The Kraft Family YMCA, in Apex, offers youth programs, a gym, group fitness classes, workout center, indoor track and an outdoor pool.

Our comment from FitFit United States about Kraft Family YMCA:

The Kraft Family YMCA in Apex is known for its friendly and helpful staff, creating a welcoming environment for families. Users appreciate the great amenities including an outdoor pool, extensive equipment, and various fitness classes. Many families have enjoyed positive experiences with children's programs and camps, highlighting the community atmosphere and commitment to family activities. The center is well-maintained, offering clean facilities and a variety of workout options.

However, there are some concerns from visitors regarding overcrowding and management issues. Some members have reported a lack of communication regarding facility closures and maintenance problems, such as equipment safety and bathroom cleanliness. A few users also expressed disappointment with staff interactions and reported feelings of exclusion. While many love the facility, some believe it could benefit from better staffing and management to address these concerns.

Overall, the Kraft Family YMCA remains a popular choice among families looking for a supportive and active community, despite some areas that need improvement.

Positive experience: Very friendly and helpful staff, good amenities. Only reason it's not 5 stars is because it's a bit pricey. I wish they had a family package that would save your household a little.

Fantastic experience: Love the family atmosphere and everything about the Kraft YMCA- Great equipment and friendly employees. Would highly recommend.

Negative experience: I am disgusted with the way the YMCA treated my family. I have a disabled child they were accommodating in the toddler room without issue until one day out of nowhere they said they would no longer be able to accommodate him in the same way and until I come in for a meeting my son is banned from all kidzones across the triangle. I was floored at the aggressive action that seemingly came from nowhere. When I asked for a reason why they were banning my child out of nowhere they (Christa Hassler and Angie Fields) were unable to give me a specific reason. I eventually cancelled my membership because of the complete lack of ability to see how rude they were being. But I suspect they are happy to have pushed me out. Our family was clearly an inconvenience to them. They act inclusive but are not. So disappointing.

Negative experience: Send Your Child to the Kraft YMCA and Risk Your Child’s Safety and Wellbeing: The Kraft YMCA is operated by poor leadership and has inadequately trained staff. Per YMCA policy, families are not notified when an assault has occurred unless there is need to know. Its leadership promotes secrecy and not transparency. Parents are not properly informed of incidents. In fact, all who are at risk of harm have should receive a general notification when an act of violence or sexual assault has occurred on site. How else can the community of parents make an informed decisions about what’s in the best interests of their children. Families whom they must inform receive late notice if any at all. Send your children to the Kraft YMCA and risk your child being assaulted or worse because in the words of YMCA Vice President of Operations Forrest Perry, the YMCA is not responsible for human behavior, actions of its staff or other patrons. Additionally, leadership states children are responsible for reporting risky behavior to its staff and its policies are not without imperfection and therefore will not be changed (required Board approval). The truth is leadership is simply not willing to implement real change and improvement here. There is something really wrong and flawed with only caring about maintaining reputation at the expense and to the detriment of any child. Our family is saddened by the complete failure of the leadership at the YMCA to take the wellbeing of each child seriously. We have lost all faith and trust in the YMCA being a safe place for our children.

Fantastic experience: Friendliest staff of all the Y's I've been to in the area. Great facilities, tons of free-weights and cardio equipment. Never too busy that I have to wait on my next exercise. Pool is very nice, and the list of other amenities is huge! Love being a part of this gym/community

Fantastic experience: The Kraft YMCA is really awesome. All the people, programs, and facilities are amazing. We love coming to the pool all summer. What a good slide!

Negative experience: The staff is helpful and friendly, but the facility is not managed very well. Yesterday I drove in to work out. There was a paper sign in the parking lot that the facility was closed see the website for details. There was no information yesterday or today on the website. Today I called 5 times, no answer or message explaining the situation. On the 6th try someone answered and said the were not open. I told her about communication and she said people were notified by email. They were not. I told her this was very poorly communicated. There are other situations such as the stretch machine not having a strap, which is a major safety problem (taken out during COVID, but never put back?) Fitness manager not returning calls, and the main women's bathroom downstairs was closed for a month due to retiling. That is a long time first of all to put up tile, and secondly they tiled over the soap dispenser and hose hook in the handicap restroom. The showers in general are much smaller than other are YMCAs and they spray past the plastic curtain into the corridor. I don't know if management does not know, or just does not have the resources to do better.

Negative experience: For a Christian organization, shocking lack of modesty or rules for attire. Underage girls wear extremely revealing/tight/short clothes. Not appropriate for young girls, in a family atmosphere, or for a Christian organization.

Fantastic experience: Our family has had a fantastic experience with this YMCA location. This facility is clean and well maintained and the staff are always super friendly snd helpful. We have also had a great experience with the Kraft’s track out camps. The track out camp staff makes sure that the environment is positive, uplifting no, encouraging, and lighthearted. My kids always have a fantastic time.

Fantastic experience: I think it’s a good value if you’re looking for just a basic gym. The price is much better than other places I’ve shopped around at, you also get a discount if you’re in a certain age group. The equipment is decent from what I’ve used and the facilities are generally clean. Also the staff have been very friendly to me. The only downside I’ve majorly noticed, as is common in any public gym, is high schoolers crowding in the open gym area just to do whatever it is they do, but what can you do about that? Also some people are creeps, but again, what can you do?

Fantastic experience: Had a gentle yoga class. It was my first time taking yoga, and instructor did well. I enjoyed it.

Bmdowns 1 year ago

Positive experience: Overall good YMCA but the courts are so dusty, I have injured myself multiple times playing basketball (wearing correct attire for basketball). Very annoying but the people and staff are mostly nice and down to earth. The most annoying thing is the schedule changes and how overpopulated it is. Other than the courts I would give the gym a 4.5 but the courts are a 2 star.

elbee foster (elbee) 1 year ago

Negative experience: Been at the Y for decades and this is the most annoying branch. No more greetings when you check in at the desk. The staffers are too busy talking to one another. Then there's people sitting on the workout equipment playing with their cellphones and/or doing multiple sets while someone else is obviously waiting, and then there's attitude when asked if you can work in: "No, I have five sets left." And there are the obnoxious people talking loudly on their cell phones like they're in their living rooms. The staff is either nowhere to be found or is disinterested, often staring at their own cell phones and not interacting with patrons. Folks coming in from work for a quick workout do not have time or patience for this. What happened to the Y sense of community?

Fantastic experience: Great establishment, great amenities, all the things, but could be a lot larger for the amounts of people. Population is growing very fast.

Fantastic experience: Our family have been regulars at the YMCA, and our overall experience has been fantastic. My wife and I are fans of the yoga classes, and our son eagerly looks forward to the Kidzone activities. What inspired me to share this review was the awesome response I received after providing online feedback regarding a recent update. Dawn and her team promptly reached out via email and followed up with a thoughtful phone call, ensuring that my concerns were heard. I highly recommend this location to anyone seeking a positive and responsive community environment.

Fantastic experience: Love triangle ymca. Get to go wherever we want. Lots of free classes to choose from. Have 3 ymcas within 15 min of the house

Brent Winston 1 year ago

Positive experience: The only bad thing is the cramped space of the free weight area. When college/high school aged students are home, it gets way too crowded. Otherwise, it’s a great facility.

Melissa Craig 1 year ago

Positive experience: We visit this Y location on the regular, me and my kids. However, I regularly receive unfriendly interactions from the members here. Especially, on the track. I am of a multicultural nationality, and I look different from most people there. But on the track, the members young and old, will not share the track with me. I am very aware of this disparity and make sure to be kind to everyone. But the members do not seem to follow the YMCA's mission to be kind in turn. I love that this gym has a variety of equipment, but they definitely lack diversity in their members. The saddest part is that I am not the only one that notices this difference, my kids notice it too. I do very much like the facilities crew though. They are extremely friendly to my entire family!

Positive experience: My go-to place for a workout in the area. It can be a little hard to use equipment or weights during the busier hours and they seem to have less cardio equipment than some other Ys. Sauna, outdoor pool, and playground are awesome.

Christopher Winkler 1 year ago

Fantastic experience: Awesome Y location with like-new gym, tons of fitness programs like Zumba and body pump, basketball courts, kids zone and kids programs galore, outdoor pool, and so much more. The Kraft location seems particularly well-maintained when compared to the other Y locations in the area. Big fan of the gym which has pretty much all the equipment you could want and never gets too crowded, even on a weekend morning.

Larry Heller 1 year ago

Fantastic experience: Great workout facility, all weight machines recently replaced, outdoor swimming pool, classes, helpful and friendly staff - what's not to like? Well the A/C doesn't work well on the end of the Wellness Center near the basketball courts, and speaking of those courts, sometimes they get extremely noisy, and the place gets crowded at times, but those are minor quibbles - overall an A+ experience.

Ryan Orischak 1 year ago

Negative experience: Although the updated equipment is nice and was long overdue, it doesn’t save from the fact that this location is grossly overcrowded. As the area continues to grow in population, YMCA either needs to add an addition to this location or build a new overflow location nearby. The only time this gym is remotely tolerable is during very off hours, like right before closing. Also, staff does nothing to keep people off the track. It feels perilous to walk/run around as people are constantly falling into it from the boxing area or sitting around the edges stretching out their legs.

Irit Meron 1 year ago

Negative experience: I mainly joined the Y for the water aerobics. I live less than 5 minutes away from this branch (Kraft), unfortunately they have outdoor pool only and offer only 3 classes a week at the 7:00am, 7:45 pm, 8am. None are working for me. So, I’m forced to travel to A.E Finally in Raleigh about 40 minutes drive in a good day where they offer 10 classes a week at different hours the earliest is at 9am. So far no one from Kraft responded to my messages/requests on their website. This is so disappointing, and such a shame.

Veric G 1 year ago

Fantastic experience: It's a Y, so ... It's cool. Thankfully I'm flexible, so I can go when there aren't many folks there ... I must say, their recent "upgrade" of equipment: decreased free weight area and replaced easy to use machines with one you have to screw around with loading and unloading weights. But... Hopefully they had evidence based reasons for this decision. Thank you

Fantastic experience: This YMCA is very impressive! We recently got a family membership and everyone we encountered was extremely polite, encouraging, and friendly. The childcare area is well-staffed and the employees there are very understanding and attentive. The Y building itself is clean and organized. It's a lot bigger and has much more to offer than any Y I've been to in the past.

Positive experience: When I started going it was a very good experience, soon after it opened in 2008. Very helpful staff. Good class selection, equipment options. Very nice facility. Then got more and more crowded... exercise classes very full, equipment area very crowded, I ended up giving up, and unjoined. Cannot speak to family programs, just the exercise side. Parking indicated lots of use, a good sign the y is needed. Never quite made it to use the outdoor pool. Had very poor experience at my previous gym membership on Regency, needed yr round lap and exercise swim. Been a few years so cannot speak on more recent years like 2020-2022. Great idea and location for the community, well used indicating it is needed... for me just got too packed for using the facility well for exercise. Definitely, tho, check it out for yourself!

Fantastic experience: Love this place for their great service. Every morning you get greeted with smile by Scot and John. These folks make you feel welcomed. I travel 19 miles and pass many gym locations for the service and steam room. Personal trainers are very professional and knowledgable also. I have been working with Kennie Apilli (personal trainer) and learned a lot of tricks. With working from home and spending 12 hours in front of computer, I got good tips for home workout. He always backs up his workout with science. Thank you YMCA for having awesome team here

Jeff 3 years ago

Positive experience: Excellent club with just about all weights, machines, and implements you might need to workout. Would give it five stars but it is really starting to show its age. Equipment is showing signs of wear and bench surfaces, for example, are mostly torn or cracked. Nice place overall though.

Fantastic experience: Though the appearance of the facility looks bit dated, it is a well maintained facility. The staffs are courteous. There are so many group class options here. Negative experience: The music coming from the Y is way too loud. I have called about it so many times. They just do what they want to do.

Sweetpea Pumpkin 3 years ago

Negative experience: I live behind the YMCA. Turn down the music! 5:50am and the thump thump of loud music is coming from the Y wakes me up again. We have called so many times. No policy for instructors to follow has ever been implemented. The phone staff doesn’t relay these complaints to senior staff. So reviews are all I have to be heard. Maybe. Hopefully.

Fantastic experience: My almost seven year old daughter and I have been really enjoying going to the pool for swimming lessons, playing, and using the water slide. There are fewer people there than usual, chairs are arranged in groups of 2 or 3 set six feet apart, there are wipes to use on the chairs before you leave and signs to put on them so the attendants know they are ready to be sprayed and wiped. Yet, while I'm there I feel like life is at least partially back to normal.

Fantastic experience: Friendly staff, clean spaces, and many class options. I’ve not ever been a “class” person, but I took one with a friend of mine recently, and I am hooked! The class leaders are encouraging, high energy, and give clear directions so you can get through the workout. I really don’t know how they do the workout and talk at the same time, but I really enjoy the classes! Kid care is great, too. I lover security checking in and out. Overall this Y has everything my family and I need in a gym!

Debbie Taggart 5 years ago

Negative experience: This place is overcrowded all the time. They need to think about cutting back membership or something because every time I go I seem to always be waiting for a piece of equipment to open up.

Monica Noriega 5 years ago

Positive experience: Nice staff, Good service in Day Care by Christie and Nidia, Clean Installation, Donna and Jo at the front desk really kind and answer all your questions with patience. I like Kraft YMCA

Aubrey 5 years ago

Negative experience: Way way wayyyyy too crowded. Only went twice and couldn’t get treadmill either time. No one has any idea what is going on. Locker room is old. Showers are nasty.

Antonio Garcia 5 years ago

Positive experience: Their is a huge problem with communication in this place. You only get a letter from the school if you loose. I called main office "YMCA" and they said that the branch should had sent an email or contact us by phone to register out daughter to the camp since she was part of the Y Learning program. The program is good don't get me wrong.

Jenna White 5 years ago

Positive experience: My daughter went to track out there for 5 years - we loved the program. As far as the gym itself - it's become so over crowded. I think they increased the joining fee to deter people from joining.

Negative experience: Second time in a month or so that the AC has been out on the weekend. With all the equipment being upstairs it's a little ridiculous.

Matt E Ventura Bruer 6 years ago

Negative experience: I'm a new mom looking for friends/group activities so I went here to see what they had, I show up 20 minutes before closing time only to be told by the front desk worker, "I just turned off my computer..." Seriously? It's hard being a new mom without a support group and I came to Kraft hoping to find that. Thanks for not even giving me the time of day when it's literally your job.

Ian Kay 6 years ago

Negative experience: Like most other Y's, this is a large, overcrowded club with below average trainers and a corporate feel. Maybe it's great for the little kids, I don't know. They charge start-up fees (even though there are no start-up costs) and insist upon charging for the month after you cancel if you quit 14 days before the charge date instead of the requisite 15. Business before people, apparently, even at the Kraft YMCA.

Forrest Stroud 6 years ago

Positive experience: Great YMCA facility with a really nice outdoor pool and (small) soccer fields to go along with a great workout are indoors as well. The only drawback is there isn't an indoor pool, so swimming is only available at this Y a few months out of the year. On the positive side, they have two tires and a TRX system out back that provide a great workout, as well as some outdoor workout classes that utilize this equipment.

Anthony Holman 6 years ago

Negative experience: This review is specifically for the kids summer camp, Camp Crossroads. People are nice, facilities are good with one Glaring exception--they have NO bathrooms outside the main building; not even a porta potty. So the kids walk several minutes to the fishing/archery/BB Gun area or the wooded area out back where they are essentially trapped until the end of the session. There isn't enough staff to escort kids back to the building to go to the bathroom, so they simply don't bother. Our daughter had multiple accidents during the course of the summer--both kinds. I attempted to talk to the staff director and left increasingly hateful messages on multiple occasions and no one ever bothered to call me back. Needless to say, we won't be back. If your kid(s) are old enough to hold it for a few hours on command, then this looks like a decent place. If, however, you have younger kids do yourself and their self esteem a favor and look elsewhere. If I had known our 7-year-old would not have gone here.

Negative experience: Staff is terrible the manager is horrible dose not help they are mean DO NOT GO HERE

Micah Brown 7 years ago

Negative experience: This is the worst YMCA I've ever been to. In fact, it's the worst gym I've ever been to. I wish I could give it less than a star. My family and I went there today to play some basketball. It was open gym and a group of guys were playing full court. An employee by the name of, Stephen, said that he would tell them to play half court so that we can play. We didn't want to make them do that, so we waited. After the 3rd game was up, we took our turn on half of the court to play. A few minutes into our game they started playing full court right on top of us. Not only did they throw my ball away, but they threatened to kick me "a**" and told me to step outside. After being threatened multiple times, for doing what we were allowed to during open gym, "play basketball," even after we waited our turn, I had had enough. I asked Stephen, the employee, to get there manager. The manager came in and did a good job defusing the situation; however, he made me and my family get off the court and plowed them to play a new game. After confirming this was open gym time for all to play, he agreed and confirmed, but did nothing about it. After telling him I was threatened, he did NOTHING about it. He didn't even ask for my name or even cared about my safety. This was the MANAGER. Marco Ramirez. All he did was apologize, yet he completely compromised my family's membership rights and did nothing when we were threatened. Upon leaving, another lady was complaining about the same thing, concerned for the safety of her and her young child who just wanted to play basketball. Not only will I not return toga location, but I will be contacting Betsy Peters, and I hope she's reading this right now. I have never seen a situation held so poorly from upper management in my life. I will never suggest this place to anyone and will give the most honest feed back I can on every social media platform so that families will know that this establishment is not a safe place for their families. My family is pulling there membership and my wife and I will never become members.
