Crunch Fitness - East Brunswick

Negative experience: Yesterday I applied for the free pass and someone called me today to say hello and welcome me for the tour and I decided to go after work then I was shocked that the front desk employee decline my pass saying that the manager just canceled all free passes at this time.. I was planning to apply for the membership after this trial but I'm happy that situation filtered my choices as I don't want this kind of management.. thank you guys

Fantastic experience: I was a health club regular for 30+ years until Covid hit, and my gym of many years closed most locations. I tried another gym affiliated with a local hospital, but it wasn't a good fit. I got a gift membership for Crunch in East Brunswick in 2024, and decided to get a personal trainer. I'm happy with the facility, which is convenient for me, and have continued my membership. I'm extremely happy with my trainer, Ralph Hernandez, who is excellent. Professional, courteous, knows how to motivate and encourage, and a decent human being. I look and feel better physically.

Negative experience: Got a free 1 day trial online for this location specifically but when i went it they said they won’t honor those right now. Could have fixed that online and saved a trip

Negative experience: I have been working out at this Crunch Fitness location for about three years, mainly because it is close to my home. However, I feel it’s time to honestly share some long-standing issues that need serious attention. 1. Cleanliness Needs Major Improvement The gym is consistently very dusty—on the equipment, mirrors, and even the floors. Any time you do floor exercises, you can clearly see dust moving around, especially when sunlight hits the area. This makes the environment feel neglected and uncomfortable to train in. 2. Equipment Frequently Out of Order There are always at least 3–3 machines that are broken or out of service. Even when maintenance eventually fixes them, the repairs don’t last or the machines feel unbalanced because they’re not properly adjusted. Reliable equipment is one of the most basic things a gym should offer. 3. Lack of Management Control on Gym Etiquette Many members occupy two or three machines at once, claiming they are doing supersets. Some sit on benches or machines while using their phones without working out. There’s no staff oversight to ensure people share equipment respectfully. 4. Noise and Mishandling of Weights People frequently drop dumbbells and barbells from high positions, creating loud noise and damaging equipment. No one from management steps in to correct this behavior. 5. Re-Racking Issues Members often load machines with heavy weights and leave everything behind. The next person has to unload everything before starting their workout. There is no enforcement of basic gym rules. 6. Restrooms Are Often Out of Order or Very Dirty The bathrooms are frequently unusable. They are dirty, not well-maintained, and often out of service. 7. Positive Note – Staff Are Friendly I want to mention that the front desk staff and management I interact with are always polite and friendly. They treat members well. The main issues are more related to maintenance and overall gym control, not their behavior.

Negative experience: Worst crunch I ever experienced. Policy changes depending on who’s at the front desk and the solution is always “upgrade your membership”. Canceling my membership as of today!!

Fantastic experience: I've been a member here for over a year and had personal training sessions with Ralph. He's a great trainer and I would recommend this gym to anyone in the East Brunswick area, it's very clean plenty of machines and space to do your own thing.

Fantastic experience: For somebody like me who is not disciplined with leg, chest, back, shoulder knees and toes kind of workouts, this place is still making me show up between work and kids and whatever else is happening. How? The HIT, strength and yoga classes are so good! I love it when other people, instructor included, suffer with me.

Fantastic experience: Crunch is a nice, clean, friendly and organized gym that is an absolute pleasure to work in. Everyone in the staff is friendly - included Nathan who always goes out the way to greet everyone with a smile. I feel safe and comfortable working out there. You always hear horror stories about toxic gym culture, but not here at this gym. It’s been a safe haven for all of those who want to better themselves, whether they are lifting professionally or only make to make it there for an hour a week. I would recommend this gym to everyone!

Fantastic experience: Update 10/12/2025: I'm NOW an 82 year fitness male for 62 years. My commitments to fitness and 59 years married are blessings that sustain me. Yet, Crunch Fitness EB is my secret sauce. I've been in every type of facility for 62 years. Crunch excels in all aspects eg. its Management, Staff, Trainers, Equipment, Cleaning Crew and Members (all ages-fitness focused). Thank you --------------------------------------------------- Prior 10/12/2025 Review History I'm an 80 year old fitness male for (60 years). Belonged to major clubs in East Brunswick for 50 years & before Brooklyn, NY. I joined Crunch EB Feb2021, as my best option (I'm particular) as existing clubs were closing or failing. This facility is well managed (Jessica) w/ well qualified & inspirational staff (trainers, class instructors, front-end). Some of the more experienced front-end folks (eg. Kathy, Chris, Nikole) & Mgrs (eg. Josh, Jake) provide a stabilizing mentoring influence w/ inevitable staff changes. The club offers a wide variety of services & well maintained equipment. Pool & Sauna are only options missing. The member mix (all-ages) is congenial & works for me. Attention to detail & members' needs is a proven hallmark of their commitment to sustained excellence. Thank you.

Fantastic experience: This was my first time at this gym, and I had a wonderful workout. The staff was very friendly, and all the equipment was in good working condition. I was able to complete all of my exercises without feeling overcrowded. I will definitely come back to work out again. I also want to give a shout-out to Nate, who was very helpful!

Positive experience: I really love this gym! The 5 a.m. staff are always friendly. It’s such a great environment to start my mornings. My only small suggestion would be to make sure the weights get put back in their proper spots—but overall, this gym is amazing!

Positive experience: Love this gym. The staff is pretty nice and the gym is overall clean. They have a variety of options available for equipment and I like that each machine has a QR code you can scan to let them know when something may not be working. The only minor things are occasionally paper towels are missing from multiple machines and you have to go hunting if you want to clean machines you’ve used. Also, some of the classes aren’t posted on the site which is frustrating when you’re mid workout and have to leave certain areas. Still, I give this place a 4 because it doesn’t happen super often and most times my experience is good.

Positive experience: The staff and everyone are friendly, the machines and gym are kept in great shape. The one thing if a machine is broke it does take alittle for the repair guy to come out and fix it. Other than that it is a great gym to belong to.

Negative experience: They trick you into updating your payment method to cancel, then keep charging your card anyway. The BBB should investigate these deceptive billing practices and hold the company accountable for continuing to charge customers after cancellation.

Negative experience: I would like to share my extremely negative experience with your facility located in East Brunswick. The attitude towards customers is absolutely careless. Two months ago, I called and requested to cancel my club membership. The operator was polite, assured me that my membership had been canceled, and told me that I would receive one final bill — and that would be it. However, today, after two months, I received another bill. Moreover, your employee told me that they had never received any cancellation request from me and that there was no record of my phone call! How is this even possible? On top of that, I am now being asked to open an *APP Store* account and go through the cancellation process again over the phone. During this time, money has already been taken from me for a new contract 2026 that I never agreed to. This looks like a deliberate way to take people’s money, and, frankly, like robbery! I am very eager to hear some kind of explanation and an official response from the managers of this company.

Fantastic experience: Crunch Fitness has been such a great experience! I joined the 6-week challenge with Coach Daisie, and she’s amazing - super motivating, fun, and really creative with her workouts. Her Kettlebells & Abs class was a highlight for me. I had no idea you could do so many different things with a kettlebell, and the class was both challenging and unique. The gym itself has everything you need, plus a super friendly, welcoming vibe that makes working out enjoyable. Sam is also an amazing trainer!

Negative experience: I had a very bad experience with this place. I signed up for my 15 year old son and asked for a trainer for 3 months only. After the 3 months were up, they forced me to pay an additional month, claiming that I should have informed them that we would stop. They prevented my son from entering the gym until he paid the amount. This is truly the height of exploitation. We will end this subscription and will never return to this place. I do not advise anyone to sign up with them.

Negative experience: I’ve dealt with a lot of businesses, but this is one o I’ve been a paying member at Marlboro for over two years. After traveling overseas, I came back to renew. By mistake, I selected East Brunswick instead of Marlboro. Within three days I caught the error and tried to fix it. Calls went unanswered. Management deflected me to the app, which only gives one option: pay over $100 to cancel a membership I never used for even a day. That’s not service—that’s rent extraction. A simple location correction was treated like a profit opportunity. The so-called “general manager” showed zero accountability, zero urgency, and zero regard for a loyal member. It’s the kind of short-sighted behavior you expect from a business more interested in squeezing fees than building trust. And in case anyone is wondering, yes—this is the kind of corporate reply you’ll get after: “We’re sorry to hear about your experience… your feedback is important… we’ll review internally.” Polite words, no substance. This is what garbage management looks like.

Fantastic experience: I normally don’t write reviews, but I had a great experience at Crunch in East Brunswick. Peyton walked me through the facility—very professional and well-spoken. Made me feel comfortable and informed. I’m looking forward to becoming a member!

Fantastic experience: Well maintained and good variety of equipment. Friendly and helpful staff. Things break often (high traffic gym) but they’re always repaired quickly

Negative experience: Honestly switched gym just to have access to heavier weights and better equipment but upon signing up and going soon as I walked in there was weights all over the place on the floors and almost all of the dumbells were not in their right places and it was just poor gym etiquette. As much as I would've liked to have access to better machines and more weights it wasn't worth the environment I would have been in. Maybe the rules should be enforced there or people should just have more respect for the equipment and the other people who are working out either way it was my worst experience in a gym environment and canceled my membership the same day I got it. Im glad I just put my planet fitness membership on freeze instead of canceling it because I would rather be there with less weights than in an environment like that.

Fantastic experience: Loving it so far. Their classes are great to mix in cardio and normal lifting. They have a wide variety of machines and staff is always nice.

Positive experience: Its a good gym when not crowded, and a decent one when crowded.

Negative experience: Got a three day Free Trial Pass from Crunch's website, only to show up amd find out that they don't actually honor it during the summer. I was offered a chance to PAY to try their gym, which... if I'm being honest is hysterical. I came to gauge if I thought it was a good fit for me, and was already deceived and offered something different than what I thought I was getting. I don't know who thought of that gimmick, but it needs work.

Negative experience: If I could give negative stars to this place, I would. Horrible experience trying to switch gym location from East Brunswick to East Windsor. They recommended my young kids cancel East Brunswick membership just 4 days after they signed up to switch to East Windsor location. They of course agreed because they did not understand fully and were not explained charges appropriately. We ended up paying $33 for signing up for the first month (towards the end of the month), $75 annual membership fee for cancellation, and $34 for the next month even though that month hadn’t yet started (and that gym won’t even be used for that month). Plus the East Windsor location is also the same chain, called Crunch, and has charged separate monthly charges and annual membership fee. The Manager I spoke to had no care or consideration for customers. What a scam and ridiculous treatment of young customers!!

Negative experience: I wish I could review the gym itself and possibly join, but I wasn’t even given the opportunity by the front desk employee. I got the trial pass online along with my teenage daughter. When we came in, in the late morning she said that they are not honoring the free trial in the summer due to all the Highschool and college kids. Apparently it gets crowded. That’s good to know. Don’t want bunch of kids running around. Then she proceeds to say that my daughter can’t take advantage of the free trial because she’s under 18 even though the fine print clearly states “unless accompanied by an adult.” She just kept repeating “are you looking to sign up?” You can use the gym if you sign up. No, I’m here to see if I like the place and by the way I was greeted and turned away, I will never consider signing up.

Negative experience: How hard is it to cancel a membership? Apparently not that easy. Staff is great but the management staff on the other hand is completely UNPROFESSIONAL! I called the location due to their cancelation team not helping and of course (Jessica) manager couldn't handle a complaint or a conversation and hang up on me! No Customer service at all. Look elsewhere in the area don't waste your time.

Fantastic experience: I am so impressed with this gym. I haven’t belonged to a gym in many years so I was a little apprehensive. When I signed up, I worked with Jake and he was super helpful and explained what all my options were at the gym that would be a good fit for me. He was so professional and since then has gone that extra mile to make my experience w Crunch a great one! The gym is always clean and the classes are always fun with great teachers.

Fantastic experience: pretty cool gym! it’s always clean and never too packed from when I usually go(7-11pm)! Free weights, equipment, and lots of treadmills which come in handy for someone who can’t lift at the moment. glad i transferred.

Having had the opportunity to experience many different classes, I wanted to take a moment to commend Rachel K, who stands out as an exceptional instructor among a very talented team. As a group instructor, Rachel delivers clear and concise instructions in a very approachable manner. She encourages every participant to achieve their personal best while offering thoughtful modifications for those with physical limitations. She also has a wonderful ability to provide corrections supportively, without making anyone feel singled out. What really sets Rachel apart is that no two classes are ever the same. She constantly varies the exercises, thoughtfully creating unique workouts that are fun to participate in. It's evident how much preparation, knowledge, and creativity she puts into every session. As a personal trainer, Rachel is equally outstanding. She is approachable, flexible with scheduling, and very accommodating, which has made it easy for a busy person like me to stay consistent with physical fitness. She designed a personalized program that specifically addressed my needs and weaknesses. In addition to the exercise program, she provides nutritional advice that is concrete, actionable, and supported by evidence. After just two months of personal training with Rachel, I can truly feel the difference. Finally, beyond her professional skills, Rachel's personal qualities are just as remarkable. Her sense of humor, positivity, and genuine caring nature make every session something to look forward to. I feel fortunate to train with Rachel, and recommend her wholeheartedly to anyone looking to improve their fitness in a supportive, motivating, and expertly guided environment.

Fantastic experience: So far most accommodating facility I’ve been to, love that there are plenty of classes to take, options for personal training and plenty of equipment to use for personal workout. The staff are easygoing and friendly and I appreciate the gym’s manager, Jake, for reaching out and checking in when I first signed up to make sure I was adjusting okay between having my baby and starting to go the gym!

Fantastic experience: Great gym! Great equipment, and super, terrific group fitness class schedule… There is always something good going on there. The management staff is also fantastic. They really listen to the members and it’s an all-around good experience.

Negative experience: Why is it so hard to cancel the gym memberships. They take your money, but never ever once, send you the notifications for any gym membership renewals so that the consumer can make an informed decision. Their contracts are always one sided and never about the consumer. I am really getting tired of they misrepresentation about the month to month contract and how they bills a consumer. They take our money, and most of the time, the equipment doesn't work, the equipment leather is torn or worn out.

Negative experience: Month to month and no commitment is another scam. It's at least 2 months + annual fees . You also need credit card and a bank account so they can charge as they please. Open floor no sections and looks chaotic when slightly busy.

Positive experience: Been to many gyms over the years and have a solid understanding of how things should work. This is not intended to insult anyone only to provide an honest review. - Place has a good selection of free weights and machines mostly clean and maintained - People who work here seem pleasant ( Trainers are busy and look like they care ) - Issue is with the people who attend - Very crowded all the time - Membership is very young with most looking like HS age - Seems like most just want to say they go to the gym and really have little interest in a true workout - Very few people actually workout ( Except the older crowd ) - Many have no clue what it is to work out and spend most of their time talking and texting - The outfits are entertaining to say the least - I have never seem so many out of shape young girls who have somehow come to believe they should display the skin - Outfits for this group are about 2-3 sizes too small - There are members who come to the gym with tripods for their cell phones to video something... it’s not working out.. not sure what this is all about.. - They setup these tripods and then go socializing and lock down the equipment for a long time... only to return for one or two reps - As with many gyms there are lots of machine sitters who sit and stare for a long time in between attempts In the end you get what you pay for and this is close to HS gym class... If you cannot live without your cell phone for 45-60 minutes you are not working out. Still the gym is worth a look with the large amount of equipment and location. Just be prepared to work around most of the kids... UPDATE - I continue to enjoy the gym BUT they need to fix the equipment. The cable and Pec machines are both down for over a month. They are very popular and having them down really impacts your workout. I counted six "out of order" signs today... Maybe time for a full inspection of all the equipment. Once again this is good gym that simply needs to address these issues...

Fantastic experience: I used to dread workouts but my awesome trainer, Sam, makes working out so much fun! I actually look forward to going to the gym now and can't get enough of it. Sam motivates and encourages me to achieve my goals without overwhelming me. Sam is a very professional and knowledgeable trainer. Working with him, I've noticed a huge difference in my strength endurance. I'm feeling fitter and my overall confidence has increased. Overall, the gym is really great and I highly recommend Crunch - East Brunswick!

The equipment is top-notch, the space is always clean, and the energy in the gym makes every workout feel motivating. Whether you’re lifting, doing cardio, or taking one of their group classes, there’s something for everyone. A huge shoutout to Toby—he’s absolutely fantastic! His knowledge, enthusiasm, and support make such a difference. Whether you’re a beginner or experienced, he takes the time to help, motivate, and push you toward your goals. Fantastic experience: Very clean gym. Staff is friendly and welcoming. One of the nicer gyms in the area. Friendly atmosphere.

Fantastic experience: Very welcoming front desk personnel, great workout environment. Equipment always available and always feels good walking in and out of the gym! Noel is a phenomenal worker, he helped me sign up after being only a guest for a month. Very good crew!

Equipment is almost always in great condition despite how many people come in and out daily! Noel is an outstanding employee and I hope the company and gym recognize their efforts!

Fantastic experience: Great local gym. Jessica (GM) and Ralph (PT) are true professionals. I see some of the members (former) complaining about the cancellation process even though it’s very simple. You call a number. It doesn’t get any easier than that. Also, memo to the members: Please put the equipment/weights back where they belong. Be respectful to the rest of the Crunch community!

Fantastic experience: This is a great gym! When I joined, I worked with Jake to sign up for personal training. He was very informative in helping me understand what the options were. I was paired with Ralph, who is an amazing trainer. As someone who hardly ever worked out or went to a gym before, I definitely needed encouragement and guidance. Ralph was motivating and informative! The front desk staff are always welcoming and kind. It’s always nice to see Christos, Kathy, Jess and the rest of the staff when I come into the gym!

Fantastic experience: This place is awesome. Nikole is the nicest worker I’ve met at this establishment. It’s super clean, fun, upbeat environment and Nikole always makes sure to say hello when I walk in and ask how I am doing.

Fantastic experience: I go to the gym every day and am always satisfied with the customer service especially with Fahd. He is the nicest person I’ve met at the gym and always helps me when I need it. If you ever come to crunch in East Brunswick make sure to talk to Fahd for any of your problems.

Fantastic experience: Good local gym in East Brunswick. Staff is friendly and usually greeting guests. Monthly rate is reasonable. There’s something for every fitness level here. Do note though that sometimes the gym can be pretty packed during peak hours so I recommend going early or coming late.

Negative experience: Mirrors have hand prints and finger prints well over a month now and no sight of it changing. The staff actively works out with in the gym. You would think since they share the gym it would be much cleaner. They notice the finger prints on mirrors, the broken equipment, garbage cans being full and spilling over and do nothing about it. As if they're paid too little to clean the gym and keep it nice. All they do is make sure you check in and that's it. Weights are all over the place. Never ever put back. Weight tree is constantly empty. Dumbell racks broken, Dumbells in all different spots across the gym and not even on then racks. Nobody is enforcing proper gym etiquette and respect for others gym goers. No respect for the older generations. Filled with teenagers that leave all the weights on the machines and or barbells. They tend to use it as a hang out and block some of the machines for a long periodds of time with groups of friends. Machines broke for long periods of time, a month or longer. Like I said in the beginning, everyone you see at the desk when you check in and out, you will see using the gym and doing nothing to improve it. Takes 5 minutes to clean a mirror. Even if you did 1 mirror a day it would make a huge difference. They all look at it. They all see the weights all across the gym and do absolutely nothing. Probably the laziest staff I've seen. Iv been going to this gym for years. The past 2 years it has gone down hill extremely fast. It is a very very busy gym with the high-school being 5 minutes away walking distance. When it's not busy. It is not being cleaned or maintained at all. If you enjoy poor gym etiquette, manners, and no common courtesy. This gym is for you. I canceled my membership after years. Save your money and go somewhere else even if you have to drive a little further. I'm glad I did.
