West Lafayette Wellness Center: Opinions
Fantastic experience: Love coming to work out here. Everyone is friendly and inviting. It's clean. It doesn't smell like a gym. The pool is fantastic! Their trainers are available to answer questions. I love that you don't have to pay extra for group activities!
Fantastic experience: Love the indoor track
Fantastic experience: Good
Fantastic experience: Great Gym
Fantastic experience: Very nice facilities and friendly people.
Fantastic experience: My kids and I love it here! It is very clean, the pool is awesome and the changing areas and restrooms are all single-stall non-gendered facilities. I am very happy with my membership.
Positive experience: Gym is well designed. However, the weekend hours are limited.
Fantastic experience: Great place to walk outside.
Fantastic experience: Nice and clean pool and dressing area! I really like coming here!
Fantastic experience: Great facilities to maintain a healthy lifestyle. Tons of programs, kid stay-and-play, and a great staff. I mainly swim each day. Only four lap lanes, but there is almost always an open lane, and the other swimmers are accommodating to share. Changing rooms and bathrooms are unisex (single person) and immaculately clean. Prices are good for family passes: $75/month.
Fantastic experience: State of the art new family friendly facility! Enjoyed a tour June 1st. Looking forward to starting classes this week!
Fantastic experience: Great gym in the west lafayette area with a lot of parking and open most of the day. I do wish there was more weekend availability however when it is open the equipment is always open, the staff is nice, it is clean, and the pool is very nice. The Pool not only has more lap lanes than most gyms but it also has competitive starting boards.
Fantastic experience: Excellent gym
Fantastic experience: Wonderful facility with many great features. The hours could be better, but overall I'm satisfied! My favorite is the indoor track - Perfect for walking when it's not nice outside.
Fantastic experience: Very clean and relaxing atmosphere.
Fantastic experience: Love this community wellness space, but they don’t follow their posted hours…showed up on New Years Day at 1:15 hoping to get a workout in before their posted closing time of 2:00 pm and they were closed. Also signed up for a yoga class on Dec 31 at 12:30 and waited with four other people for a half hour for an instructor. If a class is going to be cancelled, please remove it from your app so no one signs up or find a way to notify the people who have signed up, please.
Fantastic experience: Positive: Quality
Fantastic experience: Update: I happened to see the janitor cleaning the change rooms so I asked about his cleaning schedule. Change rooms are power washed once a week and UV light cleaned at least every other day. I would also like to add that the gym has a smaller private room that is underused and very available for people who want to work out alone without a mask. I've also used the classroom upstairs without a mask when I am alone in there. I got family membership almost a month ago and had nothing but positive experiences here so far. Facilities are well sanitized throughout the day, change room have uv light sanitation. Very few people coming to the gym. Less than 5 people during weekdays at the workout space upstairs. Pool is also equally empty. Probably busier on weekends. My son's private swim instructor is superb. I love my personal trainer Ember. The equipment is all great too. Last but not least, the childcare room has lots of toys and activities for all ages, and the workers there actively engage with all the kids.
Fantastic experience: Parent’s Night Out 10/15/21. My son can’t wait to return for another PNO, or any kid friendly activity at the Wellness Center. I was nervous leaving him since it was his first time there, plus he seemed worried I was going to leave. But once he walked into the Clubhouse, it’s like I disappeared and he never looked back. I can’t tell you how much of a comfort it is to a mother’s heart, when their child feels safe and comfortable when being cared for by others. Thank you for hosting such a fun exciting night for all the children. We can’t wait for the next one and very much looking forward to Fall Fest. Keep up the great work. Brandy P.
Fantastic experience: Positive: Communication , Professionalism , Quality
Positive experience: I’ve only actually biked past when the center was closed, but I checked it out from the outside and it looks really nice. I talked to a very friendly man at the West Lafayette Farmers’ Market about all of their offerings, features, pricing, etc. and it seems great - I just wish memberships were subsidized (more?) by the city and that there was some sort of sliding scale pricing option for those residents who cannot afford the monthly fee but would benefit greatly from access to the facility. As far as I know this project was funded by TIF district borrowing (although they explicitly describe it as not borrowing - that’s absolutely ridiculous) which means it’s paid for by future property tax increases (or possibly leftover funds from previous borrowing against then-future property tax increases) so essentially we’re paying a membership fee for access to a facility that we’re already paying for – which is not inherently bad, but under those circumstances I’d expect some more flexible/accessible pricing options. Just my 2¢ ♂️. Also why’d they have to build it on top of the former community garden plots? Those were already at a major premium. Oh well.
Fantastic experience: very friendly place good for whole family swimming pool and clubhouse are great more programs on the way
Fantastic experience: STAFF IS FRIENDLY
Fantastic experience: Positive: Communication , Professionalism , Quality
Fantastic experience: Very clean, orderly, family-oriented.
Fantastic experience: I was on the fence at first but once Brock B took me on a fantastic tour...I signed up on the spot. His tour was informative and incredible, he made me wish I had my workout clothes right then and there. This facility was designed well but cannot run as a 5 star gym without the help of Brock B. I do not know where they found that worker, but they need to give him a raise because he embodies everything that West Lafayette Wellness Center is about; Athleticism, Cleanliness, and Passion.
Fantastic experience: Positive: Communication , Professionalism , Quality
Fantastic experience: I like the point that mask is enforced in the facility except swimming pool. It is not easy to wear it during cardio; althought, it reduces chance of people especially elderly who uses factility as well to get infected. Little inconvenient for you is worth a life of the others.
Positive experience: Update 01/02/2022: (docking off a point specifically to train front desk customer service staff to be nice, first time had this experience at a gym and she's a repeat offender in terms of rudeness) Brandon, August, Angela Tharp, Lisa Tharp are awesome (the word awesome is an understatement). But be careful of the don't-know-her-name rude front desk female who will not let you set badminton nets (was RUDE with my son) and seems to be having a terrible time at the front desk bullying folks for using the bathroom after the gym closes on their way out. I used the bathroom on my way out at 5:04p (gym closes at 5p on Sunday, yeah very early) and she said I need you to leave by 5p (rudely), as if waiting to bully me, ruining my workout mood! Surely, you don't hate being at the front desk so much. Wow, please don't let crabby folks work at the gym. Will get her name next time. My son was very upset at the way she behaved and that too needlessly during the holiday season. West Lafayette - City Government, West Lafayette Parks & Recreation Department. Old review before the terrible front desk experience: Modern facility with groupX classes. Wish it had Les Mills Body Pump and Grit. Also hot tub and sauna missing, would be great to have a large sauna especially given how large and modern the place is. The facility closes early. Not sure how helpful opening at 5am is but please stay open till 9pm at a minimum. I'm sure the city can afford it :)
Positive experience: The gym is very nice and clean. It is ridiculous to enforce masks during exercise. I'm glad more people are starting to take them off upstairs.
Fantastic experience: Very friendly staff inside of clean and beautiful place
