PSU Campus Recreation Center: Opinions

Positive experience: Decent gym if you happen to be on campus. The pool is big and awesome. Sadly, its missing a lot of things: - Equipment are lacking if you are into bodybuilding. Its missing a lot of machines/equipment that target serious lifters, even when you compare it to a traditional gym like 24 hour fitness - No Sauna or steam room?! Come on! - The lockers in the changing rooms are a joke. I can't even fit my backpack, let alone my helmet or any school stuff. So I have to work out and drag my stuff around the machines. - While bench pressing one day, an employee asked me to put sleeves on my barbell if I need to continue using the gym. This was the first time anyone has asked me to do this in my 16 years of lifting weights. Obviously he doesn't lift. Other than those couple things its not a bad gym for the average person. I like that you can charge your phone for free at the service desk while you're working out.

Fantastic experience: Disclaimer: I might be slightly biased because I work there. That being said, this is truly an incredible space for recreation, social connections, and various other activities (we have a little lounge for studying on the second floor).

Fantastic experience: If you're a PSU student, I recommend taking advantage of this place, especially the climbing gym. All the people there are super friendly and helpful.

Positive experience: The place is great but the weight room…Pls clean the bench pressing area. It smells like feces. A max cleaning operation effort should be performed on that area specifically. I mean literally smells like feces and theres stains on the floor.

Fantastic experience: If you go to PSU, your academic fees already pay for this place, so if you never go here, you are literally getting ripped off (sorry remote students ). The good news is, if you do go here, you get access to one of the best gyms I've ever had. In addition to standard gym equipment such as weight machines and treadmills, this place also has an indoor swimming pool, a small indoor track, a two-story rock climbing wall, as well as regular fitness, swimming, and yoga classes. In addition multiple student rec clubs meet here, such as the Latina Dance club, the weightlifting club, the fencing club, and many others (although some clubd may currently be inactive due to the pandemic). Overall, a 5-star experience. I'd highly recommend any PSU student who lives near or regularly commutes to PSU to check this place out.

Positive experience: Its a well maintained facility with friendly staff. The gym itself is rather small, only have 4 benches. I go early so its not really a problem. I enjoy the track and pool though.

Positive experience: Have been coming here since I started at PSU in 2018. The equipment is great and Love all the staff there! Except there is a new trainer (female) who is usually shirtless when she’s with male clients (in a sports bra) or wears crop tops and it just seems to be inappropriate especially in a professional setting. I get it’s a gym which is totally fine when you’re by yourself or with friends. But the other trainers or workers don’t dress like that and it kind of just gives visitors/members and other staff a bad vibe or image.

Positive experience: Where’s the sauna and steam room??! Also, the gym should really extend its hours of operation.

Fantastic experience: Best. Gym. Ever.

Positive experience: Good gym, you can usually use what you want; however, during the afternoon (maybe just during the winter) the whole south side is rendered virtually useless by the sun shining directly into, arguably maliciously attacking, your eyeballs.

Fantastic experience: Great equipment, modern building, a full schedule of exercise classes, and a great price for alumni passes. I enjoy climbing, and doing yoga here. Sometimes the staff isn't wildly knowledgeable, but there's always someone there who can figure out how to get things done.

Positive experience: As campus gyms go, this one is pretty excellent. Even better, they have a ton of classes available to students and staff which is fantastic. Their outdoor program is also phenomenal. Knowledge staff that run really fantastic trips to the backcountry, and tons of gear for rent at prices that can't be beat if you want to do your own thing. The climbing gym is on the smaller side but with great routes and lots of options. It's also worth checking out the pool which is quite large.
