Fantastic experience: Disclosure: I'm an adult student at Love School of Martial Arts, attending the evening classes. I've been bringing my elder kiddo to the "Little Tigers" class for a couple of years now, and, since he graduated to the evening classes, have begun attending those classes with him. Also, I've started bringing my younger kiddo to the "Little Tigers" class. I say that to say this: I've been observing the folks running this martial arts school for a good while, and I have only good things to say about them. For those of you with little kiddos, the "Little Tigers" class is fantastic. Both Master Love and Instructor Self are very good and patient with the kiddos, providing solid instruction in the basics of stances, blocking, and striking, but doing so in a way that is actually fun. While the class is designed for those who are 4-6 years old, some [including my younger kiddo] have started training at three years of age. Just saying that the two instructors are great with the kiddos is an understatement - last Halloween, they had a STAR WARS-themed lightsaber battle in front of the class, and everyone loved it. For older kids, including those who are *cough, cough* not thinking of anyone in particular *cough, cough* in their 40s, the weekday classes are the way to go. The school offers two different times, with the classes starting at 7:30pm M-R presumably being for adults and kids and the classes at 4pm M-R being primarily for younger kids who have aged out of the "Little Tigers" age range. If this is you, then get ready to hit the ground running. There are usually 15-25 minutes of calisthenics and stretching prior to the more formal training, and folks who are less than limber [like me] really benefit from that. I'm not sure if the 4pm class has quite as many of the black belts helping with instruction, but the 7:30pm class does, and they're solid, blending both good instruction and patience in whatever doses are necessary. It isn't Cobra Kai, and that's a good thing. It isn't Miyagi-do, either, and that's good, too. The school has a good, family vibe, and it is challenging, too. Maybe it's Miyagi-Kai? Whatever you want to call it, it's a good spot for anyone, regardless of age, to learn martial arts and also get more fit and more disciplined along the way!
