The Gravity Vault - Chatham, NJ

Fantastic experience: The atmosphere was easy going and fun. There were people of all skill levels climbing at the same time. The one-hour staff belay was great because it came with rentals and was just long enough for beginners to get the hang of it and want to come back.

Fantastic experience: I cannot say enough wonderful things about our experience today. The 3 leaders from the Chatham Gravity Vault team: Dior, Jessie and Eli that lead our group of 11, 8 year old girl scouts were incredible! They were were engaging, fun, encouraging, and kind. Dior remembered each girls name within 10 minutes and had the girls fired up instantly! Jessie inspired the girls as a previous girl scout to believe in themselves. Eli had calm specific directions on the wall to enable girls to get farther up each time. The team at the front desk were highly efficient, warm and fun to work with for our program! What a special place!

Fantastic experience: Professional staff, climbs suitable for different age groups and difficulties. I'd say the auto belays are pretty nice to have as well. The price to get in is pretty cheap for the whole day as well, I feel renting their shoes is a must or bringing your own climbing shoes.

Fantastic experience: Stephen was awesome for an Introduction to Rock Climbing. We came late but they were very understanding and kindly gave us the entire 90 minutes (and a bit more to let us finish our last climb!). The rate was great for the experience, and Stephen tailored the time perfectly to our skill level, even as a 5 person group with varying levels of experience. AMAZING fun and we will definitely be back :))

Fantastic experience: While I've only climbed here a few times, my son climbs here multiple times a week and has thoroughly enjoyed being part of the climbing team. This is a fantastic facility!

Fantastic experience: This is the gym that I frequent the most. They have weekly specials which are excellent and make it more affordable. The routes are slightly easier when comparing the same level. But they still have some very difficult routes.

Fantastic experience: Clean, organized. Holds are changed regularly. As far as a beginner-intermediate level gym, it has plenty of autobelays and child-friendly routes. For experts, the leading and great bouldering dynos (as far as its current set-up) should quench your climbing thirst. I suggest giving it a try, especially with NJRG closing.

Fantastic experience: My niece wanted to rock climb for her birthday. she’s 7 years old and went to a camp here at some point. My husband and I weren’t sure what to expect as never done it before. Wow! What a fun experience! Quite honestly it’s the staff that made the experience so much fun!! They were super encouraging and helpful not only for my niece and her brother but for us, too! We did several side by side climbs with the kiddos. The staff made it so fun that we can’t wait to do it again - great family outing!!

Fantastic experience: Took our kids here for a group class, had a wonderful time. Maggi the instructor was very good with the kids. All the kids got 3 or 4 turns each. They had a lot of fun. Covid Safety wise we felt good, everyone was masked, plenty of distance in between.

Fantastic experience: Had a great time here. We did an hour of staff belay which was plenty. By the time our hour was up, my forearms were burnt out. I'd definitely want to come back and try the bouldering on its own. Staff is pleasant & helpful. Facilities are clean and organized. The routes were a good workout.

Fantastic experience: Great place to climb if you’re a beginner or have been climbing for years and looking to stay strong. Community is great and the setting is good both bouldering and rope climbing.

Fantastic experience: Went for kids a birthday party, and I wound up climbing too! Staff was super friendly, facilities were clean and had the proper precautions for Covid-19 response, with hand sanitizer abound. Plenty of different walls for various skill levels and a whole bunch of bouldering walls for various skill levels along the back wall.

Fantastic experience: The gym is open again and the team did a great job with all the special considerations. There’s a reservation process online that’s very quick and easy to limit capacity. Plenty of PPE and safety protocols in place above what’s mandated. Everything is open except for some of the workout equipment in the corner. You have to wear a mask due to regulatory guidelines. Overall, I think the team did as good of a job as anyone could expect...glad they’re back open.

Fantastic experience: I love this place. The staff are knowledgeable and courteous. The facility is clean and the rented materials are in good condition. There are a variety of pricing options to choose from, so you dont have to break the bank to have fun. The environment is pretty welcoming, I've had convos with novices as well as people who have been climbing forever. It doesn't feel intimidating. I will say to be mindful of your fitness level when you come, because it can be a really humbling experience. Between my first climb and now I've dropped a good 70lb and can def feel it pulling myself up the wall. This will really test your strength and endurance, as well as your self-patience and ability to receive feedback from staff and friends. It's a lot of fun, can't wait to go back!

Fantastic experience: Awesome climbing gym with a great selection of routes. Came here to climb while home from college and the staff was extremely friendly and helpful. The setters here are fantastic, and have a wide variety of styles and difficulty levels set on the walls. The walls have a great variety of geometry and overhang. There are also 4-5 autobelays with a good selection of routes. The bouldering wall is also quite large with a good variety of overhangs and route types. I'll certainly be back.

Fantastic experience: First time at this location and loved it. A nice balance of top rope, bouldering and a few Auto belay devices. An employee (young woman with blond hair) helped me and my friends get belay certified quickly and safely. She was very friendly and helpful, as was the rest of the staff. Would recommend to other friends and family based on this experience. Also very close to Twin Elephant Brewing, which makes it worth the trip from CNJ.

Fantastic experience: Attended a local Sport competition at Gravity Vault during the 2019 season. The gym is a good sized gym with short to tall top rope and lead climb routes. Met a number of local climbers at the gym and they were very friendly and helpful. The competition was well organized and the staff knew exactly how to run the event with the 140 competitors. The gym was clean and fresh smelling (!) Bathrooms were clean too.

Fantastic experience: Ive been climbing here for 2 years. I love this place. Its a real climbers gym. They always change around the courses to get up. They also always have the friendliest staff and very fair pricing.

Fantastic experience: Short version: Best place to climb if you're in the area! Long Version: I've been climbing here almost since I got my first pair of la sportivas (about 4 months) and I have to say, I love it there. The people, staff and the gym itself are great. Upon entering the driveway you'll notice that you're starting at a tennis facility. They actually share a building with them, but you don't hear or notice it at all. If you want the best spots closest to the gym entrance, you need to drive straight back. Sometimes that lot gets full, so you can park in the tennis area. You can walk through the tennis gym to gravity vault. Just be mindful of the tennis facility hours when you leave (i.e. they don't have the same hours as gravity vault). In the lobby you'll find very friendly, helpful, and HAPPY staff (seriously...so cheerful!), a place to try on climbing shoes, should you decide to do so, a large room for parties/events. After you grab all your gear, sign your waiver(s) you're free to climb/learn how to climb. If you're unsure how to get started that friendly staff member will show you how to climb, what routes are best for you depending on if you're a bouldering or top rope gal/guy and more. They do have drinks, snacks, and climbing essentials like salve (if you need that/run out while you're there). If you're more experienced, you can rent/bring your own gear, get a belay check and you're on your way. If you're curious to what you should start climbing, there are guides on most walls to help you out. They also have technique and lead climbing classes if you'd like to up your climbing game with very wonderful and knowledgeable instructors. Price is very reasonable. You can purchase daily, monthly, or 3 month membership passes. Certain days of the week you can get a discount (they have BOGO, Ladies Night-Friday, Student Night etc.) on your daily pass. Rentals, which isn't included in the day pass, is decent as well. I love this place, and while I dont like sharing my wonderful finds, I had to this time. Chris, Dave, Ryan, Dorian, and everyone else at Gravity Vault Chatham- y'all are the best. See y'all on the wall.

Fantastic experience: Came here with family to have a fun day and get some exercise at the same time. With ages from 4 to 37 and five stops in-between, we were assigned two trainers to guide us and ensure our safety. Mission accomplished as we were challenged throughout our time, but made it to the top both individually, with legs tired together, or even blindfolded. By the time we finished, every muscle was worked out and it left us wanting to come back again. One word of wisdom, if you wear size 14 mens' shoes, you really should bring your own climbing shoes as the 14 they have is still too small and are really closer to a 12-13 and snug at that.

Fantastic experience: Great staff, very friendly and informative, ready to help or answer any questions. Fun and relaxing atmosphere, and everybody there is very friendly also. Alot of different climbs and variety for climbers of all ranks.

Fantastic experience: Great Rock climbing gym with plenty of bouldering and rope problems. Small workout/warm up space next to the hanging board. They just got new floor mats and lights so the place is looking great. The staff is super friendly and helpful.

Fantastic experience: Our first family climb. Staff were very welcoming and assisted us into our tight shoes. We only got to bolder but this is a large part of the gym with plenty of routes to try. We'll definitely be back!

They change the routes on the wall often enough to keep it challenging. The classes they offer are valuable yet affordable - completely worth the money. The Gravity Vault is a great place to meet up with some friends, get in a good workout and have fun in the process!
