Boxing Works: Opinions

Fantastic experience: Boxing Works Hermosa Beach is THE place in Los Angeles to learn the ART of Muay Thai (Thai Boxing). Ajarn Bryan Popejoy is among the elite instructors of Muay Thai; his vast knowledge and teaching methods of the art build technique, tactics and the mental aspects necessary to improve whether you are a beginner or have trained Muay Thai before. Training at Boxing Works is a guaranteed way to get a great physical work out while learning authentic Thai form. The staff, instructors and other gym members are all super nice and welcoming which makes the experience of training there even more awesome. Whether you have no idea what Muay Thai is, or you're looking to find a gym in the South Bay to continue your training, look no further than Boxing Works. Highly highly recommended!
Fantastic experience: I have been at Boxing Works for about a year and the first word that comes to mind is WOW! The training hear is extremely effective for competing, self defense, or just a great workout. Everyone is very respectful and loves to have a good time, but we train like fighters. You will always feel yourself progressing every class and realize just how amazing the training is, so call them up and give Boxing Works a try; it will be the best decision of your life!
Fantastic experience: Boxing Works is the best place to train Muay Thai in Hermosa Beach bar none. There is no one else who maintains the integrity of the Thai form and is attuned to the Muay Thai rhythms and tactics in fighting than Ajarn Bryan Popejoy. I love training here and wouldn't go anywhere else to learn Muay Thai. Aside from Muay Thai classes that give you a strong technical foundation and the best cardio workout ever, you can always learn something just watching the other students, fighters, and instructors in the gym. Everyone is friendly and willing to help each other improve. Come and check it out. You won't regret it. Again, it's the best Muay Thai gym in the South Bay!
Fantastic experience: Coach Duke is amazing. His boxing class is an amazing workout and has a focus on the fundamentals. The perfect place for someone to hone their skills or for someone just starting out. I hadn't had any experience prior to joining and I never felt like I was in over my head. The new location has anything you would look for in a boxing gym.
Fantastic experience: Had the honor of training at Boxing Works under the guidance of Ajarn Bryan Popejoy and Khun Kru Genelle Gaudinez. Awesome facility with great equipment. It's just a short run from the Hermosa Valley Greenbelt, which is a 3.5 mile wood chip trail. We'd do an early morning run before training. Respect is of the utmost importance here (as with any martial art). The instructors give you a challenging workout and you learn so much. Even had the chance to meet Buakaw, Julie Kitchen and Simon Marcus when they visited the gym last year. It's the best place to train for Muay Thai in the South Bay!
Fantastic experience: Boxing works, Hermosa beach is the best gym to train! The instruction is under Ajarn Bryan Popejoy. If you want to learn the art of Muay Thai this is the place to train.
Fantastic experience: I have been a member of Boxing Works for about 2 and a half years now. From day of taking the "Kids Muay Thai class" I fell in love with not only the sport, bu also the environment of the gym, the people and the coaching. At this point I spent as much time at Boxing Works as I possibly can throughout my day (not just because I'm now a part of the fight team) because I enjoy being around the people who are present at the gym. Everyone is extremely helpful, humble and respectful. I've had the chance to move to gyms that are closer to my home than Boxing Works but I don't think I'd ever be able to leave this place. It's become my home and I place full with people I can call family. I've learned more about myself at Boxing Works than I have learned anywhere else and it's by far the best to place to go for Muay Thai training, boxing and MMA.
Fantastic experience: Boxing Works in Hermosa Beach is THE premiere Muay Thai gym in SoCal. The instruction from Ajarn Bryan Popejoy is top-notch. He is a championship fighter and he is very nice and humble. His knowledge about both the techniques and the history of Muay Thai in the golden age is unparalleled. The gym itself is awesome; the heavy bags are in great condition and the mats are very nice. There is an additional area in the back with a legitimate boxing ring. It's an amazing feeling getting in that ring. I plan to keep training at Boxing Works for as long as I'm in the South Bay.
Fantastic experience: Wow, Boxing Works, where do I start? Boxing works has changed my life in so many ways. For one, during my weight loss journey I have lost a total of 73 pounds. I am currently training for my upcoming fight in the TBA-SA Muay Thai Classic 2012 with a record of 4-0 and will have to weigh in at 145. For me, that mean loosing 12 pounds in 12 days as an undefeated female muay thai fighter! I will have lost 85 pounds!! I have been training at Boxing Works for over 2 years and have learned so much! They offer Muay Thai, Boxing, and Fitness Kickboxing classes, complete with a heavy bags, a boxing ring and full set of weights in the back outdoor half of the gym and are completely female friendly. For me all the great instructors, the fighters on the fight team, and all the members in the place really make the gym a second home. I feel like people go out of their way to help others really improve and focus on their technique. Our head instructor, Bryan Popejoy is offering right now a 30 day FREE trial for you to try the gym out and see if you like it!! Yes that's right, you can follow in my and other fighter's and member's footsteps and set small goals for yourself and accomplish as much as you put in! Come on in to Hermosa Beach Boxing Works for your FREE tour of the gym and FREE first private lesson.
Fantastic experience: Boxing Works in Hermosa Beach is an amazing place to train! The facility itself is fully equipped with anything you might need, and the recent acquisition of permanent mats for the heavy bag area is heaven for your bare feet. All of the passionate instructors are top-notch and train people of all skill levels. I sat in on a beginner class once and Ajarn Bryan Popejoy managed to be very meticulous while still maintaining a perfect pace of instruction. So stop by and give Boxing Works a try! Just remember to pay your respects and wai :)
Fantastic experience: One of the top Muay Thai gyms in LA and has been for quite some time. Excellent Boxing program as well.
Fantastic experience: Boxing Works is great! Its clean and nice and the people are super friendly and encouraging. Its big enough to have equipment such as heavy bags and an actual ring, but small enough to be intimate and to get personal instruction. Its convenient from many neighborhoods on the west side. Muay Thai is so much fun and a great work out. I started just wanting to get some exercise and lose weight but after a month or so I was totally hooked and I became much more into the culture and the martial art. Ajarn Bryan is really cool and approachable. He is an amazingly skilled fighter with incredible timing and grace.
Fantastic experience: Boxing Works Hermosa Beach is the best gym for real, authentic Muay Thai (Thai Boxing) in the West Side and the South Bay. The Muay Thai you get is not a watered down version of the martial art but a real, refined form of it. Ajarn Bryan Popejoy teaches both the physical and tactical parts of Muay Thai, so you'll definitely get a work out AND a practical way to use the techniques you learn. If you're looking to learn and train Thai Boxing in one of it's purest forms, then it's here at Boxing Works. Who better to learn from than a champion level fighter and instructor? At Boxing Works, you will improve your game, challenge yourself, be part of a community, AND get in shape. Boxing Works is the place to train!! For those of you in Redondo Beach, Manhattan Beach, or any of the other Beach Cities, come out to Boxing Works and begin your Muay Thai training!!
Fantastic experience: Boxing Works in Hermosa Beach is most definitely the best and most rewarding gym to train at in the Southbay. It has a rich Muay Thai legacy and is the perfect gym to go to if you want to begin your training in the art as well as hone your skills and technique. Ajarn Bryan Popejoy is a stellar instructor and extremely friendly, and the same can be said about the people who train there. The facility is great and Boxing Works even has its own ring! This gym is by far one of the best spots in the West Coast to train at and is conveniently located. I've had some pretty amazing times training at Boxing Works and I have, and will continue to highly recommend the gym to anyone who is looking to get fit and cultivate themselves as students and fighters.
Fantastic experience: I began my Muay Thai journey at Boxing Works in Hermosa Beach. The one thing I can tell you is that Bryan Popejoy is one of the TOP trainers in the country and runs a SOLID and REAL Muay Thai gym. Regardless if your looking to be a K-1 star or just get in to shape you can't go wrong with Boxing Works! - Master Zingano
Fantastic experience: Truly a top quality muay thai gym in the South Bay area. Arajn Bryan Popejoy has created an environment in Hermosa Beach, where members are able to enjoy not only a solid physical workout, but learn techniques and art of muay thai. It doesn't get more authentic then Boxing Works, which is also equipped with new heavy bags, matted floors, and a out door boxing ring. If you are looking for a place to refine your skills or to start out, this is the place to be.
Fantastic experience: After hours of researching and asking around, I finally decided to join Boxing Works. Anyone and everyone that I have talked to said nothing but great things about this place so I knew I had to see it with my own eyes. It's only been about a month since I've joined, but I can tell you that Boxing Works is the BEST Muay Thai gym in the 310 area. Ajarn Bryan Popejoy is a well-known man in the Muay Thai world and the training and coaching is as authentic as they come! Just look at the number of fighters who end up winning belts...that should speak for itself. Instructors in the class really pay attention to you and make sure you get down the proper technique and form. I would not hesitate to recommend this gym to anyone who wants to learn legit Muay Thai. Hope to see you there!!!
Fantastic experience: I was brought to Boxing Works through a chance encounter with a former fighter from the gym who wanted to help me develop my Muay Thai and have never looked back since. Wether its the top notch training from their pool of experienced instructors lead by Ajarn Bryan Popejoy, or the continuous support and friendship from fellow fighters and members, Boxing Works continues to stay one step ahead of the rest and continues to provide me the tools I need to improve my abilities as a fighter. The training is constantly evolving and progressive, members and fighters are always growing and developing. When you walk into the gym you truly get a sense that Boxing Works is a family and the family is growing. Boxing works embodies the definition of teamwork. Everyone brings somethings special to the table. If you want to learn Muay Thai, MMA or Boxing from top tier instructors and you want to learn in an environment where your goals and success are just as important to your instructors as they are to you and you want to do so while having the most enjoyable experience in the process...Nothing can beat Boxing Works.
Fantastic experience: One thing that really strike me about Boxing Works is how warm and welcoming everyone is. It has the most family-like atmosphere of any martial arts or combat sports gym I have encountered. They teach a very authentic style of Muay Thai; the instructors are highly skilled and will work with you to develop proper and effective technique. Boxing Works caters to all levels: they have everything from introductory and children's classes to a very active and successful fight team. Boxing Works is an ideal place to train Muay Thai and if you live anywhere near Hermosa Beach, you should check it out
Fantastic experience: los angeles: the workout capital of the world! you have yoga studios, cardio gyms, weight rooms and martial arts schools. so what differentiates them all? what makes one more special than the other? i would say look at the management/owners and their philosophy. and boxing works in hermosa beach stands out! i met bryan popejoy (he's the long-time owner and i call him ajarn bryan) several years ago and my first impression of him was "ajarn bryan is the nicest and most humble man i have ever met in my life!" over the years, my first impression was the correct impression. you'll find out that he is a champion muay thai fighter; he has deeply rooted connections in the muay thai world. so, to me, he isn't someone i would expect to be humble. but he is. and i admire that in him and try to mirror that as well. it helps me to be a better person, and not just physically. so, it is this culture and philosophy that resonates throughout the whole school. this place isn't about glamor and glitz. if that is what you are looking for, to show off and wear the latest fashion at the gym, this place isn't for you! the gym is a no-nonsense kind of place with challenging workouts and quality instruction. it's not about who can pound out the fastest kicks or punches. but about learning things right and sharing and helping others. i think the workouts are tailored to each person as well. you're pushed just hard enough, but not too far so far that workouts aren't fun anymore. and it isn't so easy that you would get bored and feel unchallenged. this is the goldilocks gym, it's just right! and just right for you! check it out, and you'll see what i mean. thanks, steve
Fantastic experience: Nothing but friendly, focused, fun loving folk!!! This gym is in a league all there own with a real family friendly, family atmosphere you will leave this gym amazed and a LOT more dangerous!!! Boxing Work's instructors are champions in there respected arts many of whom are still competing. The wall of belts and trophies speak for themselves, but this place is much much more than just a fight gym, or a place to learn to protect yourself, or get in shape. You will soon see that thanks to the amazing people Boxing Works, maybe even without your realizing it becomes home. It did for me.
Fantastic experience: I love training Muay Thai at Boxing Works in Hermosa Beach! Ajarn Bryan Popejoy is a very kind, humble instructor. But don't let that fool you, he is a Muay Thai champion whose vast knowledge makes him an excellent teacher. Their facilities are top notch as well. I love sparring in that ring!
Fantastic experience: Highly recommend Boxing Works in Hermosa Beach!! As a female beginner when I first trained here it was intimidating to go to a real gym but Ajarn Bryan Popejoy is super friendly and all levels are accommodated. Everyone treats each other with respect and leaves their ego at the door. Also great facilities for a varied workout. If you want to try Thai Kickboxing this is definitely the best place to start!!
Fantastic experience: great place to train
Positive experience: This place does not offer gym only options. only classes. Never trained here, just leaving this as a note for others hence the 3 star.
Fantastic experience: I love this place
Fantastic experience: ROUNDHOUSE!!!

Fantastic experience: my favorite boxing gym^^
Fantastic experience: Great place led by the one, the only, the best looking Muay Thai coach this side of Redondo beach- Bryan Popejoy!
Fantastic experience: Best Muay Thai gym in the south bay.
Fantastic experience: My nephew kick boxes up here and really enjoys this place. Seems very clean, well lit, and a great over all atmosphere, espiecially for the younger kids. We need to support more small businesses in our community like this one. You figure the over head at a prime location such as this one isn't cheap so if you have the time and this is something you might be interested in, why give your money to the big guys? Support your local small business like this one.

Fantastic experience: Always a great experience training here!
Positive experience: Went here for a boxing class, the lesson itself was really good however it would have been nice to have a stretch or warm up as part of the class. This class focuses only on technique rather than including some condition training, so it feels somewhat incomplete. There are no showers in the place, they did have a little area for weight training. Besides the monthly membership fee ($149) there is a down payment ($125) you have to pay to become a member which i thought was strange.
Fantastic experience: This place is truly amazing, all the coaches are really nice patient and supportive.
Fantastic experience: Bryan, the head coach and owner is one of the nicest and most humble people I've ever met. My partner and I visited from London and were staying nearby so we were only there a few times but Bryan made sure we felt at home every time we went. It's a great place to start martial arts because the coaches are so patient, but equally, if you are a competitive athlete in the sport there are plenty of well accomplished fighters in the gym also. Beautiful muay Thai, beautiful people. Hope to go back again. Thanks for everything Boxing Works! Alanna & Greg
Fantastic experience: very good muay thai gym with goods teacher and good mentality, i recommand
