Our comment from FitFit United States about Crunch Fitness - Ann Arbor:
Crunch Fitness in Ann Arbor is a well-equipped gym that offers a friendly and clean environment for fitness enthusiasts. Many users appreciate the variety of equipment available, which caters to casual gym-goers and dedicated athletes alike. The staff, particularly personal trainers like Austin and Grace, are often praised for their professionalism and supportive attitudes.
Some of the highlights of this gym include:
- Great location with easy access to various amenities.
- Friendly and helpful staff, with several trainers noted for their exceptional support.
- Cleanliness, especially in comparison to other gyms.
- Affordable membership plans with great value.
- A variety of classes, especially HIIT, which users rave about.
However, the gym does face some challenges:
- Reports of broken equipment and slow maintenance response times.
- Occasional lack of cleanliness in locker rooms and other common areas.
- Issues with the front desk staff being unavailable during certain hours.
- Crowding during peak hours, making access to equipment difficult.
Overall, Crunch Fitness Ann Arbor provides a positive environment for workouts with room for improvement in maintenance and service responsiveness.
Crunch Fitness - Ann Arbor: Opinions

Negative experience: I do not recommend getting membership here. Staff is never at the front desk and is not helpful. The manager TJ is also quite rude and allows his employees to treat guests with disrespect. Would rather drive extra 15 mins to go to Ypsi location then this one.
Fantastic experience: Great gym, amazing staff
Fantastic experience: In town for work. Great gym, clean and friendly staff. I recommend trying this place out. Good amount of Equipment I had a great workout. This is my new ann arbor gym.
Fantastic experience: Love the HIIT Classes!
Negative experience: There no one at the Front desk at night time. We walked all around the gym couldn’t find the employee at the front desk so we had to get out I.D. Crunch do better. Have your staff not leave the front desk!!!
Negative experience: This place is a complete marketing scam. If you want to sign up for one year, they advertise a rate of $10 per month. Then they add a $75 enrollment fee plus a $60 annual fee, which they sneakily charge after 3 months so that you don't see it when signing up. That averages out $21 a month for one year. Ok fine... I'll sign up for peak since it's only a little more and there's no enrollment fee -- I can also use the gym in my hometown when I travel... nope. Turns out your membership doesn't work for signature or select locations. Try finding a list of where those are... intentionally obscured. So you decide okay screw it, I'll sign up for the basic plan anyways and figure something else out when I travel. To create an account, you are REQUIRED to sign up for marketing emails... is that even legal? cf. CAN-SPAM Act of 2003. So you put in your designated email for online purchases... and then it requires you to put in your FULL BANK ACCOUNT details! Not just your credit card, but your actual bank account information. Is that also legal? Even sophisticated systems get hacked these days, so I have zero confidence in the cyber security of the same gym that hired some frat bro MBA marketing team to hustle you out of a couple hundred for a gym with machines that don't even work. Can't wait for the FTC to go after this kind of stuff.
Negative experience: Good gym for the average person. They just do nothing to improve it or maintain it. Cables are messed up and the attachments are old. They could use one initiation fee to buy a set of attachments on Amazon to replace the worn out attachments. But they don’t care.
Negative experience: my other review isn't showing up
Fantastic experience: Perfect location; I get to work out while I wait for an oil change.
Negative experience: Lets not forget this gym made people wear masks inside the sauna. Extremely dangerous in regards to health. Im very surprised nobody suffered cardiac injury
Negative experience: It smells terrible every time I go in the sauna & streaching room & the mirror has been broken for months. You can’t read the numbers on many of the stair master machines, and the water tastes gross + there is rust on the inside of the drinking fountains. The spray tans are good but the moisture and prep hasn’t worked in months. Raise the price of memberships and get a good cleaning crew in here. I’m only here for the spray tans at this point, definitely thinking about transferring to to a cleaner gym. The location is what has kept me here. Previous review: Great atmosphere! Everyone is so friendly (:
Negative experience: Workers suck and can’t do their job correctly
Positive experience: Smaller than ypsilanti but it's a lot cooler because they turn on the a/c. They only have 2 bench presses and 2 incline bench presses whereas ypsilanti has 4 of each.
Fantastic experience: Best gym in Ann Arbor in my opinion. The only downside is there’s 2 flat bench presses to they are almost always taken… for a while by the same few groups of regulars. Aside from that, they have tons of Olympic weight racks and an artificial turf area that’s great for other types of workouts. The staff was always friendly and helpful too.
Negative experience: This place opens when it wants I drive 2 hours to work where I am from and I choose to stay in Ann Arbor to live close to work and now the nearest gym near me is this place and Saturday mornings it says 6 or 7 am I don’t even leave reviews but that’s not good business either change the hours or say something to the general public
Positive experience: Two good things going for this location. One is brandon. And the other is Haden who is incredibly pleasant and directs the front desk and sign me up. Took his time and answered all questions. I have a couple of concerns but I'm going to keep them to myself. Why? Retaliation.
Negative experience: Two weeks ago I had a problem with my membership. A girl with curly hair was super rude and made me leave the gym. I understand the problem but she should be nicer to customers.
Positive experience: Good chain gym. A little on the small side, but a solid amount of weight and equipment to satisfy the casual gym goer. 4/5 is based on the size of the gym and equipment that was down in need of repair. Good location, will train here again.
Negative experience: The Saturday staff is never on time. Pathetic.
Hi Zach, thank you for your review. We are aware that our Ann Arbor Saturday opener had a 15 minute delay on 2/17 it was addressed internally. From our records, we only show this delayed open on 2/17, so if you have other information regarding this please email the General Manager of Ann Arbor at [email protected]. Thank you!
Negative experience: I was planning to join Crush fitness and showed up last week. In that process, I came to know that they need bank account and routing information along with credit card details. it's the form that you will sign that says "I give the gym permission to take money from my bank account whenever they feel like it". It is not customer first attitude. It is grabbing “customer’s money first” attitude. Credit card authorization also allow company to bill and get money for the service. So why bank account details with routing number? I didn’t enroll myself as I didn’t like this policy. In the era of so many cyber securities hacking concern, nobody would want to see their bank details in dark web. That’s why credit cards are for. AVOID this gym.
Hi Bhaswar! Thank you for your review. We ask for the EFT information for recurring billing to protect you from account disruption. We previously only required a debit card, however we've noticed over the years that debit cards get lost/stolen/expired, and so we prefer EFT information on file as a way to avoid service disruption/late fees for you. EFT is the most efficient way for membership billing, we recognized that, so we created the option to have EFT on file. That said, we encourage EFT information on file, but it's not mandatory as part of getting a membership. If you have further questions, please reach out to the General Manager of Ann Arbor at [email protected].
Negative experience: may not be the best gym to workout with a friend at!! yesterday i was approached by trainers(?) ianya(? no name tag) and Abby during the first exercise of my workout while alternating sets with my friend. After “witnessing” us switching weights and me asking my friend a question about if i was using proper form, Ianya and her coworker somehow found the audacity to approach us and accuse us of using their facility for personal training. I had asked my friend one question before my first set since i’d never used a barbell specifically for the type of squat she wanted to do. she demonstrated one more for me and for the rest of our sets we were mostly on our phones or in the locker room while the other was going. She wasn’t around or watching anywhere near closely enough to provide “personal training.” they asked us our names and proceeded to gesture towards me, “we aren’t saying that you are, we’re just saying it LOOKS LIKE there might be some personal training going on here and we don’t allow that.” we quickly stated that that wasn’t the case and continued our workout. This friend and i have been working out here together at LEAST 2 days almost every week this year and these employees have deterred me from continuing this. My friend and i are visibly similar in age and physique, but i am smaller and less built. I felt extremely singled out because of my appearance and was demotivated for the rest of my workout. i hate to pull this card but the hurt was real, i work hard to mask the underdevelopment that being malnourished growing up caused my body, and even harder to overcome the insecurities surrounding it. but i’m also an athlete, so it’s difficult yet imperative for me to find a gym where i don’t feel judged for being smaller and still wanting to be stronger. i cant say how comfortable i’ll be returning to this location when their staff has no problem or repercussion for confronting and making such implicative accusations against customers before even checking to see if they have a membership. personal training does not involve two people working out together and the employees who confronted my friend and i know that, but they still chose to approach us and make comments based off the way that i look. i cant say i have any issue with this location outside of these almost discriminative staff members, but it will definitely be hard to return :(
Hi Anna, thank you for your feedback. There are several things we watch for before approaching someone about outside personal training: demonstrating, cueing, and equal effort from both parties. The Ann Arbor General Manager approached only after all three of these markers/indicators were met. Our Ann Arbor leadership's recounting of this incident aligns with your personal recount that you were not accused of outside personal training, but you were advised that it looked like personal training and you were reminded that it is against our policies & then you were allowed to continue your workout as normal. We want you to understand that this is never a comfortable conversation for anybody, and there's no way for us to really know if it's personal training, so our approach to situations like this is to never be accusatory, but rather just a gentle reminder to our members that it's not allowed. It sounds like this practice was adhered to.After speaking with the staff at Ann Arbor, it is clear that their decision to approach was based soley off of the markers of outside personal training and had nothing to do with a difference in physiques or size. Abbey & Ianna are both vocal advocates for body positivity and inclusivity, and they would never want to make you feel like you were singled out because of your physique. That said, whether the intent was there or not, we are not going to invalidate the way you feel and we apologize that the interaction left you feeling this way. Please let us know if you have any other concerns at [email protected]
Negative experience: Sauna broken for months.
Hi Erik! The sauna has been restored. We apologize for the delay, all four of our suppliers were on back order for the part we needed. Thank you for your review!
Negative experience: Dirty all the time I paid for premium membership and sauna at the ann arbor and Ypsilanti are always broken only reason I go to gym be better off canceling membership n workout at my home gym * update going on 2 months now still no working sauna so why am I paying a Maintenance fee for gotta do better now I have to drive to Ypsilanti or wait until tomorrow to workout in toledo which is also a better gym and sauna definitely cleaner *no longer will be apart of this gym and now the Ypsilanti sauna is broken canceled them won't get my hard earned money for something I can't use if you were smart do the same find somewhere else to spend your money
Negative experience: Jesus, this place is run by a couple of goofballs. Cant do HIIT when you get off work because the zumba class in the group fitness room starts at 5:30 AND a strength class in the hiit zone so essentially half of the gym isnt available to you if you're a paying member at the exact times when most people would want to use them (after a 9-5). The sauna is down 90% of the time, the showers have mold on the ceiling. It would be nice to have a place to work out and locker rooms that wont give you ringworm for the membership i pay for. Absolute clown management.
Hi Josh! Thank you for your review. The sauna has been restored & the men's room has been addressed! Regarding the Group Fitness classes, Paulina, our Group Fitness Coordinator, is always open to suggestions & insight! Email her at [email protected]!
Fantastic experience: This is a review for my trainer Shane T! I have been going to Crunch Fitness on Oak Valley for about 6 months and training with Shane for about 4 months. I initially was only planning to go for 3 months since I am on a career sabbatical. But I just loved his positive energy mixed with being a good listener and empathy, that I just figured out a way to get another 3 months. He challenges me and I leave our workouts energized and upbeat. The facilities is enough for the price you may. I do not go during peak hours so I cannot speak about some of the other comments regarding the doors not opened in time. The women's locker are well kept and I love the sauna after every workout. Its a great location with Target and Meijers and Tsai Grocery nearby for your everyday needs after a workout!
Thanks for the kind review, Kat! We love Shane, too! He brings such a positive energy to the club!
Fantastic experience: A really great facility for the price.
Negative experience: Would not honor the 3 day trial. Seems like they don’t want to get any new members.
Negative experience: Shady business practices making it impossible to cancel membership. Can’t cancel online, when you go into the store, they tell you to email someone. It’s like you aren’t allowed to cancel your membership. They keep charging our account and we are unable to cancel. They won’t respond to emails either.
Negative experience: It's 5:45 am on a cold winter Wednesday. Gym was supposed to open @5. Doors locked no note. Haven't seen any "we're hiring" signs so would be surprised if it's a staffing issue. C'mon homies I need an am lift rn. smh. Will wait here until 6 am incase hours simply changed without notice. Also plz fix yer stuff--its been months and you're too new to be a fixer upper. Open to changing this review when those two issues are addressed
Fantastic experience: Wow ..what a great place!
Fantastic experience: Great
Positive experience: Locker and shower area very filthy.
Positive experience: Clean the shower area on a regular basis please!
Fantastic experience: Nice staff and very clean Love it
Fantastic experience: Great staff, plenty of space and equipment
Thank you for your review! Welcome to our Crunch family. Dan Jett
Negative experience: Sauna and showers need to be cleaned
Fantastic experience: Abbey is awesome! Lovely girl! Motivating trainer! Great friend!
Fantastic experience: Pretty clean and not super busy most of the time. Lost many things and always had them given to the front.
Hello Kyle,Thank you for your review and we are super psyched that you are enjoying your time with Crunch in Ann Arbor! If you need anything from us (including our lost and found!) please don't hesitate to reach out to club staff and management! In Health,The Crunch Team
Fantastic experience: Blake was fabulous helping me become a new member!!
Fantastic experience: Love the trainers ( especially Abby!) and the classes!
Fantastic experience: Great gym! Outstanding professionalism from management.
Fantastic experience: I have been going there for 17 years and I enjoy
Positive experience: All and all, good friendly environment. Cancellation process needs some work.
Fantastic experience: Excellent value and several different exercise options.
Positive experience: Great..only downside it's smaller then Ypsi
Positive experience: The only complaint I have is the Dirty men's Locker room other than that, I like the gym.
Positive experience: Not a bad gym, they Seem to have a hard time opening on time .
Fantastic experience: Love this gym, the membership is very very reasonable, the people at the desks, the trainers and even other members are friendly. It’s one of the best gyms if not the best gym around for sure.
Fantastic experience: Grace is a great coach and person, helping me get in shape while working through some knee issues.
Fantastic experience: Abbey Phillipson is an excellent trainer, especially for us older folks. Very knowledgeable & personable.
Positive experience: Need a state ID for trial? Wont take student ID. Absolutely ridiculous. I think if it is first time the barrier of entry should be easier because this is a lil bit extra to get through.
Hello Nam,Thanks for your review! I appreciate the visibility on Google to inform potential members of our guest policies. We make it extremely easy for people to try our club or take advantage of our Unlimited Guest amenities. We just ask that they bring with them a physical copy of their government-issued identification and while a state ID is acceptable, we also accept a driver's license, a passport, or essentially any official government-issued identification. The reason we do not take student ID is that it does not provide us with a birth date, and we must be sure of a guest's age as there is a minimum age to use our club.I admit I am a little bit curious, however, as while I appreciate not getting a 1-star review, the staff did go way above and beyond for you during your time here, and we would love to know how we can earn those other 2 stars! If you would like to chat, you can follow up with your email thread in which you were previously assisted! Thank you again!Best in health,The Crunch Team
Fantastic experience: Clean, well run operation with friendly staff and a good selection of equipment. The manager, Ianna, went above and beyond to help with transferring my membership when moving out of town. Will definitely be coming back here.
Hamza,Thank you for the kind words! Ianna makes it her mission to provide a great and seamless experience whether a member is leaving us, just getting started, and everything in between We are lucky to have her! We are glad you had a great experience here and enjoyed your time. Thank you for trusting us with your health and fitness, and will be here when you come back!Best in Health,The Crunch Team
Fantastic experience: Grace is an amazing Trainer!! She has a bright personality and always has a smile on her face!! I love my "Butt kicking sessions" with her!!!
Fantastic experience: Great gym! Professional staff, equipment is always cleaned, and broken items are fixed as soon as possible. Shout out to Austin Lamb for excellent personal training !
Fantastic experience: Shane T. is a great trainer. I explained what I wanted to get out of working with him and he has put together a great plan for me. He has revived my drive to get back to the gym.
Negative experience: The gym is small, often super packed, they don't enforce their rules for using a dead lift pad/squat rack. The staff are so so, don't recommend coming here. Switch to the ypsi location and so much happier there.
Hello,Thank you for your review, and taking the time to express your opinion about the club, and the staff.Regarding the content of the review, the staff, including myself, take the club very seriously and would love a chance to address your concerns and hopefully help other members, now and in the future, have a better experience. We like to keep our club open and accessible for all types of fitness goals, and all levels of experience, which is why we have rules surrounding the equipment. These rules are designed to make everyone feel welcome and make sure everybody can get an awesome workout in whenever they come into our facility. While the rules are in place, there are always unfortunately going to be outliers that may violate these. We do our best to keep that to a minimum and ask that you, or anybody reading this to please let staff or management know when they are being violated. It is a large club and while we would love a constant Birds Eye view of the place it is not entirely possible to see everything all at once. Please reach out to us at [email protected] if you’d like to go over this in more detail.Thank you,The Crunch Team
Positive experience: I wish the managers knew how hot it gets at peak hours.. There are times when it's over 80 and the heat is actually on. I understand in the mornings, it might be chilly for employees, but we constantly have to pester employees to make sure hvac is on auto or cool
Positive experience: Good gym, great sauna. I'm not much of a machine user, would be nice to have more flat benches - there's only two. Gets very busy 4-6 pm on weekdays
Negative experience: The business practices of this gym are unethical. Let me preface this by stating what the contract states, although please note that it is equivocal, and the gym will still try and twist it so use it against you. The contract agreement states that if you want to cancel a monthly membership, "you may terminate this Membership by providing 10 days' notice prior to the next bill date". Apparently this has to be done by email, although that's not listed in the contract. The contract states that "a cancellation that has been denied will be sent in writing back to Member along with reason of denial". The contract states that "the termination will be effective at the end of the Paid Period." The Paid Period is the days of membership that payment is received (i.e., if you pay for a month, the end of that month is the end of the paid period). Therefore, you cannot terminate unless you are requesting to cancel 10 days prior to your next bill date. If you do cancel 10 days prior to the next bill date, your membership is terminated at the end of that Paid Period. If you don't cancel 10 days prior to your next bill date, you will be billed at your next bill date, and the membership should be terminated at the end of that subsequent Paid Period. If the cancellation is denied, per the contract, Crunch is supposed to inform you in writing with reason of denial; however, they did not do this for me. First, I requested to transfer my monthly membership to a different location as I had moved. The instructions that were given to me by the Ann Arbor Crunch were to sign a document and everything would be transferred. These instructions were incomplete, and I later learned that the transfer never went through. I even emailed Ann Arbor Crunch asking about a charge for the transfer and they never mentioned to me that the transfer didn't go through. They answered my question and happily collected my monthly dues while I used the other gym. Then, I requested to cancel at the new location after using it for a few months. This was 10 days prior to my next bill cycle. However, they informed me that my home gym was still Ann Arbor and I would need to contact them. Nevertheless, I emailed the Ann Arbor gym and let them know that I had requested to cancel. They responded "I can take care of that for you. You have fulfilled your obligation as a month-to-month member. as a reminder: Per the Crunch agreement, there is a 10-day grace period between the date of the cancellation request and cancellation finalization, and your membership will expire on 12/10/21. Thank you for being a valued Crunch member!" Based on this information, I was under the assumption that my membership was cancelled and ended on 12/10. Also, at this point, they still never told me that my membership transfer didn't go through even though they could see I was using the other gym. Both gyms dropped the ball here, but the Ann Arbor Crunch blames me and the other gym for the incomplete transfer, while they just profited. A year later I got an email from a debt collector for over $200. I emailed Crunch Ann Arbor and was told that my membership never cancelled because I made the cancellation request with less than 10 days' notice of my next bill cycle, and when they tried charging me again for the next bill cycle on 12/7, they couldn't bill my card. I was never informed that I was "not providing 10 day's notice prior to the next bill date". I was never informed that I was going to be billed again on 12/7, and that my membership would expire a month later at the end of the Paid Period. Why would they me that my membership would expire on 12/10? Why would they tell me that my cancellation was being taken care of and that I fulfilled my obligations when they were planning on billing me again on 12/7? Where is my written notification that my cancellation was denied with a reason of denial?
Negative experience: I mean it's fine, way too small though. This is the 3rd week I've attempted to use one of the 2 benches they have and they're always being used. There's a fluorescent light above the Smith machine that is constantly blinking. So there's a health risk for photosensitive folks. There is a staff member who likes to leave the counter to flirt for close to an hour with a few of the guys who come in. It's a fine gym, but it's so small that it feels packed even in the slow times. Not a fan.
Fantastic experience: This Crunch Fitness is well maintained, clean, and overall a healthy and motivating environment to reach your fitness goals. The staff is incredibly friendly and helpful. Highly recommend for a drop in workout or full time membership!
Negative experience: Please update your hours of operation. It’s a Friday morning at 7 am and online and on the gym doors it says the gym should be open by 5 am, but the gym is obviously not open. Several cars parked in the lot and waited for a very long time (me included) and many ended up driving off. This is no way to run an established gym. My usual location in Farmington is never like this and I really hope y’all can update your hours
Negative experience: The general manager, Dan Sherman, would rather bribe people for fake reviews than put in real effort to make customers happy and improve the gym. Take care of your customers instead of scamming them. This gym needs a GM that actually cares about the gym and the day to day experiences, and spends time wisely and proactively to build satisfied clients. Cheating will not get you far.
Hi Jake,Thank you for your review! We take the involvement and engagement of our staff very seriously and want to make sure that we deal with any operation outside of our contractual guidelines, but also ethical guidelines as well.If you wouldn't mind, we hope you'll consider reaching out to clarify a couple of your points made here, such as when/how you were bribed for a review, and to discuss the GM's conduct. This would help make this experience better for all other members, as well as hopefully iron out what went wrong with your experience here. We would also be more than happy to address and of course, correct any GM/club conduct that took place outside of the bounds membership agreement. Please reach out to us at your earliest convenience at [email protected] to get this squared away!Best in Health,The Crunch Team
Positive experience: It's kind of like an elevated Planet Fitness. I like that the machines have instructions on how to properly use them. I also like that they have an app you can link your membership to and use to coordinate the class schedules. I am not a big fan of their locker room (women's). I was spoiled by the rec center locker room at WCC... They need to clean the locker room more than they do though for sure. The showers and floors are not very well maintained. I bought a year membership and am not mad about it. I paid for the membership that gets me classes and lets me go to any location. I have yet to take a class, but I have watched some while I do my normal routine and it seems good enough.
Positive experience: I came here a couple of times to work out while I was visiting family in Saline. Overall, the gym is well-equipped, and the staff is friendly, but both times I was there, the gym was PACKED. Hard to grab a bench, constantly needing to ask if someone was using a machine, etc., which just made me workout less enjoyable than it otherwise could've been. Is that really Crunch's fault? Not really, but I will be checking out other gyms in the area before I return here.
Negative experience: I’ve been attending this gym for a little over 2 years. Recently, it’s become too packed to work out efficiently (have to wait 20 minutes sometimes to use machines). So, I requested to cancel my membership, but I was four days too late to avoid the annual fee ($65 on top of monthly fees). I requested that they refund me this fee, which they obstinately denied. Despite being a corporation supposedly built on the value of working out, I found their inflexibility incredulous. If you’re looking for a cheap gym, this will do just fine. Just make sure you read the fine print and remember you’re just a tiny line of profit in the end. When requesting a bit of stretch, you’ll be sent a screenshot of your contract terms like a piece of capital instead of being met as a human who doesn’t keep a once-a-year charge in the front of their mind.
Hello Rachelle,Thank you for your review, and allowing us the space to address your concerns on a public stage via Google Reviews!I would like to highlight the positive in this review, and clarify terms as well. We are not a cheap gym, we are an extremely affordable gym experience! Our facilities contain a full spectrum of fitness modalities such as Miles of Cardio machines, A Ton of Weights, Awesome Classes, a very expansive HIIT zone containing a huge variety of functional training equipment, as well as a relax and recover area to tie the whole experience home. All of this in one huge facility with membership plans starting at $9.99 a month! With a facility this great, sometimes we do run into an issue in which we are servicing a high volume of members who are looking to use this expansive facility to hit their various goals with us. This can cause wait times for machines and platforms to happen, and would like to clarify for anybody reading that this is a feature of any health club, especially around the new year when we have so many new people trusting us to be the catalyst with their new lifestyle change. With regards to your cancellation request, and having spoken to management regarding this manner, I would like to clarify the timeline for anybody reading this reply.1/13 - You Submitted a request for a cancellation to management due to member volume.1/16 - You retracted this submission saying. “I’ll wait it out a couple weeks to see if it gets better.”1/16 - A manager Ianna responded and provided excellent insight into the industry as it pertains to New Years member volume, and informed you we’d be keeping your membership open.1/16 - You thanked her for said insight, and reiterated that you would like to wait a few weeks.1/19 -You received your charge of the AMF, and replied to the email thread and requested cancellation and refund.Being that you submitted a cancellation and then retracted it, we in no way were trying to obfuscate the fact that your Annual Fee was due, we simply likely did not look into your membership payment schedule as we had no reason to at that point. We are not in the business of tricking our members or guests into anything, which is why we provide an opportunity to read the agreement before a membership is signed for, and also provide a copy of the agreement to a members email within minutes of membership creation. It is impossible for us to operate outside of the bounds of this agreement. Management will do their best to explain our policies a few times to a member who is running into any issues, and if at the end of our attempts, we are unable to convey an understandable message, we will send images of our contract in order to further clarify the situation as a last resort. Our contract is in place to protect members from any shady business practices, provide members a guideline of what is to be expected in your time with us, as well as something to point to when questions arise, and sometimes an image of the document is the best way to do that.I will repeat my request in this reply that I have iterated in a few replies on this site. PLEASE READ THE CONTRACT! We understand that this is a 5 page document and reading the whole thing is unlikely, so in lieu of reading the whole thing, any Member Service Representative or Club Manager would be happy to go over the “SparkNotes” version of the agreement, and explain the cancellation policy and any more relevant details to anybody who asks!Thank you again for your review, as lower score reviews do provide an opportunity to reach potential members who might be helped by this message and our reply.Best in Health,The Crunch Team
Fantastic experience: I really enjoy Crunch in Ann Arbor. The staff is friendly. They take cleanliness to a whole new level. I like that I can go in and get right on a treadmill without waiting. I remember having to pay quite a bit of money at a local gym I use to use. At $10 for the local membership and $20 for the multi-gym. No brainer!
Negative experience: Very disappointed with the lack of weekend group fitness classes. It’s fine for use of equipment and solo workouts and decent value. But in other regions of the country the Crunch gyms are AMAZING - just not Ann Arbor right now
Negative experience: Been going here for a few years and really has declined. Management does nothing for broken equipment. Staff chill on their phones and do nothing, or they prioritize working out instead of their jobs. Men’s locker room has mold growing in the sinks and rarely has soap stocked. So glad we got that nice lighting working in the locker rooms to see how dirty this place really is.
Negative experience: The gym is one of the most poorly managed and maintained gym I’ve ever been too in over 30 years of training. It’s extremely dirty and the equipment is broken for many weeks at a time. Currently the leg press has been broken for 6 weeks. Manager knows about it but does nothing to fix it, yet people continue to use it while it drags on the metal frame. It’s purely an investment for the owner. He doesn’t care about customers or updating or replacing equipment that doesn’t get used. Too many treadmills that sit idle. Complete waste of space. Also soap dispensers are frequently empty and bathrooms are disgusting. Owner should get rid of half the cardio machines that don’t get used and buy some better leg equipment! Owners and managers are a joke!!
Negative experience: I joined the gym specifically for the classes. They have two levels of membership which offer access to classes — one which includes some classes($$)and another which includes all ($$$). I have the level that includes some classes. When I joined, they had a wide variety of classes at Ann Arbor at this level. The mix and supplemental availability at the Ypsilanti location made me a happy customer. Even if I couldn’t find a class at Ann Arbor, I could do a class somewhat near by. Since May, they have cancelled more than half the classes. I used to be able to find classes to go to 6 days of the week, now I am lucky if I can find a class at my home location in my plan 3 days. Seems like they restructured with only the highest paying membership class in mind. When I asked a member of staff about it, they told me to simply upgrade. Definitely considering not renewing my contract. Update: I did not renew. The changes kept getting worse. TLDR—: Staff is nice otherwise and the gym is will kept, i just cannot believe how they have handled the group training classes, if this is a priority for you, give it some more thought.
Hi Brittnay can you email me directly. My name is Dan Jett I'm the VP of operations. I would like to see how we can resolve this matter. Thank you. [email protected]
Positive experience: Been going to Crunch Ann Arbor since it opened and attend almost every day. I like the variety of options, usual availability of equipment and friendliness of the staff. My issues that prevent a fifth star are non- existent preventive maintenance of equipment, long time to repair broken machines and occasional lack of cleanliness of the toilet facilities. I have encouraged 2 acquaintances to join Crunch but both dropped out because of these issues.
Positive experience: Tldr: Great gym, people friendly/great community, has sauna and punching bags, not the most clean and equipment needs maintenance, can get crowded after work, cancelling memberships suck. Overall great gym. With that in mind, the best parts of of the gym are the people/community. Have yet to meet anyone I don't like! There's a sauna and punching bags which is nice because most gyms don't have those. I don't get personal training but the personal trainers I have met are friendly. There's only a few things keeping this from being a 5 star gym. The cleanliness isn't the best and the gym equipment needs more regular maintenance and more equipment (especially handles for cable machines). It does get pretty crowded around 3pm when people start getting off work during the week, so be mindful of that. There's 2 different types of Crunch Fitnesses, corporate and franchise. Your membership will not transfer between certain Crunch's and you have to start a new profile at certain ones. It sucks to cancel the memberships and they definitely don't make it easy on you.
Negative experience: Edit: it’s been over a month and the overhead lights above the benches are still flashing, making it almost unusable to actually use the benches without a headache It’s a fine gym, but things are ALWAYS broken, it’s wild. There’s been an overhead light blinking quickly for about 2 weeks now, 3 of the stair masters have been out of order for about the same time. It took them 2 months to fix a single bolt in the calf raise machine. Overall, you’ll get a good workout and feel fine, but the fine details of a gym are definitely not there.
Fantastic experience: Recently I have been searching for a new gym throughout the Ann Arbor/Ypsilanti area, looking for the one that fit me best…by far that is Crunch Fitness. I felt instantly welcomed…the facilities are clean, everyone is focused on their workouts (yet are polite and kind), Crunch has all the equipment I was looking for and then some. Management, while taking a vested interest in making sure to show me around, was never pushy or overbearing. I was going to wait a few days to sign up to ‘make sure’ but this is definitely my gym!
Positive experience: I really loved going to this gym until recently I have observed the gym slowly slipping into bad maintenance. The carpet is off in a few places, machines are constantly out of function and the men’s room smells like it’s been maintained for weeks. Having said that the employees/trainers are courteous. If they could just improve maintenance that would really elevate this gym.
Hi Nikhil! We've been working hard with an emphasis on club cleanliness and maintenance lately. We hope you've seen the positive changes happening around here! If you ever have any questions or concerns, please email the General Manager at [email protected]!Thanks for your review!
Positive experience: Employees at the front are nice and they have plenty of free weights, however the place is generally pretty dirty outside of the machines and the tanning beds almost never get wiped down after use and one of the booths has had multiple lights out for the last 6 months. To top it off they won't go out of the way to reset the one that has all the lights working. If the free weights are the most important thing then powerhouse may be a better option, cheap tanning is a draw you're better off checking out planet fitness. This sucks because I really do like this location and it has a lot of potential. This is not an employee issue this is a management issue. Hope this helps anyone who's making a decision right now.
Fantastic experience: I love this gym! Hands down the hottest sauna I've ever been. There's a lot of research on the health benefits of sauna, especially really hot sauna (search "Dr. Rhonda Patrick"). My cardio has improved since I started doing sauna there. Just the sauna itself is worth the price. Awesome free weights and machines.
Fantastic experience: Very clean gym very knowledgeable staff good prices
Negative experience: The gym is great but fix your equipment. Your getting 40$ a year from everyone for equipment, keep it fixed. You'll go back to 5 stars when you send in your repair team
Fantastic experience: I really like this gym. I get there when it opens so it’s not crowded at all. Equipment is in good shape. Place is clean for a gym. Membership cost is reasonable. No meatheads flexing in front of the mirror. Also, I have to give a shout out to the dude that works mornings. Super cool and greets everyone by name. You know it’s a good place when their employees are happy.
Fantastic experience: Very welcoming employees and clientele. Gym was in good shape and clean.
Michael,Thank you for your review and I am glad you are enjoying your trial with Crunch Ann Arbor! If you need anything else from us don't hesitate to reach out to staff or management! In Health,The Crunch Team
Negative experience: They're bribing people for 5 star reviews here. Beware.
Negative experience: The 4Ds of crunch: Dirty equipment Dirty bathroom Disrespectful people Damaged equipment
Negative experience: They can’t ever find a person that can open on time !!! 30 minutes late at 5am!!!! Still no one here!!! Wow!!! 10 people have already left. What a JOKE!!!! Find a real gym if your looking for a place to workout
Positive experience: Nobody cleans the machines like they should. Ppl just walk away and don't spray anything, no one enforces this policy either... It's disgusting considering the time we live in. Need to update cleaning policy and hold ppl accountable.
Hello, Thank you for your review! At Crunch in Ann Arbor, we are currently in the process of modifying our cleaning policy as it pertains to the staff, but I understand that this may not be an immediate solution to your problem. We try to do what we can to keep the place clean for our members, and if you see members violating our cleaning policies please do not hesitate to bring it to the attention of the staff so we may assist! If you would like to discuss this further please do not hesitate to email us at [email protected] and a staff member will be happy to speak with you!
Positive experience: Good gym. Pretty clean and has a lot of great equipment. Only issue is they only have 2 bench presses and way too many cardio machines.
Positive experience: Great for the price! Had a small issue when I moved and had to cancel my membership, but the manager made sure to take care of it after bringing it to his attention.
Joseph,Thank you for your review, I would like to follow up with you to see if you have received the refund we issued on 5/9? Again, I apologize for the mistake on our end, and hope that we solved your issue in an acceptable timeframe! I know I personally contacted you by email shortly after this review was received so if you'd like to reply to this you may reach out there. Thank you!The Crunch Team
Negative experience: If you see a raft of 5 star reviews just know this location recently put up fliers soliciting 5 star reviews. If a member submitted one, screen shot it and showed it to the front desk they got a raffle entry for a $100. I would suggest before you decide to enroll here you ask the manager for a written copy of their COVID procedure.
Negative experience: This gym is a fraud, I tried to cancel my membership and they wouldn’t let me until I have to pay the yearly membership even though I was trying to cancel it! They will sweet talk you into signing a contract for a year, but then will charge for the second year even though I didn’t give them the permission.
Hello Nawar,Thank you for your review, hopefully we can get this squared away for you. I apologize on behalf of the club for what you're going through. I assure you we are not in the business of defrauding our members and I would like to rectify this as soon as possible! It sounds like, based on your review, that we may have made a mistake, and missed your request to have your membership not auto-renew at the end of your term. If you would please do us a favor and send a message to [email protected] outlining this request, and if you are also able to provide your request to cancel your membership, or disable your auto-renewal that would help immensely! We are looking forward to speaking with you soon and getting this taken care of for you.Thank you,The Crunch Team
Negative experience: Way too many cardio machines for as many people use them. Why are there 40 tred mills and 2 flat benches? Also them closing at 8pm on weekends makes no sense. Everyone complains about these issues and nothing is ever done to address them. Crunch ypsi and ann arbor need to seriously be worried about any more competition opening in the area. I'm sure half their gym would leave on the spot.
Hello John,Thank you for your review! I would like to address your issues with the club, as well as welcome your feedback as to how we can improve our facility. As far as the volume of cardio vs the volume of strength equipment, our goal as a facility is to offer a wide variety of equipment to facilitate all levels of fitness and all programs that a member may be following. Crunch Fitness is given an outline and requirements for equipment in the building, and is based off of what has worked for Crunch Fitness in the past.We are aware that our club is populated by more individuals following a strength program than are focused on cardiovascular training, however being that we are a Franchise location of an International corporation, we are bound by their layout requirements. As far as our hours go, I believe 8PM is the latest any gym, at least our competitors, is open in the area on the weekends. The only clubs open later on the weekends are 24 hour clubs, and the only 24 hour club in the area isn't typically a gym that Crunch members would consider as a viable option. We appreciate the feedback, and will look into potentially expanding our hours and equipment in the future!Thank you again,The Crunch Team
Negative experience: I loved this gym for the year I had it. Until the end of my contract they automatically renewed it without notice and I couldn’t get out of it. They charge annual fees twice a year at an outrageous rate and even charged me after my year contract was up and wouldn’t refund me because I didn’t cancel fast enough. But then charge a cancellation fee if you want to end it early. Poorly managed, bad communication and hidden fees.
Negative experience: I like the people working here including the trainers and staff but I think the maintenance and management has gone down hill and someone needs to take some serious action. Broken equipment is not fixed promptly, the men locker and bathroom (urinals, toilets and showers) are really filthy, I doubt they ever clean anything, the sauna has been broken for many weeks and it seems they won't fix it any time soon... it just doesn't seem there's any interest in taking care of the facilities and I think the management is taking members for granted. Very disappointed and simply disgusted by the filth, you need to take action!!
Negative experience: Always hard to get a spot in the free weight areas, locker rooms are kind of gross. Other than that, nicely lit, new equipment, friendly staff, cheap prices. Go month to month in case you don’t like it. *Edit* dropping my review to 1 STAR due to them billing me for an entire year after I told them I wanted my membership to end. ANOTHER PREDATORY GYM. Stay away!
Hello David,Thank you for your review, and I apologize for what happened to you here, I would like to make it right! It sounds like we may have made a mistake, as we are not in the business of predatory business practices. We would absolutely never ever charge anybody for a membership that they cancelled, and in the event that we do make a mistake like that, we are always eager to make it right as soon as possible! It would help us immensely if whenever you get the chance, reply to the cancellation email thread that we have going on so It can be brought to the top of our inbox. From there we can take a look at the request and go from there.Again, we are eager to make it right, if you made the request, and we missed it, we will always always always make it right. If you, or anybody reading this has further questions for us, please don't hesitate to email the club at [email protected] to bring your concerns to the attention of the club management! In Health,The Crunch AA Team
Negative experience: 06.01.21 been going to this location since it was Arbor-fit. Crunch is awesome, love the new equiptment, the staff is all super kind and helpful. The reason for my 3 star review is that the gym is simply WAY too busy and there is not enough free weight availability. Theres usually 2-3+ people in line for benches and squat racks.. I highly modified my workout to be able to do all in the HITT area, but now that crunch is running classes again, the area is often unavailable. Its very frustrating there isnt enough space, they kick everyone out of the HITT area to run a class for sometimes just 2 people... I wish crunch could nuke some of the (mostly unused) weight machines or cardio and replace them with another set of benches/dumbells or more squat racks. theres also the empty building space attached to crunch - maybe buy it and rennovate to more free weight space? 11.20.21 updated signs were put up in the gym giving a 15$ giftcard for proof of a 5 star review. Im guessing they are trying to drown out bad reviews. Im downgrading my review from a 3 to. 2. I agree with the constantly overfilling trashcans, broken equiptment and missing clips. a toilet thats been broken for 2 months, the ladies locker room isnt really clean. on the flipside, my partner said the mens standing stalls are all flooded with piss and hair. I do want to stress again that all the individual employees Ive ever interacted with have been nothing but friendly and helpful. I cant speculate as to why the gym is so dirty, The free weight area is unbearably busy
Negative experience: This gym has become absolutely disgusting. The locker room is always a mess - filthy floor, the toilets are never clean, and the stalls never have toilet paper. One of the stalls has been out of commission for several months now. Recently, the plumbing has caused the bathrooms and showers to be closed multiple times. The trash all over the gym is always overflowing. The floor of the actual gym itself is gross as well. The owner clearly does not take any pride in this location, which is sad. Several of the benches in the dumbbell area have broken knobs. The clips for the barbells are missing. It’s ridiculous. It’s a shame because you tell the front desk employees and they know there are issues, but there is only so much they can do when the owner doesn’t care.
Fantastic experience: I won a free personal training with Austin today and liked it a lot. So much, that I’m thinking about to purchase 3 months personal training with him. Austin was easy-going, very knowledgeable, and he listened carefully to what my goals are. He explained all the exercises very well and also why they will be helpful for me in order to reach my fitness goals. I can recommend to anyone, experienced or not.
Fantastic experience: Austin Lamb is an amazing trainer. I really get a lot out of working with him. I enjoy going to Crunch to do my workouts.
Fantastic experience: My free (raffle) 1 hr personal training session with Austin at the Ann Arbor Saline location was great. He was knowledgeable, personable, and easy to work with. Very instructional and informative session! Would recommend to anyone whether they’re new or experienced.
Adam,Thanks for your review! Austin will be excited to hear this, he takes his job very seriously and prides himself on being a well of knowledge to help anybody get to their goals! If you need anything else from us or have nay more questions, don't hesitate to grab Austin or anybody else on the staff, they'd be happy to help!-The Crunch Team
Fantastic experience: Very clean and the staff is friendly! Austin (personal trainer) was super friendly and helpful in the initial personal training session you get when you join. He was fun, professional, and had a lot of tips and suggestions for my personal goals. Super happy with my decision to join this gym! Excited to try the many classes they offer too.
