Jersey City Muay Thai: Opinions

Fantastic experience: I have been training for two years and going strong at Jersey City Kickboxing and I've gotta say joining was one of best decisions I made in my life. As a kid I have always been interested in martial arts; At the age of eleven I did a little tae kwon do here, a little karate there but never really took it seriously because the instructors weren't serious and frankly just didn't know what they were doing. Time flew, I turned 20 and one of my friends told me about Jersey city kickboxing and this place was just amazing. The training is real and there is something for everyone in this gym. If your in it for self- defense and take your training seriously it is a guarantee you will learn how to kick ass, if you wanna just lose weight that's just fine too cause the classes are so structured in such a way that not only will get results your actually gonna wanna exercise and have fun doing it, Feelin like getting jacked will lucky for you the gym has multiple weights and machines at your disposal so really the gym's gotcha covered from all angles. As for the people everyone is friendly and get along with one another people just go there and work on improving themselves. The coach is an awesome dude, with Paul Clark not only do you get a coach with 32 years of experience and an arsenal of martial arts to teach you but you also get a new family member because he actually cares about you as a student and person the way a coach should and he will make you push to your fullest potential; Not only that but he is also just a positive person that will make you feel at home. Great gym with everything to offer, its just how I see it. --- Ehab Elghandor
Fantastic experience: First can I please start by saying how much I love NJ Kickboxing. My son Jayson Jr. did Tae Kwon Do for over a year prior to joining. Although I will not bad mouth Tae Kwon Do, I will say we are having a less costly better experience. My son bragged about Kickboxing so much after he started attending my daughter Ellie begged to join. Hesitant as I was my husband convinced me to let her join. Well thank God I did. She proved to have such talent. She enjoys it so much. Paul can tell you I am a fanatic on rules, self-confidence and being able to defend yourself. I feel my children receive all these skills at NJ Kickboxing. It is important to me for my children to always be respectful and I know for a fact Paul does not allow any disrespect in his gym and I, for one, truly appreciate that. I also love that my kids are not just students at another sport or activity. I can honestly see how much Paul cares about each and every one who attends the gym. He takes time to get to know his students. That is important and shows just how excellent his business skills are. My two little guys were having such an awesome time that my oldest Kayla who is 20 also started attending. She really enjoys it. Honestly my decision to switch my son was the best one. I feel that Paul's amazing attitude along with his expertise are truly what keep that gym so packed. He is not just my kids coach, we consider him a family friend!
Fantastic experience: My sister and I recently started going to Paul's gym. My sister did it before in the old gym and now we are both taking Paul's class in the new gym and we LOVE it. He's a great coach. He knows what he's doing and the thing we love about him is that he never gives up on his students. The way he teaches the class is great because he uses different techniques to teach us and everyday we learn and do different things.
Fantastic experience: My son is 16 years old and has been training with Paul for about three years now. I have always witnessed Paul show his patience and understanding towards the teens class, which I know can be tough. All the kids love going, the environment is welcoming and it shows with everyone walking in with a huge smile on their face. My son is determined to make it every day. As a single mother this gym means a lot to me when he started he went in with a bit of an anger issue and husky. He is now trim confident and content. For a teenage boy to want to keep a commitment even though it calls for a lot of hard work and training, means Paul must be doing something right. I recommend the Jersey City Kickboxing gym and Paul to anyone who asks.
Fantastic experience: My children have been going to this kickboxing gym for the last three and a half years. Paul guides his students in the best way possible. He personally holds mitts and shares all that he has learned in this art. A nice coach that disciplines when needed. He is a very involved coach, one that will check up on you because that the type of person he is. I would recommend this gym to those looking for an activity unlike the typical martial arts class.
Fantastic experience: My son has been attending Jersey City Kickboxing for about 3 years now. My son absolutely loves it. I couldn't be more proud of the progress he as made not only in learning the skills but as a person. Paul is an amazing coach and a great mentor. He has a positive influence on his students. He also genuinely cares about the students and loves to teach. I recommend Jersey City Kickboxing to anyone.
Fantastic experience: I have been going to Jersey City Kickboxing for about a year now and my experience has been great!! I joined the gym because I wanted something different from your typical gym. This is my first experience with kickboxing and didn't really know what to expect. I first did a one day trial and liked the approach/ atmosphere. Paul is very engaging and is constantly pushing us to improve our technics. While is a group training, he pays attention to each individual and wants to make sure you are getting the most out of each session. He monitors our progress and knows when to push you to the next level. He also genuinely cares about the students. I have joined several gyms over the years, but this is the first time I have consistently gone to the gym for a year. This is because of the typing of coaching you receive and the friendly atmosphere. I highly recommend JCKickboxing!!
Fantastic experience: I have been going for about 4 months now. I started out with private lessons and now I am going to the classes. The workouts will transform your body. Gain muscle and lose fat without ever getting bored. Private lessons and classes are never the same. Paul, the owner, really cares about everyone that belongs to his gym. ****I highly recommend this gym for anyone that easily grows bored of workouts and wants to get into great shape!
Fantastic experience: Coach Paul is an awesome guy. I started going to the gym because I needed a change in my life. Not only is it a gym but its a family. I know when I go to the gym and i need some advise or just need to talk I can aproach coach Paul. Its not your regular run of the mill gym. They care about there students. I will always keep going to the gym.
Fantastic experience: I've been here for a little over a year, and this is the best place I've been to or seen in Hudson county and the places I've been in the city for traditional Muay Thai. First off, I was looking for ONLY a traditional Muay Thai gym , which is rare to begin with (there's some western boxing here as well). I've always wanted to learn something different, off the beaten path, and have been looking for a gym for years. Everyone now is riding the MMA wave, which is fine, but I'm not into that. I went to a few Muay Thai gyms in NYC, but those were horribly overcrowded. The classes here are not crowded at all, with at max between 10-15 people and Paul is able to monitor each and every person, from the beginner class to the advanced class. Without me having to tell him, he noticed right off the bat that I had a martial arts background and was able to appropriately check in with my progress and help me translate it to a Muay Thai setting. Once you get into the intermediate and advanced levels, classes are even more personal and you really get to work on technique. This is a REAL gym, down to the real gloves that are recommended. No cheap Everlast gloves from Sports Authority in here. But it's not intimidating at all. Everyone is welcomed and treated like family around here. And all the other trainers, from John, to Anna, and the whole staff, are more than capable teachers Even if you're only looking for a place to get into shape, I'd still say this is better than a cardio kickboxing facility. Those places are mills too, just trying to jam in as many people as possible. Here, even in the beginner classes, you'll still get pointers on form and technique from an actual fighter, something you wouldn't get at your run of the mill cardio kickboxing place. This was the ONLY place I've been to where that happened from my very first class. Overall, I'm probably in the best shape I've been in years because of this place.
Fantastic experience: Paul has really helped me get in the best shape I've been in since I played high school sports. It's an awesome atmosphere with state of the art equipment. He really knows how to motivate me to push myself as hard as I can. I recommend this place to anyone interested in not only Kickboxing, but also just getting in shape. I've lost 15 pounds in just a couple months and still dropping weight. I have had double digit surgeries on my knees and Paul has me on a particular routine that has made an unbelievable difference. He has an elliptical and a row machine that are incredible for cardio and great for my knees. The bad review on here is not true at all. I love this place.
Fantastic experience: After my trip to Indonesia this summer, I decided to begin training in Martial Arts. I had a genuine zeal for Muay Thai and began to research gyms in my area. That's when I found Jersey City Kickboxing. I've been training since May 2015 and I am extremely pleased with the results. I am not only getting fit, I am learning the Martial Art of Muay Thai and as a result, my stress levels are down and my confidence has increased. Coach Paul is a phenomenal trainer, who is dedicated, patient, knowledgeable and focused. His ability to teach and coach a variety of students with a diversified world view, makes the gym experience at JCK worth attending. You will definitely see the results of each workout.
Fantastic experience: I've been training at this gym for almost 2 years and the place has been good to me. Not only will you get in physical shape, but you will also learn how to properly punch and kick through bag, mitt and pad drills. This isn't your regular CKO gym where they randomly tell you to hit bags. The instructors will actually show you how to properly kick, punch and defend against your opponent. I originally joined to acquire structure in my life but received more than expected. Through the guidance of Paul, Anna, John and Pablo I've gained discipline and strength and made some great friends along the way. If you're interested to get in shape and learn the art of Muay Thai, then you've come to the right place.
Fantastic experience: I like this For $150 a month you can hit people
Fantastic experience: Positive: Communication , Professionalism , Quality , Value Simply the best school in the city- forget those corporate school that don’t teach u jack. Rather u advanced or a novice, you will find your rhythm- it’s fun, it’s clean, it’s affordable. Bravo
Fantastic experience: After exploring a few neighborhood options for boxing gyms, I decided on Jersey City Kickboxing. The owner and coach, Paul, is an experienced, motivating, and caring instructor who genuinely believes in helping you and guiding you. No matter your background, shape, size, age, whatever... you'll feel welcomed in this gym by the instructors and members alike. I've been boxing on and off for over ten years now, and I've trained in a number of gyms in Manhattan. Jersey City Kickboxing is exactly what I was hoping to find when I moved to JC. I can't recommend it enough.
Fantastic experience: Best gym in JC with the best of coaches. You don’t walk in and feel out of place here because everyone’s so welcoming. I’ve been going here for a couple of months and my confidence has gone up, strength, knowledge, and I found a new stress reliever haha. You definitely won’t be disappointed with coming here, you will see results! All the coaches are knowledgeable, caring, and will make sure you got your money’s worth of a workout in. ☺
Fantastic experience: Amazing gym with amazing coaches. If you want to learn to fight well, look no further. Paul is a legendary instructor who looks after his students as if they are family.
Fantastic experience: amazing gym with world class coaching!
Fantastic experience: I have trained at MANY gyms before. The staff knowledge, individualized instruction, and sense of community has kept me at this gym. Jersey city kickboxing is able to produce skillful fighters by providing direct instruction and many opportunities for practice through multiple modalities. I would highly recommend this gym to any fighter.
Fantastic experience: Just wanted to share my experience at this amazing gym, I’ve been training for almost a year at different gym and I wanted to compete, but my ex coach used to tell me that I’m not ready and I needed more time, He never hold pads for me or train me one to one, He wanted me to hire him as a personal trainer if I wanted to get better on MT and get ready for the fight. I got tired of that and The money I was spending there without any outcome, so I stared looking for another gym and I found this place. Called and went in, it toke me just one hour to decide to join the gym, Paul the coach over there does not care about any money, meaning he doesn’t push student to hire him as a personal trainer to learn, he just teach u and spend time with u for free, and he always says it’s an art that I wanna pass over to my student, and they can pass it to others. That’s being a coach and real one. So glad i went there and I’m competing next month. I believe that’s the only gym on the area that gives women the same attention or probably more than they give it to man. Will not switch for nothing and planing on getting a tittle soon Cz all I need is my team and my coach to get it.
Fantastic experience: Jersey City Kickboxing is definitely top places to train in Jersey City. Great coaches, clean gym. They focus on discipline, healthy lifestyle, and great technique. Nothing like being around friendly people and coaches who make the experience of learning and growing phenomenal!
Fantastic experience: I have came to this gym for quite some time now and i have to say that their classes are amazingly flexible when it comes to trying to fit in some training in your busy schedule from morning to night. The coaches are always open to helping you and the seasoned students as well when newcomers arrive to understand the art. Everyone treats each other like family and it is a non judgmental environment. I am an active fighter as well and if you are looking to compete, Coach paul will make sure to get you a fight whenever you feel that you are ready. All of the coaches will make sure you get to where you want in terms of your intentions of the art! They also offer alot of sparring sessions throughtout the week and i guarantee that it is newcomer friendly as well as for fighters who want to engage and better their craft. If you are around the jersey city area, i suggest you come check it out. Private sessions are also available at decent rates with unique trainers that will make sure you get the most of your individual attention!
Fantastic experience: A really great experience. I had no idea what to expect before joining and was admittedly nervous since I have never done any boxing, martial arts, etc. From the start, Paul, every instructor and all of the students were welcoming. It's a great atmosphere where I felt challenged but not intimidated. Whether you just want a good work out or you're looking to get serious about muay thai, the instructors are happy to work with you. The location is great and the schedule is really flexible. I would recommend Jersey City Kickboxing to anyone of any age.
Fantastic experience: Great gym! Coach Paul is very attentive and gives the students any help they might need. I got into the sport a couple of months ago and after trying out a couple gyms that didn’t work, (they just wanted money) this one was perfect. The rates here are VERY reasonable that you won’t find anywhere else, especially in this area. It’s nice to be in a place where the coach actually cares about your progress and not just about what’s in your wallet. The coaching and the training itself is very well throughout and the workout is just amazing. I’ve learned so much in the past couple of months I’ve been here and definitely plan to continue it. This is a real deal Muay Thai gym. When you’re here, you’re treated like an equal and get to work with some really great people.
Fantastic experience: Paul and his team are really good people! I enjoy cross training with their gym! If you’re in the area, def check them out!
Fantastic experience: Paul and his team are very knowledgeable individuals within the sport and are also very welcoming. Great gym for anyone looking to get their first exposure to Muay Thai with very flexible classes and also great for kids! Would highly recommend this gym to anyone!
Fantastic experience: The gym is superb. Paul and his coaching staff are kind, patient and very knowledgeable. My boxing skills have improved a lot and it's always fun to go to the gym--good atmosphere, clean and tidy, everyone is supportive, and you always get a great workout. I love the place.
Fantastic experience: One of the best gyms I have ever been to. I've trained at several gyms and this has been my favorite. The coaching staff have improved my skills and helped me lose 50 pounds. The community here is friendly and supportive and it has a great environment to better your life.
Fantastic experience: Great place and awesome instructors!
Fantastic experience: This kickboxing gym has a community feel, where everyone feels comfortable and welcome. When starting, it's always a challenge to get into the new routine and it helps a lot to see other people being supportive at the gym. The coach always puts a lot of effort in making this a personalized experience to ensure that everyone receives the level of attention needed for their level of experience in kickboxing. Be ready to have lots of laughs, as joking is common in a tasteful matter, and the same time to train hard with motivation from the coach. I started this gym to release tension from work and to get in shape, kicking and punching some bags is perfect for that. I found out there's more to it such as the warm-up exercises (so intense, that you won't have time to think about anything but getting it done), personalized technique, and motivation to succeed. I think anyone that would come to the gym, just by looking around would recognize this, and I encourage everyone to looking to get fit to come and visit.
Fantastic experience: Best spot to train with a coach who is passionate in what he does and can also relate to you on a personal level. Most entertaining workout you can have in an hour and it constantly changes. Very comfortable setting and Paul Clark is a great coach for kids.
Fantastic experience: I've been training with Paul at Jersey City Kickboxing for 5 or 6 years now. I've never been as in shape as I am now and it's really really fun. Paul is a professional mua thai fighter with several national championships and tons of experience fighting in Thailand. So if learning mua thai is your goal then this is the place to do it.
Fantastic experience: I joined the gym five months ago looking to become stronger, more fit, and perhaps capable of fighting off thugs on the street if it ever happens. I’m not athletic and don’t follow boxing/MMA, but I enjoy the training just as much. I think the most important reason is because it's such a friendly place. Going to the gym is almost like going home -- You know almost everyone's name and if there's an unfamiliar face, you introduce yourself and offer helps. If you got lazy and disappeared for too long, you get yelled at by the funny yet strict trainer Paul. And it doesn't nickel and dime you if you join Private Training sessions. (More than once Paul said to me "no charge tonight because you are too rusty.") Classes usually start with 10-min skipping rope, 7-min strength building (crunches, squats, push-ups, etc.), and 3-min shadow boxing. Then you either practice hits/kicks on various bags in beginner's class, or in advanced class, you pair up and rotate with someone comparable to practice all kinds of moves using mitts/pads. And then if you are ready or simply feel adventurous, just put on all the protective gears and spar away~~ As mentioned earlier, I'm not athletic, so it's taking me more time than other people to learn to jab or kick correctly. And it'll take me even longer to become really strong to move with power. But these weaknesses don't frustrate me because I'm having tons of fun and I know I'm making progress, however slowly it is. Last but not least is about the location -- The building houses about a dozen of other fitness studios. For example, you can go yoga, ballet, or ballroom dancing after kickboxing. How more convenient can you ask for?!
Fantastic experience: I started the beginners course on March 2nd and after 2 months Ive learned so much and lost 10 pounds doing it! Great instructors and great environment!
Fantastic experience: I joined jerseycitykickboxing when I turned 16 years old I'm currently 21 and I'm still attending the gym that's how great Coach Paul is. This is the only authentic Muay Thai gym I know of. Even though I've been here for 5 years Paul is still able to teach me new moves and techniques. Also the atmosphere is great it's literally like a family gym no one there judges or brings in any negativity. Plus it's a good place to network since there are so many people in different fields of careers. In addition the workouts are hard but fun to do and coach Paul walks you through it. He demonstrates how to do a move and if your still struggling he'll walk over and help you do it until you get it down. There's even a teen and kids class that takes place at the gym. There's nothing but positively and motivation here and Coach Paul helps everyone achieve their fitness goals, whilst learning how to defend yourself. It's honestly by far the best gym I've ever joined, and I will continue my journey here for as long as I can.
Fantastic experience: The special thing about this gym is the community. Not only are the Coaches all fantastic, but the members are some of the nicest, more genuine people you'll ever meet. Just like Jersey City, people are from all different walks-of-life. Surgeons, Lawyers, Fire fighters, Police officer, business owners - I have been punched in the face by all of them. Seriously, people are welcoming; you can ask all the questions you like and you'll never, ever feel judged. On a less personal note, JCKB is a tremendous value. You do not pay per class. You have unlimited opportunities to train, as well as interact with coaches and professional fighters. This is not simply a cardio gym - I mean, there is intense cardio - but you won't be packed in with a host of other people and just expected to hit bags for an hour. You will actually learn about what you're doing so as to build an appreciation for it and prevent injury. JCKB has done a lot for me and I couldn't recommend it more.
Fantastic experience: Signing up for advanced classes might have been one of the best moves I've made in my adult life. The main instructor/owner Paul is the real deal when it comes to martial arts. He's got professional boxing, judo, and Muay Thai skills, and he's also very down to earth and helpful. The classes aren't easy at all, and if you're up for putting in the work the coaches here can make you a legit fighter. When I signed up I was 20 pounds heavier, smoking, and could not run more than a mile. Six months later I am sparring 5 minute rounds no problem, running 3 miles regularly, quit smoking, and am looking to take my first amateur fight. The gym is really welcoming, and you absolutely get out what you put into your training here. No doubt you'll get in better shape and learn some skills. If you push yourself Paul and co. can prepare you for amateur or professional fights. This place is worth it and in my opinion its the best place to train in the area.
Fantastic experience: My 3 kids and myself have been training over there for 3 years now. Perfect place for us. Ive been training in Muay Thai for over 10 years and was happy to find a place near me. Flexible hours as well as good vibes from the main coach and other students alike! 10 ⭐️!
Fantastic experience: I’ve had a positive experience training at the gym. I’m a professional working woman and wanted to stay in shape ( I used to have a normal gym membership and did different types of classes) but also wanted to be able to protect myself. Although this is a professional kickboxing gym they offer 40 classes a week for me to choose from 7 days a week and I only pay 115 a month. I’ve lost 10 lbs in a month. These classes are designed to teach and help people get in shape and actually learn real kickboxing/ boxing and Muay Thai. Every class I have two trainers holding mitts and pads pushing me. This is not a cardio gym that has 50 bags that all look the same with someone screaming at you in a microphone. The head coach makes sure the classes are not too full and limits class sizes to actually teach. He teaches all the classes with assistant coaches who are active fighters. They also have a weight room and all the cardio machines if you just feel like zoning out and hitting the treadmill...The gym has a local community feel, they don’t try and sell you t shirts, gloves etc... They have large Clean locker rooms with 4 showers and they are very clean. The classes are half men and women and I’ve never felt uncomfortable. Although 90% of the students don’t compete, we are always invited to watch as there is a fight team that competes in Friday Night fights and in NJ/ Pa. They even take students to Thailand once a year to train and compete. They let the gym be a open time in the mornings while the fighters train and it’s super motivating to watch them hit pads and spar and get ready. I love it!
Fantastic experience: Jersey City kickboxing is a good facility in Jersey City that is a small distance from Manhattan to teach of all types of people of all levels and it was really detailed and bringing people along as martial artist in Fighters as well. The coaches knowledgeable has experience and is really good with his fighters in terms of training and preparation and takes good care of them while providing other people with good Fitness training
Fantastic experience: Coach Paul is amazing. He helped motivate me to reach my goals and even make new ones. Before coming here I was a couch potato for years so I felt pretty unsure if I'd be able to keep up but I did. And made a lot of friends that gave me really good tips on techniques. Love that place and honestly can't wait to go back.
