Negative experience: Was getting billed for months after cancelling my membership and was threatened with legal action. I cancelled my membership on May 9, 2024. I was getting billed 2 months after that, so I blocked payment with my credit card. I called them in September, I was told it would be taken care of, but it wasn't. I kept getting billing email even until Oct 27, when I was threatened with legal action. To prevent any trouble, I paid it, but want to let others know this can happen if you join this gym and decide to terminate the membership.
I looked for your member profile and found nothing. I pride myself on operating an honest/ethical gym. Please call me (William - GM) at 512.479.0044 so that I can look into this situation for you.
Fantastic experience: Member since 2019 - live nearby and go regularly. Management changes that happened this year (2024) took my rating from a 1-star to a 5-star; so much better. Only complaint is still the crowdedness, with the lack of downtown gyms. Must go at very odd hours (2pm, 9pm) to use any equipment I actually want, or spend an extra hour standing around waiting.

Negative experience: I was minding my own business practicing my bodybuilding posing routine in the mirror off to the side when the gm approached me and told Me I couldn’t have my shirt off in the gym… they literally have pictures of guys with their shirts off on the walls. And the women there (not that I care) were in basically booty shorts and a sports bra and that’s ok… they also said they have a no recording policy so I wasn’t aloud to record my routine to watch it back or record any of my lifts to send to my coach. Needles to say I won’t be back… they should rename their gym planet fitness. Ironic for a gym that was made famous by bodybuilders to be so anti bodybuilding. I totally didn’t take this picture I uploaded from their wall by the drinking fountain with guys shirt off while training.

Fantastic experience: I've been attending Michael's BodyPump class at Gold's Gym in downtown Austin Saturday mornings at 9am. Michael is an exceptional instructor who truly knows how to keep the energy up and the motivation high, even when the workout gets tough. He consistently challenges us while ensuring that everyone, regardless of fitness level, feels included and supported. His attention to form and technique has helped me improve significantly over time. If you're looking for a top-notch group fitness experience, come join us at Michael's BodyPump class. Negative experience: Was working out in the gold fit room place, and I went to grab a kettlebell and almost touched a dead roach. I later found a live one in the men's restroom, disgusting poor cleanliness at this gym and would not purchase snacks here, other than that the front desk staff was friendly.
Hey Jack - Sorry for what you experienced. In the 15 months I've been here as the GM I've seen 1 cockroach, that was in our breakroom. What you saw was more than likely a cricket. This time of year in Texas they jump in to the gym every chance they get. We clean them up regularly. Sorry this grossed you out.
Fantastic experience: Solid gym, good price…get to say hi to all the homeless on the way in. Sauna is hot AF which I love. Gets crowded but is pretty spacious. Could use a few more of the “popular” machines like pec fly or leg ext but all good. The real star of the show is Andrew at the front desk. Super nice and personable. If the world was full of Andrews it would be a better place!

Positive experience: I go to this gym nearly daily. Pros TLDR- Great gym at a reasonable rate. Great use of space the multi-level is well designed. Modern. Equipment is good and has everything you need to get a great workout. 3 squat racks, a dead lift(3) area, 2 Smith machines, plenty of free weight well past 100, t bar. All staff is friendly and greet and say goodbye every time. Clean and the lady/guy who cleans does great job. You can park on 6th until 7 and after except Thursday-Saturday. Security helps with sketchy people thanks for hiring them. One of the only golds that doesn't BLAST house music. Thank you 97% of people have head phones. People there keep to themselves. Cons 4-8 Monday-Thursday is super busy. Only 1 pek dek machine which is one of the most popular machines. They could easily move the curl machine to the area near the bench/ assisted row in front of the smith machine. Then push the assisted dip/pull up forward and there's space for another pek dek machine. That's really what this gym is lacking compared to the other golds.

Positive experience: The layout and location of this Gold’s are great but the amenities are lacking compared to locations in SA & other major cities. It has secure indoor bike parking, easy access to downtown locations/transit, and a friendly staff. From a downtown location however, it would be nice to have a steam room, adequate water pressure, consistent hot water, more complete shower amenities (it just had basic soap and other comparable gyms carry better quality shampoo, conditioner, hair styling products, razors, shaving cream, etc.) and have more thorough cleaning- the sauna is grimy from people wearing shoes into it but it seems to just get sanitized instead of scrubbed clean with soap and water. Good bones and nice staff but lacking investment.

Negative experience: I sent an email to cancel my membership that they ignored and then sent me to collections. I wouldn’t sign up for a place that doesn’t make it easy to cancel. It’s bad business

Negative experience: Men’s locker room smells SO BAD. My god, never smelled a restroom/lockeroom more foul. It smelled SOUR, my poor nostrils are still recovering. Have they heard of an air purifier? Perhaps Jesus? Not even he can help that HORRID smell, send help.

Fantastic experience: I’m pretty surprised that this gym has rough reviews. I don’t live in the area and I came in for a guest pass I was greeted by a jacked gentleman who was really respectful and nice. I have an extensive background in powerlifting and strength and conditioning and I am used to facilities that are very well equipped first off. This gym was perfect for what it is. It’s not cramped like some people say, it’s extremely well equipped and the layout makes a lot of sense for the amount of space the gym has. If you’re looking for something large like many gyms in Texas are, if you just look at it from the outside this obviously isn’t huge so some of these reviews don’t make a lot of sense. I like the aesthetics and the lighting of the whole place, the main basement area gives an old school golds gym vibe while being really clean. It could use maybe one more squat rack but the machines from what I saw were really well equipped they had plenty of dumbbells and barbells and plates. The bathroom was clean the sauna was nice. Everything was nice and exactly what I would be expecting from a golds gym. If you’re expecting a warehouse gym that’s HUGE with tons of space this isn’t it. This is a nice convenient gym that’s well equipped for people who are serious at lifting or just beginning. For what it’s worth I saw a personal trainer from the gym doing a pretty good job at training her client which you don’t see often at big corporations. Honestly I would go as far to say as some of these reviews just aren’t true and if by chance you DID have a bad experience here - coming from someone who’s been at top gyms all over the country and especially where I’m from in New York give this place another chance. I had a surprisingly GREAT workout. I met the general manager Mike he was super duper nice along with another gentleman. I really have no complaints only nice stuff to say.

Negative experience: 25$ plus tax for a small gym for a day pass is not worth it, especially when you don't feel welcome (short young blond guy who was rolling his eyes whenever I was talking to him) and that they can't even print you an invoice or send by email. Will take my business elsewhere.

Fantastic experience: Unsure how anyone can give this place a 1 star review unless they're extremely very bothered people. This place is great. Literally the nicest staff at any gym i've ever been to. The front desk people are incredible. Whoever is managing this place has done a great job of hiring really great people.

Negative experience: This gym has really gone downhill since they started new management. They didn't cancel my membership when they raised the rates when I contacted VIA email. They kept trying to collect more money every month after I communicated email and the phone call I received the girl seems like she never work in a secretary/office setting. I didn't sign up for a fake "premier gym" at the time, to just have my rates increased after I signed up with some sort of trap it seems now. MY WARM UP shouldn't be fighting the homeless every morning. You want me to pay more for the BLANDEST GYM IN AUSTIN TEXAS how unprofessional corporate greed. This gym has no community and no love. Best of luck. Lawyers keep calling about $156 for a gym I haven't been to in like 4 months and they keep calling other people in Austin. I wish the best for this homeless shelter of gym. RIP BUFALLO BILLARDS.

As the 'new management' for the past 8 months I have have hired a security detail, added a barbell room, and put in place cleaning protocols that have this place looking really really good. Negative experience: The worst location of em all folks. Cramped, smelly and with ZERO parking. No wonder they stopped charging extra for this location, it’s a garbage can mess

Fantastic experience: Located in downtown Austin, this is one of the best spots to workout at. Clean facility with a top notch General Manager and a great professional staff, that is warm and welcoming to the gym members. I would know as I am a former staff member of this Gold’s Gym (2022 & 2023 to early 2024), and could see the complete difference (that was so needed) in which the new team has brought to Gold’s Gym. The previous GM and staff, had no standards set, some front desk personnel would let certain members workout in the gym after operation hours, some trainers didn’t fulfill the workout plans that they promised their clients, some employees just showed up to get paid, screwed up the parking situation for both members and the Gold’s organization, and did little to nothing but complain, bicker and gossip about who was sleeping with who. The current GM (William aka Mike) and staff are leagues above what I saw back in 2022. The atmosphere and energy of Gold’s on 6th is inspirational and beautiful to see. The GM has banned disrespectful and ignorant former members that had no business being at the gym in the first place, as well as fired or let go of former staff members who were more of a liability than they were an asset to Gold’s Gym. As certain trash staff members left, a lot of the trashy clients followed right along with them (not surprising), and thank goodness. Whether you’re an Austinite, or a visitor looking for a great spot to do your workout at, this is the place. Gold's Gym 6th Street....Five stars! And highly recommended.

Fantastic experience: I’ve been going here for about three years now and the staff at the front desk is always friendly - great way to start the day. The gym itself is a different and cool layout with lots of varying machinery. Not the biggest Gold’s ever but they make the equipment they have with the space that there is. This gym also features an add-on for parking that’s $15ish and makes access so much easier than parking on the street. Thanks for all that y’all do!

Positive experience: Was informed the monthly membership was $40/mo with no hidden fees verbally when I signed up which is not true, there is an annual fee (even if you’re monthly) that’s more than your monthly due. GM called me after this review, he assured the team would be reminded about the topic to properly convey the contract details to new sign-ups.

Fantastic experience: Amazing experience. As a new resident of Austin, I was afraid of not finding a proper gym, but this gym has been great since I started. All equipment you need, affordable rates, doesn’t get crazy packed, and great staff, specially Jeff that shows kindness and willingness to help everytime. I truly recommend it to anybody, specially since is difficult to find a gym that doesn’t give you difficulties with their plans (policies) or equipment or anything in general.

Positive experience: There aren’t any water bottle refill stations, the paper towel dispensers in the men’s restroom are constantly empty or broken, and there’s just a trickle of water in the shower, but otherwise a good gym. Could use more squat racks tho.

Fantastic experience: 5 Stars for Andrew. This morning was the first time since he started I didn't see him and was worried he had moved on, luckily that wasn't the case. I have been coming to this location for about 2 years and prior to signing up had read some criticism on the layout and parking issues; neither are a concern for me personally. I did have some issues with this location, but after a change in management in 2023 things have turned around, the best change being Andrew. I use to show up just before the doors open at 5, and many times a crowd formed outside waiting until 5:10, 5:15, 5:30 for the doors to open, but that hasn't happened since Andrew started opening. I pay for towel service, and every three days or so I would be told they had none, or they were being washed. I haven't experienced that at all after the change in management. There use to be issues with the showers - broken handles, water only trickling out - and they would go days and days without being repaired. The last time there was a issue with the showers, Andrew was notified and the next morning all the shower heads were replaced. It only took a week or so for Andrew to greet me by name as soon as I walk through the door and when I leave. It is hard to be cheerful at 5 am, but Andrew is completely squared away.

Fantastic experience: During my visit to Omni Hotel Austin, I received an email stating their fitness center is under construction. This left me with wondering, how I was going to get to my other nationwide gym over 3 miles away? To my surprise, the Front Desk at the Omni Hotel let me know we had access to Gold's Gym down the street. Having never set foot in a Gold's Gym, I was pleasantly surprised by the energy and charisma, Andrew Wilson, had at the Front Desk, greeting people as they came and went. My first thought was man this dude loves his job and the people who come in. I came in 4 days last week and every time, Andrew, greeted me with high level service. Upon my second visit, Andrew, already knew my name. And by the last day, I wanted to call your gym, my new gym. Thank you again to Andrew for his exceptional service, his love for fitness and the clients at Gold's Gym - Austin. His service should be highlighted, recognized and if I may rewarded. Positive experience: This is a great location downtown! It’s a bit smaller than others, but makes up for it with a selection of newer and nice equipment. The parking is a bit of an issue if driving in. Here’s the breakdown as of this review: you can pay $15 for a monthly pass that lets you park in the garage attached for 2 hours, or find street parking. Street parking is free after 6pm on Mon/Tues only. Otherwise it’s about $2/hr iirc The garage is $2 every 20 min. So you’re better off finding street parking if you’re not wanting to get the pass The parking is in no way a deal breaker, but something to be mindful of. Other golds gyms/gyms I’ve been to have provided FREE validation parking for 1.5-2hrs, even in downtown areas, so it’s not the best either

When you buy the monthly parking with us for $15, in theory, could work out 30 times per month and be validated for 60 hours of parking. That works out to 25 cents per hour. Honestly not a bad deal. Negative experience: Of all the gyms, I don't like very few old and rusty machines. It should be the best since it is in the center but it is the opposite.

I've instructed our cleaning crew to not mop around the kettlebells so that it ceases to be a problem. Also, a reminder that freelance training is NOT allowed in Gold's Gym. Thanks!

Fantastic experience: I have had the pleasure of attending Ariana's yoga classes during my lunch hours for several weeks now, and I can confidently say that they have become the highlight of my week. . Her classes are a perfect balance of challenge and relaxation, allowing me to push my boundaries while still feeling centered and at peace. these lunch-hour sessions have become my weekly escape, a time when I can disconnect from the stresses of work and reconnect with myself. Ariana's class is more than just a yoga session; it's a sanctuary that allows me to reset and find balance in the midst of my busy schedule...Love you Ariana!

Negative experience: Payment system is antiquated. And they do not accept cash. If you have a foreign credit card or a card that requires a chip reader do not bother trying here. Uber out to anytime fitness instead.

Negative experience: Management could use improvement. The manager told me I couldn’t leave anything in a locker overnight because other people need them. Meanwhile you look around and there is 50 unoccupied lockers. The guy is new and going a little overboard in my opinion.
Thanks for your review Matthew. Using multiple Gold's Gym lockers for permanent, long-term storage of your belongings is not something that we allow. With thousands of members, and only a finite amount of lockers in the Men's Room, it should go without saying that lockers are for use while members are working out, or showering. Thank you for your understanding and compliance to this very reasonable rule. And to clarify, I am not new to Gold's Gym. I'm only new to this particular Gold's Gym.

Fantastic experience: Great gym with amazing staff! This has been my first attempt to get in shape after 10+ years of inactivity. I signed up for personal training with McKay Stewart and cannot recommend him enough. He took what was a daunting experience and turned it into something I now look forward to. He's highly knowledgeable, patient, accommodating and was able to work around pre-existing injuries masterfully. If you are considering personal training, do yourself a favor and speak to McKay.

Positive experience: I’ve been coming here for four years. Only big box in town with a decent sauna! Cheerful staff. You have to play the timing game due to lack of space. The transient population around the doors has increased over the years. Things like half clothed, sidewalk sleeping, and screaming at nothing on your walk into the gym is common. There doesn’t seem to be an objective protocol in place by staff for solving this issue. Leaving the solution up to people at the front desk, probably not getting paid enough to feel the agency to handle the situations that regularly occur. Overall, the issues are worth it. One can always dream of the perfect combination of equipment, space, security, convenience, and affordability.

Fantastic experience: McCay is a trainer with extreme focus and attentive to the needs of his clients. We trained for weeks, it was a fantastic shock to the body, activating muscle fibers that had not been used in a long time. He also implemented a nutrition plan to adhere to the workouts we were doing! I’ve played sports my entire life and I’m always in search of the most intense lifting and cardiovascular challenges, McCays workout routines were those of pro-athletes!!!

Fantastic experience: Great gym. But the best thing about this gym is one of the trainers, Mackay. I had been working out for a decade but had plateaued in my strength and size. I was getting bored of working out and wondering what the point was until I started working with him. He showed me how to gain size and get stronger by teaching me about nutrition, new exercises but also how to train differently to get results. I've gained 5lbs in 2 months working with him (and if I had followed his nutrition advice more closely it definitely would have been more) and I was only 135lbs to begin with. If you are a skinny guy in Austin looking to get to the next level than Mackay is your guy.

Fantastic experience: This gym is good especially for its price. It’s got everything you need to get a good workout in and the staff are great. The personal training staff is also great. I’ve been lifting for a few years and have reached a point where I plateau often in the more traditional lifts but after a few workouts with McKay, one the trainers, I’ve PRd multiple times and have been able to make my workouts more fun and beneficial.

Fantastic experience: Good, convenient gym if you're a downtown Austinite. Great personal training staff - I train under McKay Stewart and he is very knowledgeable about both exercise and diet. He does a great job of personalizing workouts to goals (fat loss, muscle building, etc.) and does a great job motivating me during the workout. He also has great boxing/striking experience which he is able to incorporate into workouts which I enjoy as a former kickboxer.

Negative experience: No hot water for months now EDIT: Can confirm it was fixed after review was left. Edit#2: now there's dogs being bathed in the showers. Cancelled my membership. Can't take it anymore. Absolutely filthy place.

Negative experience: This corporation is desperate for your money and is not transparent about the 30 day advanced notice they claim to require prior to cancellation (and that you must fill out paperwork to cancel), so that they can charge you for at least one additional month before (and if, according to some of these other reviews) they let you out. They claimed to refund me after I pointed this out, but I have not yet seen any refund. This corporation seems to want to make quitting membership with them as difficult as possible to retain your business purely by submission. I wish I did not have to leave a low star review and I very much hope that recurring billing despite having a receipt for cancellation notice will not be a concern into the future the way multiple other people in these reviews seem to be struggling with.

Negative experience: I don’t come to the location often, but today I stopped by while working in the area. I was told I’d have to upgrade my membership to enter because this location is “a level 3” gym as of December 2022 - something I have never been told at any Golds. I let the manager Benjamin know that this was my first time being made aware of this and asked politely if I could still workout considering I have been a Golds member for years now and already had some pre-workout supplements. He mentioned I could upgrade for a $1 charge plus another $8 monthly. Since I don’t go to this location often I said that wouldn’t be necessary but that if I could still workout for the day being a loyal member and not knowing this change. He then proceeded to insinuate that since I’ve already “snuck in under the radar twice” that I he wouldn’t allow it. Which offended me immensely considering I always check in at the desk and never intend to be “under the radar”. I pressed that I was just there for the day and didn’t need to upgrade but would love to be accommodated for just the day, being a member for so long. In which he said that if I “can’t afford it then he can’t let me in”. Incredibly rude and disrespectful. Complete lack of appreciation for my membership and loyalty, I’ve never felt so unimportant to a business. I would steer clear of this location unless you can “afford it”.

Fantastic experience: Y'all. I cannot even begin to tell you what an amazing impact Personal Trainer Edward "T" Cantrell has has on my life. I'm a gal who's been struggling with weight loss. In the past 5.5 years, I've managed to go from 230 pounds of curvaceous to 15.6% body fat of bodacious! When I met T in October of 2012, I was at about 23% body fat and just knew I had to take my weight loss to the next level. I asked him to help train me for the upcoming Warrior Dash (that was happening in only 3 weeks!). It has now been 4 months and I still meet with T several times a week. He is tough--and I mean REAL tough. However, he is REAL GOOD and GETS RESULTS. I am in love with my physique and am constantly amazed when I look in the mirror. I'm telling you....this man is phenomenal. He makes me believe that I can push myself beyond the limits, and I do....every time. He's not "sales pitchy" either. I keep paying the man because I truly believe in him and my new-found acceptance of and pride in the way I look is all because of him One awesome downtown Gold's Gym offering is T's Functional Fitness Boot Camp. Twice a week at 6:30am, T teaches a boot camp class. Because of T's personal attention and motivating personality, it's basically like getting personal training sessions for half off. I recommend this boot camp to ANYONE looking for a challenge. While I'm on the topic of praising people to the nth degree, I have to shout out to Jessica and her Body Combat class on Fridays at lunchtime. I'm telling you--this class is AWESOME. It's not cheesy/dancey (which I know many people don't like). It's serious A$$-kicking, sweating fun. Jessica offers options for people of different fitness levels, but is not afraid to push you a little further. On Friday at noon, when most people are going out for lunch or starting their weekend early, I'm busting my butt in Jessica's Combat class. Makes me feel a heck of a lot better about Friday Happy Hour....you know what I'm sayin'? In conclusion, I just love T and Jessica. I love the entire staff at Gold's Downtown...from the manager to the trainers to the GGX instructors and even the housekeeping staff! Everyone is so friendly and makes you feel like a million bucks.

Fantastic experience: This location tends to not be as crowded as other locations, especially during peak times. It is far less crowded than an 24 hour fitness location, which I am also a member of. Good selection of weights and machines. Alot of gyms are lacking free weights, this location has plenty of them. Great personal trainers, I use Justin Holmes and he is awesome!

Positive experience: This is a good downtown gym with friendly staff. The layout here is a little small and oddly shaped as there are machines on three different floors. Also this gym gets particularly busy, especially around 5-9pm. Overall it is a good gym and I would recommend it especially for the price.

Fantastic experience: I love this gym. The variety of equipment, the location, the friendly staff, the mini sauna, the price, and finally, the standard of Gold's Gym. I don't see myself finding a better option and honestly I don't even want to look for it. The only minor thing that is not a deal breaker is that they say 35lbs weight plates are not essential at the Gym and I kind of disagree. If you are seeing this, what do you think? Thumbs up if you think 35lbs plates are essential.

Negative experience: Ridiculously crowded with shady business practices. The gym is nice for a reasonable price in my opinion, but holy cow is this place crowded. I had to quit because every time I worked out I spent more time waiting for equipment to open up than actually working out. About that, this company *will not let you quit*. I called them both locally and their corporate line, and they literally refuse to let you quit. I then blocked them from charging my credit card and moved on with my life. They followed that up by selling >$200 of "debt" to a debt collector who is now harassing me. Good luck collecting that Gold's. What a terrible company.

Fantastic experience: Been going here for just under 2 years since moving to austin. It's the perfect spot... location is great, the staff/management are super friendly, and has all equipment you'd need. What sold me was the fact that it had a sauna for the affordable memebership fee

Negative experience: Smaller than I expected for a downtown gym. Lots of stairs/levels like an Escher drawing. There were maybe 2-3 adjustable benches by the dumbbells and not much other equipment. Everything felt jammed together due to limited space. Could probably get a similar workout at a hotel gym, but it’s fine if you’re in the area and want a quick cardio session and shower.

Negative experience: Deceptive payment agreements. Watch out if you ask for the towel because even if you quit your membership on time they will charge you for the towel twice since its apparently separate. They also purposely do not mention that you can pay 12 instead of 20 to deal with that situation at the beginning.

Negative experience: The general manager of Gold's Gym, Steve Johnson, has the worst customer service skills I have ever encountered. He shouldn't be running a gym.

Fantastic experience: Because of its proximity to the more dangerous part of 6th street, it’s never crowded! Large gym, so waiting for equipment is rare

Negative experience: Super busy so it's hard to get a good workout in. Also the amount of homeless people crowded around the entrance made me not feel safe to go there, showers super duty, the personal trainers when they are in the training session are on the phone. and they also charge parking

Positive experience: Not a bad gym for the price. Gets pretty busy a lot... a bit of deceptive payment contracts but at least it's not a lot of money when they bill you for an extra month because they hooked you into knowing months ahead of time when you'll be leaving.
