Movement Sunnyvale (formerly Planet Granite Sunnyvale)

Experiencia positiva: When I first visited this gym years ago back when it was still PG, I thought it was the best rope gym in the bay. A lot of things that make it great are still there: interesting walls, long lead routes, multiple separate bouldering sections, huge training area, full gym, friendly staff, cool atmosphere, and of course, a sauna that is almost always empty, which in my biased opinion adds a full star to my review of any gym. Also, it’s breezy‿︵‿︵‿︵!! Like any other modern climber worth their weight in excuses, I am only capable of sending when temps are between 55 and 65 Fahrenheit, with windchill from the northwest causing a slight updraft. What has changed: setting feels less inventive (the gym in the Presidio seems to have the best setters now), walls and holds are no longer the latest and greatest available if that’s important to you. I’ll still be coming here regularly to train and climb and work out, and hang out by myself in the sauna. Come say hi, it gets lonely in there.

Experiencia positiva: Great gym with a good atmosphere, friendly staff, great workout area, great routes and pretty good bouldering area. I gave this review 4 stars because many of the holds are pretty greasy and look like they haven’t been replaced in years. Updated because the setting and holds have been MUCH better over the last few months

Experiencia fantástica: Swell gym. Lot of bouldering options and top roping/lead roping to be done here. Offer yoga classes (free for members), has a decently sized rock climbing oriented gym, and they have a sauna. Very spacious, definitely wanna check this place out if you are a rock climber in the area.

Experiencia fantástica: THE STAFF IS AWESOME!!! My 17 year old daughter had a personal training appointment with Dillon. Long story short, she felt faint and was quite frightened. (NOTE: It was not due to the exercises...we had just returned from Yosemite and we think she had some dehydration going on). The Movement team saw that she was not well and contacted EMS, and then contacted me. I was a little frantic when I got the call as I was stuck in traffic in Morgan Hill, and they told me not to worry and called my husband immediately. Upon reflecting on the situation, my husband and I feel overwhelmed with gratitude. The Movement team handled it AMAZING! My heart is full thinking of the care she received at that time. I can't thank you all enough.

Experiencia fantástica: 03/31/22 Update. Can get busy with classes around 6-7pm on the walls. Parking lot gets crowded near the entrance so you'll probably have to park far. Be prepared to sometimes wait for people to finish on a route or wait for someone to pass out of your route. Overall be prepared to climb some really fun routes! They have a new policy for drop ins as of 4/27/21. There are no longer 5 drop in slots at the beginning of the reservation block. I waited about 30min from the start of the reservation block and I was able to get in as a drop in. Bathrooms are open and clean, and the lockers are walled off. Overall I felt comfortable bouldering as people respected each other's space, there was ample hand sanitizer and each wall was marked off.
