Fantastic experience: The best gym for age 12 or 11
Thank you for your rating, it shows your support! We do want to provide a safe and healthy place for all ages! Some members get upset about having youth in the gyms but we feel they need a safe clean place to expend energy like everyone else. Starting our kids on healthy journeys is important to us! Thank you for taking the time with your kids, they will never forget it!

Negative experience: This gym is a complete ripoff. They charge a small fortune for three locations that are falling apart. The Main Street location might be “clean,” but it’s riddled with holes in the walls, uneven floors, and the AC is never on — good luck trying to survive a workout there in the heat. The School Street location is an absolute disaster — disorganized chaos, torn-up floors, no AC, and a disgusting odor that hits you like a wall by afternoon. It’s downright unbearable. The South Side location? A graveyard of ancient, outdated equipment that should have been tossed years ago. Prices keep climbing despite this neglect, and if you think a day pass will save you, think again — it’s a ridiculous $35 for this rundown excuse of a gym. To add insult to injury, I was overcharged for months. Getting a refund was a headache and a half because the owners clearly care more about lining their pockets than fixing anything or treating members right. Do yourself a favor and skip this money pit. Drive to Willits or anytime instead — at least you won’t feel like you’re paying for a glorified sweatbox with zero upkeep. I wish I had another option In town.

We strive to maintain a welcoming, clean, and functional space across all our locations, and we’d like to address a few of your concerns directly. We’re glad you acknowledged the cleanliness of our Main Street location — we do work hard to keep all our facilities clean and inviting. Regarding the air conditioning, the system is equipped with interlocks that disable HVAC operation when windows are left open. This system was implemented during COVID for safety, but unfortunately limits HVAC performance when windows are not fully closed. When closed, the system functions as designed. At the School Street location, since taking ownership, we’ve replaced two HVAC units, added a third, and installed insulation where there previously was none. Most members have commented positively on the improvements. While we haven’t received prior complaints about lack of AC, we’ll certainly look into it. Regarding the flooring, we’re aware of a small uneven area on the east side. We’ve already removed nearby trees contributing to the issue and are working with a contractor on a long-term solution. At the South Side location, we recognize that the building is older. Because of its location within the airport commission zone, we’re limited in what improvements can be made and how quickly permits can be processed. However, we’ve replaced much of the original gym equipment and moved older equipment outdoors. Some indoor equipment was replaced under warranty due to early rusting, which was out of our control. On pricing: we haven’t raised rates for existing members unless there’s a change in their account. The $35 day pass was introduced to reduce misuse and protect our regular members’ experience. We chose to keep day-use as an option and instead added more flexible one-week and one-month passes based on member feedback. Lastly, if this review matches the account we have in our system, we find it worth noting — respectfully — that despite the one-star rating and recommendation to try other gyms, records show that you continue to use our facilities regularly, at times, twice a day, including after posting this review. While we understand frustration can build, we hope this suggests that you still find value in the services we provide. We are a locally owned business and always welcome direct feedback. Fantastic experience: I loved my visit
Thank you Jeanine, often people will review when they have a bad experience, not often when it is good! We appreciate you! We try to have staff be kind, hard working and we continue to try to improve on the facilities. At times its hard with getting all the permits, county and city approvals.
Fantastic experience: I appreciate the way Jessica leads the group in pool exercises from 10 to 11 Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. That's what keeps me coming back.

Negative experience: I had the most horrific encounter over the phone with one of the owners of the club regarding my membership dues. I usually freeze my membership for the winter, resuming in June thru September. I forgot to call on June 1st to postpone my membership until the fall, as I’m having a knee replacement soon and unable to come in. I saw there was a pending charge on my Visa card and called to say I’d be out a few more months, and could they please reverse the charge. The friendly staff said of course, so I thought that was it. The next day I saw the charge had gone thru as a charge, so I called again and the kind gentleman that answered said he would let management know. I followed up with an email just to confirm this, and once again thought it was resolved. Today one of the owners called to tell me I didn’t give a 30 day notice, so she would not reverse the change. I said that this was unreal, I’m expected to pay a full monthly fee for 1 day. She said I’m required to give a 30 day notice and that I had to pay the full amount. Then she asked if I wanted to freeze until September! I said I’d never be back! I’m 72 years old, on a fixed income. While this won’t break the bank, I thought it was a horrible way to treat someone. A full month’s fee for 1 day. Unreal. The customer service at this place is awful!

Our records show that your dues were drafted on the 1st, and you contacted us on the 2nd to request a refund, as you did not extended your freeze. As outlined in your membership agreement, we require a 30-day notice for any changes to billing or membership status. While we always strive to accommodate changes as quickly as possible, we’re unable to backdate freezes once a draft has been processed. Once the payment is submitted to the bank, processing fees and administrative costs are incurred that we cannot reverse. Fantastic experience: I love going to the Aqua Aerobics classes. I attend classes taught by all three teachers: Melinda, Jessica and Christopher. I would like to see the Thursday night at 5:30 PM Aquaerobics class with Melinda restarted.

Negative experience: In a pinch it gets the job done. Very dated and dirty place work the outside equipment and inside not in great repair. I would say the place is in need of a major facelift and I only visited because I was in town for the week. The men's locker room is falling apart the lockers and the general area.

Lynn, this was my fault (John) I was working on the pool late into the night to keep it open and the temp did drop 2 deg when we opened. It’s not normal that we have to do larger services, but I was happy to have it up and going with minimal downtime
Fantastic experience: I think Alexa is an excellent Pilates instructor. Her classes are challenging and she keeps the exercises varied. She is knowledgeable and helpful if asked.
Fantastic experience: Shout out to UVAC staff -- to the cleaning crew who constatly work to keep it shiny and to the friendly accommodating front desk staff! Maribel is always friendly and welcoming, and she handles everything efficiently. She practically knows what I want before I even ask. Ask Kaylee If you need any extra help with Libby or Kindle. She's a whiz. Deni, one of the owners, is, an excellent teacher, kind, and generous with her time. Also, I began at the club as an add-on to my roommate's membership. After he moved away, I had to establish my own membership, and they waived the initiation fee for me. They could have charged me, and they didn't. Thanks UVAC! Since I retired, I consider working out to be my job now. And UVAC is my home away from home. Two pools, yoga, TRX, Tai Chi -- tons of classes. The sauna... ahh... They also have a nice little cafe and sitting areas, with good food made by Boont Valley Farm. Gather has just added to the menu. Yum. And also new, Giants games aired live in the treadmill room! ⚾️

Thank you Jason, there was a change in ownership just over a year ago, since then, many good changes have come. Unfortunately, getting the health, safety and then the infrastructure was set as a priority. I am sure as you were in there, you noticed all the HVAC (air conditioners) were working, the mechanical, and sanitation systems in the pools have completely been re done and upgraded, some new cardio and other equipment, we have redone studios, and child care. Next month the free weights are getting a complete make over. This is to touch on some of what’s gone on since the change of ownership. As for prices, the only thing that has been done with it, under the new ownership has been to clean it up for better understanding and easier to manage, some went up a bit, others went down just a bit. Last thing, any rate changes we put in place will not apply to current members. Any rate change will only apply if you change your membership or sign up after the rate change. We want to be loyal to all our loyal members. Once again, thank you so much for your feedback, without feedback we would just be guessing on what people want in the gym. Positive experience: I’ve been a member of this club for over 30 years. Sticking with it through all of the ownership changes. Basically I I love the place although I primarily use the outdoor pool. Unfortunately I did not get honest communication when my husband paused his membership and my rate then doubled. How can this be good business? I feel disappointed and disrespected. If I would have been informed of the increase I could have made an informed decision.

From the moment you walk in, you can feel the family-oriented atmosphere. Whether you want to swim, hit the weights, or join various group classes, there’s something for everyone. What I appreciate most is the fantastic kids club, which allows my children to have fun while I focus on my workout. The sense of community here is incredible, with members from Ukiah Valley and surrounding areas coming together. It’s a place where fitness meets family, and I genuinely enjoy every visit with my loved ones. Highly recommend! Ps there little motivation notes are some of the greatest to see in the mornings
Fantastic experience: Have been going to the UVAC (RWHC) since 2014. Going to this gym for a decade and have seen the growth of the entirety of management to counter staff to maintenance! Now to have the opportunity to also work for the UVAC is a blessing. John and Deni have went above and beyond with accommodation and improvements over the past few years and it's phenomenal what Ukiah has to offer when the right people are running the show!
Negative experience: This place is way too much its not that nice of a gym only good class is zumba and its late at night price gouging !

Fantastic experience: This club is great and has everything and then some. I use the pool and hot tub frequently and they are clean and good temperature. When problems arise admin takes action. I wish there were more classes offered for working people hours (ie: 6-8:30am and after 5 pm) but when I can arrange my schedule the classes have always been great with knowledgeable facilitators and good energy. I’ve been a member for almost 10 years.

Negative experience: Maybe one of the most disgusting places I've ever visited in my life. Everything about this place is nasty, the showers, the pool, the sauna ( ewww ). For the price your charging and what you get it's just not up to date. I even would pay more of it would be clean. But hey guess it's Ok in Mendocino. I don't know why u still in business - guess people have no other options, I was in 2000 year old roman bathes in Europe and it was cleaner and nicer. I would be embarrassed to work there. Hope you going to change the place and make it nice , clean and enjoyable!!

Negative experience: Tried switching my account from access to all the gyms and taking my boyfriend off mine to the 24 hr option for myself only. So I buy a membership online, afterwards I go to the main office to get my key card. Everything went well fees were paid off and I was given my new key card for my new account. Fast forward like two or three months; payments have been made for my account automatically and I misplace my key card. I go back to the office to replace mine on 2/16 and there was a younger girl at the counter who was incredibly unwelcoming and rude. Maybe she’s having a rough night so I try to be super respectful but she was really getting on my nerves by how condescending she was acting after being pretty polite to her. When I give her the info to my account she brings up an issue, Apparently I have two existing accounts still under the same name and same phone number and I found out that I was supposed to be given a form to sign to cancel my original membership. I was not given a form, payments were not getting processed for my original account, last time I was in there fees were paid off, and payments have been made for my new account. At this point I am super confused and frustrated, she was very vague and unhelpful. She had me quickly sign a document I didn’t even get the chance to read or get a copy of and told me that the owner would call me. She proceeds to scan a key card and give it to me, I use it at the gym that night. Situation seemed kind of sketchy to me and so far I haven’t received any other info or call from the owner. This whole process almost made me want to cancel my entire gym membership altogether and I consistently go. And now my key card won’t scan after I just got a new one, so frustrating. Yikes.
Katrina, I want to start off thanking you for being polite and understanding. I just pulled up your account, I see that you had an account with another person on it but it was past due in September, no payments have been made and no cancelation requests have been received until recently. I do have documents of the amount of failed attempts to contact you via phone and returned mail (usps) about the past due You continued to use it in September. You are now several months past due. I also see that you now signed up online about a month ago for a new account with just the downtown locations on it however you are still past due. Had you come in to sign up we would have caught this right away. We also would have had a notification if you used the same phone number, but you have a different phone number and address now than you did on your past account. (we understand things like this change, but as a business owner there is no way for us to know without you letting us know) When I pulled up your account just now, I see that Deni did call you earlier today 2/19 left a message letting you know if you pay for the month you used the gym she will forgive the other 4 months. I made contact with Deni she said you were very polite and you both will be meeting up this week to get it resolved. I do apologize if the staff was confused, it took us a bit to figure out what was going on also. Our software is not always the easiest for our staff to navigate and we are working on that. I do appreciate how polite you have been in dealing with this. I am replying on this as we typically respond to all e-mails, texts, calls, reviews etc.

Negative experience: I called to find out about lap swimming. I was shocked at the outrageous prices and the woman on the phone was the so nasty I decided to make the hour drive to Santa Rosa YMCA where a day pass for swimming is $8.00. You can always count on the Y having great people who care about your health and wellness.
Negative experience: I used to love going to this place. But lately it's turned into a bit of a mad house with unsupervised children and teenagers running around everywhere. I hope they get a little stricter on the rules when it comes to supervision.

We had a very pleasant discussion about how difficult the decision was for them to make in regards to the Silver Slippers program and how hard they tried to make it work. I want to apologize for my comment that I posted, "They will no longer support Seniors by accepting Silver Slippers health care programs….", I really should have tried contacting John first to see exactly the reason for the decision and how they were working make the Health Club still affordable for Seniors. Bonnie We are bending over backwards to support our seniors with what we are offering to qualified seniors. For qualified seniors (all silver sneaker and renew active members) they get the membership cheaper than in 1996 when I was selling memberships. How many businesses can say that? I would love to talk to you about why we are not continuing with the program after the new year. It was not a decision we just tossed out there. Negative experience: Not very friendly to out of town gym goers like us. $30 for a day pass… I was a little irritated about that, but what made it worse was how outdated the equipment was. We tried a couple different machines that were broke and the nice Rogue plates outside were falling apart. Hope my $30 goes towards maintenance and new equipment.
First I want to say I apologize if staff was not friendly. We will look into that. Every review we go over. Due to our weather here, anything we place outdoors does not last long. So we upgrade the indoor equipment and place the older equipment outside. We are limited with what we can do outdoors due to the airport restrictions. Because of that it is typically older equipment that is outdoors where it’s exposed to the weather and abuse. The $30 a visit, we had to raise our day use rates because we were getting too busy with day use guests and it was pushing annual members away. The business model is a membership base not a day rate. We thought about not allowing any day use but did not want to take it away completely. We also hav many day use people bring large groups leaving big messes . We are open to discussion on all of this, please feel free to call and ask for John. We want it to be a good experience for all.

Positive experience: I'm a new member. I can only share my overall experience and the indoor pool and hot tub area. This was all very nice, but the hot jets wouldn't work. My biggest negative is that although many classes are offered, they seem to be all upstairs, so this is not accessible for all.

Most likely someone hit the red emergency stop button, when that is hit, a staff member needs to reset it from inside. The classes, is hard and due to gym layout and building design we are limited, pool classes and spin classes are held downstairs, but all others are upstairs. The building is in the airport commission area so we are legal non confirming. Meaning we are very restricted on any modifications and changes. We wish we could change more on the layout and building but have our hands tied. Feel free to come talk more about this with us so we can find something that can work:) John

Negative experience: Would give 0 stars if it were an option. They lost a personal check that was for updating payment information so they kept charging the monthly fee but it wouldn’t process since they failed to update the account. Couldn’t use the gym for 2 months due to this but we still had to pay even though it was their error. There was also a cancellation fee after all of that. This place is a complete rip off and customer service was horrible. Reply to response. My husband spoke to the owner himself about the problems because he knows him personally so don’t lie. No the cancellation fee was not waived or the amount we paid today to cancel would’ve been less so again stop lying to try to look good. The account was past due since your employees lost the payment method before they updated it so just stop.
I want to first apologize for any miscommunication, this is the first of management knowledge of this situation. I just pulled up Lomax, I see that there was a past due account, that is now canceled, I see that we waived late fees that were charged to you, I see that you did use the gym last month several times, no cancelation fees were charged and we were able to process it same day waiving the 30 day cancelation policy. There was multiple calls and texts to your phone number on file. This is all assuming you used a different first name than your are using for this review. We want to provide the best service possible! We are locally owned and value every member, past, present and future

Fantastic experience: The Athletic Club is an integral part of community health in Ukiah. It has one main club and two other annexed gyms on Main and on Mill. The equipment is quality and maintained. The management has an obvious belief in continuous improvement, especially in regards to facility maintenance and upgrades.

Fantastic experience: Lots of classes to try my favorite are Buti Yoga and pilates also Zumba the instructors are really helpful. The new ownership doing good job getting things done, new machines the awesome things is the childcare service you can just add your kids in to your account and enjoy 2 hours a day of free kid club access, kid yoga class on Sunday which Deborah is the awesome teacher also horse play with Nate on Saturday morning that so perfect for my energetic 6 years old. The staff are so kind and helpful just like your family, they occasionally offer parents night out for affordable price.
We can’t thank you enough for your kind words! There is so much to do keeping 3 gyms up and going. Some locations needed a lot of work and much of the work is in the background. We consistently try to balance the upgrades in the background and the upgrades members see and feel daily.
Positive experience: Good enough equipment for every kind of exercise + enough equipment for everyone. They constantly add new machines.

When we bought this business several years ago we wanted to provide good service to our community. We feel that we have been able to achieve that majority of the time, but there is times we fall short. Positive experience: Not sure how often I'll be paying for a day pass (30$) they do offer a week one I believe it is 75$. Their prices did just recently rise to this. Price is steep but you do get to use the entire facility. The staff is always nice and helpful. The gyms are clean. The pools are nice, both indoor and outdoor swimming. Racquetball is always a fun pass time after my swim.
Thank you for your feedback! We were debating on restricting all day passes due to how busy we get at times with day use passes. It takes away from our members that support us year round. We decided to raise it a little instead of dropping it all together so people that want it can use it. Thank you for noticing the pools, we have switched ALL pools and hot tub to salt water to offer the best we can. As you mentioned we do offer 1 week passes as you stated and 1 month passes. The one month pass gets you into all 3 gyms for the month.

Negative experience: At UVAC - The front end staff are not friendly or welcoming in any way- in fact it's quite the opposite. If you ask questions they seem inconvenienced and annoyed. When a membership is purchased, the staff didn't offer a tour or any supportive information about the facility. This facility is old, run down, and often not even having adequate showers available for use after a work out or a swim. Just the staff alone makes you want to go somewhere else to better spend your money. Not a good experience and not recommended. I feel they need way friendlier staff that offers some professional,customer service skills and to have people there that actually do want to help the paying guests. Also, it is Super overpriced for what is offered
Tasha, we would love to talk about your experience. We typically have good reviews and many great compliments on our staff. We would like to know more about this if you would be willing to share. As management if we don’t hear it, we can’t fix it. As for the showers, yes, we did a remodel on the women’s shower room, it’s completely remodeled, once we found out it was going to take longer than expected, we rented a portable shower unit so our guests would not be without. Sorry for the inconvenience while we were upgrading. We did our best. Please let me know if there is a good time to talk so we can continue to improve the facilities and address any staff issues. Negative experience: Everytime I go there half the machines are closed down and no one around to fix them poor staff poor management save your money and go elsewhere
Negative experience: It bothers me that you spend almost 200 dollars a month to work out but half the machines are always down. To get help is impossible or the people are rude. Theres 8 tredmills in this room and really only 4 work, ive drove down 3 times and to get on a treadmill has been impossible unless you go outside like the front desk told me to do.. at 5 am and freezing outside. Was late on 1 payment due to sickness and they charged me over 30 dollars for 1 day late. For how much it costs to go here youd think they would spend the money on machines that people use and treat their members better
Just seeing this review. First sorry if not all treadmills were up and running, we did have some damage to several treadmills where someone broke off a part of several treadmills and the replacement parts took a few weeks to get here, it is not common to have more than 1 of the 15 down at a time. If your paying $200 a month, that’s because you have 4 or more on your membership. Our software does apply a $9 late fee if late and if there is a problem with your credit card, they charge a 23.50 service fee. None of that comes to us, that is the software company and it’s spelled out in the contract. If it is ever due to us or an error we could have helped, we cover that. If it was not something we could control then it is passed onto you.
Negative experience: Indoor mask wearing is ignored.
I want to apologize if you feel that is the case. We do random patrols and get after people to wear their masks. In addition, when a violation is brought to our attention we address it ASAP. We have suspended several memberships when we find repeat offenders. We have also installed UV light in all the HVAC systems, ULPA filters and an Ionizing system that works to reduce the viral load should someone come in that was contagious. We have done more than any other building I have walked into in the past 2 years. Again we apologize if you feel that way.
Fantastic experience: The BEST UKIAH HEALTH CLUB. The OWNERS and STAFF Treat MEMBERS as FAMILY with TOTAL RESPECT. The SAUNA, Indoor / OutDoor Pools, KID’s CLUB as well as the Scheduled CLASSES / TRAINING, and EQUIPMENT ARE For STRESSED SPECIFICALLY For THE MEMBERS PRIORITY. I TRULY FEEL AT HOME.

Fantastic experience: The staff is incredibly and genuinely kind and helpful. The facility looks fantastic and is spotless (extreme cleanliness). One can see and feel the care that is put into this facility.
Fantastic experience: This gym has come a long way in the right direction with the current management. The gym is clean, the staff are kind, and the services are great. This particular gym has both indoor and out door pools, sauna, jacuzzi, indoor basketball, racket ball, fitness classes and more. The gym also offers a fitness pass they call the "black card" which gives you access to two additional gyms in Ukiah, for an additional fee. Overall, a fantastic place to work out. If you are curious, they have no problem giving you a tour to check out for yourself.
