Downtown Athletic Club

Negative experience: Dont waste your time. They hired someone I know and promised to give them as close to 40 hours as possible. Had him work hard all week just to go back on that offer and gave him 25 hours a week. Management is incompetent. For some reason they feel the need to have 2 houskeeping managers who aren't even full time. When they are there they walk around on their phone and don't really do too much. The hot tub is not pH tested regularly. Not saying it's dirty but it's for sure not being tested daily. I think some of the workout equipment should be maintained better there's a chest press machine with grips that aren't even the right size and somebody put grease in the Smith machine rails. They should focus on maintaining equipment as well as the memberships they already have instead of prioritizing new memberships. They should think about expanding before prioritizing new memberships. Female staff is unprofessional. Older front desk lady took a male coworker out to lunch to let him know the front desk girl found him hot I think leadership is questionable. The memberships are over very overpriced for the equipment you get access to.

Positive experience: I feel like anyone who actually goes to that gym for workout, running, sports, swimming etc… should be required a membership even if only 20$ or so just for the time there. Some of us are actually there to better are selves and not for competition or distraction. The court sometimes does have unexpected people that play basketball there that look like they don’t even have a member ship and do not respect others around there.

Negative experience: Terrible club overpriced with no new equipment yet they keep raising prices this place is a joke

Negative experience: "I had a decent experience at Downtown Athletic Club, but it was consistently marred by a group of disruptive individuals on the basketball court. They would bully others, try to take over the entire court, and even start fights. Despite my efforts to enjoy my time there, the presence of these hoodlums made the experience less than great. Unfortunately, the staff was often nowhere to be found when these incidents occurred, which only added to the frustration. While the facilities were decent, the lack of adequate supervision and enforcement of rules made my time at Downtown Athletic Club less enjoyable than it could have been."

Negative experience: Management is a bunch of stuck up old ladies

Fantastic experience: The DAC is not as busy as some of the other gyms. You get to know people here. And I really like the group fitness classes.

Fantastic experience: By far the nicest place to workout in Amarillo. Amenities are amazing and all the staff there are so nice. They offer many classes with your membership and have both free weights and machines.

Fantastic experience: I travel for work and stay at the Courtyard downtown because of the agreement they have for guest. This gym is top notch. The steam room is rare find.

Positive experience: I've had to update my rating to reflect poor equipment maintenance. There are way too many machines in the cardio area (ex: treadmills) that do not work at all, or have assorted mechanical or computer issues. Gym is kept clean and offers many amenities for busy people.

Fantastic experience: The Downtown Athletic Club is unlike any gym I have ever been a member of. The facility is always clean, never too crowded and the staff is extremely friendly and helpful. At other gyms that I have gone to, I would find it difficult to find an open treadmill or elliptical on days that I needed to fit my workout in during 'peak' hours. I haven't had a single experience at the Downtown Athletic Club where I couldn't access the piece of equipment that I wanted to use that day. I have also taken several of the group fitness classes with Trainer Beth Brestrup, she is really friendly and makes sure that all new students feel welcome and know the best technique for each exercise. Overall, my experience at the Downtown Athletic Club has been excellent and I would definitely recommend a membership to anyone who asks.
