Ascend Gymnastics Auburn: Opinions

Fantastic experience: So much fun
Fantastic experience: I enrolled 2 of my daughters here. My 6 yr old was in Mighty Stars and she loved it! My 11 yr old is still enrolled and can't wait to go to her class every week. The coaches are great at taking each girl aside and showing them what to work on so they can progress to the next level.
Positive experience: Good place, nice workers and coaches but if you don't like the smell of sweat parents, just drop off your kids and then come pick em' up.
Fantastic experience: We’ve been going to Ascend gymnastics in Auburn for about 7 years now and love this place! My kiddos love the preschool open gym and we’ve done birthday parties here. The coaches are always so friendly and the facility is clean and well maintained. Highly recommend!
Positive experience: Daughter is 8 and she enjoys her classes. She appears to be progressing with gymnastics nicely. However, the staff is not family friendly. We attempt to do homework with my other son, and bring our 2 year old also. Staff routinely asks us to not do homework. We also used to do our own workouts in the parking lot. Staff has asked us not to do that also. So if you are a parent who buries themselves in an iPad or drops their kid off, then I am sure this facility is good. But for a family who wants to watch one child but also have another in attendance then the facility is rather frustrating.
Fantastic experience: Auburn gymnastics has been our favorite gymnastics gym for so many years.
Fantastic experience: Best places 3ver
Fantastic experience: Great place to celebrate kids birthdays. Good service provided by the staffs. Kids love to spend time here.
Fantastic experience: So thankful for this place, we found amidst covid and it has been our saving grace, a safe place for my daughter to get her energy out, as well as learn to be on a team and be a respectful human being. So thankful for the coaches and staff here.
Negative experience: My daughter just turned 2 and enrolled in the tiny stars. She has never had any gymnastics experience - I mean, she's 2 - but is exceeding her milestones for fine and gross motor development, and has been in a dance class through Kent Parks and Rec for 6 months that she adores. I am also a certified elementary education teacher. I can honestly say our experience was not only disappointing, but unsettling. The instructors were not patient, and asked her to hurry up so others could have a turn. Even during warm ups, children were asked to do several activities that are not age appropriate. The instructor called her out for not jumping enough, which she can actually do but was choosing not to. I'd hate to know what would happen if she was developmentally on track and still couldn't jump (since that's not a milestone until 2.5 years). Directions for 5-6 separate, new activities, were given at once, and modeled while students were asked to sit and watch quietly. Again, milestones for this age dictate that they can follow 2 step directions, not 3- and 4- step directions for 5 different activities at once! I'm an adult and even I was forgetting all of the directions! She was afraid of the bars, but was still required to do them, leading to a meltdown and prompting the instructor to tell me that she "needs to be practicing more at home". Everything runs like clockwork; no room for children to be age appropriate toddlers and do things at their own pace/ with agency. If you're looking to groom Olympic athletes at 2 years, maybe this is for you, but if you're just looking to have fun with your child and develop motor and social skills, find something else.
Fantastic experience: I read the reviews before we attended for a trial class today. I had no complaints about the front desk. Staff was friendly and place was very clean. Something similar I did come into contact with is the age requirements. I was straight forward that my daughter doesn't have any bar experience but she does have tumbling from competitive cheer where she’s been less than a year and she tumbles with the 9+. They said due to her age which is over 6.5 now she could not join the 7 year old beginner class. The class we did a trial for was in a smaller pre-k looking area , my daughter felt it was too slow pace to which I can agree. What She had wasn’t what I would say was an evaluation, she just participated in the class and they watched her as much as you can when you’re teaching a class with 5:6 others. I expected it to be more like show us what skills you do have and which ones you need to work on, because they didn’t get a chance to see what she really could do. She can do her splits left, right and center. Also do a handstand which needs improving . She can do forward roll and backward rolls And cartwheel and back bend and more. But she was deemed only competent enough for the 4-6 year old class where none of the kids could do the same without the mats. I watched the 7 from across the room and some of them in the beginner class don’t even have some of her skills but simply because they are 7 they get to participate in that class.Auburn is a little ways out so we will just be waiting until she turns 7 .maybe take classes at the Y which is closer and offers financial aid so she’s more prepared with bar skills. Other than that great place for like a beginner all the way around all gyms have their own policies this just does not match my daughters wants/ needs at the moment.
Fantastic experience: Very sweet community The girls are very patient with the younger ones.
Fantastic experience: The very best! Fantastic classes! They are great with the girls! Wonderful program's!
Fantastic experience: Currently I am in the gymnastics journey of having my third daughter go through the competitive program at Ascend. So my review may be biased since I am already loyal to the owners, coaches and kids that attend. But with that being said I love my kids with all my heart and only want the best for them. This is why I have been loyal to Ascend/Auburn gymnastics. This is the best place to take your kids if you want the best for them. If you want them to learn the sport, and build lasting relationships while in the process this is the place. Keep in mind the sport itself can be hard, just imagine learning to point your toes and body in shape while flying through the sky. the goal is progress not perfection. Every kid regardless the skill level will make progress from recreation classes on up.
Fantastic experience: My little one just started, but she enjoyed it. They seem to be knowledgeable and professional.
Fantastic experience: Great experience
Fantastic experience: What is the age we can learn
Fantastic experience: My four year old loves her classes here.
Negative experience: If i could give zero i would. My daughter has been dying to get back Into gymnastics since covid we live an hour a way and our current gym is closed and isn’t opening for a while. I found this place and saw all the great reviews and emailed them to find a class for my daughter as the website didn’t show pricing or any super specific details. They recommended the trial class for the mighty stars because of her age (4) when we Arrived the front desk was super rude i don’t ever recall getting their names we weren’t even told her coaches name or where we should meet as they only checked us in and our temperatures. Once i ask a coach passing by she lead us to the smaller room for her class. when she went she was bored as it was to simple for her and not challenging at all i went to the front desk and ask if it was possible to try a different class i got annoyed sighs and rude attitude that only coaches can move kids up and they can’t do anything about it. I said okay and went back to watch my daughter with my husband in the middle front desk came and started talking with the coaches pointing at us and laughing rolling their eyes i felt embarrassed and angry. Afterwards one of the coaches ( can’t recall her name but she has a accent super sweet we loved her ! ) pulled us aside and talked to us explained how everything worked and even brought over the TOPs coach to see where my daughters skill level was and recommended another trial class. We did a private with her she is amazing patient and explained to my daughter each movement and why we loved it and were excited for the next trial class. Next trial class smaller class which was great my daughter not quite knowing the routine of workouts did her best and from my point of view as well as another parent commented said she was keeping up quite well. I will admit she’s not perfect she did get frustrated during the handstand station and felt embarrassed by her coach as she didn’t understand what she meant by a lung handstand and after that station she did get frustrated and more shy as she is a perfectionist and always wants to get better. Towards the end of the class a random desk lady came up never introduced herself or anything said very rudely in front of my daughter that she wasn’t good enough and didn’t have the skills or maturity to be in that class and I couldn’t even ask or even get to speak with the coach either but she kept saying over and over the same thing and to put her back in the class of her own age. I understand some kids need little more time of technique and terminology I’m upset that they dont even try and get to know her , or really see her skills that i know she has ( every parent is bias i know but she has the skill and drive she pushes harder at home and we encourage it because she loves it ) expect her to get everything down when still trying to know the coach and the gym with zero communication I don’t recommend classes here at all very disappointing because we loved our private lessons. Edit: I didn’t mention this earlier as I was very upset and so broken even now I can’t write this without crying my eyes out but I just wanted to get my review in. As a parent you love your kids and you would do anything for them. While the front desk lady said she wasn’t good enough she couldn’t listen , didn’t have the skill or maturity right in front of her hearing ever single word. My amazing daughter starts jumping up and down saying “ no I listened and I did so good , I listened mommy” I’ve never felt this kind of heartache and pain I rather cut my arm off than feel this kind of pain again for my child that was so excited and so proud of what she did with the big girls and wanting to be just like the big girls. I do want to thank the little blonde girl in that Thursday class I hope your parents see this thank you so much for encouraging my daughter and showing her how to do some of the exercises when she got nervous and having patience I’m so grateful that she had a classmate like you to help her thank you so much!
Negative experience: Daughter learned more advanced skills than her current class due to her previous instruction, asked the staff to screen for a more advanced class on the first day. Coaches agreed to advance her to a higher class, and on the second time around, she was trying to get used to their style of teaching. After second class, someone who wasn’t apart of her first screening bumped her back down to a lower class because she was learning as quickly (on the first day of a new class), was highly critical in front of her afterwards (even though she wasn’t even watching her class). I don’t think it’s appropriate to criticize any child when they want to be there and have already been told that they know enough to be there. Doesn’t seem like everyone there is on the same page or has the patience to at least let a child adjust to a new environment. Very judgemental and not open to working with parents to help their kids (not all their staffers of course). Looks bad for the business when one of their employees criticizes a child when they’re not even a part of their development.
Fantastic experience: This is a great place for kids. My 6 year old has gained so much self confidence being a participant here. She strives to do well and practices to be better each week. She is normally a quieter observer but she has been able to grow her wings here. She started in the “mighty stars” and moved to “super stars” then moved to pre-team. The coaches are in tune with the kids And really help them refine skills! My 16 month old also participates. We are taking a little break with her right now but we will be back! She giggles so much, loves the attention from the teachers, and is learning to follow instructions. We love ascend.
Fantastic experience: I like it very nice place and can't wait to see my kids start class there
Fantastic experience: My cousin and her kids are enrolled in here and she's discussing a lot of positive stuff. So I am thinking of enrolling my kids too.
Fantastic experience: Im a gymnast here and its so much fun
Fantastic experience: Great place. Great coaches!
Positive experience: Nice place, lots of programs
Negative experience: I am very unhappy with how this gym runs. I will never let one of my kids step foot into an Auburn Gymnastics Center again.
Fantastic experience: Great place. My daughter is so excited every week. Teaches kids fitness and discipline.
Fantastic experience: My daughter has been going there for a year now, and she loves it. We've absolutely loved all of the coaches she's had. They're very supportive and encouraging. They also encourage the girls to support each other. She's made great friends there. I recommend them to everyone
Fantastic experience: Enjoyed seeing the staff work with the kids
Fantastic experience: Im a gymnast from this gym and i think you have to put in the work their looking for for to get the attention you would want. They have three gyms. The coaches are super nice when you don't be rude. This gym is top 5 in the U.S. So you will need a mind set that say you would bust your butt and fight mentaly past your fears. Thats if you want to go team. When I first got there they were going to make me level 3. But, they had and saw more potential in me. So they made me a level 4 for a season . Then they saw more in me so they put me level 6. That was amazing untill i remebered the requirment and that was my second year in gymnastics. But, I had an amazing year this year. Moral of the story they push you past what you think you are cappibal of. They are the best gym ever. P.S They are tremendously competitive.
Negative experience: This place is horrible I live near it so my daughter always wanted to go so I said why not be fun for her to meet other kids which some of the kids go to school with her to so I signed her up for a month not one time they told me what class she would be in never spoke to me never asked me if she enjoying the class if she wanted to try a new class or what just a FYI the classes or not cheap and not trying to make a color difference because everyone know's the color of money so that's the color I see lol GOD made all of us so we or brother and sisters in this world mind you we on the 3rd week of the classes still don't no where who when is the instructor and being a mother the best thing in the world is making your kid happy safe respectful polite etc..mothers you can agree with me on this having a schedule and organization is great makes life more easier but I'm never going to pay for send my baby somewhere where she treated farely or made to feel lesser cause she black that she come in last not ever and it's crazy that you have to teach your kid about racism at the age of 6 years old but you do but this is why you have to let people know that you or aware of what is going on and call them out use your voice and your head email phone whatever you have to so no one else fell or mistreat you or anyone you love away for a service you paying your hard earned money on well thanks for listening and God bless you and yours
Fantastic experience: I am a level 7 there and it is AMAZING i LOVE IT there. The coaches will help you through you problems. I started at this gym at the age of 3 and I'm 11 now and I'm still enjoying it. its my second home. it's my life. We have recreational gym al the way up to level 10 but we do also have 2 other facilities one in summer and in dupont.this one is the Auburn location I personally like it the most out of all of them. but I haven't ever practiced at the other facilities.
Fantastic experience: This is an amazing place for beginners to start...instructors are patient it gets pretty busy sometimes you have to be prepared and be patient because u may not find parking spots close to the main entrance it gets crazy sometimes, staff is great.
Positive experience: Good facility and knowledgeable staff
Negative experience: Bought voucher on Groupon for my son but can't redeem it - representative said that no space available for this location. Sadly.
Fantastic experience: This place is fantastic! My daughter loves it. From recreational gymnastics to now on team. Love the coaches.
Fantastic experience: My daughter just finished her first session and she has become noticeably more graceful, flexible, and stronger. The ladies at the front desk go above and beyond to help out. Yesterday Laura diligently handled my issues while helping 2 other parents and changing the printer ink. I was impressed with her customer service and ability to proficiently multi task. Thanks for all your work, my family appreciates the staff of Auburn Gymnastics! Keep up the good work!
Negative experience: We did a trial class and I left feeling like everyone was extremely rude. It took forever to check in, even when arriving early. When we were finally walked over to the class, the teacher was like “she in the right class? How old is she?”. Yes I know my daughter is taller and bigger than kids her age but there is better ways to phrase that question. The teacher also rolled her eyes after learning she’s only taken classes once before. At the end of class I wanted to talk to the teacher to make sure she was in the right class and she just walked off/disappeared! Then there was still a line at the desk so I didn’t even bother to stop and no one tried to talk to me about signing up/how we liked it. It was not welcoming at all! I know my daughter will not be a future gymnast but she loves it and it would be great for her coordination, just never again at this gym! Edit: After speaking with the gym, we had a much better experience with a different coach. Thank you so much!
Fantastic experience: All of the staff are inviting, friendly, and helpful. The coaches are knowledgable, and it's never so busy the little kids get run over by the larger kids. It's definitely a gym, so it smells like one, and it can get a little warm inside, but they'll open the big garage doors and let the breeze roll through. It's affordable, but not cheap. Just remember you get what you're paying for, and here, you're paying for quality coaching, a nice facility, and staff that are exceptional with all age levels. I feel that my child gets great training for gymnastics, and she has so much fun doing it. We tried a few other gyms before finding this one, and honestly nothing compares. We love going every week.
Fantastic experience: Because this is where I grew up
Fantastic experience: I love gymnastics
Fantastic experience: Great coaches and teammates!
Fantastic experience: This is one of the best gyms and I love it! the coaches are great! everything is amazing!
Fantastic experience: Great place to play and introduce gymnastics to the young. Open gym twice a week. Good price.
Fantastic experience: Really good place to bring your little kids and make them stay active.
Fantastic experience: Best gym in Washington! Most caring coaches.
Fantastic experience: Great rec program, great team program, and great coaches!!!!
Positive experience: Never been but I'm in bronze at roach which got sold to aburn so should be good
Fantastic experience: Our first introduction to this great facility was at a birthday party. My daughter responded so well to the teachers that we decided to sign her up for lessons. She has learned so much and it has been great watching her grow as a gymnast. Her teachers have all been fantastic and you can tell that they care.
Fantastic experience: We have our daughter in the "Mighty Stars' (girls age 5-6) class on Saturdays. We have been really impressed. Especially with the teacher, Laura. I don't think you could get a better coach than her. She is really interactive, hands on, age appropriate (understands the attention span of that age group) and is just plain outstanding. She never lets the kids rehearse mistakes or incorrect form....which has been a problem with other dance studios in our experience in the past. This teacher REALLY cares her coaching seriously. She is also a really sweet and soft person with the children, so she is not like a drill army sergeant with them. OUTSTANDING experience.
Fantastic experience: Awesome gymnastics program, great coaches, and very involved owner. Can't say enough good things about Auburn Gymnastics we had our daughters enrolled at other gyms in the area so we have something to gauge Auburn's excellence to. We would recommend to any family that is new to the sport or heavily involved.
