Negative experience: The old gym has the same equiptment from 5 yrs ago, except that they shut down the swimming pool and whirlpool. They cannot get their App to work when you check in.
Appreciate the feedback! We don't offer the wet area anymore, however we have been adding new equipment to the facility over the past few months. Hip thrust, 2 Leg curls, and some cardio equipment. Fantastic experience: This gym is just amazing. Their treadmills are always clean and functional. Plenty of space to pick a treadmill in case someone wants to bother you and get in the treadmill right next to you when the entire floor is open. They also have a dark room with treadmills and a movie screen going for those shy or bad hair day workouts. They have a basketball court but that I’ve seen the dudes are usually in charge over there. The classes and instructors are just too amazing. They canceled their Core class cause no one would go in the morning. Their yoga classes are too invigorating. Their barbell classes are always full. I have yet to try their spin class, but those always fill up also. And then they have their open floor with weights but I still haven’t learned how to use them. This gym membership is completely useful. I highly recommend. The array of classes is just amazing. Love this gym.

Negative experience: The gym is good itself , but the amount of money you loose , and they take out of you’re account is crazy. I’ve lost around 200 in just two months , with out being able to get a refund, just because I was waiting on my cancellation . I don’t even know if my membership is finally cancelled , either way all the money is lost , and I don’t even go to that gym anymore due to the amount of rules too .

Negative experience: It used to be a nice gym now you can't find any of the weights it's run down, staff still friendly though but the gym is terrible, I travel and go to other Golds gym and let me tell you the level of quality puts the one in Brownsville to shame!

Positive experience: The gym looks pretty well taken care of staff is nice, lots of different equipment and well spaced out but the sauna is entirely too small to be a mixed sauna, on my very first day i tried going in there and there was like 9 guys ass to crotch in there there no way my wife is gonna get in there with me nor would i want her to.
I appreciate the feedback and glad you enjoyed the club. I understand your concern about the capacity of the sauna and possibly was just bad timing as it rarely gets overcrowded. Positive experience: The sauna is very far from the locker room so you have to go to it and from it fully clothed (drenched in swet now… including your socks and shoes) but is not as hot as in TruFit at Sunrise. I think it’s like 155, which is way too low. Takes a long time to break a swet. That being said it is a lot cleaner than TruFit and less overcrowded and they don’t have that loud annoying music. This gym is ok but at Brownsville standards (if you know what I mean)

Negative experience: Never have I ever struggled so much to cancel a gym membership. Gym refuses to give you national contact information to do this over the phone or online, so you have to do this in person. Good luck cancelling if you're out of town.

Positive experience: The staff is very nice, but this is the only Gold’s Gym I’ve been to where staff don’t help re-rack weights. I’ve never seen a pair of dumbbells in place. Can we address this, Manager?

Positive experience: Nice clean machines and gymnasium. Some keys are missing on the machines and mats are too thin for laying and stretching.

Negative experience: The cancellation process at Gold’s Gym is engineered to steal and take as much money from you as possible! I cancelled my membership the same day I created it, because I already knew it took 30 days to cancel. I did this with one of the managers and he said everything was fine and my account would be canceled and I wouldn’t get charged again. After one month went by I got charged again! So I went back, canceled and filled out the paperwork and had to be charged again since it took 30 days. I am then charged again two months later. I spoke to the manager telling him the situation and he took me for some liar, thinking I made everything up. He asked me “did you take a picture of the cancellation form?” As if this is my fault that I didn’t have proof! How incompetent is Gold’s Gym that they don’t have a system in place to record cancellation forms. So then I had to fill out another cancellation form, take a picture of it, because apparently they are so unorganized they don’t keep them recorded. This was the 3rd time I had to do this. I also had to get charged another month because it takes 30 days to cancel. So I I called my credit card company and told them to give me back those credits. All was fine until I get an email from a collection agency for twice the amount I owed them. I had to pay this absurd payment because I need my credit report clean. Do not go to this gym unless you want to get ripped off or stolen from. They do not trust their clients. I expect a call from this company and I will post this message every week until they resolve it.

Hey Mark thanks for the review. We don't offer the pool anymore as an amenity. It has been closed for a few years now. We do however have a full schedule of Group exercise, Basketball court, Cardio cinema and many other things to offer to members.

Negative experience: The gym itself is nice without a doubt. The owner/GM though made the task of canceling my gym membership a nightmare! It took a total of two in a half months to cancel my membership with weeks of email traffic/phone calls. Once it was canceled the owner even had the nerve to do it one day after another month was charged to my account and there was little I could do considering I had moved halfway across the country. Absolutely a terrible process when all you're suppose to do is submit a cancelation form and be done with it. Hopefully, a one off experience that no one else has to deal with!

Fantastic experience: Just moved back into town after 10 years and considered canceling my gym membership to try one of the new spots in Brownsville. Luckily I procrastinate and was able to visit this location and I’m glad I did. The staff has been great, from being greeted as soon as you walk to having some of the training staff and management offer tips on some of my subpar strength movements. Fantastic experience: My husband and I go almost every day! The classes are fun and give you a workout. The gym is clean and a lot of equipment so you don't have to wait to work out. I just wish they would open the pool and sauna again.

Positive experience: It's a really big gym with a lot of machines and a full basketball court. Which is awesome. The reason I gave it a 3 was due to them no longer offering pool as I was told it was shut down indefinitely, and sauna was also out of commission.

Negative experience: No women’s area, no sauna, no pool & only 1 standard punching bag. According to staff member it is a permanent change & these amenities will not be available in the near future (next 1-2mo.). Nothing like the rest of the golds gym valley wide. Staff was almost too chill & very passive. I was not offered a tour at initial request/sign in as required. I spent about 15mins of my work out visit figuring out where & what equipment was available gym wide. Very large space and open concept but the setup makes the ambience feel congested & stuffy work out with only 12ppl in the gym.

Fantastic experience: Great gym but I wish they did not have subtitled movies. I can't stop from reading.
Positive experience: There are a few odds and ends missing, like clips, pins, knobs, and things like that, but it's a good gym overall. There's a good selection of free weights and a 2 squat platforms. Once you know which equipment you want to use and how to work around some of the missing bits it's good, but it did take some adjustment for me. None of the equipment there is in unusable condition.... unless you're missing a pin.... or a clip

Fantastic experience: This is a great home for fitness in the Brownsville area. Spacious, plenty of options for cardio, lots of machines and dumbbells. She has made the time at Gold’s Brownsville the best experience my wife and I have ever had with staff at a gym anywhere.

Fantastic experience: I move a lot for work but recently I got live in Brownsville for a little and at such I went to Golds gym. When I started I was very skeptical about personal training until I met Jaimes Perez! When I started working with him I grew exponentially! I gained 30lbs while maintaining 10% body fat! That was insane! This dude has 27 years experience and he tailors the training to the person! I have had bad experiences with trainers but Jaimes is one of a kind. The staff and team are very welcoming. They created a good gym environment.

Fantastic experience: This is a great gym! Javier manages it very well. It's clean and inviting with an abundance of different weight and cardio machines as well as a large free weight section. Everyone working here is friendly and happy to see you! I worked with Jaime P. as my trainer for a little over 2 months. He's AWESOME!!!!❤️ He listened to my goals and concerns and created a training plan perfect for me. He has years of knowledge and a million certifications - so he's your man for any kind of training you may be looking for - strength, body building, functional.... He can get you where you want to be. The price of personal training here is exceptionally reasonable. It is worth every penny and then some! I highly recommend this location!! Note: I travel 100% of the time all throughout the US. I have been to many, many gyms and have had many, many trainers. This gym has everything you need and Jaime's experience is as good/better than some trainers in big metropolitan cities.❤️❤️

I have definitely learned my lesson and will sign with any other gym company before I EVER return to Golds gym and will surely pass on my distaste to my friends and family so they too do not fall victim. Being in the military and a frontline worker with Covid, I did not have the liberty to frequent the gym and once covid shut everything down, that option was out anyway. And to add to it, Golds only allows you to cancel from the same location that you signed up, how convenient right? Golds gym continued to charge my account, after I supposedly was not on contract, and even charged their annual fee during that time as well. I incurred a balance because I ultimately blocked them from making any kind of charges to my account due to none of them even being authorized! I also had signed up for personal training and paid ahead of time but only received 1 session and was not reimbursed. You would think they would credit my account and ultimately cancel the erroneous charges they continued to make but that would have been too sensible and courteous for this establishment. They always choose to do what benefits them and not the customer. So now that my money has been taken out of my account without my knowledge and I have incurred a bill all while working 80+ hours a week tending to covid patients, I am still receiving calls and messages to the point of harassment about paying the balance which should have been zeroed out! Ludicrous!!! DO NOT USE THEIR SERVICES! This is my second time and best believe there will not be a third. I will pay quadruple the monthly amount at a different facility to receive honest treatment and care that places the customer first before I even sign my pet up for exercises at Golds gym!!

Fantastic experience: Gold's gym is the place to go its a few dollars extra than your other gyms, but its so worth it! Staff is always welcoming and friendly. They sanitize everyday and they have a wide option of workout equipment. If there's a gym you're looking for, this is the place! Good luck on your exercising journey!
