It was clean and cared for and it also is affordable for all of the amenities. The staff is friendly and helpful and the people that go here are a nice, close knit community.

Experiencia negativa: I used this gym for several years during my time in Highland. I appreciated the unique addition of the movie theater, which added an enjoyable element to my workouts. However, I encountered issues with the gym's policy regarding the use of certain machines. Despite there being no other gym-goers present, I was reprimanded by the trainers for using machines out of order, which required filling out forms beforehand. This rigid approach was frustrating and discouraging. Additionally, the membership cost was higher compared to Planet Fitness, making it less appealing financially. Ultimately, my decision to use this gym was primarily convenience-driven, as I preferred not to commute over the Mid-Hudson bridge to access other options.

Experiencia positiva: I tried it out for a month and decided against getting a membership for now. I made a switch from another local gym for not having enough equipment. This gym had the abductor machine I really need in my repertoire but it was out of order about two weeks in. Waited for it to get repaired but just sat there with a sign on it for the remaining two weeks of my month. The hours are also really tough. I can only work out early morning and later evening, and this place has such limited hours making it impossible to get in if I can’t make it in the morning. Opens late at 8am on weekends and closes early. Also no gender neutral restroom at all, which doesn’t work well for me. Only men and women locker rooms. I may reconsider if the hours extend but for now it’s not worth it to pay for such limited hours.

Experiencia fantástica: Mike Artegas in Highland is an incredible gym with the BEST staff! I'm greeted with a smile every morning from the staff behind the desk and everyone else working always seem to be happy and very helpful! I basically use the pool area to swim, use the hot tub, sauna and cold plunge. All the lifeguards are also very friendly and helpful! The gym is very clean and such a pleasant place to work out!!!

I would definitely rate it as an excellent facility for working out and getting healthy, *there is something for everyone.* Clean locker rooms and showers. Well maintained and well thought out to meet your needs, privacy, storage of your items, hairdryers, mirrors. Both of these gyms are a 10 and well worth the money.

Experiencia positiva: Got a membership here about 2 weeks ago. Enjoying the space and my workout! Was very discouraged to find out the pool, sauna and jacuzzi close an hr and a half before everything else. That was not made clear.. I get done with work at 5:00 and drive 30 mins to the gym.. not enough time to workout and then sauna/ jacuzzi after with the strange hrs. Also I’ve noticed that absolutely every one piles into the sauna and jacuzzi about an hr before it closes making for limited space.. then lines for the showers after.. thinking about finding another gym with later hrs..

Also the pool has zero equipment so there’s no point unless you want to float with seniors. Useless

Experiencia negativa: I was a member here years ago. I went in during the Summer 2023 to buy a day pass for me and my son. We were met with the most unpleasant employee. He insisted that my son needed to physically present an ID. The picture I had on my phone was not good enough. He seemed irritated that we wanted to pay for a day pass and we weren't interested in a membership. We left, never returned, never will. We ended up at Planet Fitness Teens could use the gym for free all Summer. Now, we use Ignite Fitness which is closer to our home. PS , they have a horrible schedule. It's a pretty place. But, a pig with lipstick is still a pig.

Experiencia negativa: Place is great except the fact that the pool and sauna closes almost 2 hours earlier than the gym. And the gym mostly closes at 8pm! Such a small time to even go.

Experiencia fantástica: My husband and I really enjoy working out here at Mike Arteaga's Highland location. We are always warmly greeted upon entry, and feel comfortable asking any questions we may have as the staff have genuine customer service skills. The faculty is clean and open with two levels available to decide what machines you'd like to use. The pool is amazing! Not too warm and not too cold. The sauna, hot tub, and cold plunge are also delightful experiences. My husband mainly uses the gym for his workouts, and I alternate swim and gym workouts, especially when the weather isn't conducive for swimming (i.e thunder/lightening storms). I'm sure if you choose to join at this location you would be as satisfied as we are. The membership fee and yearly cost are reasonable as well.

Experiencia negativa: They said during tour I can ask questions of floor trainers. Concealed that they're not present 90% of the time gym is open. Much old equipment with resulting problems, such as superficial, unhelpful displays, if they're even working. Tip: Fully try out any equipment you likely will use. Know that any issues will also be present at things you did not try out.

Experiencia fantástica: I've been a member of Mike Arteaga's Poughkeepsie for a few months now and I just stopped at the Highland location for the first time. What a difference. The place is clean and practically empty. New machines, lots of floor space.

Experiencia negativa: It’s silly that the rule for the pool concerning kids is, unless they are 9 years of age and pass their “swim test”, they must be within your arms reach. I understand where they’re going with that, but it should be according to skill. Not AGE. You simply cannot put every 9 year old in the same skill range. My boy is a fish lol. Very disappointing that I basically have to be his swimming shadow. Wish I would have known this before membership and promising him.

Experiencia fantástica: I've been a member of the Highland gym for several years and I couldn't be more satisfied. More than anything, the employees are all so gracious all the time. To state that is a big deal for a gym. They remember your name which makes me feel great when I arrive and they are always sure to say goodbye as well. The place is spotless and I use the pool mostly. The showers are very clean as well, and the 'free' soap/shampoo is so freshly scented and makes you feel clean and refreshed during and after. I could recommend this gym to everyone I see. Bravo to a very well run company with happy employees and even happier customers. Thank you.

Experiencia negativa: I Was a member for around 15 years. I always loved the gym and still do. However, since the pandemic restrictions ended the pool hours never went back to the old schedule. It’s more crowded than I’ve ever seen in July and August. If they ever go back to the old schedule I will happily rejoin. Seems like this schedule is here to stay

Experiencia fantástica: I've maintained a membership with a gym for decades and this is my spot since before the COVID times. They are affordable, friendly, and have plenty of space and modern facilities. I mainly use the Cardio Cinema and treadmills/ellipticals/Nautilus equipment, and occasionally the rowing machine. The pool is solid, with lap lanes, a reserved lane for people without reservations, and a cold plunge and a hot tub too. Big shouts out to the staff, both at the Highland and the Poughkeepsie branch. They have always been helpful and respectful, and it's nice to see the same faces over the last several years even through the pandemic. Sidebar: they were super cool about pausing/unpausing my membership dues when I was out of town for months, no hassle like in the old days and old gyms! Highly recommend!

Experiencia negativa: Yikes! They charge $20 just to try it out for ONE DAY! I have never heard of a gym charging for a trial before. It's always free because that's how a trial works. Very disappointed, I will definitely not be going here for my membership.

Experiencia negativa: Planet Fitness is $10/month. Why is Mike Arteaga's $16-$24 every 2 weeks. Why not have a monthly charge? I think it is due to them getting 26 payments instead of 12 a year. They don't offer any teacher or school discounts, only for students. I was a member and left. I reported a machine up in the cinema room wasn't working 3x. It sqeuaked so loud every time you used it. They never marked it as not working or got it fixed. With all of the money coming in every 2 weeks, why not fix the machines? Please consider fixing machines faster, having a monthly rate, and teacher discount, and I'd love to return. I'd also be willing to update my review if some of these changes were made.

Experiencia negativa: Joined & Cancelled Same Day! I’ve never been so disgusted in my entire life. Gym has policy in which you can bring your child for free, which means there’s little children playing and running around in the locker while grown men & old naked men are walking around completely nude.!!! Totally skeeved me out! Very inappropriate! The shower area has no privacy and no area to undress which means you pretty much have to undress in front of everyone including the unsupervised children running around otherwise you’re clothing & towel would be completely soaked. Machines on second floor are so outdated and look more like torchure devices instead of machines to workout on. Only positive was that the staff was very apologetic with my unpleasant experience.

Experiencia negativa: Just left the facility in Highland 3/24 around 4:30 pm, I came in to register and sign up after hearing about how nice the pool was... while at the front desk I asked could I quickly use the bathroom and was told no at first ( by some guy that had absolutely no customer service skills) then told I had to sign in as a guest by a woman identifying herself as the supervisor. I couldn’t believe this protocol needed to completed before I relieved myself. Neither offered any apology regarding the matter and seemed ok with me being upset and taking my business elsewhere. I left , called the CEO of the company and will look for a gym that values me as a customer.

Experiencia negativa: They have no customer service and get very frustrated with complaints. I signed up for a month to month membership and they charged me a yearly fee in my first two months so if you think you're going to give it a try don't waste your time. I hardly went and didnt get the chance to experience it when they charged me that fee so I paid $80 in my second month.

Experiencia negativa: Redoing the facility was nice, except after, it seems it is usually near impossible to get into the parking lot after work at 4pm. Many times I as well as my family has had to turn around and go home. I enjoyed going to the gym and felt everyone was friendly. Also I don't want to sound like a right wing nut job, I'm not, but, When I was going ( I just started going back after a 7 month injury), it was common to see the older , business people watching FOX news, which I like watching while on the treadmill and Bike. Now interestingly, no FOX news and more college kids. When I asked about it, I was told they had to pick stations and FOX wasn't chosen, CNN was. Hmm!. No agenda there! I pay for a service and do not feel too acknowledged as a customer. I will be checking out planet fitness.

It is closed again 2/6/2017 after a 5 month renovation that made the pool surround more slippery placed a pool shower in the traffic lane to change room and sauna, and only added one amenity (to some) to the mix. Not worth the effort or that last 6 yrs of club improvement dues. Dissappointed in management!

Experiencia positiva: This health and fitness center is good enough to meet my health needs - clean, a lot of cardio equipment, pool, sauna, circle of strengthening machines, cardio cinema. Most of the staff are friendly, but some of them do not make you feel welcome, especially when their manager is not there. I like their Healthy back and neck program and health brochures. Sometimes, it is too noisy their, but mostly you can listen to a pleasant music.
