Fantastic experience: Amazing instructors and classes. Been going for two months and I love it

Negative experience: I had the misfortune of training with professor carlos a while ago - he was not a good instructor - I do not recommend this gym

Fantastic experience: We stayed in Bellevue for one month, and let our two kids practice BJJ here. Even though we only joined two-week program, we still had relax and warm feeling in Gracie Barra. The staff is so nice and welcoming. Professor Carlos and other professors are professional and patient. They encouraged our kids and let them become confident. Highly recommend!

I was new to BJJ (and really self defense in general) but they’ve made me feel so welcome, took the time to break things down for me, and enthusiastically answered all my questions (even if it was something the others were getting more quickly). As a side benefit, it’s also been the best workout of my life and has quickly gotten me into shape! Love the community and love the studio!

Fantastic experience: Both my kids go to Gracie Barra Bellevue and they absolutely love it here. The coaches are super welcoming and supportive. The professors and coaches strike the perfect balance between being friendly and professional, creating a positive environment that encourages students to excel and grow. Their approach to teaching is commendable. Not only do they focus on the physical aspects of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, but they also instill values such as respect, discipline, and perseverance in the kids. Many of the younger students here choose to stay for extended periods, as evidenced by the significant presence of gray (gray-white) belts within the 3-5, 6-8 age groups.

Fantastic experience: I visited earlier this week as a guest. The drop in fee is very reasonable, they had a high quality clean GI ready for me to wear. Everyone was nice and accommodating! Professor Carlos was very friendly and it was easy to follow his instruction in class. I'm currently a blue belt and I do appreciate that he has a class for blue belts and above. Great rolls. Fantastic experience: I absolutely love the Gracie barra sessions. It’s my first encounter with martial arts and I am truly happy I selected jiu jitsu and this particular space. The masters are very friendly, encouraging and patient. The overall environment is great.

Fantastic experience: Dropped in while on a work trip and they provided all my gear. Everyone at the gym was awesome, professor Carlos was really knowledgeable/helpful, and they seemed to strike a good balance between competitive and fun. Have been to many gyms and i know how to spot the good ones now. Would definitely recommend this gym.

Fantastic experience: My son and I are training in Bellevue. I like the BJJ training culture and how Professor Carlos cultivates it in the group. Assistant coaches are also very attentive. My son is in love with it and wants to train everyday.

Fantastic experience: Visited when I was in town. I was welcomed with open arms like family. Originally came from a different Bang affiliate in Northern New York, with Coach Rick who essentially created my love for Muay Thai. It had been years. I forgot my kickboxing numbers and combos but was never judged nor felt unwelcomed. Thank you Coach Ryan and so many others!

Fantastic experience: An excellent area Jiu-Jitsu school. - Facilities: Clean and well organized. Two massive mats allow for two simultaneous classes, usually a fundamentals and advanced class. Mats and surrounding areas are kept clean and free of clutter. Mats are in good condition and well maintained. - Instructors: Rodrigo and Carlos are both professional, skilled instructors. Both talk clearly through techniques, demonstrate moves and requirements multiple times, and push students to perform at the top of their ability. Rodrigo speaks excellent English and Carlos is good, such that language isn't a barrier. This school teaches the Carlos Gracie Jr / Gracie Barra branch of jiu-jitsu which emphasizes both competitive and survival techniques. Most of the emphasis is on competition quality jiu-jitsu. Students spar daily and the school heavily focuses on active training and a wide range of resistance levels. There are both gi and no-gi classes, but most of the emphasis is on traditional gi jiu-jitsu. I haven't taken boxing here so I can't comment on the classes, but they teach both Boxing and Kickboxing.

The higher level belts are super friendly and welcoming to newbies and the teaching from professor Carlos and the other instructors is superb! If you’re considering joining a martial arts gym or a bjj gym specifically, I’d recommend you try this one!

Fantastic experience: I love this Gym, The People and The Family atmosphere. They have welcomed me with open arms and the feeling is mutual. I can't think of a better place to start your journey to fitness and self-defense. It is hard work but sometimes you forget that because of the comradery. Greg is a very motivating guy who really loves his work and his dojo reflects him. If you have any doubts, I suggest you try it out knowing that Greg only wants your business if you are completely satisfied.

Fantastic experience: Discipline, discipline, discipline. Carlos is very good with the students and does not let them get away with much. I have two kids in the program who love to go, wish they offered more classes.

Fantastic experience: Carlos is a great instructor! Harsh and demanding of the technique details from his students which is the best way to learn. He will stop class and correct students from practicing bad technique before they make them bad habbits. Really friendly environment. all the other black belts are patient and helpful. Also this location has a super awesome workout area, and a cold water machine! Only downside is it is pretty dirty but still 5 stars for bjj gyms.

(Carlos just took 1st place in his division in the 2018 Pan Ams out of 16 other contenders). The owner is a stand-up guy. The other students are some of the nicest people I've ever met. Fantastic experience: I have trained at GB Bellevue for several years. The people I've gotten to know here are like family now. The main instructor, Carlos Sievert, is a highly skilled teacher and jiu jitsu practitioner, as well as a warm and encouraging mentor. The general vibe is very friendly, from the beginning classes, to the high intensity competition rolls, to the kids's curriculum. As well, there is a full conditioning program on the Monkey Bar Gym half of the school. Of course, as a Gracie Barra affiliate school, you are free to train as much as you like at other affiliates, in Kirkland, Seattle, Issaquah, Bothell, and Federal Way, as well as in cities around the world. The schedule is full of options for classes on different days and times

Fantastic experience: I love this gym! If you're looking for a family oriented place that teaches real jiujitsu , this is your gym! Professor Carlos has had a huge positive impact in my 3 children lives, he's extremely knowleagble and teaches the kids important values such as respect and loyalty. In the little kids class coach John works in partnership with Professor Carlos promoting a respectful and fun environment. There's also boxing and muay Thai classes with coach Dec as well as strengthing and conditioning with coach Greg, both extremely dedicated and focused on personalizing their teaching so you can feel welcomed regardless of your athletics skills. This gym feels like a huge family , they're so welcoming that my husband decided to go back to train Jiujitsu after over 15 years. THE BEST BJJ gym in the area, for sure!

Fantastic experience: Gracie Barra Bellevue is a world class Brazilian jiu jitsu academy. I have the privilege to train here alongside some of the best Brazilian jiu jitsu competitors in the world. However, what I love most is that regardless of if you are a fearsome competitor or someone who likes to train for fun, everyone is treated with the same level of respect and like family. Here at Gracie Barra we are a big family and I get that feeling everytime I step into the gym. Over the many years of training here I have developed lifelong bonds with my training partners and instructors and it has been a pleasure to see our progression together. The blood, sweat and tears has really built Gracie Barra Bellevue what it is today, and it is glorious. You may say I'm a little biased, but I urge anyone to come and try jiu jitsu. I did and here I am 9 years later full of life lessons, happiness, friendships and stories.
