Experiencia fantástica: I really like this YMCA, especially the staff, who are all so kind and welcoming. The locker rooms are always clean and the cleaners are just the sweetest people. Equipment is sometimes a little older, but always functional and always has what I need! I love having this Y in my community.

Experiencia negativa: I really wanted to like this YMCA since it's walking distance, but my experience has been consistently frustrating. The facility feels outdated and poorly maintained, with equipment that’s either broken, missing, or long overdue for replacement. Cleanliness is another major issue.... Locker rooms, restrooms, and common areas often look like they haven’t been checked in hours. Customer service hasn’t been much better. Staff members are polite enough, but they rarely seem engaged or willing to help when problems come up. Getting clear answers about schedules, classes, or membership questions has been surprisingly difficult. For what they charge, the quality just doesn’t come close to matching the price. It’s an unreasonable amount of money for a facility that feels this outdated and limited. For only a little more each month, you can join a brand‑new gym like Club Studio with far better equipment and unlimited classes. With so many fitness options nearby, this YMCA simply isn’t competitive at the moment. Needs to renovated in a massive way.

Experiencia fantástica: Love the 4 land swimming pool and facilities. Staff have a super nice see Ms Gail she is super knowledgeable and professional. Pool has lockers with locks, towels and plastic bag for wet items along with kick boards and floaties. Highly recommend.

Experiencia fantástica: Joining this Y was a great decision. I joined a couple of years ago now, mostly so my kids could swim recreationally in the evenings and on weekends. I didn’t plan to leverage the gym much outside of that. I did the family membership, and my husband got a free membership as part of it. He had no intentions of going, and now it’s his main gym. I workout there several times a week, including swimming for me. They have childcare, which I almost never use, but it’s nice to have when I need it. The facility is clean and the equipment definitely meets my needs. I’ve taken a few classes, too, and they were good. I was very pleased with the kids swim classes. The best part? The staff! They are so kind, welcoming and helpful. They really care about the members and doing their jobs well to create a positive member experience. They are also SO nice to my kids when they come. My dues at the Y are some of my best spent dollars each month.

Experiencia negativa: Stay away from this place. We signed up to bring my son for swimming on the weekends. All lanes are closed almost all day for swimming lessons and lap swimmer. It’s not kids friendly at all, especially if you have a kid on spectrum that doesn’t like frequent changes, it’s not a place for you.

Experiencia positiva: Member for 1.5 years here. Downstairs weight room feels extremely crowded when less than 8 people are in it. Not good gym for those looking to build muscle. Membership more expensive than One Life fitness and LA fitness, which are super close by.

Experiencia fantástica: Love this YMCA! I’m a new member but have had such a wonderful experience so far. With my husband overseas, I am able to trust my two small children to their childcare center and enjoy a great workout on my own. I mostly do their group fitness classes which are so fun! All of the instructors are very friendly and immediately notice when you are new and come over to say hi. Would recommend to any family in the Alexandria area.

Experiencia fantástica: I think this was a very clean gym overall. They had towels for members which I absolutely loved. The facility was definitely big enough that you could have everything you need. This was one of the only YMCA's that was open on a Sunday and late which was very important to me. The pool was overall not cold, lifeguard were friendly. I think a really neat feature of this gym that I have not seen before is that they have electronic lockers where you do not need to remember to bring a lock and it can set to the code that you wanted to. I actually really like this and this is super convenient for people who want to make sure that their stuff stays safe. Would 100% come here again

Experiencia fantástica: This is an excellent YMCA. I have been to YMCA facilities in several cities and am using this location while I am traveling in the area for work. They make the nationwide member check in process very easy and, Bill, the man who manages the front desk in the morning, has been very kind and helpful in helping me to get my bearings at a new place. This facility has everything you need for a good workout, and even has towel service for the showers and pool! I have come the last few days around opening and it has not been too crowded and the other members are very kind and welcoming. I will surely miss this Y when I return home.

Experiencia fantástica: Great place to work out. Staff is friendly, it gets a bit busy between 1600 and 1800. The free weight area is small, no fault of the YMCA, Great pool size, and they have several programs you can join. (NOT pictured is the basketball courts, fields, and outdoor play ground)

Experiencia positiva: The hours are great for a YMCA and the place is clean. Machines are fairly new. It’s great there’s an indoor pool, I wish there were more lanes available though. Only 2 lanes available for much of the day and occasionally only one. The sauna is pretty mediocre. But the staff are pretty rude. I needed them to open my locker and we had to try a couple different ones cause I forgot which and the guy got really upset with me. Meanwhile I’m soaking wet in a towel without my belongings. We get it open but the guy gave me a bunch of lip about it and made me feel even worse than I already did. Staff not friendly at all. Would prefer to not interact with them at all.

Experiencia negativa: YMCA as an organization is known to be a place of community as well as charity. While I’ve got quite a thick skin, I do have to say that the process of obtaining and processing a financial aid form for membership here was met with disproportionate amount of what felt like feigned confusion. I find it hard to believe no one else has contacted the gym about financial aid. If they truly haven’t, it’s a shame that this location has so thoroughly forgotten the company’s mission.

Experiencia negativa: I visited this neighborhood Y to ask about exercise options, fees and membership options for seniors and govt retirees. The people at the front desk were dismissive, almost non responsive and rude, especially when my inquiries about senior discounts were met with snotty replies. These snotball punks should not be employed by anyone. I'll check out Holds Gym or dome other gym.

Experiencia fantástica: Absolutely amazing! Can't believe I hadn't discovered this Y years ago. They have the nicest staff and everyone who goes there is very helpful and friendly. Classes are top-notch and it's nice as you don't need to sign up for anything and you can take classes as you choose. The water aerobics classes are super with two good instructors. The fees are extremely reasonable. Updated equipment that is well maintained. The place is spotless. Only one complaint from me -- the WiFI is pretty useless and only works at best in the lobby area. Don't let the older building dissuade you as they keep it well maintained.

Experiencia fantástica: Great atmosphere -- very welcoming to any level of fitness. Sometimes crowded but never had a problem finding something to do. Classes are good. More expensive than a chain gym, but worth it.

Experiencia positiva: If you are looking for a workout place for a great price, look no further. The branch offers a Cybex weight circuit and free weights, bikes, treadmills, indoor pool, basketball court, class rooms, etc. If you join, I suggest getting set up for the Fitlinxx program to help ensure you are exercising properly and to track your progress. Most times the equipment is not that crowded (except after work between 5:15 and 6:30, but even then you can get on machines relatively quickly). If you have kids, you can rent the pool and party room for birthday parties.

Experiencia negativa: After calling ahead and being approved to swim for the afternoon and driving our group 45 minutes, we were told to get out of the pool after only 30 minutes. The young bleach blond lifeguard on duty was extremely rude and obnoxious towards our children. What a shame to see a nice facility tainted by such an incompetent and unprofessional staff.

Experiencia fantástica: I've been attending this YMCA for about a month now (I attended YMCA gyms in other states prior to this one). I'm 24 and was worried about the age difference. But, to my surprise everyone is wonderful and helpful-members, staff, and instructors alike. The classes are absolutely amazing. I really enjoy deep water aerobics with Cathy, Zumba with Nicole, Body Comabt with Shanedda and I've also worked with Craig one of the personal trainers (highly recommend). I feel at home at this YMCA and the classes and friendly people help me stay motivated and focused on my health and fitness goals.

Experiencia fantástica: We moved to Alexandria in 8/2019. We were looking for a gym with child watch facility. As soon as we walked into this YMCA. We instantly feel the true Y spirit. I could feel the team spirit. Everyone goes out of their ways to help newcomers like us. This by far the best Y I have been to.

Experiencia negativa: Facility is nice, but it is impossible to cancel your membership here. My husband and I have been trying for months and there's always a paperwork mixup that results in us being charged for a membership we no longer use.

Experiencia negativa: I’m very disappointed in this location. I received a poor diagnosis from the doctor and will be hospitalized weeks to months. I called to cancel my membership and was told to email “Aaron” who was not in today so I did so. I have called twice more and been told the same thing, all this over the span af about a week. I’m literally wasting money on a gym I may never be able to use again. Where’s the empathy or even just a little concern?

Experiencia negativa: I've experienced better YMCA facilities in the area. The other members are not very friendly or inclusive. It's lacks diversity and you get the feeling, you don't belong there! Unacceptable! I chose to cancel my membership.

Experiencia positiva: The people are VERY friendly. I'm a crossfitter. I'm utilizing a free 3 month membership that my apartments give me at the start of the lease. Figured it was free so I'll go then hunt for a crossfit box. It doesn't have everything, but its enough to get a good workout as long as you know what you're doing. If you go there and complain that you can't get a good workout, you might want to ask about their personal training. Very close to home. Very hospitable.

Experiencia negativa: If I could give zero rating, I would. I went to take adult swimming class in YMCA first time and I wasn't a member. The lady in front desk told me that the first class has already started today but it's possible to get into the class. She also suggested that if I take the membership then I will get discount on the swimming class, which I thought good. I filled out the admission form and gave my credit card to pay for the membership and the swimming class. When she is done with the transaction, she saw the swimming instructor coming toward front desk, then she introduced me with him and told him that I am going to join the class next week, then the instructor said the class is full and suggested to wait for the next class. Then when he heard that I already paid for the class he said he is gonna check and let me know by next day if he can put me in this class. Then the front desk lady was pretending to be sorry and she said she should've asked the instructor before the transaction. She assured me to hold the transaction and call me by next day if anything available, if not then my credit card won't get charged. And also told me that if I don't get any call from her, it means no seat available and my account will be closed. Well, I didn't get any call from her next day. About 15 days later, I got notified from my bank that my card was charged for the membership of YMCA. I was so disappointed and went to YMCA to ask why my card was charged. I met the same lady at the front desk and asked. she said YMCA shouldn't charged the card. Then she asked me to talk to a guy name Aaron who handles all the refunds. When I explained Aaron he told me that, refund is not possible but If I want I can take the private swimming lesson and he should be able to discount the amount they've charged from my card. At that point I thought I am not gonna get my refund, why not take the private class and use my money. So I paid rest of the amount for the class. Aaron had me talk to the instructor(Arthur) who will take my class and made the schedule for the class next week on Friday at 8pm Next week I went to take my first lesson on time, and was waiting at the waiting area near the front desk. The class supposed to started at 8pm, I waited until 8:45pm for the instructor. In between I asked twice at the front desk about the instructor (Arthur)but they said instructor is not answering his phone. I was feeling so stupid and dispointed again. Then the front desk called Aaron to handle the situation and he was apologising and was telling me that the front desk forgot to inform instructor about the class. Then he requested another instructor (his name probably David) who was present that time to take my class. He teaches small kids not adult. He wasn't very helpful, he spent most of the time just talking dos and don'ts. He also told me that it's hard to learn swimming if it isn't leaned as kid. However, I finished my lessons 5 out of 6. On lessons 5, the instructor took me in deep water, at that time I didn't even know how to float in the water, I sunk and the life guard came to get me out of the water. I felt like the instructor wanted me to scare about swimming and not continue the lesson. Then he went to vacation for a week and didn't make the schedule for lesson 6. Overall my experience was very very bad with YMCA. They don't care about customer but money. The people at the front desk are not professional. They are fraud and lier. I wouldn't recommend anyone this place.

Experiencia negativa: Unfortunately, I have to change my original 4 star review to 2 stars. On my latest visit, the membership director, Aaron was very unwelcoming upon seeing my YMCA card was from a different region and questioned me hard about what I was in the area for, what my address was and where I was from. I was surprised, as I had visited this location multiple times this year and had already filled out a guest form twice. I told him they should be able to look me up in the system but after trying my name I was told they couldn't find any of my information and I had to fill out a guest form for a third time. He also claimed to have never seen me there before but I had seen him on a number of occasions and even spoke to him once or twice. I figured in light of recent events they would be on edge and increasing security there but I think this could have been handled better and much more professionally without making me feel unwelcome. Up until this point everyone has been warm and friendly and I might have become a permanent member someday. After this I will not be returning though.

Experiencia positiva: This is usually a fine YMCA but to have it be this hot outside and no AC in the locker rooms is ridiculous. I asked a woman working there to turn the AC on but all she did was turn the fans on higher. You know, to move the 400-degree air around.

Experiencia negativa: We came with my son for first swimming lesson and front desk was absolutely terrible, not helpful, no greeting no smiling or anything... When I asked what we are suppose to do, because we are hear first time, he just said "go straight and to the right" ... This person just should not work at that place!

Experiencia negativa: We tried several times to schedule private swimming lessons for our son. Each time we called we were told to pick up an application, complete it and submit it; at which point they would pass it along to the appropriate people in the aquatics center for scheduling. We did this THREE times! We have yet to hear from anyone. Each time we followed up we were given the same instructions. And each time they failed to respond. A real shame too, because our son has taken lessons here several times and we never had any previous issues. For some reason, this time, they just aren't communicating.
