Baseball has been a huge part of my life since I was young, both in terms of training for the upcoming season and staying in shape during it. When I first tried CrossFit, I was instantly hooked. The camaraderie and competitive nature of the workouts were what really appealed to me. CrossFit was able to provide the same kind of active, competitive, and social environment that I had enjoyed in college.

CrossFit provides an opportunity for people of all ages, genders, and body types to push themselves beyond their perceived limits and accomplish more than they ever thought possible.

I was raised in Long Island, NY and spent my college years on Oahu, Hawaii. I have been residing in Charlotte for the past four years.

Without realizing it, I had been looking for CrossFit since my soccer days when I was younger ended. I had tried the gym, but it only kept me interested for a few months before I got bored. As a surfer all my life, I had always enjoyed being fit and healthy from an activity that didn't feel like a chore. After I moved to Charlotte, it was hard to keep surfing, so I had difficulty finding an activity that kept me motivated and active. I wanted something that would help me become faster, stronger, more powerful, and more enduring, and that I would actually enjoy. Then I found CrossFit and was immediately hooked.

It may sound like a worn-out saying, but it has been a total transformation for me. I consume healthier, sleep more soundly, have increased vigor, and most importantly, the exercises are enjoyable. I'm always eager for the next workout and usually check out the next day's Workout of the Day prior to even getting home. I'm a major supporter and wish you will come join us for a Workout of the Day.

I had a great time in basic training and did well in most of the physical activities. I also enjoyed the camaraderie of helping and motivating my fellow recruits. During my time in the Navy, I began lifting weights regularly.

After I finished my time in the Navy, I got a job, got married and began a family. During this period, I would participate in some recreational sports such as softball or flag football, but I was not as active as I had been before and I started to gain a few pounds. About a decade ago, I decided to get back in shape and started going to a regular gym. I read every magazine or book I could find about weightlifting. I lifted a lot of weights and believed that 30 minutes on the elliptical was enough. I thought I was in excellent shape.

After 16 years of marriage, my wife had been going to Crossfit and asked me to join her. I was not interested in doing group fitness, but I eventually gave in. I anticipated I would not be able to handle the workout, but I was wrong. My first session was 16 minutes of pull ups, pushups, and air squats. I was shocked at how much I could accomplish in such a brief amount of time. I was instantly hooked and a week later I cancelled my gym membership and have been doing Crossfit ever since. I have lost 15 lbs and am stronger than I have ever been.

My wife and I have been engaging in Crossfit for more than two years and it has had a huge impact on our lives. It is the ideal blend of weightlifting, running and other activities, as well as the added bonus of friendly competition and the camaraderie of great friends. I have always been passionate about aiding others and with my expertise in exercise and body mechanics, I started assisting at the gym. I am passionate about helping or encouraging someone to reach a goal they never thought they could attain, whether it is an air squat or a 400 lb. back squat. I am a firm believer in Crossfit and I want everyone I coach to feel the same way about it as I do.

I have been a resident of Charlotte since I was a child and have never lived anywhere else. Soccer has been my passion since I was five years old and I had no knowledge of any other sport or any experience in a weight room.

From a young age, I was a competitive gymnast and was part of the Junior Elite National Team for a few years. When I decided not to pursue gymnastics in college, I became less active. In 1998, I got married and two years later had a son. After having my son, I started playing tennis and joined various leagues. Although I had fun playing tennis, something was missing. I also tried going to a regular global gym, but I was unfamiliar with the exercises and didn't enjoy the aerobic classes.

At a swim meet, I met another parent who owned a Crossfit Gym. I had no idea what it was, but their explanation intrigued me. With a bit of encouragement, I decided to try it out and I was instantly hooked. I eventually convinced my husband, who is now a coach, to give it a go and here we are seven years later. It's hard to explain just how much I enjoy Crossfit, from the physical exercise to the friendships, the competition, and seeing people's progress as they achieve goals they never thought possible. It's also great for mental health and self-confidence.

When I started at Campbell University, I was starting to become very interested in physical fitness and was continuing to learn more about Strength & Conditioning. In my second year, I decided to take my athleticism to the next level by joining the Division 1 Cheerleading team. I always tell people that Cheerleading is the most challenging sport I have ever done and it's not for the faint of heart. Cheerleading had a huge impact on my life for the following five years, which eventually led me to earning my Masters Degree at Liberty University, where I was a part of the Cheerleading team for two years.

When I found out that I was a cheerleader, I was determined to make sure I was not only aesthetically pleasing and strong, but also athletic, flexible, and powerful. I started looking for summer training programs and came across Crossfit. I wasn't too keen on group fitness, but then I watched the 2014 Crossfit Games and saw all these muscular guys who were both powerful and had the ability to swim and run with ease. The next day, I went with a friend to his box and did a 6-minute AMRAP of 10 wallballs (20#), 10 KB swings (53#), and a 50m sprint. I managed to finish the workout, but afterwards I was lying on the floor for 10 minutes asking myself, "What just happened?!"

I was born and raised in Charlotte and I obtained my Bachelor of Arts in Communication-Media and a Bachelor of Arts in International Studies from NC State University in 2013.

I began Crossfit with the intention of getting stronger for triathlons, as all the training had taken its toll on my muscles. Someone had told me that it had helped them to improve their running times and I decided to give it a go. Others had warned me that I would like it so much that I would quit triathlons altogether. Fast forward two years and I had gotten my Crossfit Level 1 certificate and pull-ups had become one of my favorite exercises. I love working out in a group, as the stronger people push me and I can offer encouragement to those who are at the same level I was when I first started. I chose Kaiju because of the variety of classes available and I have stayed because of the camaraderie, community and friendships I have found there. The coaches are incredible and the people really care about helping you to become stronger, healthier and happier. It is a real blessing to be part of such a dynamic community.

We invite CrossFitters from all around the globe to come to our classes! The cost is either $20 or $30 plus a shirt. Please let us know in advance if you plan to attend, as our classes are limited in size.

Fantastic experience: The coaches at Kaiju are knowledgeable, experienced, friendly, and down-to-earth people. Coaches always take the time to explain and demonstrate the movements in the workout, they provide tips to maintain and improve form, and outline scalable options to ensure everyone is challenged responsibly at any fitness level. The community at this gym is truly one of a kind! There is a rich diversity in backgrounds and skill levels, and everyone has a positive, inclusive attitude. I’ve enjoyed training next to elite CrossFit athletes, as well as people just getting started back on their fitness journey, and I’ve been inspired by both. This gym is not overly flashy, but they’ve invested in quality equipment, and everything is well maintained. Everyone is welcome here, all ages and skill levels, just bring a positive attitude and willingness to learn!

Fantastic experience: Had my first work out this morning with BY and absolutely enjoyed every second. I felt welcomed as soon as I walked through the door. If I performed a movement wrong I was corrected without judgment. Pricing is competitive and the atmosphere is great. I'd definitely recommend.
