Our comment from FitFit United States about Rogue Rock Gym:
Rogue Rock Gym, located in Medford, United States, is a beloved climbing destination for both beginners and experienced climbers alike. Visitors consistently praise the friendly and knowledgeable staff, who are dedicated to providing a welcoming environment. Many users appreciate the well-maintained facilities and the variety of climbing routes that are regularly updated, making each visit unique and engaging.
The gym offers an impressive mix of bouldering, top-rope, and lead climbing options, with many feeling that the route setting is creative and challenging, pushing climbers of all skill levels to improve. Families frequently visit, enjoying the kid-friendly atmosphere, and staff members are noted for their helpfulness, particularly with newcomers.
Some visitors have expressed concerns about overcrowding during busy times and the presence of younger children, which can lead to safety issues and a less enjoyable experience for serious climbers. A few users have also mentioned that the route grading can sometimes feel inconsistent.
Despite these concerns, the overall sentiment remains positive, with many declaring Rogue Rock Gym as a fantastic place to climb and work out. With a well-equipped workout area and a commitment to fostering a strong climbing community, this gym is definitely worth a visit!
Rogue Rock Gym: Opinions

Fantastic experience: I took a course here with my wife and we love the experience. I only wish we had a gym closer to our home. I can't imagine leaving anything less than a five-star review, there's nothing like this gym anywhere near here and to compare it to some big city gym elsewhere would be silly! This gym exceeds all expectations.
Thank you Barrett! Glad you enjoyed your time at RRG! Hope to see you again!❤️
Fantastic experience: Front desk was awesome and helped us a lot as it was our first time. Overall a great experience
Positive experience: Visiting from out of town - glad this gym is here. Front desk looked shocked that I requested a gri gri as a belay device. The belay test is conducted with an ATC, which is what the gym provides. Route setting is OK, I enjoyed many of the routes but didn’t feel that hold placement was particularly thoughtful.
Positive experience: Really friendly and helpful staff. Good location close to bus stop. Routes are okay, mostly quiet straight forward. Would be more fun if it's more technical
Fantastic experience: This is a really fun place our whole family went and had a blast! This was really fun since it was a day after the Fourth of July. Thank you Matt for the great service!
Thank you Scott! Glad the family had fun!!Matt
Fantastic experience: I visited Rogue Rock gym while traveling through the area a couple weeks back. I accidentally left my crack gloves and belay glasses there and Matt promptly packaged and shipped them to my home no questions asked - thank you SO MUCH!
Fantastic experience: It seem like a very popular place to take kid. I had a bus load and they had alot of fun.
Thanks Lisa, and thanks for bringing all the kids! We appreciate it! Hope they all had a blast!Regards,MattOwner
Fantastic experience: A nice gym. Friendly employees. They have a ping pong table.
Fantastic experience: EDIT** Appreciative of prompt response from owner about a problem. Communication about events limiting access to the gym has improved over time, this seems to have been an outlier, and ultimately a planned, productive use of the gym. Mea culpa. ** Is there anyway future "movie nights" in the gym could put be put on the calendar or emailed out to paying subscribers so we don't waste our time coming down to work out?
Hi JD, sorry. We were approached by the leaders of the Southern Oregon Climbers Coalition asking for a venue to host a free climbing film showing. We said yes as we support their organization as they are doing good things to bring the climbing community in Southern Oregon together and build it by getting people psyched on climbing. SOCC and RRG has been posting about it on our social media for several weeks now, sorry you missed it. We will do better to post more notices in the gym. It was the first time we’ve shown a climbing film in years, and we don’t plan on doing it frequently. Although many people have suggested that they would like us to. I’m glad the film wrapped up just a few minutes after you checked in at 9pm and you still had until 10pm to work out. We just recently increased our hours for the few like yourself who like come in after 9pm. Seems like the one star review is a little harsh, you visit our gym often and if you think our business deserves 1 star maybe you’d prefer a different workout facility. Take care, see ya soon.Best Regards, MattGym Owner
Fantastic experience: Awesome place to go climb
Fantastic experience: Love this place great for getting a little workout
Fantastic experience: Great place. Friendly staff. Clean facility. Been going here for years and would highly recommend
Positive experience: Good rock gym. Staff isn’t super friendly and tends to hang out in cliques.
Fantastic experience: They were super welcoming and helpful, they happily answered any questions I had. I highly recommend this place and I am definitely coming back
Negative experience: Main issue: kids are frequently running under climbers without any correction from staff or caregivers--even under people bouldering. This should be a bigger red flag, but it seems to be the norm. This is perpetuated by the fact that the facility is almost always overcrowded. Fix the serious crowding and unsafe kids running under climbers and the place is amazing--if overpriced.
Hi John,I am sorry you had that experience at Rogue Rock Gym. When you were here today our Youth Program was just starting and playing a short game in the bouldering area. The instructors working with the group had decided that the bouldering space was mostly empty and they could get away with having a 10 minute game of "climbing capture the flag." I was here myself and I agree it was loud and distracting and looked unsafe. I decided to give my staff the leeway to run the game knowing it wouldn't last more then 10 minutes. After the game my staff reigned the kids in and they moved on with climbing activities quietly. We had 3 staff working with a group of 12 kids and 1:4 ratio is a recognized standard in the industry. They are very experienced and do the best they can with kids between the age of 7 and 14. I am sorry that the kids were annoying to you and I apologize on behalf of my staff for not recognizing that you were also using the bouldering space. We will try to do better about that and I have asked my staff to hold off on climbing games that involve running while we are busy. We hope you return to the gym, our programs are posted on our website calendar if you want to check to make sure there are no kids groups or birthday parties before you visit!Best Regards,Matt LambertGym Owner
Fantastic experience: I went yesterday for the first time and ended up joining before I left. I am new to town and actually very impressed with the quality of the rock gym here. Decently high routes, good setting, friendly and knowledgeable staff, and a killer workout room. Southern Oregon is very lucky to have this gym here and so am I!
Positive experience: I’m redoing my review after about a year. I will say, the lessons for lead classes here are good and well taught. The gym has smaller routes than other gyms I’ve been to, but they make that difference up with difficulty. These are definitely the hardest routes I’ve done. Sometimes they don’t make sense but they are always doable. The only downside is the neighborhood, just make sure you lock your car and keep your valuables with you. Unfortunately I’ve left my car unlocked accidentally and a wallet was stolen. However the staff did have a camera and was helpful with what should be done. Also if you see reviews about kids everywhere, they’ve gotten a handle on that now. The kids are better behaved and are usually just doing their own section of the gym instead of running all about. So I definitely recommend this gym.
Hello, thank you for the feedback! Our routesetters climb outdoors regularly, locally and abroad. They base their ratings relative to the local outdoor standard. We find that most gyms rate their routes soft, while we try to maintain a standard that allows climbers to know what to expect when they go outdoors on real rock.We do have youth programs from 4-7pm Monday-Friday. We keep the group size limited to 15 kids with 3 instructors, and they do the best they can keeping the kids focused on respecting our members.Regards,MattGym Owner
Fantastic experience: Love this spot! I live in LA but travel up here to visit family, and I always stop into Rogue Rock Gym while I’m here. Bouldering is fun (and harder setting than my gym back home). The walls are also fun for sport/top rope, but I’m more of a boulderer so I rarely do the walls. I do love that they have the auto belays for solo climbing. Their gym area with work out equipment (weights, machines) is so big and well equipped, love getting a good sweat in there. My favorite added touch is the permanent slack line in the middle of the gym that anyone can use. They have bathrooms with showers btw! Highly recommend coming here and getting a day pass to enjoy the climbing & gym work out area!
Thank you! See ya next time!
Positive experience: Staff are nice and well informed.
Positive experience: Pretty fun place for all ages, wish they had a little bit more for younger kids though :)
Negative experience: TOO MUCH MONEY, WHY CANT WE PAY LIKE $7 OR $10 FOR ALL DAY AND NOT HAVE TO RENT ANYTHING ELSE?
Fantastic experience: I love this climbing gym. We have a family membership and take our kids climbing often.
Fantastic experience: It was awesome had a blast worker's are friendly and helpful
Fantastic experience: I would like to thank Rogue Rock Gym for an amazing experience. I made a reservation for 20 youth to climb for an evening. They took great care of us, made us feel welcome, had dedicated staff for our group, and made the experience fun for all. Thank you again and we will be coming back again.
Thank You Jeremy! We hope to see you back soon!
Fantastic experience: Amazing place! Best variety of climbing ever! Take the kids!
Fantastic experience: Great experience. I'll definitely be joining!
Fantastic experience: Definitely expensive to go all the time, but so fun!
Fantastic experience: Cleaned, well designed routes, great staff. Mix of belay, bouldering, and auto belays. Would recommend a stop!
Fantastic experience: This place was great. Clean. Lot's of options. My 8 year old loved it.
Fantastic experience: Great place to climb and good people
Fantastic experience: Great little gym! Super friendly. Good vibes.
Fantastic experience: Friendly service, quality equipment. The rock courses change periodically. It is quite expensive, but you definitely get what you pay for
Fantastic experience: Stopped in with my daughter. Had a great experience. The gym is well set up and organized. Great value for the cost. Highly recommend.
Fantastic experience: Amazing
Positive experience: This gym changes their routes pretty often and they have large garage doors to have great ventilation. They are not barefoot friendly which sucks for my climbing style, but I'll definitely be back. Matt the owner reached out to me after I screwed up and froze my account and forgot about it. Unfortunately I then proceeded to pay for a very long time without use because I didn't realize it. :p He was able to credit me for the time that the gym was completely closed during covid shutdowns. I originally gave them 1 star because I was irate about this policy and the lack of communication. I would still like them to change their communication so that this doesn't happen to anyone else, but I doubt they will. Because of that I have to remove 1 star.
Fantastic experience: Rogue Rock gym is a home away from home. It doesn't matter how long it's been since your last visit, you're welcomed in with open arms like family. Love the routes and people. 10/10 would recommend.
Fantastic experience: Best place to climb indoors. In the valley
Fantastic experience: The manager Dylan is really rad, super nice dude. I saw some reviews saying otherwise but I strongly disagree. The other employees, Gabe, Zenas, Peter, Gaur, Tyler, etc. Are all extremely friendly as well, I highly recommend this gym. Short walls are made up for with world class route setting, and the grading is very comparable to outdoor climbing. This is really awesome because true to grade gym climbing leads to safer outdoor climbing!
Fantastic experience: What a wonderful place to climb! Everyone should try Rogue Rock Gym at least once. They only hire the best staff, they are experienced, patient and kind, as well as having an amazing facility. I only have great things to say about this place!
Thank you Tina!
Fantastic experience: The staff is awesome, helpful and knowledgeable . my wife and I got memberships and this place has become a 4 days a week visit! Also great climbs and weight gym as well. The bouldering area has often updated and changing climbs of all difficulty levels. Cool spot for beginners or advanced climbers.
Fantastic experience: This place is absolutely incredible. Love to get here as many times per week as I can for some great routes and a solid workout
Fantastic experience: Excellent routes and workout equipment and the community of people who come and climb are just the best. Everyone is very encouraging and kind and laid back.
Fantastic experience: I rarely even rock climb here, I go for the other part of the gym. They have a legit setup for standard working out. Worth the dollars.
Thank you Patrick! We are very excited about our new gym. Glad people are enjoying and using it! See you soon!MattGym Owner
Positive experience: It’s Dylan the manager was a little rude.
Fantastic experience: Great staff who keep a very clean facility. Tons of bouldering problems that get switched up regularly. A few autobelays and several walls with top rope and lead climbing.
Fantastic experience: Amazing climbing center. Good prices and great people. Since only wish I lived closer! Great for all ages.
Fantastic experience: Great bouldering area. Very friendly staff. Little gem of a climbing gym!
Fantastic experience: I have to share an experience I had at the Rogue Rock Gym today. My 8-year old son was there on a field trip today, and had reservations about climbing. He had a wonderful time climbing the walls with the harness attached, and decided to venture onto the free-form climbing rock in the center. He had fun climbing that as well. However, fear struck him hard when he got to the top (please don't mistake this for being a scary rock, or scary thing to climb - it is very manageable). The reason I am writing this review, is to show extreme praise for the staff at Rogue Rock Gym, specifically Dylan and Ian. I ended up going to the gym because my son would not come down, and was very scared. All told, he resisted for an hour, but Dylan was extremely patient, compassionate, and talked my son through the entire process. Eventually, he even carried him down safely off of the climbing rock. Dylan and Ian even demonstrated what the process would look like for my son. Dylan went above and beyond the call of duty, and I am extremely grateful for his patience and taking care of this particularly difficult client :-) Thank you!
Hi Dustin,Thank you for the acknowledgment! I will share this with my staff. I’m really sorry that your son had a scary experience and I hope it doesn’t deter him from climbing in the future. Over the last 15 years we have had a few epics with kids freezing on top of the boulder, so I hope he isn’t too hard on himself about it. It happens. I consider myself and the Rogue climbing community to be very lucky to have the experienced and knowledgeable staff that we have. They really take pride in providing great customer service. Your comment means a lot to us, thank you very much! Matt Lambert ~Gym Owner
Fantastic experience: Great vibe at this gym. We were traveling and hit em up for the day. Staff and climbers were all really cool. We'll be back!
Fantastic experience: So much fun and a great workout. The facility is clean and there are climbs labeled clearly for all skill levels. They offer belaying courses, to get certified, which I intend to do in the next year. For now, we've had a few events there for kid birthdays and those have all gone well both when we've rented the space to have cake and just showing up as a group for a few hours of climbing. The prices are reasonable for the cleanliness (it's extremely clean) and for how many people are climbing at once, which can vary but hasn't ever been too bad. We plan to get a Family membership in a few years when our girls are a little older and we can all use it together.
Fantastic experience: Great bouldering area. Very friendly staff. Little gem of a climbing gym!
Fantastic experience: Great climbing gym! I've only bouldered there, and the problems are good quality and varied. Fun place!
Fantastic experience: Super clean and very nice staff very helpful with all your qustions
Fantastic experience: Awesome gym! The staff are nice and very helpful. Their belay class is great; the instructors are very informative, open to questions, and give lots of time to learn hands on. A++!
Fantastic experience: Great place good staff fun for all ages
Fantastic experience: Kickbacks spot to get a good workout. Ww love coming here for a different date idea. Kids love it too!
Fantastic experience: Took our son here for a birthday climbing session with mom and dad. Great fun with the auto belay.
Fantastic experience: An incredible place to climb. Some of the most meaningful routes I have been on. Well set up and friendly staff.
Fantastic experience: Heaven on Earth. Knowledgeable staff, family friendly environment, and clean facility.
Fantastic experience: Great atmosphere, challenging routes and a heavy bag? Stoked!
Fantastic experience: Best atmosphere. Friendly, genuinely excellent people. Small space, but the setters make up for it with the highest quality routes. The routes are super fun and creative. They attempt to replicate outdoor climbing grades. The routes can be hard but they push you to improve. This gym kicks ass
Fantastic experience: Rogue Rock Gym fosters a beautiful climbing community that feels more like family in the Rogue Valley. The staff and the climbers are incredible people who are always willing to share whatever info/knowledge they have. Great place, incredible people!
Thank you Chad!
Positive experience: It's a fun place to climb and get exercise on your free time! However, the rates for day passes and gear aren't very affordable!
Fantastic experience: A fantastic gym filled with friendly members, helpful staff and wonderful routes.
Fantastic experience: Great staff, friendly members and a good family atmosphere. Recently updated warm up treadmill, auto-belays and regular route refreshes.
Fantastic experience: I love this place it is a real joy to just climb to your hearts desire
Fantastic experience: Great staff, always setting new routes, very friendly and welcoming vibe.
Fantastic experience: First time visit today. AWESOME! Friendly staff, clean environment, not crowded, not too expensive...this place has it all and we WILL be coming back! 60 routes, I would guess? Bouldering, top-rope, lead-climb... Super, super kid friendly too!
Fantastic experience: I've climbed all over Europe and the US and have been to numerous climbing gyms. Rogue Rock gym is a little "gem". Lacking height the route setters make fun creative climbing and there are more auto belays than you would see in a typical gym. To my delight there is also a burly little finger crack and a nice cruiser hand crack. Competent friendly staff to boot. Cheers -Aaron
Thanks for stopping by Aaron! We try to make do with what wall space we've got and our routesetting team does a phenomenal job. We're glad you had fun and we hope to see you in the gym again!Cheers,Tyler SellGeneral Manager
Fantastic experience: Love this place. Had never climbed before and now I'm here at least 3 days a week.
Fantastic experience: Super stoked!
Negative experience: I've been to a few climbing gyms and this one is not bad at certain times. But just about every time I come here I can't get a climb in, there is no room to stretch, and there are about 50 kids under the age of ten all over all the equipment. It's basically a waste of my time when i show up and there are kids everywhere. It's not safe. I can't get on any equipment without waiting 30 minutes or being rude. There is a boulder in the middle and the kids are hanging out on top of it. The employees and parents aren't paying any attention. I just got a membership, because it was free for a month, but before that i would walk in and have to wait for an employee to notice me at the desk. Not a gym for anyone wanting to get a workout. If you want to bring your five year olds so you don't have to watch them, then this is the place for you. Seriously, the kids aren't even doing anything except crawling on everything. There are serious safety risks when little kids are running around with no notion of what's going on around them. Please get a handle on this. Have a kids night. But not everyday. In other climbing gyms there is an area for kids. And they are not allowed in the other areas for safety reasons. Oh, and all the routes are barely labeled. They are improperly rated. And sometimes you just have a picture of Bruce Lee instead of a rating. Colors on routes are not clear and often end up confusingly close to routes of the same color.
Hi Richard-I'm really sorry to hear you've had a negative experience at the Rogue Rock Gym. We've seen a huge growth of climbers in the last year and we're doing everything we can to keep up with them. I'd love to get some more feedback from you regarding how we can improve on how we managed kids in the gym. Would you please email me at [email protected]?After 11 years of operations trialing many, many different methods for taping and labeling routes we've come a long way. We've got some spiffy new route tags on the way that I think you'll like a lot. Some of our boulder problems require some Bruce Lee level trickiness. Since those often are so vastly different grades for different body types, the Bruce Lee grade was born. Hope that clears up any confusion you might have had.Hope to see you in the gym,Tyler SellGeneral Manager
Fantastic experience: The rogue rock gym is full of fun and helping staff and people I love spending me whole week there!!!
Fantastic experience: I love this place. I had never been climbing before and the staff was exceptionally helpful. They have a lot of auto belays, so you don't have to have a climbing partner to have a great time. I highly recommend it.
Fantastic experience: For the space the gym is excellent. Routes are color-coded by hold, not tape, and ratings are pretty close to what you'd see outside. It's nice to have autobelays when you're there by yourself but there's always somebody happy to give you a catch if you need.
Fantastic experience: Great routes and staff! And amazing community!
Fantastic experience: Awesome boldering, lots of auto belay, great routes, friendly staff, good music.
Fantastic experience: My 9 year old son has been climbing for about 6 months now. He is a very active boy with lots of energy. He loves climbing and is always excited to go. The team at the Rogue Rock gym is very patient and takes the time to teach him and explain if he needs to correct his behavior. The gym has a very welcoming environment with a very knowledgable staff. My son is rapidly improving his skills and strength. This sport challenges him both mentally and physically and is a very positive atmosphere where he can learn and grow. We love the Rogue Rock Gym!!
Fantastic experience: This place is awesome
Fantastic experience: Great gym. Friendly staff
Fantastic experience: Creative routs! Nice people!
Positive experience: The rogue rock gym was a great place to have fun climbing during the summer.
Positive experience: Good service for sure. The bouldering was a little more difficult for their ratings and the top rope router were super creative.
Positive experience: Nice staff, wasn't overly crowded, but man I had to work hard on V2s and 3s, which is not normal. I go to various rock gyms to train while on the road for work. Kind of a bummer when the problems are this sandbagged.
