in who I am today. Great for people young and old!

Fantastic experience: My family has been involved with Gabriele's Martial Arts for 20 years, and there have been times when were unable to make our full payment on time. The Gabriele's family was more than generous and did their very best to accommodate our needs, even if funds were not available in our account. Yes; they are a business and the business of business is to make money; if a contract is broken, there are consequences but that's true of any business. However, this is not their motto. This is a generous, caring organization that wants to make people better - physically and emotionally. The level of commitment from their instructors and staff if beyond reproach. Our family's experience has only been incredible. If you have the willingness to learn and grow, regardless of age or physical ability, this is the place for you.

Fantastic experience: We have been going to Gabriele's in Groton for 5 years. They have become our Family. We know they care about all their students. My son started at 5 years old, his big sister followed shortly after! They both have earned their Black Belt and it's a family affair...my husband and I train too now. Would recommend them to anyone who asks.

Fantastic experience: I have trained at GMA for 17 years..just to put into perspective, I am 61 years old now and a 4th degree black belt. From Muay Thai kickboxing to Shorin ryu Karate, Krav Maga the choices are endless, classes very convenient, instructors top notch. More than just your instructors, they encourage respect, mental and physical growth, and healthy living,. Step onto the mats and leave the rest behind....It will change your life for the better .
