Our comment from FitFit United States about National Fitness Center:

Welcome to the National Fitness Center in Knoxville, where our members enjoy a spacious and well-equipped facility. With a variety of amenities, including a movie theater, multiple pools, and a welcoming childcare area, we strive to create an enjoyable environment for families and fitness enthusiasts alike.

Many members appreciate our friendly staff, who are always ready to assist and create a positive atmosphere. The gym is less crowded than other facilities, offering more room for workouts and access to our premium equipment. Our wonderful childcare service has received praise for its caring staff, making it easier for parents to focus on their fitness goals.

However, some users have voiced concerns about the maintenance of our equipment and facilities. We are committed to addressing these issues, as member satisfaction is a priority. While many appreciate the range of options available, there are indications that certain areas, particularly the pools and locker rooms, need more attention.

We acknowledge our membership contracts can be complex, and we are actively working to improve the cancellation process for those in need. Despite this, our members frequently highlight the value of the services provided, particularly our diverse classes and the quality of our personal trainers.

Thank you for considering National Fitness Center as your fitness destination. We are dedicated to enhancing your experience and providing a supportive community for your wellness journey.

Negative experience: NFC uses unethical tactics to trick clients into signing lengthy contracts! Don’t trust them! They will say to contact their review department to resolve complaints but don’t do anything to resolve the predatory practices. Don’t believe anything they advertise! Beware! Many people have complained for good reason!

Negative experience: This used to be a good place before the new management took over. Now the gym is cold, especially the cardio theater, which also needs work due to screen and sound. What are my "facility improvement fees" going towards? Can you turn on the heat? I've been coming here for 10 years so I know how things used to be.

National Fitness Center

Hi Ryan. We really appreciate the feedback. We'll be in touch with the club’s management team to address these concerns.

Negative experience: I wish there was a zero star review. I have been trying to cancel my membership for months. I explained my situation to just about every person I have contacted and still they refuse to cancel by membership. I provided proof I no longer live near a facility but was told my proof was insufficient. They offered a buy out of my contract which I can't afford. This company is heartless. Do not sign up for a membership here.

Hi Veronica. We're sorry to hear that this is your impression. We'd be happy to have our Member Care team review your account and work towards a resolution. Please email us at [email protected] with the best number and time to contact you.

Fantastic experience: The childcare is compassionate and sweet with great workers. The facility is clean. Kenna did a wonderful job with my consultation and even gave me her personal workout plan as a fellow mom of two littles getting back into fitness. We also love taking our littles to swim at night in the winter. Really good value for the price of a membership with options for the whole family!

National Fitness Center

We're so glad to hear that you've had a great experience with our childcare, Caitlyn! We really do love our mini-members. Thank you for your review!

Negative experience: There’s a bunch content out there right about how this business is “under new management.” They pretty have the worst reputation of any business in the area. I’ve been a member for a while now. Never missed a payment, never been late. This past month I got a new debit card. I tried to update it in their app and the app wouldn’t work correctly. By the time I could get into the club a couple days later, I’d been charged a fee that was over 50% of the cost of my membership. $35 for being late one time because their app wouldn’t work. I reached out via email almost a week ago now to address the issue and they never even contacted me back. All their new sponsored ads are being ridiculed and for good reason. Go anywhere else.

Negative experience: I’m not usually a review kind of person but this business is exceptionally bad. I got roped into a 3 year contract when I mentioned I only wanted a one year contract which the GM agreed to and switched when signing paperwork. I had a money situation within my first thirty days of the contract so I requested a cancellation (which the contract says I am allowed within thirty days of beginning) and he told me he was unable to perform that for me so I was stuck making payments for three years. I’m finally to the end of my three year contract and I’ve called several times to find out steps to cancel since they have switched to a month to month membership away from contracts. Each time I called I couldn’t get a direct answer on the process and when I finally got given a corporate number, I ended up on a line that was a robot and hung up on me twice. I finally got in touch with someone today and now that I am within thirty days of my contract ending I’m required to pay another month worth of membership. I have told every single person who has thought of getting a membership that it is a waste of money and a horrible gym. If you want my complaints about the gym itself, they have a plethora of treadmills which I rarely saw get used to the full capacity meanwhile the weightlifting equipment (which most people seemed to be there for) were almost always in use. So if you wanted to workout for an hour, plan to be at the gym for several because there’s usually only one or two machines for preference and a smaller selection of weights than cheaper gyms in the area offer. The gym itself is fine and clean but it may as well be with the over priced membership they charge. If you plan to get a membership here think otherwise and please find a better gym in the area for a cheaper price, I promise you’ll have a better experience.

Negative experience: At Signature West, there is a monthly fee to use the Red Light bed, but it has needed bulbs for almost a year. Half the bulbs are dead, the rest are dull. Also: - Need more mats in Stretch/Ab room - It has been extremely cold in the gym Been a member for 10 years, but thinking of going to a new gym unfortunately.

Negative experience: Horrendous experience for the past two months straight! Mon-Fri there is an opening front desk attendant named Jennifer! Never triggered a reason to be treated so bad in my life! From first encounter to today Jan 6th 2025, is straight attitude, motions with hands instead of words, and personal phone over customer service every single time I have a question or need service. I’m only writing this because I finally asked ANOTHER service member if there’s anyone else experiencing this and they said theirs constant complaints of attitude and disrespect from members but the manager Rob won’t do anything because she’s a FEMALE! The signature club is going down the hill for quite some time but this tops it for me

Negative experience: I realize this place does contracts, or at least they did when we signed up. We signed a 3 year contract. After paying our membership for over 2 years, they would not let me cancel our membership unless we paid a $250 fee and the following month’s payment of about $120. We’re so tight, I couldn’t do that. Even after explaining I wanted to cancel due to incurring some serious medical debt we’re struggling to pay off. National Fitness Center will be a constant reminder of one of the poor financial choices I made as a husband & father, allowing us to sign a lengthy contract with a gym. At least we learned our lesson. ‍♂️ (EDIT) I replied to the email listed below, got response. They’re just replying to reviews to have good PR but not actually doing anything about it.

Negative experience: Huge facility but not much equipment and the lap pool is not even good. Maintenance also takes weeks to fix small issues. Really not enough to make this place worth over $50 dollars a month. I’ve seen more value at $15 a month gyms.

Negative experience: Cons: Maintenance issues that remain ignored. 1) woman’s sink leaks and a rag stays wrapped around it as if that fixes it. It’s been that way about 6 mos. 2) The light bulbs over the woman’s sink has been out for nearly 3 years! 3) broken lockers hanging on its hinges 4) TVs were not available for over a month and are usually only half in use. Even the clocks on the walls are wrong. 5) Pool/family changing area ALWAYS smells like dirty diapers and urine from the changing table and diaper bin. One cannot change in there without gagging. No Access to basketball during any prime time because it’s rented out with kids being bussed in droves for cheerleading, volleyball etc ! This is why we left another gym to come here and use the basketball court but there is no reason to advertise it because it’s used around the clock for non members that fill up the bathrooms and foyer with screaming kids. And then the pick up line outside the gym blocks all traffic sitting at front door like a school pick up zone! This wasn’t the presentation when we joined! Members that drop huge weights up on top floor are never told to stop as it’s against the rules and very disruptive downstairs! Children use equipment and cardio area and employees never speak up to implement the rules. The music is a variety but at times screams loud rap and very distasteful music that is what you hear in a golds not an expensive fitness club such as this one. Over the years , we’ve witnessed people walk in and not scan their card and just get away with no contact with the front desk . Sometimes the employee was sitting at the table and never looked up for anything. Occasionally we’d watch them walk straight into the courts with their own basketball and no one cared. While we pay 10x the price of the local gym monthly. For the most part .. I’d expect this at a lower caliber gym where you pay $10-15 month. When we pay what we do we expect it to stand out as much above the average and it’s gone down hill for years.

Positive experience: I'm honestly shocked by all the negative reviews, I have had nothing but great experiences so far. And bonus: all the body balance teachers are absolutely fabulous. My ONLY complaint so far is that there are only 3 exercise bikes in the gym area, and none of them are very hood but other than that specific machine, everything has been amazing so far Actually my other complaint is just that they are not open 24 hours, or at the very least , open late on weekends like they are during the week..

Positive experience: I’m going to give this place 3 stars instead of one for now because I’m in the process of cancelling with them, and depending how they handle that I will add or subtract stars. I’m a professional athlete and at the time a single mother, so I needed a place with childcare so I could accomplish my strength training. I’ve been to many gyms across the US and also own one in Colorado so I’m giving my experienced feedback. The childcare: my child is 1.5 years old. She can be needy, and misses her mama. Totally normal behavior, but anytime she made a peep or wanted the staff to play with her they would call me. Two separate occasions I came to pick her up and she had a crayon in her mouth and one time a colored pencil. I’ve worked in daycare before and while this is not a certified daycare facility, age groups should be separated for developmental purposes. The older kids should be able to color/draw and the babies don’t need access to that stuff. I’m not a big fan but I am grateful to the staff who did love on my baby girl making her feel comfortable, but it was luck of the draw. The pool: we only went once but my toddler had fun, so as long as it’s open I think it’s good. For what members pay it wouldn’t be hard to offer towels though, the amount of up charges this place does is not member friendly. The gym: I loved the performance fitness section (CrossFit type). I got all my lifts done there and enjoyed it. I also ran a lot. The treadmills are hit and miss, some are broken but no sign on them, clunky belts etc. I loved the sauna, and it was never over packed, always hot. The bathroom was mostly clean. The staff was always friendly to me as well. Contract: When I signed up I made it clear I might be returning to Colorado, and the agent who signed me up assured me it was an easy process to cancel with proof of address etc. I have all that proof and just started this process today. So I will update this review based on how this goes. I see others have had a difficult time. The 3 year agreement is highway robbery tbh but as a gym owner myself I know that I signed up for it so it’s nothing I can do but do the cancellation process.

Negative experience: This is a horrible place! You don't want to get involved with them. I called to make payment arrangements for someone I'm helping and I talked with a woman named Stacey. She didn't start by giving her name. I had to ask for it and I'm not sure that's it. She began by almost screaming at me. I'm an older senior and this was difficult. She gave me the necessary information I needed to remedy this. She continued in the loud hateful voice as if to intimidate me. I've never belonged to this gym and I would advise any family member or friend not to sign any agreement with them. You don't want to go through this.

Negative experience: SCAM. Was told my membership was cancelled in April of 2023. They’ve charged my account over $100/month for more than a year after they said my membership was cancelled. After two months of having no money left to pay them, they threaten to send to collections.

Negative experience: The staff are rude, it's impossible to cancel, they will straight up lie to you when you sign up and then send it collections Also, childcare is a lie. They do not watch the kids at all and page you if the kid makes any sound at all

Erin Milligan 6 months ago

Negative experience: National Fitness Center is the worst gym I have ever been a member. I signed up for three years and completed that contract. I called West Signature weeks ago to cancel my membership as my contract had been fulfilled and they stated I needed to speak with manager and was placed on hold. I was then told the manager was on a tour and I would need to call back. I remembered to call back today and they stated now they need a 30-day notice and I must go to the gym to meet with the manager to cancel an already expired contract. Not to mention they charge a maintenance fee above the normal expensive membership two times a year of $25 per person which is ridiculous when their membership fees are already high as it is which is applicable on the July payment which is due tomorrow. This gym has been nothing but problems for my family. Every time we go in, a message plays that there is a message on my account. That message is that my son is too young to tan. This is annoying and always alerts the staff to a normally self check-in process. They advertise that they have basketball gyms and tennis courts however they rent those spaces out to private clubs so they are not available for paying members. Also, the Merchants location once told my son that he was not able to use the weights until after he was 16 years old and we had to home without working out that morning all because she got the rules wrong. We called corporate and they did nothing but correct the employee with no compensation for our hassle even with the high membership fees. We pay almost $5 per day and $7 per day on the two months of year they charge a maintenance fee. Please do yourself a favor and never sign up with them. They will never let you go.

Positive experience: I love the wide range of available options here. The provided mats need to be replaced and the hot tub was gross one time that I went in and I have never gone back in. I also wish I could book appointments for stretching, personal trainers etc. entirely online. With today's technology, there is no excuse. Aside from those small complaints, it is a really nice gym - especially with the child care and an indoor track. I have gone to Planet Fitness and Gold's Gym, and I would recommend the National Fitness Center over those two.

National Fitness Center

Hi Natalie. We really appreciate the feedback. We'll be in touch with the club’s management team to address these concerns.

Negative experience: This place couldn’t care LESS about their members. If you have to cancel because you lost your job, can’t pay for your house, totaled your car, undergoing medical issues, whatever it is they do NOT care. The only way you can actually get out of your contract is if you are moving and even then they require proof of your new residence, AND new place of work…. On top of that I was told you STILL have to pay $195…. Truly baffling. They really know how to burn bridges with their loyal members. They won’t even help by lowering your monthly payment to supplement making cancelling your membership nearly freaking impossible. Once my contract ends in December they can expect to lose a loyal member for good. Good thing Crunch Fitness is opening in Fountain City! ;)

Negative experience: I love this gym, but this has GOT to change. I pay an arm and a leg just to even be here. On top of that, the aquatic center is disgusting! Rusty slides, dirty pools, the list goes on! I didn't mind until a piece of metal (shown) went into my foot! For the amount I pay, they clearly don't know how to upkeep the pools.

Fantastic experience: Fantastic Gym, helpful staff, a lot of amenities, great family environment. Highly recommended

Bryan Guckian 7 months ago

Negative experience: Do not sign up unless you never want to leave this gym. You are locked in for 3 years, cancellation requires the sacrifice of your left arm and a thousand virgins. Obvious exaggeration, but seriously, you can only cancel if you physically move away from the gym, and then you pay an additional fee, provide proof of new residence, and send it all via certified mail. Oh yeah, once the contract is complete and you think you're out of it, you're wrong. Their contracts apparently auto renew, even if you request to get out at the completion of the contract before it expires. I guess that's one way to keep membership numbers up.

Sadeer Kado 8 months ago

Negative experience: Would have given it 0 if possible but they don’t let you and if you come with your own 21 year old sister they don’t let you and they kick you out even if your a member for 3 years and that was never mentioned before.

David Rogers 8 months ago

Negative experience: This place absolutely will not work with you at all if you need financial help. Had some unexpected expenses come up and needed to freeze my account for 2 or 3 months. They offered to freeze it but said I still had to pay. What's the point of freezing then?! Signed me and my wife to a 3 year contract. Come to learn, they had an 18 month option that was not disclosed to us. We both transferred jobs that are now 45 minutes away and are stuck with them for one more year. No way to cancel. Most gyms offer you a cancellation fee to be able to cancel. Not them. They will not work with you at all financially. And for the monthly price plus bi-annual maintenance fees, It's absurd how dirty the gym is, how many pieces of equipment are broken, how long they stay broken, how many times and length of times the sauna, steam room and hot tubs are not working. Nobody seems to know how to make anything at the Juice Bar. They are definitely ALL about Sales and money. ZERO customer service. I am so very disappointed. We will not be renewing our contract when it comes time. There's a reason they have a 3.6 Google rating and getting worse. Do not sign up here.

Negative experience: Unfortunately, interpersonal issues with an individual on staff was most disheartening to me. There was unfortunately some tension. I value my friendships and respect the needs of theirs but sadness is the result of a disagreement. It is always best to resolve a disagreement or misunderstanding when it is smaller rather than letting it " fester". I am still a member of the gym in good-standing but it shows the human side of people. I had a bad experience at a class on dance additionally in January of January 2022. While this gym does encourage a sense of "relationship" , not an easy thing to accomplish.i would suggest better and more effective communication to avoid this but this is our world and our mission to accomplish.

fred kusterbeck 9 months ago

Negative experience: Buyers beware contracts are extremely predatory!!!!!. I’m not one for leaving bad reviews to business but this is beyond ridiculous. I signed a 18 month contract with the gym because it’s the lowest they offer to come to find out that they have in their records it was a 36mon contract. Idk who in there right mind would sign a 36mo contract with a gym but far be it from to do so. I told them I wiuld not pay that either there records are mistaken or whoever it’s was that I did the contract did some shady sleight of hand with my signing process. I was threatened with a lawsuit if I didn’t not payout my contract.

Alexandria Kelley 9 months ago

Negative experience: ITS A SCAM, RUN!!!!! These people will NOT let you cancel your TWO YEAR membership no matter what you say or do. I told the manager when I signed up that I was living in Knoxville for only a few months and he said “it’s fine you can just cancel it when you move” but I’ve done everything they ask and they won’t cancel my membership. I moved all the way to FLORIDA and they won’t cancel it. GET THIS.. they confirmed my move and changed it on my profile and are sending me letters IN FLORIDA saying I have to pay them!!!! There is not a NFC in 655 miles of me and they confirmed that and STILL won’t let me cancel my membership! STAY FAR FAR AWAY FROM THESE PEOPLE IM WARNING YOU. This is the biggest scam and I will be reporting them to the better business bureau because I KNOW for a fact I’m not the only one they have done this to. ITS A SCAM!

donavan berry 9 months ago

Positive experience: When signing up there is a 18 month contract or 3 year, so if you are signing up here prepare to be committed to this place, but I think compared to every other gym it is a 100% worth it. They have a lot more to offer like a pool, basketball court and indoor track. Numerous machines that give you a variety in your workout routine. I would make it 5 stars if the equipment was a little better maintained. Some of them have rust on them and you have to press down all the weight to change it. Since the gym has so many people going im sure the equipment wears down fast though. Also their child care either needs more people watching the kids or needs a limit. We brought our kids to it on a Saturday and there were kids packed in like sardines with 3 people watching them. You could tell they were overwhelmed and should be able to tell us as parents they reached maximum capacity.

Positive experience: The childcare staff is great, the facility is nice, but maintenance, and upkeep of equipment seems low on the priority list.

Jennifer Tarpeh 10 months ago

Negative experience: Not happy with the Kids in Motion program. I signed up for my 4 year old but they never actually have the classes. Only a few times have they even attempted any class during the time on the calendar and usually just a class they make up not the ones advertised. Even the childcare staff seem unaware when I point out what class is scheduled for her age level. Not only am I paying extra a month they restarted my contract. I am basically paying for NOTHING! And can't go to the YMCA for another 2.5 years because they restarted my contract. False Advertising!

Steven Hensley 10 months ago

Negative experience: You can get out of a timeshare contract easier than national fitness. Mail a hand written letter in that they will claim they never received or cancel with the manager who is never available. Just super shady business practices looking to take advantage of people.

Sarah Mullen 10 months ago

Negative experience: Do not join this gym. I was transferred for my job across the country to Washington state and while I only had a couple of months left on my contract, they refused to work with me and charged me $700 to leave. Do not give these people your credit card number because they are going to charge you whatever they. They absolutely refused to work with me in this situation. It's not even a very good gym. Not much to offer if you're serious about body building. I would look for a place with better customer service. Total thumbs down experience all the way

Negative experience: Good until you break up with them, then they screw you over and mess up your credit score. I offered to settle the balance THEY caused and they wouldn't without a significant penalty for THEM not making the final autopay withdrawal. Apparently this is not an isolated case. Again, good until they screw you over.

Negative experience: Be Aware if you are a student with a possibility of relocating. The cancellation process is tedious and you have to pay about 5 months wirth of membership to cancel. Also you have to mail in a letter of intent just to cancel as they don't take verbal or online request. Very bad experience!

Joshua Castle 11 months ago

Fantastic experience: Tyler was an excellent Agent in handling my onboarding and was very honest, transparent, swift at getting me signed up. I am paying less than I was at my previous gym with WAY more access, and benefits at this one. Thank you, Tyler!

Negative experience: *UPDATE* went back to talk about membership deals that they supposedly had for New years, and there were no deals. Plus, the front desk lady was very unprofessional. Once again, STAY AWAY, save yourself time, and just go sign up at Planet Fitness or somewhere else *UPDATE* Tried signing up for a membership, and they wanted a ridiculous price for a very long-term contract. I didn't sign anything. Stay far away from this gym, I even took a tour of their gym, and most of their machines were broken or ragged. Sad to say, planet fitness is better pricing, better machines, and better contracts. STAY AWAY.

Negative experience: FUN Pool heater is always out and now it's closed. No wonder so many kids are in the fitness pool. They gladly charge their yearly maintenance fees but can't spend it to keep their pools up Someone needs to investigate what they actually spend those fees on

National Fitness Center

We're very sorry to hear that this has been your experience, Devin. We have shared this feedback with our operations team.

Negative experience: I have tried to schedule the Styku body scan multiple times, over 5 times. I have a very busy work schedule and it’s difficult to align with the PT people’s schedule. Needless to say my dad and I Finally got an appointment with Gavin. He called my mother (neither me or my father) and said he needed to “leave for personal reasons” and rescheduled us for the following day at 12. Ok great so we get here the following day and the front desk personnel says that “Gavin left; he shot you an e-mail that the machine is down”. First of all I never got an email. Second, when you communicate with someone the day of an appointment you do not “email” them. And 3rd the machine was not down!! So I waited to speak to the manager who was apparently “busy”. This gym is a joke. Do not waste your money. This is why they have 3.6 stars. Go somewhere else. You should try Club 4. They have a new location in cedar bluff and one off western avenue. They’re amazing and attentive

Amy Elliott 1 year ago

Positive experience: Nice gym but don’t go there if you want to use the pools. The kids pool is frequently broken, so after loading up all your kids and their gear and towels and and… 1/2 times the heat pump is broken. Also, the lap pool is frequently contracted out to swim teams that take up prime times (like 4-6pm) during the week. Also, the lap pool is just gross and poorly maintained… I’m usually having to swim around globes of hair

Fantastic experience: The West Knoxville NFC is the best health club I have ever belonged to, and I've been working out in gyms for over 50 years in five states. The facilities are clean, the equipment is in good working order, there is an astonishing variety of equipment available, and the staff uniformly friendly and helpful. And the cost is extremely reasonable--I pay less than I had been paying for a previous gym with far fewer amenities. I'll be a member here for the foreseeable future!

National Fitness Center

This review means so much to us, Jacob. Thank you for taking the time to share this great feedback. We're happy to hear that you and your family are enjoying your National Fitness Center membership!

Negative experience: Went in for a tour and more information since you can't get family pricing online. Front desk didn't seem too excited to help. Had to put it all of our information and have picture made just for a tour. Told to sit and wait and ended up leaving because no one ever came to get us or acknowledge us again.

Negative experience: Steam room and sauna is always dirty. Locker room nasty. Things are broken and not fixed in a timely manner. Still a better gym in Knoxville. But that’s not saying much.

Negative experience: One of the reasons we chose National Fitness Center was the child care option. It makes it possible for us to workout while giving our child a safe place to be. So why then would the service be arbitrarily removed during the holidays? This is frustrating and disappointing. I'm glad we are at the end of our contract because at this point it seems like National Fitness Center does a lot of bait and switch tactics, all while try to get us to spend more money. Not impressed. Would not recommend. The only reason I give 2 stars is because the facilities that are not falling apart are pretty decent.

Katie Mitchell 1 year ago

Negative experience: It's a big facility but the pools are so poorly maintained that I got a rash whenever I went. In my opinion it wasn't worth the money since the aquatic classes weren't usable due to the water quality, other classes were frequently full, you couldn't tell when the movies in the movie theater room were going to start, and there's no bring-a-friend option.

H J 1 year ago

Negative experience: We find it hard to be able to go to the gym on the weekends. Because, during the week we are able to come until 12. Weekends our schedule does not allow us to be able to go to the gym in the hours that they are open. For example today is Sunday, the hours today are until 7?!? 7?!!!!! Prime example: don’t even get off work, then unable to go to the gym that I pay for because they are closed.

mr seva 1 year ago

Positive experience: superb facility. Certainly the crown jewel in their clubs in this area. The staff is generally helpful although recently, when I had terrible sciatica and was walking the long distance to get to the locker room, I had to stop and set my bag down three or four times. Staff members walked by without even noticing me. I certainly needed help and no one offered to simply help carry my bag. There is no accommodation for helping me, who cannot walk well, to get to the locker room and the therapy pool. Professionalism in the building seems to be toward the look and feel, but not necessarily service. For people that are in great shape, this is not a problem. For those of us in more challenged conditions, there is an air of indifference. I know that it is difficult to find people who really understand service positions these days. A lot of millennials seem to have a certain indifference towards themselves and others. This is a ridiculous generalization, I realize, but for comparison, take GenZ. They are quite different, and generally more compassionate. A customer and a member of the fitness center should not have to ask for help when it is clear that they need some. This is not just about me, I have witnessed this on 2 other occasions with other older members who were having difficulty walking through the beautiful vast lobby and building to get all the way to the back where the locker rooms are. NFC is a very professional and profoundly prepared space for taking care of your body. I do wish that the staff had a broader perception of service to their members. The entire organization offers excellent prices for a superb facility.

Will 1 year ago

Negative experience: EDIT: Most broke my leg on one of their cardio cycles. It's the only one foot straps, so yeah never mind this place is dangerous. It's got pretty good facilities, but honestly the contract just makes it not worth it. The only way to get out of it is if you die. There's about 5 or 6 machines in the main workout area that are out of order and been so for weeks. Also, they really need to add bottle filling stations instead of 25 year old fountains.

Anonymous Student 1 year ago

Negative experience: NFC has gone downhill in the past year, 1 year ago today it wasn’t this bad, the gym has likely tripled in occupancy all while machines continue to be under repair and never fixed. One water fountain has been out of order for one year and counting, the chin/dip assist machine is disgusting and covered in oil on the handles, every single machine or area is jam packed with people even as late as 10pm on a weekday, as I write this at night I am sitting in the gym unable to hit the bench because everyone is full. It has gotten way too crowded without the gym expanding or machines being fixed. The pools have gotten disgusting, and everything other than staff friendliness has gone downhill, its the only thing they got going for them, I definitely will not be renewing my contract when the term comes up here soon. I do not recommend this gym at all, it looks good at face value but in reality you will likely live to regret it not to mention the long contracts.

Fantastic experience: Best gym I have ever been to. It is huge. They even have a movie theater with a lot of aerobic equipment, a cycling room, a climbing room, lots of equipment, pools, Jacuzzi, aerobic classes, stretching room, and many more. Also, personal training, customized stretching sessions, etc. The personnel are wonderful. You can sign up for a free pass in their website. Amazing!

Negative experience: Free guest pass online. Go there with a friend to play basketball and they charge me $40. The guy at the desk was trying as hard as possible to be an alpha. Jimmies were rustled. Ended up paying and got beat 6 times in a row. When I asked him About free guest pass he said “we’re going to have to give you a tour for that and the wait time is going to be really long” in an attempt to discourage us from going in free. They constantly spam my phone with texts about joining. About time I let them know that they have some of the worst customer service I’ve encountered.

National Fitness Center

Hello James, we're so happy you enjoy using our basketball court. We do offer free passes online for those wishing to try out our amenities and facilities in hopes they like what they experience and wish to continue utilizing them with a membership to our fitness centers. Yes, those with free passes are meant to take a tour to show them all our fitness centers have to offer so they don't miss out on anything. We have a daily drop-in rate available to those that wish to just use the gym for the day at a rate of $20.

Negative experience: Small children playing on the equipment with no parental supervision . Floor is unsupervised so anything goes. I encourage the owner to review surveillance , if they have any, from today between 3:30pm to 5pm. A side from the liability issues, working out next to an unsupervised 7 year old is a bit uncomfortable.

National Fitness Center

Kristy, first of all, thank you for being a loyal member with us. Secondly, thank you for bringing this issue to our attention. We do have rules in place about who is able to be where in our facilities, unfortunately, there are guests or members that may not adhere to our rules. Please report this to the front desk when witnessed so that we can correct it in real-time. We are sorry for the inconvenience and will be addressing this with all our staff to make sure they are doing frequent sweeps to make sure there are no unattended children. If you'd prefer to call, our number is 865-470-3600. Once again thank you for letting us know about this situation.

Fantastic experience: Vanessa and Jo changed my life. They are both fantastic trainers and stretch coaches, just wonderful people. Neyland Harmon 1 year ago

Negative experience: After being members at NFC for ~7 years, we finally decided to cancel. On January 7th, a member at the front desk said no managers were there to help with cancelling the membership, but there would be a manager there on the 8th "during normal business hours." On the 8th, there was no manager there. On the 9th, there was a manager there, and we were able to cancel our membership with our final date of access to the gym being 1/17/23. On the 17th, we were required to pay our final monthly membership fee and a $75 "maintenance fee" that covers from 1/17/23 - 7/17/23. Thinking it would be reasonable to not pay this maintenance fee that covers 6 months of time that we do not have access to the gym, we contacted the billing department. The lady at the billing department agreed it was reasonable and put in a request for us not to be charged the $75 maintenance fee, but couldn't guarantee the request would be fulfilled. The request was not fulfilled, so we contacted her again. She apologized and said she had received about 10 calls from others in the same situation. She encouraged that we contact the upper management (vice president and/or president) and provided a phone number. We called and left a voicemail and, unsurprisingly, have not heard anything back nearly one month later. Take that information as you will! Update: Unless NFC changed their policy after the fact for the “maintenance fee” to cover the previous 6 months rather than the upcoming 6 months, their response is a lie. I spoke with multiple people during the process to ensure it was for the upcoming 6 month period to ensure it was worth pursuing. Summary: Dealing with NFC management is like dealing with shady college apartment complex management. Their reviews are terrible for a reason.

National Fitness Center

Neyland, Thank you for being a valued and loyal member to our fitness center for over 7 years. We are sad to see you go. We're sorry for the confusion regarding the January maintenance fee. Your maintenance fee is actually to cover the previous 6 months, not the following 6 months.

Fantastic experience: I HIGHLY RECOMMEND the Stretching Sessions offered by Joanna at NFC. She is very knowledgeable, caring and experienced and has been more effective than the Chiropractor and Physical Therapist was in my rehab. In particular, the Stretch Sessions have increased flexibility, ease of movement and reduced pain in my hips, lower back and neck/shoulders. My overall physical body feels 10-15 years younger after just a few sessions. Joanna has a passion for excellence in everything she does (I have also taken her group fitness classes in the past as well). I coached football for many years and know the difference between an average and a great coach; she is OUTSTANDING! I encourage other NFC members to try these stretch, mobility & recovery sessions.

National Fitness Center

Merv, We are so happy you have found life changing benefits to working with Jo in our brand new Stretch and Recovery program. What a review! 10-15 years younger! That is incredible. And we agree! Jo is the best coach in town ;) we are SO lucky to have her. Thank you for this wonderful endorsement of the stretch program and Joanna the ALL STAR we can't wait to see where this program takes you!

Negative experience: You should be ashamed of yourselves with your horrible contract policies. An apology doesn't cut it when people are angry with your 87 step and expensive cancellation process. You are like a psycho girlfriend that won't leave us alone after a breakup and demands alimony. I will never recommend this place to anyone and I will never come back. Good riddance.

Mark Elmy 1 year ago

Negative experience: You raised rates without notice and refused to cancel my wife’s account. Your billing department has given us multiple different stories about why we cannot cancel, and you continue to charge her months after cancellation. Furthermore, you refused to refund these unapproved charges after cancellation. Effective immediately, I have turned the matter over to my credit card company and reported you for fraudulent charges. You will not receive another payment from either of us. Period.

National Fitness Center

Mark, the emails we had on file for both you and your wife seem to have been outdated, we apologize for that inconvenience. Our records show that you both were at a greatly discounted rate from a grandfathered plan carried over from Gold's Gym and yes, were increased slightly (still not to our current rate). We are sad to see you go, but understand this rate increase is not satisfactory for you. We do require 30 days notice for all cancellation as did your previous Gold's membership as well.

Negative experience: Down hill, got rid of adult basketball. They have turned it into a cheap gym. Go to a smaller gym that puts money into the gym

National Fitness Center

Hi Steven. We appreciate the feedback. We'll be in touch with the club’s management team to address these concerns.

Negative experience: The gym itself is great, but one of the main reasons we joined over a year ago, was the kiddie pool. Of course it's fall break this week, and the water is so cold you can't even stick your feet in it. Every time you come here, there's no kids in the kiddie pool, because it's too freaking cold. They have supposedly fixed it a few times over the last year but I have never seen it warmer than 80°.

National Fitness Center

K, we're sorry you find the kiddie pool to be too cold. We have a sign in our lobby with the temperatures posted of each one of our 3 pools every single day. We urge you to stop by or even call ahead and try it out now that any issue with the heating system has been fixed. 865-470-3600

Fantastic experience: I have had recent experiences with Erin Palko an employee of National Fitness Center Signature Club. She is the director of personal training for the facility. First, she made it easy to sign my wife up for Core Barre classes and keep it a surprise because it was my wife's birthday. Secondly, she helped me set up my new MyZone fitness app in synchronized it with the club's MyZone tracking computer. Now I can see my effort level in any classroom on a big screen TV with other members. Finally, she strikes me as a "get it done" kind of person. I would recommend keeping her as an employee. I would also recommend that if a position opened up that she can be promoted to do so.Erin's professionality and positive attitude help create what I love about the National Fitness Center Signature Club. I would also like to thank all the cleaning crew. It's very important that we have clean bathrooms and these guys are always on it. There is never random trash or general filth anywhere in the facility. No other gyms near here can say that. I appreciate you guys, Matthew Terrell

Thanks for the 5-star rating, Justice -- we appreciate it! :)

Negative experience: I was a member a decade ago. My contract was for 2 years. The facility I used closed down. My membership was for that club only. Despite this I was charged monthly. Spoke with someone in June ( 6 months ago) and thought this was taken care of. Receive a call today that my payment is late & that I owe $54. !! I have spoken to 3 people today & left a voicemail for what I hope is the correct person to talk to. I'm sorry, but this is insane business practice. The place isn't even there! Nobody wants to help. Do NOT join this gym.

National Fitness Center

Renee, we are sorry you seem to be encountering difficulty canceling your membership. You should be able to just show up to any location and sign a cancellation form. The two closest locations to you should be Maryville or West Knoxville. Ask to speak with Rob at West Knoxville or Jesse at Maryville.

Kristoph Gusto 1 year ago

Negative experience: We have been members for 2 years, still have 1 year left on our contract. The simple issue is they do not keep the facility cleaned and maintained. We have seen a significant drop over the last 1 year. Dressing rooms are not cleaned appropriately, many pools, hot tubs and other fitness equipment are broken (repeatedly). Stay away from anything other than month to month (which they won't allow).

Drew Holman 1 year ago

Fantastic experience: My club! I love it here. The staff is great...friendly... And informative. I've never fel more comfortable at a gym. The equipment is well cared for and even the members will speak to you if you engage! No other gym or fitness center in Morristown compares BY A LONG SHOT.

Positive experience: I visited this gym on a day pass to take a class and it's a top notch facility. Very clean and lots of different types of equipment. Staff was nice and locker rooms were well appointed. I just wish the day passes weren't so expensive ($20) or the membership fees so high.

National Fitness Center

Thank you for sharing your positive experience and feedback regarding your visit to our health club. We're delighted to hear that you found our facility to be top-notch, with a clean environment, a wide variety of equipment, and well-appointed locker rooms. We appreciate your kind words about our staff as well. Regarding the pricing, we understand that affordability is an important factor for many individuals. Our pricing structure takes into account the quality of our facilities, the variety of services we offer, and the operational costs associated with maintaining a high standard. We continuously strive to provide value for our members and guests, and we regularly review our pricing to ensure competitive rates in the market. If you're interested in exploring membership options, we have various plans available to suit different needs and budgets. Stop by your nearest location and ask to speak with a member of our sales team. Thanks again for leaving this 4-star review!

Negative experience: Do not use this company at all, they are terrible. Just so you know how it works, they are financing your membership. A 3rd party company pays them upfront your contract term, and you are paying back the finance company, so they make it incredibly hard to get your membership canceled. Even after you move and do their cancellation process they still have charged me for two months after I moved out of state. Worst experience than any other gym I’ve ever had

Jessie S. 1 year ago

Negative experience: The childcare isn't the best, my daughter is extremely attached to me and I'm not comfortable leaving her in their care. They don't seem to have a good intake program and the only times we've tried to drop her off she's screamed and cried to the point that we've given up and brought her home. I love my weekly yoga class, but I can only go if other accommodations have been made for her at home.

Summer Seiber 1 year ago

Negative experience: Worst customer service I have ever experienced. I signed the contract for the membership and personal training being told that if I moved I can cancel. Well the time has come and I am moving for an internship. The apartment I will be moving to is paid for under my internship so I don’t have a lease with my name on it. I provided them with a an offer letter as proof of employment with the location I will be at on it in addition to proof of the apartment reservation and they refuse to accept these. They are making me pay $200 a month when I will be three hours from the closest gym. National fitness is a nice gym but not worth the awful contracts and hassle they cause. Save your time and money and go elsewhere.

SHELDON TODARO 1 year ago

Negative experience: It's a decent gym overall. They could use a few more power racks and the pool has been closed forever- which is the main reason we joined. I moved out of state and they want a $200 cancellation fee, a letter sent through the post office, and a few other things. They've never communicated with me through post mail. I've never had a gym require this many steps to quit. Their money is more important than you are.

National Fitness Center

Sheldon, we're sorry to hear you're frustrated with our cancellation policy as it is never our intention to do so. Our cancellation policy is clearly outlined in every agreement which every member receives. Yes, you must provide proof of new residence when your reason for cancelation is moving. One of our pools was shut down to repair the water slides to ensure the safety of the children using them, but it has since been reopened and all of our pools have been up and working properly for months. Please let us know if you know of an issue we do not.

Fantastic experience: I have been having a problem with flexibility and range of motion, so I spoke with Erin, the Trainer Leader, and she set up an appointment with Vanessa. Vanessa is a true professional that worked with me and helped me correct my tight & sore back & legs. She communicated every movement and explained in detail what she was doing and why. Vanessa now works with me weekly. Vanessa has my highest possible recommendation. Thank you for everything you do. Additionally, my wife and I joined NFC just over a year ago and it has changed our life. From the moment we walk in the door we’re greeted with a smile, Rob the GM, Brandon, Erin, the maintenance staff, the especially the folks keeping the facility hygiene appropriate, they ALL provide a Service. Rob and his team do a superb job ensuring members are provided functional and the latest in state of the art training equipment. Erin is always available each member, she knows EVERY member by name and alway has an encouraging smile and warmth that makes you feel like you’re not just another member, your family. Erin and all her Trainers do a fantastic job pushing and challenging those members that utilize personal training resources. Speaking for myself, I’ve lost over 40 lbs, gained in flexibility, range of motion, energy, and above all strength. My personal trainer, Ryan knows my specific goals and ambitions and challenges me during each session to keep pushing, embrace “the suck”. I love these guys. My people!!!

National Fitness Center

Bryce, what an incredible review. Thank you so much for taking the time to detail your great experience with us. We are so glad you have found so much success with several departments in our facility. Please let us know if we can do anything to help you keep hitting your goals. You're doing great!
