Our comment from FitFit United States about Equinox Palo Alto:
Equinox Palo Alto is a gym that offers a spacious environment with many modern amenities, including a rooftop swimming pool and high-quality cleaning services. Members appreciate the top-notch equipment, diverse fitness classes, and friendly personal trainers that create an overall positive experience. The gym features excellent facilities such as clean showers and locker rooms, as well as a juice bar.
However, some users have expressed concerns regarding the high membership fees, which they find to be overpriced considering the quality of services provided. Others have noted that the equipment can often be outdated or not properly maintained, leading to wait times for machines, particularly during peak hours.
Customer service has received mixed reviews, with some members reporting unprofessional interactions and unresolved issues regarding membership cancellations and freezes. This has resulted in a negative experience for those who value responsive customer service.
In summary, while Equinox Palo Alto boasts a clean and well-equipped facility with a variety of fitness options, potential members should consider the high cost and experience reported by others regarding customer service and equipment maintenance.
Equinox Palo Alto: Opinions
Negative experience: Toured this gym with my mother as we are new to the area and trying to find a nice gym, there are some nice amenities however the membership is definitely overpriced. I’m sure this gym is great if you are someone who likes to take a class once a month and isn’t really committed to working out as the free weights section is very lack luster and the gym is mostly classes and cardio machines. For a Tuesday at noon gym was crowded so I can only imagine how it is at peak hours. The woman who gave us a tour was very nice but Mike is a tool, there are many better options close by and I believe signing up for a year contract here would be a decision most would regret.
Negative experience: I contacted this club in February to freeze my account and notify them I've been injured. The person at the front desk mentioned they would put a freeze and assist with reimbursement. Now, 6 MONTHS down the line, they still charge me for a "membership."... I'm not a member. Chris Ybona, the Assistant General Manager, exhibited unprofessional behavior during my interaction. He was rude, raised his voice, and even hung up on me while I was trying to ask a question. His actions clearly indicate a lack of respect for customers and a power-hungry attitude. I'm not one to write reviews, but people should be aware of how they treat people. The Gym itself is okay. You can find cleaner and better-maintained gyms that treat you like a real person for less money.
Negative experience: Lately the Gym has been in decline. The water equipment and the urinal in the bathroom has been broken for weeks. Please pay almost 300 USD monthly to attend this gym and they can't fix this equipment quickly?
Positive experience: Great gym with fancy amenities and a wide range of classes, but not worth the exorbitant cost. Hard to find spots in the classes with the best trainers.
Fantastic experience: Interesting location also I love how the music changes to saxophone in the restrooms and this place has an amazing pool also it is right Nextdoor to Fry’s Electronics which I love
Fantastic experience: This gym is as special as it sounds. Top notch equipment and classes, great instructors and personal trainers, and very clean facility. Simply the best gym I have seen around.
Positive experience: This is the only Equinox I’ve been to, so my review is based on value compared to other nearby gyms (24 Hour, Movement). I’ve been a member for about 7 months now and feel satisfied with the offering. There are plenty of treadmills and cardio equipment in both sections of the building. The squat racks are in one section and limited, so there’s a wait for them 50% of the time. The monthly price is over 10x other chains, but I was willing to pay a premium for the cleanliness, nicer building/interiors, nicer restrooms, and minimal high school students. The group fitness instructors are great and there are a variety of classes and teachers. I’ve only experienced one no-show with one of the yoga class instructors. Overall I’d rate this gym a 3.5/5; it’s a bit expensive for the amount of time I’m able to use it, and I plan to cancel after my year contract is up.
Negative experience: Really really bad service, not that good as you pay , pretty old machine, always line to machine, not worth for sure almost 300$ Really bad experience never going to return that gym again.never! manger Cris is just a liar and absolutely not gonna help you with anything you want, Find a better place then that you will no regret!
Negative experience: Terrible customer service. The gym equipment and amenities don't amount to the pricing for the gym. It's despicable
Negative experience: This gym should not be allowed to function under the equinox brand. An embarrassment. Four broken stair steppers that have not been fixed for the two years I’ve been a member. Overrun by high school kids. Over crowded. Constantly a mess

Negative experience: Just moved here from Dallas. Sadly this is the least updated equinox - respectfully I was taken back to 2010. So paying the same price at this location as an updated 2024 equinox doesn’t make sense unfortunately :/
Negative experience: This has to be the worst gym periodt! All they want is your money and then try to sell you more upgrades. And then lack of communication, accountability, and utter disregard for a pleasant client experience. I spoke to Michael and Stefan and they are both rude, callous and not customer centric. Their arrogant and discourteous attitude baffles me. You are better off with a Planetfitness membership than this dump!
Negative experience: The worst mistake I made was joining this gym. DON'T! They are super great and friendly and welcoming until you sign. Then you never hear from them. They are not concerned with your concerns at all. How hard is it to respond to an email??? It is a total scam too. I emailed and emailed them with concerns and they never responded. Then I received this: "You started your membership on xx/xx/xxxx and it would be 48 days from when you requested to cancel on xx/xx/xxxx. Since this is beyond 45 days..." What the hell is this about 45 days? I was NEVER told this and would have for SURE cancelled if it was possible within 45 days. I was hopeful to return to swimming but this place is unfriendly, unwelcoming and it's a hike to just get to the pool. The pool is cold and small. There is no hot tub. The locker room is arranged so that there is hardly room to move around. The environment made me not want to come back. The year-term is AWFUL and should be changed to allow people to try this place out and see if meets their needs. I will cancel the day my contract is up and never recommend this place to anyone. STAY AWAY.

Fantastic experience: 공간이 넓고 운동하기에 참 좋고 특히 스팀 사우나가 좋다.
Negative experience: Extremely expensive membership and not open for guests
Fantastic experience: I had a massage in the Spa, from Jasmine Sosa. She is incredibly talented, intuitive, and has a wicked sense of humor. She really helped me and just knew exactly where I was hurting. I highly recommend her!

Fantastic experience: I used the spa ,got a deep tissue massage with Mirella Sosa she’s so good! My back and shoulders feel so relax after my session! If you are considering to get a deep tissue ,get Mirella she’s Great!

Fantastic experience: be your best!!
Negative experience: Much better equinox in NY
Fantastic experience: Great, this gym is the best.
Negative experience: Terrible customer interaction skills and poor attitude at the front desk. Big turn off. Lots of other good gym alternatives everywhere.
Negative experience: The salesperson MICHAEL MELENDEZ has been bombarding me with marketing information in all possible ways (email, phone call, sms). Please stop!
Negative experience: I have been a member for about 7 years. It is sad to see that the service quickly had been consistently going down.
Negative experience: really poor attitude from the front desk, asked for quick tour of the promise but guy claimed gonna be living in 7 minutes so refuses to allow us in for a quick look around say we either got to buy day pass or activate gym membership . what is the big deal with a quick look ? We didn't even bring gym bags so obviously wasn't planning to use the facility. I expected apple like service from equinox but this quality of service even worst than 711
Negative experience: I was recently in an accident and can’t use the gym. I got a doctors note so I may cancel.I was told I couldn’t work out for the foreseeable future and even then could only walk. The gym said they would not cancel unless I got a note that said I could never work out again. So unless you die?? Very clean, great gym. Extremely poor customer service, now I pay $300 a month for a sauna.
Negative experience: I believe punctuality should be a basic expectation for any gym. Unfortunately, during my recent visit, the manager arrived late for our meeting. Consequently, I had to wait for the introduction before being able to use the gym facilities. This delay was quite frustrating and felt like a waste of my time. In the end, I decided to leave before even getting the chance to meet the manager.
Negative experience: These guys will NEVER respond to your email or calls again once you signed up for membership. They can't even handle the most basic customer requests. I sent them a medical note to freeze my membership and hadn't gotten any response yet. In the meantime, they are apparently busy sending customer reach-out emails to my fiancé, who I brought as a guest to the gym once before. How funny. I seriously regret my decision to join them, and really should've read these reviews more carefully before I joined.
Negative experience: Emailed the manager 2x about cancellation due to relocation - no response. Spoke with membership advisors 2x about my credit card being mischarged (I switched to select but was still charged all-access). The first advisor told me she'll handle it, then didn't. The second advisor said he'll get back to me in 15min, but then got off work without ever speaking to me. Of course I also emailed the manager about this issue and got no response. So all in all, I've either emailed or spoke to Equinox in person 5 times, and they haven't even received an acknowledgement or response let alone solving my issues. The entire staff is utterly incompetent at dealing with customers. Did I also mention that this all occurred within a span of 3 weeks? These are the type of customer experiences you should expect at this Equinox location.
Negative experience: The worst customer service from assistant general managers! Jean-Luc was absolutely terrible - heard he moved over to a different location. Couldn’t even process a simple basic freeze and it took 6 weeks to rectify such a small issue with me constantly trying to get a hold of him. Wouldn’t take calls nor would they call you back. The new management is also slow in responding. For how much you’re paying, by far the worst customer service I’ve ever encountered. Almost about to quit!
Fantastic experience: Best gym around
Fantastic experience: amazing gym
Fantastic experience: Good gym
Positive experience: I work out there.
Negative experience: Worst customer relations ever with a terrible management. Does not get back to e-mails. It is not worth the money or the hype.
Fantastic experience: 5 star and let’s keep that way! Clean and packed with equipment. Shout-out to Daniel also…
Negative experience: Terrible place. They do not care about health, only your money. Avoid, avoid, avoid. Insanely overpriced for what they offer. They take full advantage of the monied Bay Area.
Negative experience: I was amazed after seeing NY equinox and always wanted to join at some point. But, this equinox is not at all like luxury ones out there.BUMMER!!! Also, they have one year contract which most likely sales agent will not talk about it so be careful while joining it.
Fantastic experience: My review is for Monica Kimoto, she is my Pilates reformer instructor. She is a wonderful teacher, full of knowledge and passionate about it. Adding to that, she is so kind. I love my one of one classes with her.
Positive experience: I work in PA so I wanted a nice gym that was close to work. This one wasn't it. For how pricey it is, I'm unimpressed. I've been to a few other Equinox locations in the US including NYC and the one in PA doesn't stack up.
Fantastic experience: Now if they start opening up at 5am all will be good.
Fantastic experience: Love this club! It’s so clean, and it smells nice. My wallet takes a beating, but you do get what you pay for. Especially now a days, can’t be too careful… plus I hate germs.
Negative experience: Overdue review. I wanted to join so went in with appointment. I specifically asked not to be called after my visit as I wanted to be ready to join. However the man who was my guide called within 10min of me leaving the facility asking multiple questions. And why would you care where I live when I’m willing to spend at your facility?! So absolute disregard to my request and non sensible questions turned me off right away. FYI to the company, There are many boutique gyms available.
Fantastic experience: Why does this place only have 3.7 stars?! Y’all some high maintenance individuals out there XD. I went for the first time today and I LOVED it, here are the reasons why, -plenty of parking -front staff were sooo helpful and friendly -equipment were clean as hell -group class was a blast, everything was organized -locker rooms and showers were very clean -great amenities for showers -roof top swimming pool was dope AF Will be back to take more group classes.
Negative experience: I cancelled my membership. 4 months later I get a letter from a collection agency that I owe 4 months of dues!! I physically went to the gym to get this straightened out. They told me it was a mistake and that they would take care of it. I've been emailing them and the collection agency and after 2 months, it is still unresolved. I am furious that I am spending so much time on their error! Really Equinox?
Fantastic experience: Well maintained. Great staff. Cool people...
Fantastic experience: Fabulous service today with Jose Zambrana. Best Subaru dealership in the Bay Area
Negative experience: I had the worst experience possible! They promised to repay me and they are transferring the problem to other sectors. Do not believe them.
Negative experience: I guess California Equinox are not NY ones. Really poor customer service at the desk and from the managers. Also an unprofessional experience for guests as far as level of service and operation.
Negative experience: I try and avoid this EQ as much as possible bc the machines are run down, outdated, dirty, rusted. The trainers are not friendly and the majority of them sit behind their desk , not working. The bathrooms are not cleaned as there are always water puddles around the sink, puddles on the floor, showers are never clean. Puddles on the floor are a huge liability if somebody slips. Management doesn't seem to do anything about it either as I've mentioned these conditions a few times. I will escalate this to corporate at some point.
Fantastic experience: Очень хорошое места
Negative experience: Too many people there...
Positive experience: It is the best gym in Palo Alto. It is not perfect, but it works well enough for me.
Negative experience: I dpn't think the member fee is worthy. I prefer LIfetime Fitness
Negative experience: I went there to get information about their memberships and take a tour of their facilities. The guy at the front desk told me that I can find all the information online. I asked to speak with one of their membership reps but the rep didn't even bother to to come up to the front desk and meet with me.
Positive experience: The men’s locker room is essentially a sauna weekday mornings. It’s nearly impossible to leave without having sweated through my undershirt. It appears management is aware but hasn’t resolved the issue. Aside from this, it seems like a normal Equinox. Quite nice and overpriced.
Negative experience: Overpriced
Fantastic experience: Beautiful, sun drenched and clean.
Fantastic experience: Best gym in Palo Alto
Positive experience: Very clean, never too busy. Fantastic classes. Great, clean locker rooms. Get a GOOD workout
Negative experience: Dirty, especially the men's lockers where guys shave in the steam room and dye their facial hair in front of the mirrors leaving permanent black marks on the counters. Shower drains clogged with what looks like pubic hair. Long lines at the shower, too cold water in the pool, unfriendly staff, crowded classes, "reserved'" equipment by members who leave their stuff on them till they finish doing whatever...
Thanks for your feedback, Arthur. We have passed your review along to management and ask that if we can further assist, please contact [email protected].
Negative experience: I have asked Equinox for the past two months to cancel my membership and they continue to charge my card. Beware, they do not respect member requests for membership cancellations. This is a highly unprofessional practice and fraudulant to charge people even after you have requested to cancel the membership for several months. Yana Lusher and Kesha Collins from their member services team are not representing the company well.
Hi, Carlos. Thank you for bringing this to our attention. We would like to learn more about the difficulties you've experienced in processing your cancellation, and find a solution together. Please email [email protected].
Negative experience: Some one call the cleanup crew, this place smells rancid. Yes, I checked- my deodorant is working just fine.
Fantastic experience: Out of all the Equinox locations I've been to on the east coast and in SF this is one of my favorites. It's very large with a ton of equipment, cardio machines, and group fitness spaces. This place gets very busy. Even at 6AM the gym can get fairly crowded. I'd say that's the only negative (and also the increasing membership fees). I've also found the crowd here to be very friendly and nice.
Positive experience: The focus at Equinox Palo Alto is on aesthetics, not maintenance or function. The gym looks great. However, many of the weight machines are long overdue for major repairs or replacement (example: weight stacks stick to the rails because they are so worn.) They place squat racks and other equipment in front of windows not mirrors so watching your form is difficult. Other machines that are in front of a mirror are placed in ways that also make watching your form difficult. The sinks in the locker room are either hot or cold and the electronic faucets decide, not you (most are broken and you can't adjust the temperature. But hey, they look good). The men's locker room is very crowded and hot in the mornings making getting ready for work difficult and sweaty. Trainers take up a disproportionate amount of machines/space leaving their iPads and other personal items on equipment so they can have their clients work on 3 machines at at time during peak times. Equinox does periodic surveys and I've spoken to management on several occasions but nothing seems to change.
Negative experience: This is hands down the worse Equinox I have ever been to. Ridiculous year long contract terms (even Comcast has a month trial period to opp out if you are unsatisfied). The locker rooms are small and consistently plagued with wet floors, dirty sinks and bathroom stalls with funky smells. The classes are terribly inconsistent with one of their instructors informing us that the speaker system was broken so he put music on his phone and told us it happens all the time. The gym layout is odd with a ton of open area and lacking in equipment for its large size. The parking is usually full and the front desk seems unhappy to be there. After numerous contacts with management its clear that the team needs more training on how to treat members and their staff, whatever community college they came from its clear business management was not their focus. This gym is stuck in the past, suburban in its clientele and pedestrian in equipment and service. For the rates they demand it should at least compete with its sister locations in SF or LA but instead it reminded me more of the 24 hour fitness clubs I have been to. If I was in my later years and wanted to take a mediocre spin class I would really like this place but I'm not and I do not recommended this gym. Pros- juice bar, outdoor pool Cons- gym management, cleanliness, outdated contract obligations, old equipment, classes and instructors, parking, and lackluster atmosphere.
Hi, Jason. Thank you for sharing this feedback with us. What you've described is absolutely not in line with what Equinox wants to deliver to you at our Palo Alto club, or to any other member. We're taking note of the issues you brought up and ask that you please reach out to [email protected] so we can make it right.
Negative experience: I have been to other Equinox locations and this one really surprised me in its quality. Lock-rooms lacked space and floors were wet and it did not look very clean. The layout was strange and very crowded. It took front desk forever to get to me and they were quite impolite. I used to go frequently to their location in SoCali and I am now in search of another gym as this one is 10 grades lower quality. More like LA fitness. Not worth that money they ask for sure!
Hi Tatjana, we'd like to look into this, please email us at [email protected]
Fantastic experience: Great gym in Palo Alto.
Fantastic experience: Really nice facilities!
Negative experience: Never open always a closed events I went three time and they always said the gyms closed. I can't believe they have to get back to you the next day most gyms iv been to answer the phone or at least called me back in an hour or less
Christopher Mundwyler , we'd like to learn more about what happened and find a resolution together. Please email [email protected].
Fantastic experience: Sure, it's pretty expensive, but Equinox is a great gym and you're paying for what you get. The gym is super clean and has everything I need for my lifting, as well as plenty of cardio machines. Very rarely have I ever had to wait to use anything in the gym. There are plenty of complimentary classes, but I've only done the Vinyasa Yoga, which I enjoyed. There is also a pool on the roof that I've used a few times before accepting the fact that I'm a terribly inefficient swimmer. I could pay a trainer a lot of money to make me more efficient, but... it's a lot of money. It's the little things that really make Equinox worth it for me. The chilled Eucalyptus towels sound absolutely unnecessary but are incredibly refreshing if you're working hard. The endless supply of Kheil's shampoo, conditioner, body wash, and body lotion leave me feeling SO SMOOTH after a workout. The complementary razors in the shower room have helped me keep my abnormally large head bald and shiny for months. All staff members, from the greeter at the front desk to the staff who keep the place spotless, are extremely friendly and personable. If you're thinking about Equinox, come check it out. If the price tag scares you, try looking at it as a commitment device. You'll certainly be pushing yourself to get the most out of that extravagant monthly membership fee!
Fantastic experience: I have been a member almost since they first opened. I have never had a "bad" instructor, it is beyond clean with the staff wiping down the yoga mats after every class, Kiel products and friendly and helpful staff. It is not inexpensive but you get what you pay for and if you go enough, it is a good value.
Fantastic experience: Best Health Club in PA............. The folks that run the show, as nice as can be!
Negative experience: Watch out - they don't honor their commitments. Review keeps getting hidden - probably the equinox. Watch out - they don't honor their commitments. Upon joining I was promised a gift card to the spa, shop and this never happened despite several attempts of talking to management. Because the manager that had signed me up had been fired, they wouldn't honor what he committed to. Also, very unclean and unfriendly - I was a member of the San Mateo location for several years, did pilates and trained there. This is an entirely different experience - I would never shower in the locker rooms in palo alto it's so dirty and over-crowded. Also, they make everything difficult - freezing your membership, booking training, etc. it's very poor customer service. Management is rude and arrogant. If you want a gym in the area that has a higher-end feel, try the JCC or NoXcuses in mid-town, much better staff and experience.
Positive experience: Everyone treats you like a king here, top notch customer services. I am not a member here, but I visited this place a few times to check out their gym, very clean(yes coming from a germaphobes here). Love their second floor swimming pool, as if I have stepped into a whole different world there. I'd love to be one of their members but they are too far from my home =( , always on a watch out for their new location near Cupertino .
Fantastic experience: I have been offered $200.00 membership for 24hrs and I didn't like the 24hrs gym. I decided to explore different gyms, by accident I noticed the Equinox and I tried different classes for the first complimentary days and as soon as I attended the Dancation class by Heath Hunter, I made up my mind to signe up. Heath's energy is phenomona and he is a creative performer. His class is full of life and excitement, even on some days that I'm not in a good mood and lack of energy, attending Dancation turn on my energy to my ideal level. This gym is very clean and has a great cleaning crew. I love this gym....It was the best choice for picking up the gym for me so far...
Positive experience: very expensive. they recently expanded in summer of 2013, but didn't expand the locker rooms, so it can get really, really crowded in there, which also means that since they expanded, the cleanliness of the locker rooms has gone down hill big time. in the end, they got bigger, charge more, but quality went way down. i moved over to the bay club in cupertino even though it's farther from work.
Fantastic experience: Love the looks of the gym from the outside. Went in and signed up immediately. Love the place and the food creates a great atmosphere to cycle you work outs. The salwater pool is a must since I'm a surfer.
Fantastic experience: Great gym
