Dow Bay Area Family YMCA

Positive experience: We used our reciprocal Y membership here. I came with my toddler and was disappointed that the childcare was closed (despite being during listed open hours) and the pool was so cold he wouldn’t swim for more than five minutes. This was also not communicated online, just a sign in the lobby that said “the pool is cold right now”. If we had known there wasn’t childcare for me to workout and there wasn’t a usable pool for us to swim together, we would have sought out a different activity for the morning.

Fantastic experience: I love that there's a variety of ways that we can move our bodies at the Y! Many people who attend the Y are team players and I haven't run into really any issues with other gym-goers. My kids enjoy the Kidzone and have loved the sports camps that were really cost-effective! I appreciate the kindness and courtesy of the staff as well.

Positive experience: They really just let anyone in here ... People miss use the equipment and wander around just staring at others... Makes everyone uncomfortable. They let old men into the pool area and just let them sit and stare at children.. thinking about going to an ACTUAL gym.

Negative experience: Beautiful facility, but the Zumba classes and culture are abhorrent.

Positive experience: It’s a nice place, the front desk is very helpful and the staff is also very friendly. However, my child has been taking swim lessons here for a month now, and I have noticed the lifeguards like to enforce certain rules for certain people. If lifeguards are the ones to enforce rules then they need to apply to everyone. Not just certain people/groups.

Fantastic experience: I enjoy the 24/7 room it's is kept clean and equipment is kept safe. The staff is welcoming when you walk in and walk out. I enjoy my time when I'm there.

Fantastic experience: The staff is friendly and knowledgeable. The variety of group exercise classes is top notch, and I love the options for weights and machines in the 2 gym areas.

Negative experience: Me and my friends where kick out because some women was being Racist to us and said we had called her a fat b word and where calling us the hard r and when she told the staff the staff did not do nothing but took her side because she was a member and prob because we where black teenagers and when we tried to tell are side they did not let us talk at all then we ask if they can check cameras I guess they don’t work then when the lady was taking photos of us kids walking out she called us the hard r and the staff said they can’t do nothing cus they did not hear it but when the lady lied and said we called her a b word they did not hear it. Also the manager dose not do nothing or the ceo they just told us because she’s a member they got to work with her rather then us first smh sad how this world became

Fantastic experience: Everything is always taken care of. Staff is always friendly. Equipment is taken care of. If something does not work it is fixed quickly. Best part is I like to get a workout in and get it done. They have so much equipment that you can always get a good workout in. Shock the muscles. Always clean and not in disarray. Very impressive classes and pool area as well as dry and wet sauna.

Fantastic experience: The Y is a wonderful place to workout. The staff is very friendly and helpful. There are a wide range of exercise equipment to help you get the best workout for you. I also have found that the members of the Y are very friendly and helpful and will take the time to help you and explain how the different equipment works. I love it.

Fantastic experience: Friendly staff. Wide variety of classes and equipment provided for all ability levels. Nicely appointed AND Clean locker rooms. Great place to take the family on the weekend for family fun time.

Fantastic experience: We love this place, our girls both learned to swim here and we love to go upstairs and walk the track and also utilize the childcare provided it is clean and a great environment!

Fantastic experience: Many years ago there used to be a different YMCA over on Madison across from Rally's. I'm glad to see that there is still a YMCA in Bay City with a slightly better facility and upgrades. I don't live in Bay City but if I did this would be my gym.

Clean, well kept equipment, friendly and helpful staff; many options for activities, family friendly, kid zone, water slide and splash park indoor, sauna, steam room, showers, basketball courts, racket ball courts, 24 hour area… everything! 10/10 recommend.

Positive experience: Nice facility. Is very clean and the staff are very nice. My only complaint is I wish they stayed open later on the weekends. That is when I have more time to get there.

Positive experience: I like being a 24/7 member. It gives me the flexibility to workout whenever I want. The pool area is quite nice during facility hours.

Fantastic experience: The pool area is a great place to exercise and having a seperate pool for the kids to play in makes it fun for everyone. They have classes in the pool to engage the older folks in exercise therapy. The goal being healthy independence. The staff goes above and beyond for the community. I'm grateful for my Bay area YMCA. THANKS Y'ALL. Flipper. "Swims better than walks" BTW. I'm disabled. I have had only one issue. There is one handicapped shower and one handicapped toilet in the men's locker room. I've not been able to use them and discovered able-bodied people leaving both.

Fantastic experience: The YMCA is a great facility. It has great equipment. The workers are friendly. The customers are great. Very pricey though. You get what you pay for!!!!

Fantastic experience: They have everything you need to stay in shape. They even have a day care. The pool is great. Looking forward to the new park addition being built next to the facility.

Positive experience: I love swimming at the Y and go on a regular basis. The best part is being able to reserve a lane so I can be guaranteed time and space for my workout.

Fantastic experience: An excellent gym for everyone. From hard working gym grunts, to ball players, to families, this place has something for everyone. I really enjoy my time here and the staff is very friendly. The comparison is night and day compared to planet fitness. I can’t believe I wasted so much time at PF. I highly, HIGHLY recommended dumping planet fitness and joining an actual gym. Best decision I’ve ever made. Best of luck!

Negative experience: The weight room is poorly maintained at best, and even after repeated complaints employees refused to enforce the covid mask policies at all, to the point there were two unmasked men conversing right in front of the front desk. Then when you go to cancel they require you to fill out a paper form that could easily be done electronically, where they try to get you to stay every which way they can. If i wanted to deal with this kind of song and dance id have gone to one of the chain gyms. It's a shame this place is like this, as ive watched this place deteriorate since it was built, both managerially and physically.

Fantastic experience: We try to get to the Y atleast 3-4 times a week and we enjoy having our family time here. Working out, swimming, walk/run on indoor track. We especially love the training options. Our son, Mason, loves sports training with WJ.

Negative experience: If I could give this 0 stars I would. My sister in law threw a birthday party for my nephews this weekend. The life guards and pool staff and management were absolutely horrible. Screaming at everyone for very minor things including my autistic nephew who walks on tiptoes which they consider running instead of having a human conversation with us so we could explain the fact that he is autistic and that is how he walks and his normal Manurisms. No then instead were going to then make him sit out of the pool on his birthday.i was not swearing at them I was told to back up like I was going to fight them with a baby in my arms . I then informed them I was not going to do so and that when they have a party and do not have work things like the water features, and slides they should offer a discount. It was an absolutely horrible experience Gavin and Abby were on complete Power trips and are in need of some massive training in how to deal with people. However I really can't say enough wonderful things about the front desk staff who were very helpful in the matter and know how to have a decent conversation.

Positive experience: Seems like the slide is always closed and the kids area spray park can never be turned on for some reason.
