Marino Recreation Center: Opinions

Fantastic experience: One of my favourite Northeastern Gymnasiums. Great availability, and accessibility.
Fantastic experience: Definitely a go to place if you want a good workout.
Negative experience: Denied entry to Merino Gym with Husky ID after paying $70 Recreation fee for Spring '25. Unreal.
Fantastic experience: Best university gym
Fantastic experience: Well Equipped and Maintained.
Positive experience: Great gym and very pretty but not enough weights and machines - always way too crowded and not good enough to support an university
Negative experience: Great idea to cut a giant hole in every floor and make 75% of it a café. Looks pretty but zero functionality.
Fantastic experience: Simply the best gym in Boston.
Positive experience: It is a nice facility but it is way too small and always crowded unless you go at 6 am or 10 pm. For 20,000 students, the equipment is lacking.
Positive experience: Almost always crowded
Positive experience: lil bit crowded
Fantastic experience: Amazing Gym
Positive experience: Always crowded during the peak time.
Fantastic experience: Great gym!
Fantastic experience: Excellent resources for working out and playing badminton
Fantastic experience: Good
Fantastic experience: Northeastern gym it houses 3 wooden basketball courts.
Positive experience: Too busy
Positive experience: During peak hours, the gym is unable to accommodate all students. It appears that the gym should be expanded in order to meet the demand.
Fantastic experience: A very well equipped gym! The only problem is the long queues at the peak hours!
Fantastic experience: Well equiped
Fantastic experience: Best gym for Neu students
Negative experience: Can't wear crocs or need clips when benching? Maybe you should hire people who actually have used a gym before because the workers here are so dumb it makes me want to transfer schools. They have no idea how gym safety works.
Fantastic experience: It’s typically pretty crowded, but Marino is a solid gym with great hours
Negative experience: Crowded and under equipped. 5 squat racks and 4 benches for a school with 20,000 people which results in half-hour lines to Bench/Squat. 1 set of dumbbells over 27.5 pounds. Ridiculous rules which include no deadlifting anywhere EXCEPT the squat rack and that you are unable to video yourself. Locker room is clean and the staff are friendly at least.
Fantastic experience: Functional gym, tends to get full during peak hours
Fantastic experience: I am an alumni over 50 and love this facility to workout in. The staff is great and you are around people full of life. Remember Would you rather be the oldest person in a gym or the youngest person in a nursing home. :) keep working out!
Fantastic experience: Gets crowded during peak hours, better to check the live stat before heading to this place.
Fantastic experience: The place is clean, spacious, with numerous equipment. Apart from the regular gym weights and machines, it has 2 studios, a big race track, and 3-4 basketball courts. Worth taking a membership
Fantastic experience: Every equipment that you can imagine of is there here. Just gets a little too much crowded in the evenings
Fantastic experience: Busy almost every evening
Fantastic experience: Busy
Positive experience: This recreation center has a lot os positives and negatives. Although the atrium is beautiful and looks stylish, it makes the gym feel small and disconnected. The fact that they have 5 squat racks and 4 bench presses for 20,000 students blows my mind. The free weight section is always packed to The brim during the school year so it’s not even worth going most of the time. Although I have my issues, I do like that they have 3 basketball courts, heavy bags, a spacious locker, and a SAUNA. Cool place but i probably wouldn’t be going here if it wasn’t included with my school.
Fantastic experience: It is the best gym of all I have ever been to!
Fantastic experience: Great place for fitness. I go everyday. Shandar, jabardast, jindabaad
Fantastic experience: Great place to refresh
Negative experience: This gym is absolutely terrible. If you enjoy your workouts taking 2+ hours, with at LEAST 50% of your time spent standing around waiting for a machine to open up, this is the right spot. There are 17000 students at NEU, and one actual gym, with three floors of cardio equipment, and an extremely overcrowded weight section that is about 1/6 the size of the cardio section. It’s gotten to the point where it’s nearly unusable. Not only is the lack of equipment the problem, but they don’t have any variety compared to other gyms. Also they charge all students an additional rec fee on top of the 70k tuition.
Negative experience: Horrible student gym, lines to bench or squat every day, get angry whenever you try and deadlift, horribly run, just get a membership somewhere.
Fantastic experience: Great place to workout regularly
Fantastic experience: Gorgeous first rate facility. Four floors. What a resource to students. Watch the drone video on line.
Negative experience: I won’t go back here again if they do not lift up mask mandate. I cannot breathe when doing high intensity training with mask on. Keep destroying your business, NEU
Fantastic experience: Best facility for neu students with sauna, lockers and plenty of gym equipments. Basketball courts are well maintained.
Negative experience: Way too small for quantity of students. Not nearly enough machines. Also just does not make sense that you can’t bring bags into the actual gym. I loved going to the gym and I started hating it after going to northeastern.
Positive experience: Pretty good. The only thing is it could use more pulleys and the machines seem too few for the number of people using them every day. It gets really packed some days.
Positive experience: It's a nice facility with nice equipment. But, this gym isn't nearly large enough for the university. There's way too many students here. I've actually stood in a physical line for 45 minutes just to use a squat rack. It's ridiculous. NEU, this is not enough. Harvard has like 7 gyms and not nearly as many students.
Fantastic experience: Multiple gym floors for various activities.
Fantastic experience: I used to go to Marino everyday before COVID. It's a well equiped gym with any personal or group classes. Affordable price for the students and most of the people there are affiliated to Northeastern University.
Positive experience: Super good
Fantastic experience: Its a awesome place to have workout or participate in sport activities with people of diverse age groups within 18-30 mostly. They don't have professional trainers but if you know what you are doing then its awesome.
Fantastic experience: Amazing place to workout and chill
Fantastic experience: A Great place for fitness enthusiasts! A wide range of opportunities of various gym equipments, includes a separate running track, and indoor cycling & fitness studio
Negative experience: Very clearly a vanity project first, a gym second. It looks great, but the actual space to do anything is extremely low. During any intramural season they will routinely have only 1 basketball court for all 20,000 students which is pathetic.
Fantastic experience: Best place to workout ! Sauna available
Negative experience: The employees need to wear deodorant . Like please, whoever is the manager please for all that is holy ask your make employees to just slap a little old spice on. Nothing is worse than tasting someones last meal while I deeply inhale breathe after a deadlift.
Positive experience: Passed through to parking, bought water.
Fantastic experience: Awesome place. Well maintained.
Fantastic experience: It’s complete
Fantastic experience: Love the social distance set-up.
Positive experience: Haven't seen it fully yet because of the pandemic but I hope it's good and everything must be available in sports section. University gym is good but a guide/trainer must be available for guiding people how to use certain gym machinery. COVID measures and precautions are taken everytime with good planning. Please make sure there's drinking water supply.
Fantastic experience: Safe and well equipped
Fantastic experience: Clean and they have all the necessary equipments. Evenings can be crowded with University students.
Negative experience: Absolute joke of gym, seriously. App doesn’t work half the time, sign up times are grabbed as soon as they open up. This “gym” also has more rules than your average prison. Part of my tuition goes for this recreation center service and I can’t even use it. Definitely go to the ymca or bsc instead. Wish me luck trying to get a refund for the semester.
Fantastic experience: Great place , great customer experience , world class gym facility
Fantastic experience: Awesome place offered by the University, has so many options for a perfect workout. Only problem is you need to sit uptight to get a spot for reservation. The gym slots gets booked very quickly.
Positive experience: It's okay just the appointment was kinda annoying
Fantastic experience: Excellent place to workout. There are equipments available for different muscle development routines and there's a running track for cardio. I love that there's a Sauna for relaxation.
Fantastic experience: Superb area!!
Positive experience: Good commercial gym with lots of equipment including barbells and reasonably heavy dumbbells (up to 110). Decent array of machines. Too small for the Northeastern student population. All in all, a good gym for the average college student but not fulfilling if you're a more specialized or higher-level athlete.
Negative experience: This building must have been designed by a brilliant architect who has never actually used a gym— tons of natural light, not nearly enough equipment or floor space.
Fantastic experience: Great place if you manage to avoid the crowded times. This place reaches capacity quite fast, so it's important to go at the right time to make the most of it.
Fantastic experience: A state of art recreation center for Northeastern fellas.
Positive experience: Weird setup for a gym and many machines are missing. Also it gets very crowded and it's hard to use the facilities, especially showers, during peak hours. However there are two indoor basketball courts.
Fantastic experience: Try to access the gym early in the morning or late in the night. Otherwise it is pretty crowded.
Negative experience: The dispenser is always running out of wipes for the machines and unless you go before 10AM it is going to be so packed you will be lucky to find any elliptical, treadmill, or bike that isn't occupied.
Fantastic experience: My all time favorite
Fantastic experience: Best college gym in Boston
Positive experience: It is the one stop for workout, bath, snacks and rest
Fantastic experience: They've been playing great classic rock music recently
Positive experience: Great place to work out
Fantastic experience: Plenty for everyone
Positive experience: Typically very crowded. Nice staff!
Fantastic experience: World class gym with every equipment you can think of along with various sports like basketball, badminton, volleyball etc.
Negative experience: Trash bars and super crowded on weekdays
Positive experience: If you're going here, then you're an NU student, so price is "free", though I think adding a rec fee to the tuition is a bit unreasonable. Equipment is well-maintained, clean, and relatively modern. There's a couple basketball courts, a field hockey arena, an indoor track, and a few aerobics rooms in addition to a reasonably equipped weight area and a TON of varied cardio machines. Classes and training are offered as well, but I haven't done either. The big problem is that it's not able to serve as many students as it does. The hours are actually really good for a uni gym (5 AM?!), and the space overall is big enough, but the balance is off. There are always plenty of open cardio machines and rarely open power racks and benches. This isn't helped by equipment often being broken and/or missing attachments, rules against deadlifting outside of the racks, and having only one toilet per floor. Also, forget Olympic lifting, there are no platforms or bumper plates, and they're not very tolerant of noise. Overall, if you have access to Cabot and want to lift, go there. If you don't, strongly consider Squashbusters when it's open; it's smaller, but proportionally better balanced and less used. Otherwise, Marino isn't bad, it just shoots itself in the foot in a couple ways.
Negative experience: Very cramped, machines just thrown randomly in the hallways. Not much order to where things are placed. Extremely crowded at almost any time of day.
Fantastic experience: Perfect place to workout
Fantastic experience: Sometimes crowded. But quite a nice gym to have on campus.
Fantastic experience: Fun place to workout
Fantastic experience: Daily goto gym.
Fantastic experience: Good large gym, too crowded
Fantastic experience: Its a huge gym and I like the quality and service provided by the staff here at Northeastern.
Positive experience: It's a college gym. No complaints about the facilities and staff, but get extremely packed at times and the weight room is intimidating for new gym goers.
Negative experience: Straight garbage. The school needs to expand the gym.
Fantastic experience: Awesome equipments and maintenance
Fantastic experience: Mind boggling Ambience plus gym is so well bulit
Fantastic experience: Great gym with lot of indoor courts and a track.
Fantastic experience: The best gym. I am speechless to describe.
Fantastic experience: Best gym to workout in...
Fantastic experience: 器械非常多,学生免费,人数不算多
Fantastic experience: Gym, yoga, zumba, kick boxing and many more activities. A cool hangout for northeastern lads.
