The Sporting Club at The Bellevue is an esteemed fitness destination located in Philadelphia, known for its luxurious amenities and top-notch facilities. Over the past months, the club has experienced significant growth in membership, making it a vibrant hub for fitness enthusiasts. Members appreciate the wide variety of offerings, including over 225 fitness classes each week, a state-of-the-art gym floor with Technogym equipment, an Olympic-sized swimming pool, and relaxing spa facilities like saunas and steam rooms.
Highlights:
- Diverse Class Offerings: With a comprehensive schedule, members can find classes that cater to all fitness levels, including Pilates, yoga, HIIT, and more.

- Welcoming Staff: The club's dedicated and professional staff enhance the overall experience with their attentive service and friendly demeanor.
- Engaging Community: A thriving member community is fostered through various social events and activities held regularly at the club.
While the club has been praised for its offerings, some challenges have emerged with managing the increased membership, leading to higher demand for certain classes, especially during peak hours. Some users have reported difficulties in securing spots for popular sessions and utilizing the spacious remote work areas effectively. Additionally, occasional issues with communication and maintenance post-renovation have been noted, along with concerns regarding guest access and the pricing structure.
Despite these challenges, The Sporting Club at The Bellevue remains highly regarded as a premier fitness facility that embodies luxury and quality. Visitors are encouraged to tour the club during peak hours to get a firsthand understanding of its vibrant atmosphere.
The Sporting Club at The Bellevue: Opinions

Negative experience: Over the past four or five months, the club has seen a dramatic increase in members. Classes are more difficult to book (good luck getting into Pilates!) The pool and running lanes are perpetually full. The locker room is overcrowded and consistently out of towels. The remote work areas are always occupied. I loved the club when I joined a year ago, but the current reality does not justify the sky-high sign-up fee and monthly membership rate. I only give two stars instead of one because the reception and locker room staff are all incredible even through they are stretched thin. If you want to join, I encourage you tour during peak hours (4:00pm-7:00pm) to see what you're in for!
Hi Jacob, Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback with us. We truly value your perspective and are sorry to hear that your recent experience didn’t meet your expectations. We completely understand the challenges associated with increased demand, and we are committed to making improvements that will enhance the overall experience for all our members. Please know that attendance can fluctuate, and we are actively working to address this. We take your comments seriously and are exploring various solutions to improve class availability, pool access, and the overall use of our facilities. Your feedback regarding the locker room and remote work areas is especially insightful, and we are collaborating with our team to find effective ways to ease congestion in these spaces. In addition, we are continuously replenishing towels and encourage members to make use of other available workspaces throughout the club, such as the Club Room, Library, Golf Pavilion, Fitness Floor, and the SC Bellevue Room on the 3M floor. We are also proud to offer over 225 classes per week, making us the leader in class offerings among single facilities in Philadelphia. This expansion from 190 classes just a few months ago is a direct reflection of our commitment to providing high-quality, membership-inclusive offerings, and our data-driven approach to ensuring our classes meet member demand. Our diverse, newly added, class offerings include popular options like Hot Yoga Sculpt, Pilates Mat, Pilates Reformer, TRX, Yin Yoga, Barre, HIIT, and Hot Hatha Yoga. Additionally, we’ve introduced exciting new classes, such as Power Barre and Hot Pilates Mat, to further enrich our program. We’re also grateful for your kind words about our staff. They are dedicated to providing exceptional service, and your recognition is greatly appreciated. Rest assured, we are continuing to add support to ensure they have the resources necessary to meet the needs of our growing membership. If you’d like to discuss your experience further or have additional suggestions for improvement, please don’t hesitate to reach out directly. We are committed to ensuring your continued satisfaction at the club. Best regards, The Sporting Club at the Bellevue
Fantastic experience: Love it there, classes are great, having squash is a huge plus!
Thank you for the wonderful review! We're so glad to hear you're enjoying the classes and that the squash courts are a big plus for you. We appreciate your support and look forward to seeing you again soon!
Fantastic experience: This is the BEST gym in Philadelphia!!!! They have everything you need for a successful workout. Basketball court, indoor track, hot tube, cold plunge, sauna, steam room, fitness classes , spin, trx, business area, game room, snack bar. The absolute BEST!!
Thanks so much for the review and pictures! We appreciate your kind words and are happy you are having such a great experience here!
Positive experience: A friend brought me a long for a trial to see if I'd like to switch over from City Fitness. I will say the whole building is immaculate and new. The gym equipment is very new, though for the size of the gym floor, there isn't a huge amount of equipment (esp. in terms of cable machines and bench presses) and so I can see it getting crowded in peak hours, especially as they continue to increase their membership (even on a rainy cold day, it was fairly busy). The other facilities, like the spa/sauna/pool and courts, would probably be the thing that would make the very hefty membership worth it (something like $350 sign-up fee, then $199 per month; I pay only $80 per month at CF), since CF makes you pay a $125 supplement for access to their NoLibs pool. Overall, I'm not switching over just yet, because at least with CF I have the flexibility of multiple locations. But if I got more into regular swimming, I would come here; or if they reduced their sign-up fee to something reasonable (like $100).
Hi Evan, Thank you for taking the time to share your detailed feedback! We're glad to hear that you were impressed with the cleanliness and newness of our facilities, as well as the variety of amenities we offer. We understand that the gym floor can feel crowded during peak hours, and we're actively working to ensure that our members always have a positive and comfortable experience. We also appreciate your thoughts on membership pricing and the value of our pool, steam, sauna, and courts. We know our membership structure may not be the right fit for everyone, but we’re committed to offering a premium experience for those who enjoy the full range of services we provide. For the most up-to-date information on our membership pricing and current promotions, please feel free to visit our website. We completely understand your decision. Should your needs change in the future, we’d be more than happy to welcome you back! Thank you again for your review, and we hope to see you again soon. The Sporting Club
Fantastic experience: The Sporting Club is an exceptional facility. The energy, equipment, layout and amenities are unmatched. I have the best workouts here and have also been a member at Equinox, Lifetime Athletic and Fitler Club. This club is thus far my favorite. Thank you Thea for exceptional customer service and looking forward to meeting you!
Thanks, Rebecca, for your fantastic review. We thrilled to hear that we are your favorite club and that you are enjoying your workouts so much. Enjoying your workouts is key to wellness!
Fantastic experience: Nice gym nice facilities
Thanks, Ahsun, for the 5-star review! We are very proud of our 100,000 square-feet of wellness and appreciate your taking the time to compliment us!
Fantastic experience: I’m a new member but so far am really enjoying the facilities and classes. I haven’t found it difficult to get into yoga or Pilates classes (Admittedly, I’m taking them during the day.) The locker room, hot tub, and sauna are well-appointed.
Thank you so much for sharing your experience as a new member and wonderful photos! We’re thrilled to hear that you’re enjoying the facilities and classes. We appreciate you sharing your real experience getting into our group fitness classes. We look forward to continuing to support your wellness journey and to seeing you around the club! In health, The Sporting Club Management
Negative experience: I had a decent experience at The Sporting Club overall, but I recently cancelled my membership because it didn’t quite live up to expectations. One of the main issues that led to me leaving was the fact that the club’s membership has increased dramatically over the last six months. I understand that their incentive is to have as many members as possible, but this results in the club being very crowded during peak times. I was super excited about the fitness classes when I first joined, but the rapid membership growth resulted in it becoming very difficult to reserve a spot in any class that isn’t held during the workday. To get a spot, you essentially need to set an alarm for when a class opens each week, but even this doesn’t always work because of how much competition there is. The increase in membership also made it a lot harder to find a place to do some remote work during the day, since there are only ~15 comfortable seats near a power source. It was also (understandably) too loud to take calls, so I can’t really recommend it as a place to work remotely. I definitely lost some respect for the club when they refused to honor their membership policies. When I asked which section of the membership agreement states that a freeze can’t precede a cancellation, they were unable to answer and seemed very unhappy that I wanted to cancel my membership at all. Also, they charge a $25 fee just to freeze your membership, which is such an obvious cash grab. Considering how high the monthly fee is (not to mention the sign-up fee!), it didn’t feel great to have them try to wring as much money as possible out of me before I left. It’s worth mentioning that the facilities are very high quality. There’s a ton of space, the locker rooms and showers are super well-kept, and there’s a great rooftop area. I think it would be a good fit for someone with a very flexible schedule so you can avoid peak times, or if you really want a pool since that’s difficult to find at other gyms.
Hi Brooke, Thank you for sharing your detailed feedback. We're sorry to hear that your experience at The Sporting Club didn’t fully meet your expectations, and we appreciate you taking the time to highlight both the positives and areas where we can improve. We understand your concerns about the increase in membership and the resulting challenges with class reservations and crowding during peak times. We're continually working to balance accessibility for our growing community while maintaining a high-quality experience for all members. Your feedback will be helpful as we evaluate how to better manage class availability and overall capacity. We also apologize for any frustration regarding the membership freeze and cancellation process. We strive to be transparent with all our policies and to provide a positive and respectful experience for all members. We will take your comments into consideration as we review our procedures to ensure they align with member expectations and needs. We're glad to hear you appreciated the quality of our facilities, including the locker rooms, rooftop, and overall space. Thank you again for your feedback. We genuinely value your insights and hope you'll consider giving us another try in the future should your needs align with our offerings. The Sporting Club
Positive experience: Great club but very hard to get into the mat Pilate classes and the reformer. It’s upsetting !
Hello Lisa, Thank you for being a valued member of The Sporting Club and for taking the time to provide your feedback! We are working on several internal updates which we believe will make class registration easier for our highest demand classes; we look forward to releasing these updates in the coming weeks. If you have any additional questions, please feel free to reach out! In Health, The Sporting Club Management Team
Positive experience: Let me start by saying I have written maybe 4 reviews in my entire life. I very rarely find the need to leave feedback, especially online, but since this is an instance where people would be spending a lot of money, I figure I would leave my feedback. Let me start with the positives: The gym is gorgeous. I joined in November of 2023, so I'm unaware of what it had previously looked like, but the gym facility itself has come a long way even from when I joined. The space is large and the machines are top notch. They offer many classes every day, so surely there is a time that works for you. The more popular classes like Pilates or spin are definitely tougher to get into during peak times, but if you are able to go during your lunch break you shouldn't have issues. The trainers and staff have been nothing but welcoming and kind. They maintain and take care of the place with great success, and I am always greeted when I walk through the door. The instructors are also wonderful. Each one I've had has been motivating and friendly, making the class a challenge but rewarding! They also have a PT clinic which I took advantage of after knee surgery and the PTs were such a joy to work with. Finally, the location is great for those living in the city. If all of these factors were the only feedback, I would give this place a 5/5. There are some great features about this place that make it a good place to work out. Now for the cons: I'll start with the obvious one, the price. When I joined in November of 2023, they were still not offering tours to the place. So I was unsure of what it looked like when I signed up for the membership. It was something like a $225 sign up fee and $175/month. It's insane and IMO, really no membership is worth that kind of money, but I suppose I see why. They offer classes and really it was worth it for me because I wanted to use the pool, which is also very nice. The main con that is associated with this place is the culture. Gym culture now permeates every single gym in America, so that is not really SCB's fault, but for the price, you would think they would try and put a stop to that. Every finance-tech bro in the city seems to go to this gym. I make it a point to go during work so that I can go with the least amount of people as possible, but lord help you if you decide to go during peak hours. Between the gym shark and TREN, I'm not sure where people would find the space to even work out. Another comment said something about it being "stuck up" and I agree completely. Again, NOT the staff. The people who go there. It is one step away from being an influencer gym. I had one particular interaction that is indicative of what I mean. I decide to play some pick up basketball, and while I definitely am no world class b-ball player, I consider myself athletic. I just wanted to get some cardio in. Boy, did I make a mistake. The dude I was guarding got frustrated at my playstyle which led to him cursing me out and hurling homophobic slurs at me. I get the passion of the game gets to people, but this guy created such a cringe situation that really the only thing I could do was stare in awe. Everyone did that thing where they put their hand over their face to cover how embarrassing it was for him. Not to mention this guy was in his late 40s to early 50s, yelling at me, someone half his age. But hey, I figure better me that night than his wife later. That snapshot I think lends itself to the members of the gym. It is really unfortunate because the gym is beautiful and the classes are such a plus. It's just a shame that when average people like me go, they have to endure the culture that is heightened by the gym's exclusiveness. I want to stress one more time that the staff at the gym are great. However, there is an issue with the type of person who goes there. The environment feels less like a place where you can go to better yourself, and more a place where you can watch a Bryce take up 3 machines.
Dear Stas, Thank you for taking the time to share such a detailed review and for your kind words about our gym, our staff, and the services we offer. We’re glad to hear that you’ve had positive experiences with our facility, classes, and the PT clinic – it’s great to know that they’ve been beneficial for you, especially after your knee surgery. Your feedback regarding our equipment, space, and welcoming staff is much appreciated, and we’re thrilled you’ve enjoyed those aspects of your membership. We also truly value your constructive comments and understand your concerns about the price point, gym culture, and the experience during peak hours. We work hard to create a supportive and inclusive environment for all members, and we regret that your experience with other gym-goers didn’t reflect those values. We take these kinds of interactions seriously and will continue to focus on fostering a positive, respectful community for everyone. Thank you again for your feedback. We’re committed to improving where we can and appreciate your insights as we work to create the best possible experience for all our members. The Sporting Club
Fantastic experience: Fabulous facilities. The staff and members are all so nice.
Thank you, Anthony for such a great review. We agree we have very nice staff and members. It's a very welcoming environment at The Sporting Club -- we're glad you feel it too!
Fantastic experience: When I first toured the gym, I was blown away with how clean and organized everything was. Truly, I was a little skeptical of the price of the monthly dues, but after Adam gave me the run down on the details of the amenities: the cafe, the group fitness classes, pool, etc., I signed up almost immediately. Adam made it a very smooth and easy process for me to sign up from home, and I am set to start tomorrow! Im so excited to see what this place can offer me and continue to advance in my fitness journey.
Thanks for this great review, Sara! We're happy to read that you were impressed with the tour, had such a great experience with Adam, and that you noticed our cleanliness and organization. We take pride in all of those things. We hope you are enjoying your membership and all the fantastic amenities it provides access to. Onward and upward!
Fantastic experience: The gym is great but the trainers are what make it even better. I’ve been working out with Antowine since they reopened in November and it’s been well worth the time and extra money. Before working out with Antowine, I was finding it hard to meet my goals. I highly recommend!
Thanks, Amanda for the shout out. We do have amazing facilities and offerings, but it's the people that are the special sauce! We're so glad that Antowine is getting you where you want to be!
Positive experience: Wishing it was 24/7. Wish it has free parking for members
Negative experience: This “gym” is a total joke. They claim to have classes but they are always booked out. They have no policy for people who reserve class spots and don’t show up so you are totally out of luck if you aren’t up at 12:01 one week prior to a class you want to take to reserve a spot. Even thought the facilities look nice, it’s no better than any cookie cutter gym membership. Don’t get lured in by their palates, hot yoga or early morning classes since you will never get in. Then, to top it off, they charge you to put your membership on hold. This place is the gym equivalent of a timeshare vacation scheme.
Hello, Thank you for your additional feedback on some of the topics we've discussed thus far. To ensure we are addressing your concerns, please let us know when you may be available to come into the Club and discuss everything fully in-person. Thank you; we look forward to getting everything resolved! To Your Health & Progress,
Negative experience: This would be a great gym if you could get into the fun classes and special events. You have to sign up a week in advance and the good classes book up almost as soon as they are publicized. It’s also very posh and somewhat uncomfortable for those of us just looking to throw on some sweats and get a workout out in.
Hello Alysia, Thank you for taking the time to provide this feedback. In recent weeks, we have implemented several measures to increase class offerings, make spots more readily available for registration, and, ultimately, open classes and events to the greatest number of members possible. Additionally, we will continue to collect feedback, evaluate class/activity demand, and make improvements to policies and procedures in order to optimize our offerings for all members. Please stay in touch with us so we can make continual improvements in all aspects of the Club. To your health and progress, The Sporting Club at The Bellevue
Fantastic experience: I joined a month ago and I could not be happier , place is spotless , classes galore , flexible hours , staff is super nice and friendly and all new top line equipment. I wish I would have joined sooner - place is awesome !
Hi Tom, Thanks so much for this wonderful review. We're delighted to hear you are enjoying the club!
Fantastic experience: Love the new gym, there are some kinks that are being worked out of course but much nicer after the renovation (was a former member before they closed for reno) The group fitness instructors for Pilates and barre (shout out to Monica, Danielle, Megan, Amandah, Annalise) are top tier and create such a wonderful community.
Hi Oishee, First of all, welcome back! We love our group fitness instructors and are delighted you do too. We're happy to hear you that are enjoying your experience here and promise to always work on improving!
Fantastic experience: Since the reopening of the gym in November, I've become a dedicated participant in the Pilates program. I'm incredibly grateful for the outstanding instructors who have consistently demonstrated dedication and expertise in welcoming newcomers and guiding regulars toward improvement. A special shout-out goes to Amandah, Monica, Megan, and Daniela for their tireless efforts in ensuring each session is not only safe but also incredibly effective. While each teacher's style differs, being able to learn from them has certainly added depth to my practice. Thanks to their commitment, I've experienced a noticeable reduction in aches and pains, significant improvements in both strength and flexibility, and a genuine anticipation for each visit to the club to catch up with friends. This program truly stands out for its excellence. As I celebrated my first International Pilates Day yesterday, I felt compelled to express my heartfelt gratitude publicly. Thank you to Pilates (and Contrology) @ Sporting Club Bellevue for introducing me to a transformative practice.
Hi Noah, This is a wonderful review to read. It's testimonials like this that drive us to excellence. Thank you for the shoutouts to our instructors. We hired the best and are grateful that they have formed such a strong community. We love reading about your results (both physical and social.) We appreciate you!
Positive experience: I joined the Sporting Club a few months ago and I love it! The facilities are top notch and the amenities are a huge plus. I work remotely a few days a week, and the several lounge areas are perfect for me to utilize during the work day. My only (slight) gripe is with the group fitness classes. While the classes are great and a challenging workout, many of them (Pilates, Hot Power Yoga, etc.) are really hard to get into since there is such high demand. There have also been a couple times when a class was cancelled last minute since the instructor couldn't make it and there was no sub available. I understand that emergencies come up, but we should at least be notified of any issues before showing up in person to take the class. I think if the club simply hired more coaches/offered more times for certain classes (which I understand they are working on) then that would help remedy both problems. Other than that, the gym is great and I highly recommend everyone to check it out!
Hello Niki, We greatly appreciate your willingness to share your feedback. With regards to Group Fitness offerings, we have been working hard behind the scenes to make classes available to more members and refine staff policies and procedures to minimize disruptions to scheduled classes. We are happy to hear that you have enjoyed many things about the Club and we look forward to making continual progress moving forward. To Your Health & Progress, The Sporting Club at The Bellevue
Negative experience: You can never get into classes. They give up your spot if you are not early even though it’s not policy. Classes aren’t leveled so you take classes with beginners and don’t get a good work out. Other members have a secret in to get into classes.
Hello Cindy, Thank you for taking the time to provide this feedback, we are sorry to hear about the issues you experienced regarding our Group Fitness offerings. To address some of your concerns, we have outlined a few points below: -Within the last 4 months, we have more than doubled our staffing in some of our most popular Group Fitness offerings and have added some level-based classes to create a distinction between Beginner Level and Open Level classes -Within the last 4 months, we have added additional Club policies to ensure the greatest number of our members can enjoy classes; these measures have allowed us to increase popular class accessibility by more than 30% Additional improvements are in the works which will continue to increase accessibility -We are continually monitoring Club data to ensure class offerings match the demand that we're seeing from members; within the city of Philadelphia, we offer the greatest number of classes by a significant margin and we are always open to adding more to keep up with member demand -With these measures, we have been able to increase class accessibility for members interested in Group Fitness offerings; the feedback regarding difficulty getting into classes often stems from the period prior to when we made these changes so that reputation (although it is no longer the case for many of our classes) is one that we are continually working to set the record straight on -For the Pilates-minded members, we also offer many Pilates Mat & Mat Barre classes throughout the week that many of our members enjoy in addition to Reformer classes In Health, Sporting Club Management
Fantastic experience: Joined in January and it has been a great experience!
Thanks, Ryan for taking the time to write a review! We're pleased to hear you are enjoying our new club.
Negative experience: Essentially non existent pickleball program. Tiny 4 person jacuzzi is usually covered with 5inches of foamy scum (Legionnaires disease here we come). See photo below.
Cross Bow, Please be advised that our jacuzzi is cleaned daily with PA health department sanitation procedures. Regarding the pickleball program that we provide, it includes 3 indoor standard pickleball courts. We provide complimentary pickleball clinics for beginners, intermediate, and advanced players. These programs are inclusive in your membership. We appreciate your feedback regarding your membership at The Sporting Club. Please identify your name that you have on your membership agreement. We will contact you to set up a time to speak to you in person and give you any other details you want. Thank you for being a member. Regards, The Sporting Club
Fantastic experience: Love everything the facility have to offer! Thanks for assisting me in Joining, Alex
Hi Tac- We love that you are happy! Welcome to the club!
Fantastic experience: Amazing amenities
Thanks, Hector, for your positive review! We couldn't agree more! We have a cold plunge, hot tub and sauna, as well as luxurious locker rooms!
Fantastic experience: As a returning member, I was thrilled to see the stunning renovations at Sporting Club at the Bellevue. The updates have truly elevated the club's atmosphere and amenities to a new level of luxury and comfort. The new equipment in the fitness center is top-notch, and the expanded group fitness schedule offers a variety of classes to suit every interest and fitness level. The pool area is now even more inviting, with comfortable loungers and attentive poolside service. The attention to detail in the renovations is evident everywhere, from the modern locker rooms to the beautifully appointed relaxation areas. The staff continues to impress with their professionalism and commitment to providing a welcoming environment for all members. I highly recommend Sporting Club at the Bellevue to anyone looking for a premier fitness and wellness experience in Philadelphia. The renovations have truly transformed this club into a must-visit destination.
Thanks for coming back, Rebecca! We're so happy that you are enjoying the enhancements we made to the club. We are proud of out 180 group fitness classes, our 143 pieces of state-of-the-art TechnoGym equipment, and our stunning pool, hot tub and cold plunge. And thanks for commenting on our staff-- they really are our secret sauce!
Negative experience: Beautiful place. But all the Pilate reformer group classes are booked. They will within one minute of being open. Impossible to get into. They need to offer more so that everyone can actually use the classes that we are paying for. Feeling a bit duped. And they know about the problem and have not a) hired more staff to teach b) created a system that limited the frequency of attending the classes so that everyone can take a turn. The place is over crowed. So while the place has a lot to offer good luck ever using anything.
Hi Alex, Thank you for being a member of The Sporting Club and for complimenting our newly renovated facility. We certainly understand the concern about the Pilates Reformer classes. We offer over 35 Pilates Reformer classes a week every day of the week in various hours. This is one of the most popular classes we have. Although we are very pleased that our classes are in high demand, we are aware of the members’ eagerness to participate and diligently working on improving our valuable members’ experience. Along with Pilates Reformer, we also offer Pilates Mat classes. We appreciate your feedback and welcome you to email us at [email protected] if you have any additional questions or concerns regarding our group classes. Best, The Sporting Club
Negative experience: I read the google reviews before touring the new Sporting Club and had hoped for better. Weak weekend hours and frankly extremely overpriced for the lack of communication, poor management, and unhappy employees. Equipment room is nice but small considering the size of the rest of the gym. Unimpressed overall and think it will lose a lot of clients once the new Equinox opens later this year.
Fantastic experience: I have been a member of the Sporting Club for over 20yrs, I am very excited to be back. I feel like I grew up in this place. The changes are amazing, a great atmosphere and social vibe. This place has been a staple in my life through good and bad, this has been a place of consistency and peace. The relationship built have lasted forever, very grateful for that. With that being said, WELCOME BACK SPORTING CLUB AT THE BELLUEVE ! Feels good to be HOME !
Santino, We very much appreciate that you have been a dedicated member of The Sporting Club for many years. Your kind words regarding our opening mean a lot to us. We are happy to hear that The Sporting Club has provided enjoyment for you and a place of consistency and peace. We welcome you back, so please stop by the desk and ask for the General Manager so we can say hi in person. Thank you again, The Sporting Club
Fantastic experience: If I could give more than 5 stars I would! Joining was probably my best decision of 2023 and I cannot wait to continue in 2024! The facilities are impeccable, everyone is so nice and friendly, and the location is so convenient for me. The locker rooms and showers are always so clean, the staff is so attentive and kind, and I am always able to book the classes I want or reserve a squash court. They also had a holiday Happy Hour that was absolutely amazing, and I hope they will do more events like this. This is by far the nicest gym I’ve ever seen and I cannot say enough nice things about this place. I can only speak from my personal experience, however I think the facilities are very nice and I have had only the best interactions with staff members.
Hi Maria, Thanks for your positive words and feedback. Your kind words about our cleanliness are much appreciated as our staff works so hard to keep everything looking great. We loved the holiday event as well and love bringing our members together. We see a lot of friendships happening here and we love that! See you around!
Negative experience: Not a buttoned up operation. The low google reviews make sense and for what The Sporting Club is charging members this is totally unacceptable. First off let me mention the Front Desk staff and the manager I've been speaking with have been wonderful and very professional. Gym opened Nov 1st and called it a soft opening and boy did they mean it. Was told by Sales that everything would be functional Jan 1st. It is now Jan 10th and still various parts of gym not ready. The men's sauna is still not operational and I certainly understand things break but what is completely unacceptable is the lack of communication and the inability of the owner to provide a time frame when this will be resolved. This isn't planet fitness where I'm paying $10 a month , members are paying a lot of money for this gym but it currently run very poorly, get your acts together. It is astounding to me that takes 2+ months to fix a sauna.
TO, We certainly understand the concern about the men's sauna. We are fully aware of the inconsistency and are doing everything possible to repair it permanently (we have been at the mercy of long delays of needed control components). As of this writing, we anticipate that the sauna will be operating next week. At your convenience, please ask to speak with the Director of Operations when you attend the club next. If you wish to disclose your full name (TO), please email to [email protected] Thank you for being a supportive member and we sincerely appreciate your feedback. The Sporting Club
Fantastic experience: The equipment and classes are fantastic!
Dear Sheila, Thanks so much for taking the time to write a review. We're so glad you are enjoying our club. We love and are proud of our equipment -- we have 143 cardio and strength machines by Technogym on our 10,000 square foot fitness floor. We are also proud of our group fitness classes-- we offer 165 classes per week in eight dedicated studios. See you again soon! In health, The Sporting Club at The Bellevue Management Team
Positive experience: My partner and I decided to join at the end of November based on representations that everything was up and running except for the pool area. Sadly, this was false. For example, the sauna in the men's locker room has not been functioning since we joined and we just recently learned that the steam room is also going to be out of order. The renovation is great, but it is disappointing that promised amenities have not been available. When we complained to management about the lack of promised amenities, it was extremely difficult to get anyone to respond. When we finally did hear back, it was via a phone call from Fran Cassidy the General Manager. Mr. Cassidy was incredibly rude, unprofessional, and dismissive of our concerns. If you are considering signing up, be aware that several amenities remain out of order and that management is generally dismissive of customer complaints.
Dear Jack, Thank you for taking the time to provide your feedback. It’s important for us to gather member feedback so that we can improve. Unfortunately, we have had some mechanical issues with the men’s sauna that were unforeseen. The men’s steam room is about to undergo some repairs as well, but that will be for just four days. We’re sorry that you felt unheard and that your comments were dismissed. Please know we take all feedback seriously and that many of the items you have addressed are being actively worked on. Overall, our club is brand new and functioning beautifully. In health, The Sporting Club Management
Negative experience: I went to tour the Sporting Club and decided not to sign up for a couple of reasons. The facility was beautiful, but after speaking with a few members and staff, the facility may have a lot of work to do. Some of the workers were hired as full time, but weren't given enough hours to support that. After speaking with current members, they had a few notable nuances such as classes being full at all times, weekend hours not early enough, and gym equipment not up to par. I can't support a business that doesn't ensure the care of their own employees first, let alone the wants of their customers.
Hi Brittny, We appreciate your feedback and your comments. The Sporting Club facility is of high quality. Thank you for your comment stating that the facility is beautiful. As is standard in construction, there are items that need additional work. Our dedicated construction staff address these issues 7 days a week. We are proud to offer over 165 classes per week. Our members give daily feedback on issues that they experience, and we work hard to address member concerns. The information regarding our employees is incorrect. Our employees enjoy a positive work environment with daily support and communication by our experienced management staff. Our operating hours, including weekends, are extensive. In addition, we are open 363 days per year. Sincerely, The Sporting Club
Negative experience: I toured the facility and had some concerns regarding the Sporting Club that were seemingly not able to be answered. The women's locker room was 1/3 the size of men's, the pool was still unfinished (yet full dues were to be charged), and some of my friends that go here stated most classes fill up too quickly. It's an esthetically pleasing facility, but not worth the price.
Fantastic experience: As a former member of the Sporting Cluv, I had high expectations for their renovation. I'm happy to report they have not only met, but exceeded my expectations. The space is beautiful and well designed. I'm able to take short breaks and catch up on my emails and phone calls between my work out. The equipment is by far the best I've ever experienced and the facilities are clean and top notch. Can't wait to watch the full reopening including the pool. Keep up the great work.
We are so glad to be back and delighted to have you back, Dev! It is so wonderful to hear that we have exceeded your expectations. We're just getting (re)started; there are many great things to come!
Fantastic experience: Best fitness club in the Philadelphia, hands down. The value for the cost of membership which includes luxury amenities, boutique- style fitness classes, and a state-of-the-art fitness floor, is unparalleled; not to mention the many other extras. Alex and her team have made the rejoining process seamless. The seasoned and helpful staff and a gorgeous, updated facility made it a no brainer to rejoin. It’s truly top tier. Glad to be back!
Thank you for being a loyal member, Tom! We are so glad to have you back. We appreciate your kind words and praise. (And, we agree, Alex and the membership team are best in class!)
Negative experience: Was considering making the switch to this gym, however I am unimpressed. I am confused on the weekend hours, and wish they had more flexibility. I also was disappointed by the facility as it seemed equipment was missing and overall not on par with other luxury facilities.
Negative experience: Feedback Not Considered I walked in as a new member when the club first re-opened in November. Before I signed up, I noted their weekend hours were a little later for my schedule, but I was told there were plans to reevaluate weekend hours at the beginning of January. I checked in to revisit this issue at the end of the free trial that I was offered to see if anything had changed, because I (like any normal person) require a notice and heads up if I decided to switch back to my old gym. After being ignored three separate times attempting to contact the person who signed me up (2 emails and one note from her coworker), I went to speak to someone in person. I was told by a more senior position that there were in fact never any plans to reevaluate earlier weekend hours, because that's "how it's always been." The tone with which I was spoken to was like that of a child who was annoying their mom for extra candy - they treated me as a nuisance when I was simply attempting to get answers to very valid, easy questions and concerns. I don't think it's too much to ask for someone to treat you with respect, especially when you pay nearly 200$/month for the services. Just my hot take on the situation, though. In a last ditch effort to see if things could be salvaged, I met with the top manager, Fran, this morning. I attempted to show him this google review that I had not yet posted, to which he declined reading. We instead had a conversation where I voiced my concerns, asking if he could send out a feedback forum to current patrons. His response was "don't tell me how to run my business." It was after this interaction that I solidified my decision to end my membership. Since I'm already here, I may as well add all of my thoughts. The gym is lacking many pieces of equipment - a sentiment that employees have told me is shared by many of the members, not just myself. Random dumbbell weights missing, no long head rope for cable machines, no 5lb stack for cables, and much more. This place is marketed as a high end fitness club. It's more of a social club in my opinion. There are more places to sit than room on the fitness floor. In the mornings, machines still have weights on them that were never re-racked the previous day. One other thing to note is that the pool still hasn't been opened as of Dec 3. I am very disappointed with my experience at the Sporting Club so far. There is a lot of potential here for improvement, but my experience has been that no one is willing to consider feedback from patrons. I'm not sure what the point of having a soft opening with a free trial is if you're not going to accept constructive criticism.
Hi Gab, Thanks for taking your time to provide feedback. According to our internal documentation, your interactions with several of our team members are inaccurately represented in your review. It’s important to us to be responsive to the concerns of our members, as we’ve demonstrated to you, and we would welcome the opportunity to continue to explore satisfactory solutions to the matters you’ve raised. Please contact us at memberservice at sportingclubbellevue.com to continue the conversation. Sincerely, The Sporting Club
Fantastic experience: The best gym in the City, hands down! So glad they are back!
Thank you❤️ we are so glad to be back and have you with us!
Fantastic experience: The equipment they have invested in is BLOODY AMAZING! I look SOOOOOO forward to working out, it’s the best equipment I’ve used in all my life and I have gone to many gyms in a few countries. Truly amazing, I also love the lighting and the colors. It doesn’t matter what time I go, I can do my whole workout without any waiting on equipment or anything like that. Lockers are great and no locks necessary. I’m still learning all the new things they have going on. The staff are very friendly, unlike City Fitness where they are rather mean and I am so happy they finally reopened.
We're delighted you love the equipment, we put a lot of thought into it. Thanks for the glowing review. We really appreciate it!
Fantastic experience: Great place
Thank you!
Fantastic experience: So far, the “soft” opening has been quite impressive and the facilities are excellent. The coaches are very friendly and effective. Definitely happy with my membership!
Thank you, Dustin!! That's wonderful to hear. We're so glad to be back and happy to have you as a member.
Negative experience: I used to go there on a day pass on many of my frequent visits to Philadelphia. I've just been told that when they reopen, day passes will not be available. The economic logic behind this decision eludes me (which is a polite way of saying: it makes no economic sense whatsoever, as a child of seven would be able to see clearly), and in any case it's quite a disappointment.
Negative experience: unfortunately I went against my better judgement and joined probably in 2018-2019ish. I only went for the suana/steam room do to a car accident i was in 2018. at 125$ month and still paying for parking, along with very unsanitary conditions I did what I had to do for myself using those 2 things. however that’s neither here nor there. my REAL ISSUE was when covid approached when not only was I charged for a WHOLE MONTH ON 2 DIFF occasions ( 1 time where the gym was closed the whole month and the other when it was closed a week or 2 into the month) and than the gym “temporarily closed” for a few MONTHS within a few days of that month. When I asked to be refunded 3 different times in person( women membership manager poss “ alex”) I was told “ we don’t do refunds here, we’ll credit you a month when we reopen in January” ( bc at that time that was when they were supposed to reopen. so not only did they take my 125$ and not refund it they were just Holding it until they POSS reopened.) After beating a dead horse and believing they would do the right thing , they never reopened so I was beat for 125$( whole month ) and another 125$ ( maybe 2 weeks of that month it was opened). sent several emails since asking for the refund or some type of correspondence and absolutely NO REPLY. now years later as their about to reopen, still no reply’s to any emails concerning my money or months paid for that I wasn’t able to use. actually really classless & unacceptable behavior along with robbing my $
Hello, We would like to look into this situation as we are not familiar with it. Please email us at: join at sportingclubbellevue dot com. Thank you,
Fantastic experience: I have been a member for many years and I love this club. It is very user-friendly -- staff are incredibly pleasant and go out of their way to be helpful. I only use the pool, but it is the only pool I know in the Phila. area that is Olympic size and kept at the proper temperature: other pools I've swum at are usually heated to about 86-90 degrees for arthritis patients -- but this is a lap-swimmer's pool. Sauna-whirlpool-steambath area is luxurious. Showers are fine, and lounge is great. I come about three-four times a week so this club is well worth the money for me -- my escape from the real world of work and worry. Plus you can suspend your membership and payment if you're going to be traveling for a month or two or three.
Fantastic experience: I have only been here for daily classes from time to time, but always impressed by the staff and atmosphere
Fantastic experience: Front desk of the sporting club all garages all require a sporting club stamp on the parking ticking to receive the appropriate discount enjoy frozen thirst quenching beverages from the juice bar along with a variety of health conscious foods women locker room are equipped with stand up tanning booths contact the hospitality desk for of well being yoga mediation classes are offered that help to balance your body clear your mind and set you're up for the rest of the day
Fantastic experience: I enjoy the personal trainer part! It's really nice to have someone dealing with you specifically!
Fantastic experience: I too have been a member for many years. The "new " manager has been associated with the club since its inception. He's competent, energetic and enthusiastic about making the club truly great. If you think management is important and have been turned off in the past bc of lame managers COME BACK! YOU'LL be pleasantly surprised. This is the only world class fitness establishment in philly.
Fantastic experience: Sauna and Swimming!
Negative experience: So I became a member four months ago with my new job. Awful facility. Today was the last straw. Tried the food for the first time. The guy running the food stand and it was covered in mold. Disgusting. Go to lifetime instead. It’s cheaper too
Fantastic experience: The best.
Negative experience: The Hyatt Bellvue is a gross (and grossly overpriced) gym. Parking is $9 per 3 hour session. The showers have a slime on the floor which protrudes into your shoes and some showers are broken. Don't get me started on the hot tub! Spend your money somewhere else, this place sucks.
Curt, thank you for posting your feedback. As a follow up to the phone call you had this morning with one of our representatives, we recognize that you are upset with our cancellation policy requiring 30 days notice. We understand this is policy is important which is why we communicate it in writing both at the time of joining and when submitting a membership freeze request . As discussed, you have full use of the club within the 30-day period. If you have any further questions or would like to again review the written policies, please do not hesitate to contact us.
Fantastic experience: Great swimming pool and indoor track. I never have to wait for a machine, and the place is always very clean.
Fantastic experience: Nicole Caccavo is hands down one of the best personal trainers and fitness experts in the city. Not only are her personal training sessions challenging, motivating, and thoughtful but her client-centered approach is warm and uplifting. Nicole's fitness classes are also amazing! I'm so glad she recently began teaching spin classes - even though her classes are tough, her constant praise, humor, and music playlist keep you going! She's the best!
Fantastic experience: $3 shoeshine. Best in town.
Fantastic experience: Loved it
Negative experience: Won't discuss pricing over the phone. The only way to get membership cost is to show up for a tour or provide your email so you get flooded with promotional emails. Really deceptive. I'm not interested in pressure tactics. Lost a potential client.
Negative experience: This has to be the worst membership experience to date. When I was ready to start working out again after a year of cancer treatment and I decided to joined the gym at the Bellevue. A month later I broke my wrist. I called to freeze my membership and they said that I would need to send an email, but they weren't sure if they had the right address and to call back and check during the week. ... It bounced and long story short they wouldn't honor the freeze because I deleted the bounced email and I could not "prove it". Pretty hard to type an email left handed the week you break your wrist, let alone resend, recall and then loose 2 months of membership, plus pay the fees.... yikes! Ironically, it's customer appreciation week.
Negative experience: came in for a trial, membership services was busy, asked front desk to give me a tour while one person in members service was helping another member, refused and asked to wait. My time is also valuable and bad customer service is unacceptable at any decent gym. I left, they lost a good potential client.
Negative experience: The boxing class program is a failure. Paid $400 for 3 month class session. Executive membership costs $180 per month. My locker was next to Seth Williams’s locker.
Positive experience: I was there for a promotion $99 sign-up fee. They had some decent classes and there is a lot of space but I thought that there there wasn’t a lot of people there. I thought that it was kind of a sling in at times. Parking is always difficult so I always had to pay for parking when I was there. It was an OK Gym but for $100 month I thought that there could’ve been more classes.
Fantastic experience: Hands down the best gym in philly everything is 5 star from staff to members to equipment if you got a problem with this place maybe you should look in a mirror it might be you
Negative experience: I had a real terrible experience with the management here. I recommend Philadelphia sports club instead.
Negative experience: If you are looking for a 'spa' experience, look elsewhere. I'm sure their massages are great, but waiting in stiff chairs next to the highly chlorinated lap pool, was not a spa - it is a gym offering sports massages. Charged for the massage not taken.
Fantastic experience: The best gym in Philadelphia...and maybe anywhere!!!
Fantastic experience: Hands down the best gym in the city. It really is a club so it's not just a gym. much more expensive than other membership but if you plan to work out, this place supports a workout lifestyle.
Fantastic experience: Great environment!
Fantastic experience: Best gym in Philly. Huge and top line equipment
Fantastic experience: Best gym in Philly. Huge and top line equipment
Fantastic experience: Great environment!
Negative experience: glorified planet fitness, if you deadlift more than 2 plates expect to be told to stop, even using the bumper plates and the platform.(why have bumper plates if you cant use them?) I've witnessed it on many occasions. For $110 a month and a $195 initiation fee i should be allowed to fling feces at the overweight trainers who are incorrectly teaching people incorrectly how to squat. Save your money and go somewhere cheaper. The smoothie bar they have is pretty good though, i recommend getting the java oat.
Negative experience: The club has significantly deteriorated over the past several years. It is dirty, poorly kept and has become more of a commercial space then a gym. It has gone from a luxury urban fitness center to a typical suburban box gym. It has lost its edge and the reasons it was worth the extra money.
