Retro Fitness Albany State Concourse

Experiencia positiva: Used to be decently full and all machines were available within acceptable waiting time. Nowadays, it is very crowded and hard to walk around in. Finding a machine/bench/area that isn’t occupied is a struggle. I have no idea why there’s three potential areas for training and classes that are basically closed off for the rest of the people paying for the gym whenever they decide to. The turf room, the cage room, and the dancing room behind the cardio area. I have never seen all of the cardio machines in usage either. With 1 incline press, 2 bench presses, and 6 benches. Maybe there is a more optimal layout that can have more machines to accommodate the larger crowd. Apart from that, great staff and good atmosphere. Smoothies are amazing. Quality equipment, just a lot of people.

Experiencia fantástica: All 4 stair master machines shut off during mid use today. All the cardio equipment is outdated . If it wasn’t for the friendly staff and pure convenience I would not come here … this is an everyday occurrence, yes the staff can’t simply unplug them and plug it back in . But I don’t pay for inconveniences and broken machines , I pay to work out and if I can’t do that there’s an issue . The rating is only 5 stars because I love this place and staff . I’d give whoever owns this place a solid 1 star for effort because owning a gym clearly isn’t a passion.

Experiencia fantástica: Ryan, on the front desk, today and Saturday was awesome. Great guy, great service, super friendly. The gym is perfect. Has everything one needs for a decent workout and is quiet first thing in the morning.

Experiencia positiva: Only one bench press, one incline, no decline bench, lotta nautilus equipment and no real parking lot, gym is clean, equipment in decent condition. Some tears on the benches.

Experiencia negativa: It’s gotten overcrowded and quite a few of the men seem to never wear deodorant. It’s gotten unbearable to workout at times and I often have to relocate to avoid the odor. The staff are great but it’s a shame the gym has gotten overcrowded and poor hygiene

Experiencia negativa: Make it make sense. Back in December I called the central ave location (now closed permanently) because I was having difficulty signing up online. Not knowing this was because that location was due to close at the end of that month, the manager I spoke to essentially lied and directed me to sign up for my “ultimate” membership using the albany concourse location. I opted for the membership where I could have use of multiple gyms for $32.99. The manager knew this but instead of warning me and advising me to solely sign up for one location at the $19.99 misdirected me. Bad business. Even with a bitter taste in my I decided I would keep my membership but instead switch it to the basic level so I would just be using the downtown location when I was at work. In speaking with the albany manager I explained the situation and he said it wouldn’t be a problem to switch HOWEVER I’d be subject to the $69 enrollment fee. Excuse I’m sorry but what? I have to pay a fee to switch after your staff misinformed me AND you closed the only other location. I explained how this didn’t seem logical from a customer service perspective and he could care less. I even said you honestly don’t want to save a new member and the revenue and his only reasoning was that it was a new contract. Does this make any sense from a business standpoint. No. I guess I understand why this chain is failing in the capital district. Good luck!

Experiencia fantástica: I have been a member at this facility for nearly 2 years and wow, I cannot say enough. The community atmosphere is unmatched and keeps me coming back. A major part of the community is the wonderful classes they offer. Working with Lakeisha, Tim, Nate, Lori, Kelley, and Alana, are literally the best parts of my week. Fitness is fun at Retro. Keep up the great work everyone!!

Experiencia negativa: I used to work out regularly at this gym in 2021 and 2022, and I loved everyone there (Concourse location). During this time my mom became ill and passed away last year. I also got injured and could not used the facility. In all this drama, I forgot to contact the gym, so my gym membership lapsed. It ended up going into collections, and I'm currently dealing with it. The account has been closed for almost 2 years. Let's get into this month and dealing with Nadine Lewis who is the operations manager At both Albany locations. I currently have a new membership, that was behind but now current. This woman (Nadine), started contacting me about the closed account, that went into collections (no longer her problem), and telling me the about all the times my fees were waived etc (again account closed two years ago). She even sent me a list of it (again account closed, why are you sweating me!) I explained to her, that I've spoken to collections, and it's no longer the clubs business (or hers to contact me via several emails). I started feeling harassed and it started bringing up a lot of emotions around the worst year in my life. She even asked me to bring in a doctor's note for my injury on the closed account. She even had the audacity to cc several other people!!! Nadine was completely unprofessional, and out of line! She was only supposed to contact me about my current account that's open, not grill me about a closed account. It's a gym membership, not a housing foreclosure....Slow down lady! It has gotten to the point, that I had to contact ABC financials and explain the situation to them. They agreed she was way out of line, and took off a bunch of late fees on my current account. Nadine is not allowed to contact me for any reason, and I had them put a note on my account. My suggestion for dealing with any membership/financial issues, is to deal directly with ABC. Have a great workout.

Experiencia positiva: The gym is well-equipped, but it's missing a few crucial machines: a hack squat machine and a leg extension/leg curl machine. I've never been to a gym that didn't have a combo machine for leg curl/extension like this one. It's honestly a basic machine in ANY gym. The fact that this unit doesn't have them is baffling to me. My past condo gym had one, and it only had 4 machines... I'm willing to change this review if they add at least the leg extension machine, but meanwhile it's gonna be 3 stars for me.

How else do you know, the honor system? There are many dishonorable people. Andin a state building no less.

Right down the street from me and when the weather is nice, a quick bike ride!! I love retro and so glad to see them expanding here in Albany.

And not only because of the decadent dirty nut protein shake they serve Loved the air vents and screens on all machines, the famous landmarks on the stair master, the variety & quality of the machines and most of all the protein heaven shop inside the gym The facilities are spotless and the staff are a delight! Highly recommend

Experiencia fantástica: Friendly and helpful staff. Clean facility and locker room. Easy website to book classes. Theres a diverse membership and I feel safe, comfortable here. The smoothies are delicious, my favorite is raspberry banana. Not just for state employees!

Experiencia fantástica: I had a great time at this gym. As a person riding through Albany who needed to work out, this location could not have been better for me. Everyone on the staff was extremely helpful and the facilty was top-notch. If I lived in the area, this will be my home gym. It's a bit of a hustle to get into this location. You got to enter in through the doors across from the museum, walk down a long hallway, and you'll see it on the left. But it's a small minor complaint for an otherwise great experience in a new place. TLDR: Great Staff, Awesome Facility. You should go.
