Services, Machines and Guided Classes
Fort Sanders Health & Fitness Center: Opinions

Fantastic experience: Great family rec center.
Negative experience: Not good when the schedule you look at online at fort sanders group fitness schedule tells you a certain class is happening and you get there only to find out once again the class you came for has been substituted for another class. Really? Looks like FSHF needs to hire a new marketing manager.
Negative experience: Very clean gym and pool, but the old men consistently, casually parading around all throughout the locker-room totally nude for extended periods of time is disturbing, especially since there are minors in the locker-room. Rules without enforcement are words. Address the problem.
Fantastic experience: This has been a great place so far for me and my family. They have everything needed for any fitness goal. Having someone that knows what they are doing to help you learn is priceless.
Positive experience: The facility is decent, but for what you pay for the equipment is outdated and not enough machines such as leg press and smith machine. There is a lot of potential for sure. Also, I don’t use anything else besides the weights and for me to have to pay for everything they provide is messed up. They should definitely look into levels of membership.
Fantastic experience: Friendly staff, brand new tennis courts.
Negative experience: Joined because of pool. Talked about pool schedule before joining because I live 45 minutes from the gym and can't spend all day waiting for lanes. Was told there was a 30 minute limit when busy. As I knew v swim would be taking landed at 4:30, I arrived at 3:30 with the thought that lanes would all have to "refresh" at least once before 4 and that would allow me 30 minutes to swim. We'll at 42 minutes someone finally left a lane. The lifeguard never said a word about the 30 minutes. I was lucky enough to get the lap lane that swim team would not use so I was thankful I was going to get my 30 minutes still. 20 minutes in someone ask to lane share and I explain that I have bad knees that I'm working out and doing the Breast stroke. That this does not lend to lane sharing and I had 10 laps to go. She said we'll there's only one lane available and explained I knew that and that I had waited 45 minutes to get a lane since I can't lane share. She jumped in any way. No courtsey at all.... plain entitlement. She shouldn't dare have to wait like event else and after I explained I only had 10 laps to go. She was all over me trying to relax and swim. I left. I'm also no longer a member. Ridiculous that members have no courtsey and worse that the lifeguards don't do anything about. I drive even further to a gym where respect and courtesy are common place.
Fantastic experience: Towels & showers, indoor & outdoor pools!
Fantastic experience: Great place they have everything steam..sauna..swimming pool..jacuzzi..love the place
Negative experience: Men's jacuzzi and sauna are both very filthy. They claim to empty the jacuzzi and clean it once a week but there is black mold in between the tiles and even the handrail has never even been cleaned there's scum all over it. Most of the people at the front desk aren't friendly. The jacuzzi is closed most of the time for no reason. Old outdated equipment and facility. It might be worth it for 30 bucks a month.
Fantastic experience: The staff is very friendly, the gym is clean and overall great environment to work out in.
Fantastic experience: Best pedicure I have had in Knoxville. Hospital grade sanitary. Tina at the Day Spa is kind, knowledgeable, and has 30 years experience.
Fantastic experience: Great place to play tennis, daycare for kids, gym workout, pool, and much more! :)
Fantastic experience: I've been a member of Fort Sanders Health & Fitness Center since the 90s. They do a great job with all the group fitness classes. There are class formats that have been around for a long time and they are always adding in new formats to keep things interesting. The building is a little quirky but they do a great job utilizing the space effectively. There's a lot of variety from indoor/outdoor tennis and swinng pools to HIIT classes, mind/body options and specialty programs like Les Mills GRIT. The staff is great and many of them have been there for years. If you are looking for a fitness facility with a lot of options, I'd recommend giving them a try. Also, membership is month to month vs having to sign a multiple year contract like other places.
Fantastic experience: I love the people here! They feel like family!
Fantastic experience: I love everything about this place. It's so clean amd smells so clean. The staff and other patrons are always friendly and encouraging. I've been able to make a lot of improvements bc I didn't feel judged or embarrassed. Some classes are easier amd some are harder. All offer a challenge. The showers and the whole facility is very clean. You are offered a fresh, clean towel and a locker when you walk in. There are SO MANY different types of group fitness classes for evey type of interest and fitness level. Or you can work out on your own. There is an indoor and outdoor pool, racketball, tennis, indoor and outdoor pickleball. Your membership also includes fitness evaluations and other such things. Use as much or as little as you like. I personally love the sauna! It's totally worth the price of the membership.
Fantastic experience: The state of the art facility love it!
Positive experience: Nice place to work out. Wish they had an extra room for quiet training when the yoga and aerobic rooms are in use.
Positive experience: Must be a guest. Membership is closed at this time.
Fantastic experience: It's a full gym kept up well. Very nice staff.
Fantastic experience: Great atmosphere for work outs, front staff super friendly and helpful.
Fantastic experience: Always 1st Class.
Fantastic experience: Great all-around fitness center
Fantastic experience: Played tennis as a guest twice. Welcomed by staff, courts were very good, atmosphere was conducive to good play.
Fantastic experience: We've enjoyed our time as members so far. The staff are friendly and the facility is clean and not overly crowded.
Fantastic experience: Ashleigh is the best esthetician in East TN!!! She is so professional and very knowledgeable in her speciality! I got a facial with her and my skin glowed for weeks!!!
Fantastic experience: Friendly staff. Always willing to answer questions. Have never had a problem. People of all ages working out. So many different classes and options.
Negative experience: Vicky is straight up rude and disrespectful the rest of the front desk staff are amazing and have great personality but every time I have Vicky checking me in she has an attitude and seems to be unhappy about everything overall gym experience not including that is amazing.
Negative experience: The gym equipment is so outdated, was very disappointed , you would as big as they are they could get some better equipment. They have plenty of cardio equipment so why not better gym and fitness equipment . I will say the restroom and locker area are clean
Fantastic experience: "Stellar" fitness center. The amenities are 5 star, workout/cardio equipment is well maintained, physical training classes for everyone, aerobics sports are plentiful, and a very professional & friendly staff. Did I mention amenities:), unmatched in Blount or Knox County. #1 fitness center.
Fantastic experience: Wow! Looking for a place to play tennis indoors since it is now 27 degrees outside. Googled “indoor tennis” and this place is near me. Indoor glass-walled racquet ball courts. Weights and cardio equipment. Outdoor tennis courts and indoor tennis courts. This place has a good “feel” to it. Looking forward to taking a tour of the place. Edit: Joined the club! Played indoor tennis here many times now. Coach Dan assessed my tennis skills and gave me good advice. Enjoying my time here so far. Edit2: Outdoor pool is perfect for a swim on a sunny day. Lounge chairs are just the place to relax by the pool. Yes! Edit3: Trainer Lesly set up a training routine on the Trainerize app for me. Takes about an hour to complete all 14 stations. Losing weight! Yes! Edit4: Taylor did a physical assessment on me. Timed activities like walking. Weight and height. Printed out a report for me. She will repeat in three months. Good stuff!
Positive experience: I'm going to start this off with saying my three star rating is 100% attributable to a lack of variety and a lack of quantity of weightlifting equipment. The facility is clean, friendly staff and overall I would recommend it to people that want access to a wide variety of activities. All that said, I primarily use this facility for weightlifting. Deadlifting is so hit and miss at this facility. There is only one deadlift station and as you could imagine, it's tough to get a set in. I've started going to another gym in the area on deadlift day. There isn't any excuse for this. Deadlift stations cost less than a single piece of aerobic equipment and require zero maintenance. They could easily make room for one or even two additional deadlift stations with the available space. They also lack a proper set-up for seal rows. This is another inexpensive piece of equipment that takes up little room. I've suggested both of these multiple times through the anonymous feedback forms they have and have requested follow-up and provided my name, which is an option they provide. Nobody has ever followed up with me. For about 3 to 4 thousand dollars, this facility could have a weight lifting variety and quantity that would rival any other gym in the area. Until that point, if weightlifting is your primary focus, I would look elsewhere. If weightlifting isn't your primary focus, I highly recommend this facility.
Negative experience: Very outdated and limited gym equipment and machines. Basketball and tennis courts are nice though. Also, be careful with cancellation policy. We got charged for almost 2 months (January/February) when we canceled membership simply because I called on January 2nd to cancel and they have 30day cancellation policy.... meaning we have to pay for almost 60days after cancelling, haha.
Positive experience: Nice facility, with lots of options. Large weight room, indoor and outdoor pools, indoor and outdoor tennis courts, and racquetball. Well maintained. The only reason the fitness center does not receive 5 stars is because the price is high.
Fantastic experience: Do you feel you need to change something in your life to make a difference for the New Year? Or are you new in West Knoxville, not so sure where to meet good people or potential friends? Or are you concerned about your health and well-being of your loved ones? Or any concerns or anxieties related with work or personal relationships? These questions and fears mentioned above all came from my personal experiences and If you were out there wondering like I had been, Fort Sanders is the very best place you should check out! All you need to do is just sign up here and show up as many times as you are available!! There are so many different programs you would be interested in and the instructors I have met are just Amazingly skilled and so Inspiring and staffs at the reception desk are so friendly, too. I am a firm believer of "A sound mind in a sound body" and if you find yourself agreeing to this old saying, don't hesitate any longer and start to sign up today!
Negative experience: Be ready to pay a pricey membership fee and monthly fee only to go in to do your workout and be told you have to leave the room because a class is going on that has 3 people in it. Staff is not rude but clearly it’s just a job for them.
Fantastic experience: I have been a member for over ten years. My needs have changed but the facility has remained the same. Kid City has always been a big staple in my life. Excellent child care at Fort Sanders. I love the group fitness and all the machines. My kids enjoy the indoor and outdoor pools. Best fitness place in Knoxville!
Fantastic experience: Fantastic old school fitness center that offers a wide variety of well-maintained facilities with a professional staff, including every kind of trainer you could want. My elderly mother loves the aquagym, my sister loves the spin classes and I am in the pool every day because I have a choice of outdoor and indoor pools! Clean and well ventilated, gorgeous showers and fluffy towels, friendly folks around the pool...exercise at Ft Sanders is a highlight of my day :-)
Fantastic experience: I bring my toddler here so I can work out or even get some work done in the lounge. The staff at the gym - and the kid city drop in child care - have all been amazing. My husband loves GRIT class with Ashley!
Negative experience: Terrible hours! They used to be open until 10 now it’s 8:45 and 5:45 on weekends. The price went up yet the equipment is outdated. One of my biggest complaints is how dirty the gym is!! You can see from the upstairs running track how dirty the indoor pool is I would never get in there. The hot tub in the women’s locker room is always out of order too. When I went to cancel my membership the director of a covenant hospital was also canceling her family’s membership due to the hours and how dirty the gym is. Even the director who has a work discount is canceling!!! That tells you everything you need to know. Save your money and go somewhere that invests in the gym and actually cares about their clients!
Fantastic experience: I have been going to FSHFC since 1989. I have NEVER EVER experienced any racism!!! It’s a lovely facility and been going there for all these years for a reason, OBVIOUSLY!!! I mention this in my comment after reading a comment. Staff have always made me feel welcome and always helpful!!! Apart from that, I wouldn’t want to go anywhere else, because I have seen people leave and come back. I absolutely love this facility. It is truly a five star facility.
Positive experience: Just wish they would keep their Facebook page consistent with current happenings. For instance, I went to go swim one morning and I called beforehand and they said the pool was open but when I got there it was closed. And then there was a note on the pool door saying it would open in half an hour. So I wait at the half an hour and then after half an hour they put another sign on the door saying that it would be an hour. And none of this was set on the Facebook website. It was a big inconvenience. Other than that it's a great club.
Fantastic experience: Kim and I Just finished our first Water Bootcamp with Kari Barrett at Fort Sanders Fitness. Awesome workout, thanks Kari
Fantastic experience: Enjoy my time here working out in the various classes. The instructors are very good and customize the workout if you have any restrictions. Even if you don’t feel like it just going there lifts the mood and sauna is very relaxing. The showers and locker rooms are well maintained. The front desk staff is very friendly and helpful.
Negative experience: Me and my 3 kids (11, 8 and 5) joined to use their pools for the summer. The pools themselves were very clean, and there are always life support items and toys and such made available for everyone to use, which is great! However, the lifeguards and swim instructors are NOT very skilled in making everyone feel like they are welcome. I am a plus sized woman, myself, and on many occasions I find myself being glared at in an unsettling way that makes me feel as though I shouldn't be there, or don't have the same rights as anyone else to bring my kids to play. I spent the same amount of money as anyone else, and we don't bother anyone while being in the facility, yet we are made to feel like outcasts because of my looks. And my children have noticed and said things to me before as well. As far as a clean and tidy place to workout, this place is amazing! But, in terms of how certain staffembers treat and talk about members as if they're not sitting right there, is highly unprofessional and it makes people feel like they don't belong. Most of the staff is exceptional, but the lifeguards and swim instructors seem to be very judgemental and are very open about it. And yes, me and my children have noticed this, not only to us, but others as well.
Fantastic experience: Best customer service , awesome classes , and pretty good equipment. I travel all over the country and this is by far the most comfortable gym I've joined.
Thanks for your response!
Fantastic experience: Love going here. Great classes, facilities, amenities and staff. Also love that if you need to stop your membership there is no fee to get out of it, all you need is to give them your notice. Best gym in Knoxville!
Fantastic experience: Clean, safe and comfortable. Great coaches.
Fantastic experience: Staff is very helpful
Fantastic experience: Great front desk staff. Pools are great. I like that they give you a key for a locker, no need for a lock!
Positive experience: Nice, Good service and welcoming.
Fantastic experience: I went as a kid when it 1st opened I loved it than and now it's been kept up and remodeled its the nicest one in town hopefully I can afford to join in the next few months the price is great I'm just broke lol Tricia you are lovely and I can't wait to enjoy the facility again I suffer from alot of medical issues and I barely survived Covid I really can't wait to be working on my health & future see you soon!
Negative experience: Tommy Hodge, the General Manager of Fort Sanders Health & Fitness Center, owned by Covenant Health deserves 0 stars. He was inappropriate in a way that made me uncomfortable. I do not advise doing business with him or this fitness center. He just cancels you.
Ms. Palmer,Thank you for your feedback. We appreciate customers taking the time to share their experiences, as we always strive to provide excellent services. Please feel free to contact our Fitness Center directly with concerns. Thanks again.
Positive experience: This place is pretty good. The staff is nice. Unfortunately, the owner is behind the times with Covid BS rules. They still haven't opened their water fountains (it IS a gym) and many other places have them open. That and my other pet peeves are not changing bad light bulbs in the makeup area even when they know they're out, and playing horrendous music in the morning, not conducive to exercise, ie; 70s dribble.
Ms. Myers,Thank you for your review! We do our best to provide the safest, cleanest, and friendliest environment for our members. We appreciate your feedback and will share it with our leadership team.Thank you.
Positive experience: I really like this gym. The problem is that it is not set up for people who work a traditional work week. Even before Covid they offered limited classes after 5:45 PM. But since Covid, they have not re-started several of their classes. The classes were my primary focus. I did talk to membership and they added one class back in the evening. However they only left it on the calendar for just one month. In my mind, not enough time to build up class attendance. There were typically at least five people in each class for those four weeks. My other gripe is that the online calendar is not necessarily accurate. I showed up to swim one day one hour before it was to close, according to the online schedule, and the pool was already closed. Another day I got there 15 minutes before they were supposed to start closing the pool, and they were already partially done closing up. And then my final issue is that I showed up to Barre when I had an RSVP, and there was no space. I had adjusted my activities multiple times in an effort to stay at this gym. However in the long run it’s not worth almost $60 just to use cardio equipment. Pluses are safe comfortable environment. There are serious weight lifters, but it feels more like professional folks trying to stay in shape. I adore the outdoor pool. The showers are amazing and the dressing rooms are incredibly clean. If you are free during the day, there would be plenty of classes for you.
Negative experience: I am a collegiate swimmer that has been coming to this pool for the past year to maintain my training while I am home from college. I thought this would be a great place to train, as it has great locker rooms, a semi-decent pool, and a weight lifting facility right above the pool. However, I cannot in good conscious recommend this facility to anyone that is seeking to work out in a healthy environment. I would say the largest and most blatant issue with this facility lies with its members, staff, and their hostility towards guest, particularly those that aren't white. When I came with my partner, who is hispanic and not from the US, he was treated with blatant racism and hostility in the facility, locker rooms, and pool area. When walking into the maze that is their locker rooms, a man looked at him and said, "What is HE doing here?", implying that my partner was not welcome here because of how he looks. This is in addition to the stares, scowls, and rude attitudes from staff whenever we were in the facility. It only occurred when he was with me, and never when I was by myself. We have had numerous issues with other guests as well, acting as if they were above everyone else and being the gym's knight in shining armor, when in reality they were causing discourse and unnecessary conflict. I only recommend this outrageously expensive gym if you're white, have money to throw away, and have a god complex in need of being on display.
Dear swimswamswum,Unfortunately, we do not have any reference of your membership, nor have we been notified about the issues you have described. Please contact us at your earliest convenience so we can further discuss these concerns.Thank you.
Positive experience: This is a really nice clean facility with lots of extra amenities. I also like that there is a security car that drives around the parking lot. The problem with this gym is that the hours are really limited especially on the weekends. If you need late night workouts or want to swim after the dinner rush, this is not the place for you. The hours cater to those with mornings available and not to those that need late evenings. Additionally, the staff is not very friendly or welcoming. Otherwise, it’s a really nice, safe facility.
Negative experience: It's a nice and clean facility, but it's kind of pricey. I don't like their hours though. It's good for morning people but I'm more of an evening person and so they don't open late in the evenings.
Fantastic experience: Awesome gym!
Fantastic experience: Great workout facility, they keep it pretty clean in there from the locker rooms all over on the florist bathrooms well kept up. They even provide you with a towel
Fantastic experience: Staff is excellent, everyone is engaging and helpful. Instructors all very good and i am impressed by the quality of all personel
Fantastic experience: Clean inside easy to get around always see some one wiping down equipment and sweeping the floor
Fantastic experience: This gym is functional yet also has lots of extras you wouldn’t expect. We love the pools and indoor track. The childcare is fantastic and safe which was our primary focus when choosing a gym. The day spa is an added perk.
Fantastic experience: Pickleball friends are so much fun- great facilities.
Fantastic experience: By far the best fitness center on Knoxville. They have indoor and outdoor swimming pools, indoor and outdoor tennis courts, indoor basketball court, squash / racquetball courts, full fledged gym, indoor walking / running track etc. They offer over 100 instructor led classes like yoga, cardio dance, spin class, aquatics, cardio tennis etc. You could also opt for swim lessons, tennis lessons etc. but that has extra charges. For all the facilities they offer, their monthly price seems like a steal. During COVID, they are taking ample precautions.
Fantastic experience: My mom's gym, she loves it. They have classes for Parkinsons patients..
Fantastic experience: The facility is super clean, the trainers very good, staff is polite and the price super affordable. Also they have so many classes. I love it.
Fantastic experience: Love this place. So glad it is open. Very clean. Feel safe. Love the amenities, such as indoor and vhf outdoor pools and tennis courts. Staff is helpful and knowledgeable
Fantastic experience: Best place to be if you want to get in shape and be healthy. Employees are very understanding and are great at helping you with your workouts and getting healthy.
Fantastic experience: Fort Sanders has continued to impress me. The staff is friendly, it's reasonably priced for everything you get with the membership. What got me to write this review today was they're adding a new pickleball court. My special needs son absolutely adores playing pickleball with me on my days off work. We originally heard about when some woman was irrationally yelling at the GM for how dare you replace only 1 of the 10 tennis courts with pickleball, as if our feelings did'nt matter. I followed up with one of the managers to get more details and the nice young man explained to me that they were waiting on an exact date for their service company to give them, so they can give their members all the information they need. Fort Sanders, our family truley appriciates your professionalism and care for your members. You truely do NOT deserve these hate rants from these "Karens". My son has not stopped talking about the new court and we look foward to more information.
Fantastic experience: Clean facility and the staff is great. So glad I joined the fitness center.
Fantastic experience: Great staff, good facilities
Positive experience: Haven't ever been there but what I understand, they are outside my budget. Real shame they don't offer less expensive membership rates.
Negative experience: Outdated everything. It’s most likely thanks to the low membership dues preventing necessary upgrades from the front entry, gym facilities and the pools. The entire facility needs to be leveled and a lifetime fitness take its place.
Negative experience: I like the gym but since covid the cut the hours on week days I can't get there until 7 pm and they close at 8 pm but make you leave the area at 6:45 and weekends they close at 6pm and I am luckly if I can get there by 5pm and again they make you leave at 5:45 the they are not a cheP gym, but just like quite a few people that have a membership, they are gonna have to find another gym and so am I because of the hours, beside that I do like this gym but very unhappy with the hours
Negative experience: I have recently learned that a tennis court is going to be converted to a pickleball court. This was news to me, and was not clearly communicated to membership. I don't understand why this is being done, as it seems like there is plenty of room to build a pickleball court or two without having to take away a tennis court. The lack of timely communication from management regarding this decision, as well as the shortsightedness of this decision is frustrating and concerning. This is not the type of service I expect out of my membership at FSHFC, and I will reconsider my membership accordingly.
Negative experience: After being a member for several years and my family being a BIG tennis family; I would not suggest anyone coming to Ft. Sanders Health & Fitness to play tennis. In the past, I would have recommended it 100%. I was just made aware that they are trying to convert outdoor court #6 into a PERMANENT pickle ball court. I only found out by over hearing pickle ball players mention it. FSHFC DID NOT give ANY notice to members that are ultimately paying for the conversion w/their dues that are paid monthly. After learning about this and all the issues that a permanent pickle ball court would cause with the existing tennis program; I met with the General Manager. I explained to him that the tennis program JUST found out about the conversion within weeks of the project due to be done. We do not oppose the pickle ball opportunities at FSHFC at all-we want everyone to be able to play both; which is where we are currently. Outdoor court #6 has pickle ball tape and rollable nets so that BOTH tennis and pickle ball can be played on that court. The issues are: 1. Longer HS matches; with teens getting home at 9:00pm instead of 7:00pm and then having to eat dinner, shower and do homework. With only 5 courts available; HS tennis can't be as efficient. The format is 6 singles and 3 doubles. 2. You will no longer be able to efficiently hold multiple USTA matches outdoor either with only 5 courts available. 3. Tennis program is the money maker for FSHFC besides memberships-BUT you have to have a membership to play tennis. GM advised that it is simple: the high school tennis program can leave FSHFC and play at the new McFee Courts and that tennis needs to be ran on a strict schedule to get the kids out earlier. I made him aware that if your opponents are traveling from Blount County, etc. that timing is out of our control if they are late and that we have to have an opponent to actually play. No opponent=no play. GM advised that his "bread and butter" are memberships. He was ignorant when speaking on the topics of tennis and pickle ball, yet holds a position to make a decision WITHOUT notifying the members that their dues dollars are paying for it-when they are OPPOSED to it to begin with. Tommy Hodge and FSHFC keep their members in the dark on a lot of things: 1. The converting of court #6 to a permanent pickle ball court. 2. Raising the guest fee from $10 to $18 3. Raising their private tennis lesson fees from $50 to $55. All WITHOUT notice to the members. That is poorly ran and the members of FSHFC deserve to know where their dues dollars are going, the tennis program deserves to still thrive and the pickle ball program deserves the opportunity to play. There are currently 4 indoor courts that are taped and ready for pickle ball use w/moveable nets. There is one court outside (court #6) that is equipped to play pickle ball on as well. Whats the problem? Well, simply put=members are HAPPY right now. They get to play tennis and pickle ball. Why mess up something that works and profits as s business? It is simple: notify the members that PAY what their dues are being used for and let them have a voice. Members be ware! Potential members be ware! Multiple memberships will be lost over this process if it goes through in a few weeks from the top paying tennis families, unfortunately. I do want to be VERY clear. This review is written based on FSHFC as a business and has NO reflection of the tennis pros at the facility. Coach Dan is amazing with young kids and teaches them the fundamentals to grow as a tennis player. Coach Brian is amazing at coaching adults-as he is a very verbal coach and gives excellent feedback. Coach Trey is AWESOME with the teenagers and cares about each and every one of them very much. His style of coaching is nothing short of amazing. Mary and Jeff-also good pros for younger ones and adults. However, the Pros are "separated" but "controlled" by the business that is currently trying to make this decision without being heard from its members. It is poor business!
Positive experience: This is a nice place. The staff is kind and welcoming. They have an excellent fitness facility and a sauna and whirlpool. My kids enjoyed the children's area and they have something for everyone. Well worth the membership price!
Positive experience: Pros: Two heated pools, friendly staff, clean locker rooms Cons: Dated equipment, gym floor is very poorly laid out, expensive, convoluted membership policy All in all, glad that I was a member here for their pools, but will not be sad about leaving. At $65/month I'd expect more updated equipment, with a better lay out. Expect to have to pay for an extra month than you expect because its not a 'true' 30-day notice. Essentially the membership contract is you give notice on the 1st of the month to cancel the following month - even if you try and cancel before that. So if you try and cancel on say the 2nd of September you are locked in until the end of October. 3 stars for being just your average over priced gym.
Fantastic experience: We love this place! Everyone is helpful, friendly. It's all around great!
Fantastic experience: A nice escape for parents who want to relax in the spa or exercise. My kids love the mini pool and racketball courts.
Fantastic experience: Thank you for a great fitness assessment. Marshall was very professional and provided a lot of good information for my consideration. I left the assessment feeling very positive about the next step in building a more healthy lifestyle. Thank you!
Fantastic experience: I love everything about Fort Sanders Health & Fitness Center. The facility is A+ with the equipment, space, amenities and options that include indoor/outdoor pool and tennis court along with a basketball court and racquetball courts. The staff is top-notch, and personally, the childcare (which is included with the family membership) makes it possible for my wife and me to make it to the gym with two young kids at home. I also recommend taking advantage of the group classes that are included in your membership.
Fantastic experience: I've been a member for only 2-3 weeks and have never joined a gym before so I didn't know what to expect. I love it at Fort Sanders! The facility is amazing, the staff is super helpful and friendly and it is easy to get to from my home in West Knox. Just a short drive down the Pellissippi. I swim for exercise in the indoor pool but there is a heated outdoor pool that stays open until the end of November. The life guard is very friendly and knowledgeable and he works hard at maintaining the pools. The locker room is great! Clean and stocked with essentials such as shampoo, hair dryers, etc. I'm thrilled to be a member here and recommend this place highly.
Fantastic experience: The front desk personnel in the morning are always friendly and smiling and the instructors are all consistently great.
Fantastic experience: Love the variety of classes and rotation of teachers. Favorite classes are Barre with Linda G, pound with Allyson or Kristi and aqua fitness with Kristi, Katie. Or Dani. Thank you Fort Sanders for making fitness fun!

Fantastic experience: Fantastic facility. Everything you need in a fitness center.
Fantastic experience: Great gym, great people, outdated equipment and tvs don't work very well.
Negative experience: Very unfriendly front desk employees. We have been members at this fitness center for over 10 years and have never been impressed with the management or the way we are treated by the employees but we have kept our membership here due to the location. A woman by the name of Vicki works the front desk and she is one of the rudest, judgmental people I have ever met. Our family has even started coming to the gym at times when we know Vicki wont be working at the front desk just so we don't have to deal with her unpleasant attitude towards us as well as other guests. There are also other older women who work at the front desk to check you in that are very unprofessional and gossip as we walk by the front desk. Our family is getting sick of being treated this way for so long, especially when we have paid over $10,000 to this business over the years. We will be taking our membership elsewhere.
Positive experience: Good fitness center. However the pool is the most outdated pool I have seen ever especially for a high end club. It would be nice if they worried more about keeping the facilities upgraded and less about outdated rules like tattoos and piercing on employees. As someone who frequents Fitness Facilities I care more that the employees to do their job and more if The old outdated facilities are up-to-date. I think management at Fort Sanders fitness center needs an update in their thinking.
Negative experience: The facility is good in so many ways, but the front desk staff can be very unfriendly, rude, and preoccupied with gossip between them. They seem to be nicer to some people than others. We've never given them any reason to be unfriendly to us, but most of them have been from the beginning, and it's always been perplexing. Yet, we put up with it quietly. Some of them improved over time and became much more friendly. Yet, today I enter the facility for the first time in nearly 2 months due to the COVID business. I stand at the door and read the signs that are there on the table. One of those signs says members must wear masks. Why would that sign be there if they didn't want people to read it there? Yet, instead of a greeting, like, "Good morning, and welcome back. I'm sorry, but you'll have to have a mask to use this facility at this time.", I get treated like I have the plague and basically run out of the lobby. I don't understand why the same people are allowed to work at the front desk when there have been so many complaints about this. I don't want anyone fired, but they could repurpose them to desk jobs away from customers and put nicer people up front to greet customers properly. The high school girls that work there on weekends, nights, and in the summer ARE very friendly. You shouldn't dread walking into the gym lobby and be in a hurry to get past the workers there. If they're going to be that way, just create a robust self-checkin system and station a security guard there to make sure no one bypasses it. I would rather check myself in than deal with rude front desk staff who act like you, the paying customer, are lucky to have them even take your card and acknowledge your presence with a glance. Wrong. I'll go elsewhere.
Negative experience: A great place to work out overall though the front desk is incredibly unfriendly and rude. It is your privilege to have them check you in. I would much rather check myself in! They treated my husband like he had the plague this morning because he didn't have a mask on! We have been going here for years. Very disappointed. My husband is canceling his membership.
