Our comment from FitFit United States about Fitness Center at the Buffalo Grove Park District:

The Buffalo Grove Fitness Center is a fantastic community gym that offers a variety of amenities for all fitness levels. Located within the Buffalo Grove Park District, this center boasts:

  • A spacious layout featuring an indoor track and a large lap pool with five lanes.
  • Modern workout equipment that is well-maintained, ensuring a pleasant experience for users.
  • Clean facilities including locker rooms that offer towel service, shampoo, conditioner, and body wash.
  • Friendly and helpful staff, with many users praising their willingness to assist.
  • A diverse selection of group classes and activities, catering to various interests and fitness goals.
  • A welcoming atmosphere, making it a family-friendly environment.

While most reviews highlight the positive aspects of cleanliness and facility offerings, some users have experienced challenges with staffing, specifically noting occasional instances of rudeness among front desk staff. Nonetheless, the overall sentiment shines through with many members expressing their love for the facilities and the supportive community atmosphere. This place is definitely worth checking out for anyone looking to maintain a healthy lifestyle!

Negative experience: So I didn’t want to do this, because I love this gyms equipment and amenities but the Front desk lady snapped at me in front of everyone for waiting patiently for my turn this morning. I didn’t even say a word yet just stood on the side. When a different lady did the same thing I did, I could hear her being nice and pleasant with her explaining to sit while she waits. She always seems mad, rude, quick to conflict with me. She also assumed me and my friends were underage (we are in our late 20s) when we asked for help a different time. The first thing she said is “YOU MUST BE 25 TO SIGN UP”. I don’t understand why she can’t get some help from other front desk workers just Chilling on the side not doing anything.

Fantastic experience: One of the best facilities I’ve seen! Great!

Fantastic experience: Nice place for sports and profesional stuff

Positive experience: A good quality gym, but the pricing is simply absurd. The reasoning for it is that group classes are included, but that's pretty unfair for those with no interest in group classes. Don't really see the cost of membership reflected anywhere else when compared to other substantially more affordable gyms.

Fantastic experience: Excellent facilities, many classes, huge cardio and weights areas. I was in town for only a few days and this place had everything I needed and more to keep my routine. $15 for a day pass is a little steep for me, but it was worth it

Fantastic experience: Just joined a month ago. I love the gym. It’s clean, new equipment, friendly staff, and reasonably priced.

Alexander Issakoo 7 months ago

Positive experience: Excellent service. The location is perfect, and the facility is clean. I would easily say this is a five. However, the hours are inconvenient for anyone with kids and needs to work out late. Especially on the weekends and Fridays. I hope they consider later hours in the future as it used to be.

Negative experience: why parents are waking inside pool area in shoes from outside? i can even see dirt left. i walk here bare foot. what is going on? why employees don't even say anything? it is unacceptable

David Richard 10 months ago

Negative experience: I am a neighbor of villages and exciting places to be in here, unfortunately one thing is not understanding after reminding the proof of neighbors is the only view of the team and seems charged right away a couple hours. They reminded me telling that next time they should have the proof of the neighbors, but does not seem same as they think and do.

Fantastic experience: Staff and facility very nice. Locker rooms were clean with similar amenities to lifetime. Has steam room and access to pool and hot tub. Gym had plenty of free weight stations and machines. Went on a Saturday morning and moderately busy but everyone was cordial and respectful of equipment and other patrons. Would definitely recommend.

Fantastic experience: Our regular fitness center, Lakeview in Vernon hills, has been closed the whole week for refurbishment. We decided to check out another local center and we are glad we did! Kudos to Lucas, a super-friendly staff member who set us up with a free week-long trial. This place is big, has new equipment, and is amazing. Their pool area is huge, and they have 2 floors full of equipment and activities to help you be fit and healthy.

Fantastic experience: We recently moved to the area and heard great things about the facility. I primarily lap swim, so it was important to find a facility with good availability. While the commercial chains in the area look nicer and have better marketing, their rates were also 2-3x what Buffalo Grove Fitness Center charges. Highlights: - Facility is expansive and has an indoor track (1 lap = 1/12th of a mile), indoor lap pool (5 lanes total), and plenty of space for equipment and classes. - Staff at the front desk were friendly and helpful in giving me a tour. - Free 1-week free trial and they actually issued the membership photo card, even though it was for the free trial. If you decide to buy a membership, you can keep using the card. - The mobile app is pretty impressive for a public facility, and allows you to reserve lap swim times and other group classes covered under your membership. Also allows you to add your membership card to Apple Wallet making it easier to check-in. - Towel service included; showers have shampoo, conditioner, body wash. - Steam room in locker rooms; co-ed sauna out on the pool deck. While the monthly membership fee is a bit more than what I was paying at a previous swim-only facility, you do get the benefits of a full-service gym. Looking forward to supporting this local facility!

Positive experience: What I like the most in Buffalo Grove fitness centre. Family discount rates on monthly fee. Small towel for workout use and Big towel for shower available on the house (you neither have to bring from home nor have to pay for it) Apart from the usual equipments, amenities, Walking and running track on the first floor. Its airy and feels close to walking on road. Clean and nicely maintained men’s and women’s locker room (wife’s also a member :)) room. Both the locker rooms have showers and steam room. Pool section has a large 5 lane pool, warm water therapy pool, whirlpool and a coed Sauna (wood-coal) Ample parking space.

Fantastic experience: Great group exercise choices for every weekday. Pickleball courts available every day. Variety of equipment. This place is awesome.

Brian Slater 1 year ago

Positive experience: $15 for a day pass. They have a 2nd floor track, a pool, some free weights, weight machines, treadmills, and cycles. They do not have a turf, though. They have a lot more that I didn't see. Nice place, helpful people, good place to stop for a quick workout. Side bar: the majority of the free weights and machines seem slightly dated. They work well, but they are older.

Which even provide an indoor running track and crazy cool threadmills with 30 incline (!) My husband and I exersice alot and always sign up in gyms when we are away, but this is one of the best. Very flexible solutions for temporary users aswell

Jesse Lee 2 years ago

Negative experience: It's a mediocre gym. The price is absurd though even if you live in district. The price of the gym also includes classes but I know I'm never going to use the classes. Even with classes this is one of the most expensive gyms in the area. It's actually cheaper to sign up for the Wheeling or any other municipality gym as an out of resident than to sign up for here as in resident. The month to month price is $80 each month. Their cancellation policy is also excessively predatory for a government entity. If you cancel you can't sign back up for another year unless you want to pay their fine which if I recall was something like $120 fine. Their policy also is kind of crazy too because it states they can take away your membership without a refund? So if you did pay $900 for an entire year and you get kicked out within the first month your out of it. They also will only auto renew your membership you can't have them not renew at the end which again is also extremely predatory especially for a government entity. The membership also doesn't include unlimited guest privileges. You can only bring a guest in twice a month. The facility itself is also absurdly limited with all the wrong equipment. They lack free weight or cable machines instead they opt to have these faddish machines I've never seen anyone ever use. I'm probably not going to renew my membership will most likely go to a commercial gym like Xsport or Wheeling Park District gym which as an out of resident member which is cheaper than being a BG gym member as in residence.

Kirill Goldin 2 years ago

Negative experience: Very overpriced for what you get, and a limited guest policy ensures you practically can never bring out of town family with you if anyone visits you more than once per year. The weight equipment itself is uncomfortable, unmaintained, and lacking in diversity. Often times all it takes is a single person lolligagging on their phone to hog up a station to ruin an entire workout and there's a serious lack of dumbbells in the actual popular range of 20-70 pounds. Pool is clean but you can't just go workout "willy nilly whenever you want" (actual quote from staff), but have to reserve ahead. Mind you that gyms are exactly for working out. Even though lanes are first come first serve and the pool has never once been full in my 3x/week for the past year swims. If you wake up and decide you want to get a good start to your day, or change up the daily workout, or do water stretches to get rid of some pain that showed from the previous day's work, you better deal with that on your own ahead of when you need to deal with it.

Lori Lapping 2 years ago

Fantastic experience: I love the pool and the people...BUT, seriously, if you are a swimmer PLEASE don't spit into the drain thinking it doesn't go into the pool!!! That is so nasty! And it would be great if the water aerobic teacher would be on time so that when they close the lanes to the swimmers it isn't 10 minutes before the class even starts (she is NEVER on time!!! ) One more rant...The showers and locker room are NOT your home....please don't clean out your comb/brush in the shower and leave your hair in the drain, ALSO NASTY!!!! And rude! The lovely people who clean up are not your personal maids and don't need to be cleaning up after you...This is a wonderful place for our community, let's keep it nice! Just common curtesy !!!

Positive experience: The center itself is okay and pretty clean for the most part but the front desk staff is terrible and rude. I would expect a little more for what they charge for the monthly dues. When I went to pick up my key card for the first time a woman named Cheryl ( who should NOT be in customer service) was SO rude that if I hadn't already signed up I would have gone to sky fitness or Lifetime. She did not ask me if I knew where anything was and her tone was so rude I felt the need to write a review. Not a great start to a new gym.

Fantastic experience: great fitness facility with indoor track, yoga, pilates, basketball and pickle ball courts, sauna, steam, hot tub, warm pool and lap pool. The facility was recently updated. There are many classes catering to all types of activities. It is located in the one of the many Buffalo Grove Park District parks so there are also nearby outside facilities such as a splash pad, basketball, hockey, pickleball and skate park. The photo is of the Buffalo Grove Days festival which is held on the grounds. With the Covid pandemic, the Buffalo Grove Fitness Center modified to insure the safety of all members. Strong protocols are being followed and the equipment has be rearranged to provide significant social distancing. The staff is very diligent about cleaning.

Maureen Reilly 5 years ago

Negative experience: I have been a member for about 18 months. The general overall cleanliness dropped off pretty dramatically in the last 6ish months. Complained 3x over a one week long period about one particular grossness in the locker room. Front desk gal told me they can't communicate with the cleaning crew and kinda shrugged her shoulders. Sadly, going to be moving on to a new place.

Negative experience: People at the front desk were nice. But had a horrible experience with a staff member. She was rude, impolite and made offensive personal remarks against me. I complained about her and just quit the place. The have my doubts about the review above. The above reviewer is a social strategist. I donot know if the above reviewer was asked to post good reviews about this fitness center. Just google his name and you will find out. Stay away from this place and find a less expensive gym where people do treat you well.

Negative experience: We were going to pool family hour every weekend for about a year. Now we have to switch the pool to Vernon Hills (cheaper by the way) because new guards are rude and unagreeable. Our daughter was afraid to use therapy pool unless we were standing very close to her because of the guard. 16 years boy was making inappropriate comments and ruined our weekend. We never coming back there.

Gray GhostRunner 7 years ago

Negative experience: Runners beware: you may be tempted to join to use the indoor track to escape bad weather, but you’re better off braving the elements rather than the unsafe and unpleasant conditions at this facility. On the surface, the center has every advantage to deliver a great experience. This is the largest indoor track in the area, with the two outside lanes reserved for runners, and there’s a large space at one end that was once wide-open for runners to warm up. When the center first opened, the track was a welcome alternative to treadmills, and very popular with the local running community. Over time, conditions have deteriorated to the point where the track is virtually unusable by intermediate or advanced runners. Club policies from lane designations to cell phone use are not only not enforced, but management sides with violators over runners who are trying to do their workouts. It’s one thing to change lanes to pass slower runners, which is to be expected; or even to pass a herd walking three abreast; it’s quite another to be rounding a curve while dodging someone who’s sitting with their legs crossed out over the running lanes of the track while they’re texting on their phone. The warmup area at the west end of the track has become a dumping ground for the facility’s past-prime machines, making it difficult for runners to conduct a decent warmup routine without knocking into equipment. Because of the placement of that extra equipment, lines of sight for people leaving the area to get back on the track in the middle of that curve are limited, and near-collisions are all too common. And, even if you’re able to find some floor space, you’ll have a wonderful view of rotted mats, rusted pipes, and dust bunnies that look like living incarnations of the bubonic plague. Unfortunately, when you share your concerns or opinions, management and staff are alternately unresponsive, dismissive, or argumentative. This is true in all communications channels from the suggestion box to in-person interaction to email to telephone, and up all the way through the chain to the Buffalo Grove Parks Department which currently runs the facility. They simply do not care. After one recent incident, this nearly-20-year member finally decided that I no longer care either, and I closed out my membership and very reluctantly bought a home treadmill. I hate treadmills. But there was no staying there. All of this is why most of the runners who used to crowd the track are long gone.

Kumar Changavar 7 years ago

Positive experience: Not a very high profile fitness place, but more middle class. Lot of options to work out. Friendly staff. The locker rooms are clean but can use an upgrade. Not very modern amenities and non tech savvy place.
