I started working out at Fitness HI almost a month ago and I'm really enjoying it. In the past, I've been to gyms like 24 hour fitness, Orange theory and CrossFit, but as I've gotten older I've started to experience more injuries. I took a break from working out for about 8 months to heal, and then I started looking for a place to get back into shape. I'm so glad I found Fitness HI. The owner, Ryan Pang, is great. I'm currently enrolled in semi-private training, which means he designs the workouts specifically for my personal goals. He also watches me very closely to make sure I'm doing the exercises correctly, because I have a tendency to rush through them. I've noticed big changes in my strength and endurance since working out with him, and it's only been a month. Fitness HI just moved to a larger space, which is great. There are no large weight benches or machines, just simple equipment like sandbags, TRX, kettlebells and medicine balls. I actually get a much better workout with this equipment than I did at other gyms. Everyone at Fitness HI is extremely welcoming. The environment is casual, supportive and encouraging. I would definitely recommend checking it out.

I was hesitant to try FitnessHI because I wasn't sure if it would work, but my friends who go there have had amazing results. I decided to give it a try, and I'm so glad I did! In just 6 weeks, I lost 15 pounds under Ryan's guidance of eating the right food and strength/metabolic classes! I've been a member of other gyms in New York City, but I've never had such impressive results. Ryan is very knowledgeable and he really cares about helping you reach your fitness goals. I am in better shape now than I have been in many years. I am in my 60s and when I started working out, I knew that this would be my last chance to get in shape. I see too many people my age who are stooped over and have to ask other people to help them pick something up off the floor. They are also very stiff and have no stamina. I knew that if I did not start working out, I would be in the same shape as them. I was a bit hesitant to start working out at a gym because I have had two hip replacements and I was told by my doctor not to exceed a certain range of motion. However, I found a gym that is perfect for me. The coach there designs a workout routine that is constantly changing and takes into account my physical limitations. I have never hurt myself while working out because the coach watches me and corrects my posture and movements. I have also never been so fit in my life.

My friends had been telling me about this gym for months, and to be honest, I wasn't a huge fan of the idea of exercising in a gym. I didn't think I could exercise with my bum ankle. However, after months of delaying, I took the plunge and went for a consultation. I've been hooked ever since! The workouts are totally awesome, and the people are great. They're super encouraging and very welcoming. Ryan designs his workouts to be challenging and fun, so time goes by very quickly. He also has alternatives for all his workouts, which was very important to me. Plus, it makes you feel good about yourself. Exercising at Fitness HI gym has made a huge difference in my yoga practice. I've seen big changes in my friends after they took the "jeans challenge," and I can't wait to do the "LBD Challenge." I have always been physically active and have stuck to the same daily routine with weights and cardio machines for many years. However, my back would go out on me 2-3 times a year and would spasm after sitting for a couple of hours at my desk. I just figured this was the price of getting older and didn't think I needed a trainer. Since Ryan has trained me, my back has improved significantly and I feel stronger despite exercising less frequently. Ryan has definitely helped me, so give him a try.

After surgery and physical therapy for a rotator cuff injury, I was still unable to raise my arm without pain and stiffness. Ryan worked with me to increase my range of motion as well as strengthen my core, so that I can now lift my arm straight up without pain or difficulty. Plus, the workouts are a lot of fun and never boring.

I originally decided to participate in the drop 2 sizes challenge because I knew my co-worker Jennie Mi was going to do this. I had gained 12 pounds since I wasn’t able to do my usual walk/runs, yoga practice or bar pilates because of arthritis pain in my hips. I finally had bilateral hip replacement in May of 2016. The timing of this Loose 2 sizes Jeans challenge was perfect for me as I was planning to get into exercises and this seemed like a good way get back into all my “skinny” clothes in my closet. I know 12 lbs doesn’t seem like much, but when you’re 5’ tall, it seems more like 20 lbs! I really thought I knew a lot about diet but found out I had a lot to learn! This was about eating clean, without added salt, sugar and preservatives. You have to read labels because you cannot trust things on the packaging that say “healthy”, “gluten free”, “organic” to be good for you. There’s still crap in there. The longer the list of ingredients, the more to beware of in packaged food! This whole process has made me more mindful of what I’m eating and even though I can eat what I want now I feel so much better when I eat clean, so I choose to do so. Yes, even during the holidays! After a “cheat” day, I reset, and go back to eating clean and drink lots of water. I think the other telling thing about eating clean is that everyone says that my skin looks great! So, at the end of the day, I lost 8 pounds but more in inches because I can fit clothes that I haven’t worn in years. The best thing is that I know I can keep this up! At 63, I feel so blessed to have this level of energy and feeling the fittest I have ever been in my life! Thank you Ryan Pang and the Fitness HI gang!

Before I joined your gym, I would go to Hickam Gym every other day and work out on the machines. I really didn't get any cardio work, which worried me. I guess I felt that I didn't get a good workout. Kathy invited us to go to your gym and it sounded interesting. I was getting into a rut and I wanted to do something else and get some cardio, so I thought, why not! I had not joined another gym in town because the times of the classes were not conducive to my schedule. I am happy that I joined your gym. I feel better, drink more water, and I get a good workout in a relatively short period of time - with cardio! I must say that I am eating more healthy now and drink way more water every day (even though I actually don't like water). Thank you!

I went to Fitness HI after surgery on my left knee from a boot camp injury. Ryan Pang, the personal trainer there, worked with me to restore strength and mobility to my knee. He helped me get my knee and I back into shape! In fact, since working out at Fitness HI, I have participated and completed 2 Spartan “Super” Races.

I'm really impressed with Fitness HI. The facility is clean, the environment is welcoming, and our trainer Ryan is excellent! The minute I walk in, I feel motivated to work out and I definitely feel a difference in my body. Ryan knows how to push you to your potential, while reminding you of what he feels is safe and right for your body. The class time is perfect because it fits into my lunch break and it allows me to do what I need to do after work. I haven't found anything like this around town so I'm very happy!

I am a 44-year-old mother of three who has been in and out of gyms and on every diet under the sun. I have tried to stay active and not let my weight or health get out of control, but it has always been a challenge, especially as I have gotten older. I have been with Fitness HI for almost two years now, and I go to class four times a week, do strength training twice a week, and metabolic class twice a week. This combination of classes has been the key factor to my fitness journey this past year. I dropped a couple of jean sizes and lost close to 8% body fat over the year.

My doctors told me that my goal for 2013 should be to lose 30-40lbs so that they can take me off some of the 20+ prescription pills I've been taking since I had a heart attack 5 years ago. I took a year off from working out and when I wanted to start up again, my co-worker told me to try Fitness HI. I'm about to start month 3, I lost a total of 23lbs and around 6 inches around the waist! My doctors are happy with the lower numbers and I'm looking forward to my next visit to see if we can stop some of the medications.

My name is Paul, and I am a 66-year-old haole man who has had a stiff neck for over 30 years. I had the L-4/L-5 vertebrae fused four years ago, so my body is pretty stiff. For exercise, I like walking, easy hiking, and golf. Like most men my age, I was introduced to Ryan Pang and Fitness Hawaii by my wife, who argued that working with a personal trainer could help my flexibility and strength. While I am basically a skeptic, I agreed to give this program a try. I met with Ryan in January 2017, and he conducted an evaluation of me and asked what goals I had. My goals were simple: work at reducing the stiffness in my neck, increasing my flexibility, and slightly increasing my strength. These basic goals aimed to improve my general life as well as my golf game. Ryan explained that I could choose to sign up on a month-to-month basis, make a three-month commitment, or save some money and sign up for a year. Being the skeptic, I signed up for three months and I have been pretty consistent of going to the gym twice a week. After three months, I signed up for a year. After six months, I am impressed and happy with the results of my workouts. Ryan continues to make them challenging and supports my efforts. I am more flexible, I walk straighter, AND my golf game has improved!!! I find Ryan and the rest of the folks working out to be fun and stimulating. I strongly recommend this program.

Fantastic experience: I can honestly say I am more fit now than I’ve been in decades. I am in my 60’s and basically my main reason when I began, was that this was going to be my “last hurrah”. I see too many people my age and older stooped over while walking, having to ask other people to bend over and pick up something off the ground and having extreme difficulty getting up off the floor once down. They are stiff, have no stamina and one of their greatest fears is losing their balance and falling. I knew I was headed there fast even though I’m still happily and actively working full time. I have to say I was a bit leery about working out at a gym since I’ve already had 2 hip replacements and had been warned by doctors, not to exceed a certain range of bending. But this is just one of the benefits of having a program written by a very knowledgeable coach – he takes your physical limitations and weaknesses into account and tailors a constantly changing program based on that and what you want to achieve. (If you could see me during workouts, I think you’d agree that a 60-something year old woman commando crawling the length of the gym floor is a pretty awesome, if not humorous sight.) I’ve never hurt myself because he watches and constantly corrects my posture and moves. I groan when he increases my weights but I’m amazed that I can actually handle them. I question why I’m doing certain exercises until I realize it’s actually helping me in ways I never expected. So yes, I highly recommend you check out Fitness HI– don’t ever think it’s too late for you or that you won’t be able to handle it. There is a routine that can be tailored for you that will have you slowly but surely, noticing that YOU CAN DO THIS! Just make up your mind and get down here! And BTW, the people who work out here are the friendliest and most supportive ever!

Fantastic experience: Started working out at Fitness HI almost 1 month ago and I'm loving it. I've been to a variety of gyms in the past. 24 hour fitness, Orangetheory, crossfit gyms. Unfortunately as I got older, I noticed more injuries. I took a break from working out for about 8 months to heal and reset. Fast forward to the present day....I was looking to get back into shape but knew I needed a place that would help me get stronger and avoid injury. I'm so happy I found Fitness HI. Ryan Pang, the owner, is awesome. I'm currently enrolled in semi-private training. He targets workout to my personal goals. He also watches me attentively to make sure I'm doing the exercise correctly since I have a tendency to rush/push through exercises I suck at. I've noticed big changes in my strength and endurance since working out with him and it's only been a month. He just moved his gym to a larger space which is great. There are no large weight benches/machines or cardio equipment. He uses simple equipment like sangbags, TRX, kettlebells and medicine balls. Surprisingly, I get a much better, balanced workout with his equipment than I did at other gyms. He and the other members are extremely welcoming. The environment is casual, supportive and encouraging. Check it out. You won't be disappointed.

Fantastic experience: I am married and a mother of 3 kids. Since having 3 children, I have been in and out of various gyms, workout routines, and have been on every diet under the sun. I have tried to stay active and not let my weight/health get out of control. It has always been a challenge, especially as I have gotten older. Finding an effective workout is key especially with such a busy schedule. I have been with Fitness HI for almost 2 years now. Although I still have my own personal fitness goals that I will continue to strive for, I probably have more muscle on my body now at 44 than I've ever had. I go to class four times a week, and do strength training (weights) twice a week, and metabolic (high intensity) class twice a week. This combination of classes has been the key factor to my fitness journey this past year. Not only did I drop a couple jeans sizes, but I lost close to 8% body fat over the year.

Fantastic experience: Coach Ryan is an amazing coach .. its like the workouts are an addiction once you start you dont wanna stop lol .. the classes are like 30 mins long quick and fun .. im not big on the gym so these classes work out perfectly for me .. if you are not a gym person I suggest you check his classes out ..oh and did I mention he helps you with nutrition as well so awesome .. and last but not least he has a yummy mini protein shake bar .. He's helping me get to my goals and im loving it .. 10lbs down in 2 1/2 months yay !! GO CHECK HIM OUT BEST WORKOUT PLACE EVER !!!!!

Fantastic experience: Prior to joining Fitness HI with Ryan Pang, I had assumed that my "new normal" would be a life with daily aches and pains. I got used to taking two tablets of sodium naproxen daily, accepted getting up slowly out of bed due to plantar fasciitis, and slowly stretching muscles and loosening joints associated with my arthritic knees prior to getting up from a chair. A rheumatologist once told me that my knees were that of an 80-year old - I was 53 at the time! It has been four years since joining Fitness HI with Ryan Pang; I feel better and move around with ease. Ryan provides me with the most guidance and encouragement to challenge myself to fitness and better health. Nutrition guidance is excellent; learning to make the right choices of food (protein, fruits/vegetables, and fat) takes some getting used to, but it also means that I consciously make the right choices. Now, I notice that I no longer linger the chips and wine/beer aisles and spend more time at the fresh produce section. Fitness HI initiates fun goals such as "Drop two sizes" and "Bingo" challenges where goals are achieved using Ryan’s coaching direction. I feel better; I am healthier, and definitely more fit. Most importantly, my “numbers” are down: cholesterol, weight, and inches! Thanks Ryan!

Fantastic experience: I love FitnessHI! Ryan is extremely knowledgeable and patient. He guides you every step of the way whether you're new or a veteran of the gym. It's a place where you know you won't hurt yourself because Ryan ensures that your form, equipment weight, and exercise is appropriate for you. Ryan is also constantly learning new things. Staying up to date with new ways to train us. It's never boring in the gym because he changes things up every month. I also really enjoy the other members! We encourage and support each other and best of all, everyone's really nice. Not to mention it's always a blast to go hiking with the gym crew.
