Experiencia fantástica: The Flagstaff Athletic Club did no less than change my life 16 years ago. I came to Flagstaff quite broken, doing my best as a single mom of a toddler, but where I had been living, I had no way to work out because I had no childcare. I just hiked with him on my shoulders all the time, that was the only thing I knew to do, and my knees had reached the point that they would just drop out from under me sometimes (luckily, never when I was carrying him!) and I’d fall on the ground. When I got to Flagstaff it was an absolute miracle for me that for the affordable monthly fees at this club included 2 hours a day so that I could not just rush in and work out, but take the time to have a hot tub or relaxing shower as well. Some “me time” that I had never been able to carve out elsewhere, and that totally restored my sanity. The structure allowed me to try as many different teachers and tyeps of classes as I wanted, so I got to try many yoga, pilates, spin, and strength teachers. Some didn’t suit me, but one or two of the teachers totally changed my life. Other gyms offered to throw the kid in front of a TV and make sure he didn’t hurt himself (for $$), but at FAC, the child care was actually super fun and interesting for my son, too, so I was actually freed of the mom guilt and delighted he was getting the influence of the engaged child carers. The warm and cozy family atmosphere of the club was also so welcoming compared to the “yang” energy of so many gyms. I met other women in the classes and the changeroom, and made friends. I felt good going to the weight-lifting area, the classes, together with my son to the pool and outdoor hot tub, even sitting sometimes to do e-mails at the bar or café tables just to have some cheerful energy, which meant everything to me at that time. When I first started to do yoga at FAC, I fell over many times, even just trying to do equal standing. My body was that broken/out of alignment. The atmosphere was so welcoming, though, that I never felt ashamed about it. I just laughed and kept trying. There was a woman in her 80s who was so flexible and so strong. So many times, I thought, I’m 30, and she’s 85, this means that I can get better as I age. There was another woman who did a bound side angle pose in yoga and it really opened my eyes to a whole range and world of movement I had not imagined before. I thought, I want to be able to do that. I was motivated to live up to these other women in my classes, and so encouraged and empowered by the kind inspirational easygoingness of the teachers. Honestly, the changerooms make me feel as spoiled as Cleopatra. They’re beautiful, they smell delicious, you can soak and steam and lather and wash and soak again, if you want to. You can even keep your things in a locker so you don’t have to haul it back and forth all the time. The two-hour thing means sometimes I did a long soak and wash before yoga, and I learned that unwinding the tension helped me to be more balanced and flexible on the mat. FAC just gave me so much time and space and opportunity to experiment and learn about my body and how to get healthy again. From not being able to stand upright, now, 16 years later, I’m a yoga teacher too. When I fly into bound side angle pose, I think of the women who inspired me in those classes (I was never brave enough to say hello to her, then, but if she ever reads this… thank you. Those classes in the upstairs room, you inspired me). I still can’t always nail the v-sit boat pose the 85-year old lady always nailed with such grace, strength, flexibility, and poise, but I have a few more decades to try to reach her level. FAC gave me the space, the people, the tools, and the time to get us back on a healthier track and I’m so grateful it exists. I’ll never be able to thank the owners, the creators, and the wonderful community of employees, enough. Thanks for my life back. You’re not just a place where people get their bodies healthy, you’re a stabilizing influence in our whole lives in so many ways. Stay awesome. Thank you. thank you.

Experiencia fantástica: best sauna, steam n hot tub in city, better then west side but should make suits a rule so we can bring our cell fon n listen to my fav station npr. should convert hot tub to cold dip or plunge of 50 or colder as 3 hot sources r enuf(sauna, steam n shower). go to la n frequent the 4 cold dips at la fitness; santa monica, montebello, west covina n hollywood, ul never sleep better that nite,,,

Experiencia positiva: This gym is ok but they are not very good at servicing their equipment. All the elliptical machines except one will not adjust their ramps. I have told 3 employees about it but nothing gets fixed. Or it takes a super long time to get fixed. I like the racquetball courts and the fact it is so close to my house. I never feel comfortable in their weight room due to the testosterone levels of the men who workout there. I wish they would get a women only weight area. It's a bit more run down than it could be, needs classes at nighttime as well. Also not very accessible...the cardio equipment is located upstairs with no elevator. So people who may have some difficulty with stairs but need to rehab can't access the equipment.

Experiencia fantástica: A really wonderful facility— always very kind and friendly staff, beautiful pool and hot tubs. The weight and cardio rooms have really good varieties of machines/equipment and the locker rooms are always very clean.

Experiencia fantástica: Amazing gym with classic aesthetic. It has multiple benches, squat racks, free weights, machines, cardio room and more. I have yet to use the pool or sauna but my girlfriend really enjoys them. Classes are offered for all the traditional standards and personal trainers are available for those that want them. Never too full to the point that you can't work out how you want or wait 5 minutes for what you want to open up.

Experiencia fantástica: I visited the East side FAC. Staff is friendly and helpful. The saltwater pool is amazing. It spoiled other pools for me. So soothing and relaxing. Need a few upgrades in the accessibility for physically challenged. More handrails to entry into the pool and handrail in the hallway from the locker rooms to the pool would be helpful.

Experiencia fantástica: My five star review is for FAC's wonderful parent tot swimming classes. My son is 21 months old and this was his first set of swimming classes. His instructor Dezi is absolutely amazing. She is very knowledgeable, fun and caring. She has been teaching him great life saving skills and I feel we are getting a lot out of her classes especially for my son's young age. I highly recommend these swimming classes to anyone thinking about getting their young babies exposed to water. We will definitely keep coming back!

Experiencia fantástica: This is a beautiful facility in a beautiful part of Flagstaff. This facility is a gym, fitness center, athletic club, and country club all in one. When you first walk in, you see an indoor pool and the outdoors too (there are panes of glass surrounding the pool, so it feels like you are outside in the country). This building is architecturally interesting, and it's HUGE. There is an upstairs part as well as basketball courts and other stuff. The fitness/exercise room isn't big, but its cozy and the equipment is new. Outside is another pool. This is more of a family club or a club for someone who doesn't want to go to a hardcore gym. I like this place because it's relaxing and nice. It's both an athletic club and a country club.

Experiencia fantástica: Best club in town. Great facilities and better hours than the Aquaplex. Worth the extra cost as you get access to both this and the West side.

Experiencia fantástica: Best guy option in town. The facility is large with lots of exercise options. They have a pool that's never very busy, lots of free weights, a ton of cardio equipment, a very large basketball court, and much more.

Experiencia fantástica: Other than the basketball courts (they're concrete with no official lines), the facilities and services at both the FACE and FACW are the best in Flag. Great weight room, locker rooms, racquetball courts, pools, Cardio room, group fitness rooms and classes!
