Fantastic experience: After visiting a couple other gyms in the area, my family and I decided to stay at Plus One Defense. The atmosphere inside along with the friendly staff made us feel welcome, part of the family. We still feel that way after being members for 4 months. Each staff member bring a lot of experience and really take time to make sure we learn techniques the right way. They all have a passion for what they teach which clearly shows. They gym itself is always clean and offers several different styles of martial arts. With the ability to try many styles, it's easy to realize your favorites allowing you to focus on what you like best. The class schedule offers many options so regardless of your life/work schedule, you can find a time that fits. In summary, it was a great decision for us to join as a family. Plus One fits us like a glove. Love it here!

Fantastic experience: I love Plus One! The staff is very helpful and knowledgeable, the students are friendly, and the facilities are excellent. I've been taking the Muai Thai classes there for about a year and a half. The classes are always different so you don't get bored, and have helped me get into better shape, relieve my stress and improve my skills. It really is a very welcoming place for children and adults alike. Highest recommendation!

Fantastic experience: Plus One Defense Systems is an amazing place. I have been attending Kung-Fu Karate classes there twice a week for seven years and I have never had a doubt in my mind about leaving. As soon as you walk in the door, you are welcomed by warm faces and kind people. All of the instructors are smart, kind, and genuine people. When you are inside you feel like you are one of the family! I love it here and would recommend it to any person of any age.

Fantastic experience: Plus One Defense is a world class martial gym. I've had the pleasure to pick up Jiu-Jitsu this summer and they made me fall in love with it. Im moving this fall and I am sad I have to leave this gym.These are the reasons I'm sad to leave, first off Darin and his team are awesome they have created an environment that makes you want to keep coming back, the facility is amazing with three different matt areas, a boxing ring, a cage and a whole weight lifting area, the amount of different martial arts styles they teach is insane as well as how many different classes they offer. If you are looking for a place to train, get in shape, pickup a new activity Plus One Defense is the place to go.

Fantastic experience: I am having a fantastic time learning BJJ at Plus One. I didn't have any martial arts background, but everyone is so welcoming and helpful. Every question I've had has been quickly and thoroughly answered, by the instructors and by the experienced practitioners, who are eager to see me succeed. Classes are challenging and rewarding, and I'm constantly learning (and getting a great workout, AND having a ton of fun). The environment is very friendly and completely respectful, so even as a female newbie I don't feel intimidated or uncomfortable. The women-only class is also great opportunity, not only for the technique taught and smaller class size, but also for those who may be unsure about training with men. I look forward to every class, and I'm very glad to have joined this community!

Fantastic experience: Y'all... This gym made me fall in love with martial arts. I wanted a fun way to workout so I tried their Muay Thai Kickboxing class, but I ended up doing all their other classes as well and learned so much. After three months of training I left with the confidence of knowing how to handle myself, as a woman, in a variety of situations. I became mentally and physically strong. The owner, the employees, and just everybody there is just so kind and welcoming and warm and it felt like I became a part of a family. If you don't choose this gym you're missing out lol. Fantastic experience: I train in Florida and was vacationing in CT. The people at this gym welcomed me with open arms and gave me a spot to train when I was out of town. The level of instruction here is fantastic and such a great family atmosphere I’ll definitely be stopping back in when I come back to CT for vacation… Thank you again!

Fantastic experience: Has a great learning atmosphere with driven and kind people. There’s so many different martial arts you can do there too. I just started a month ago and have learned so much due to the instructors and people who are a higher level than me that want to help.

Fantastic experience: So many things to love about Plus One! Convenience - I can take class while my son takes class. High standards - leadership and instructors take the responsibility of training people very seriously. You really need to earn your belts and stripes by learning the form you are studying. We especially love that the children they are taught they have to exhibit personal excellence at home as well as at school in order to advance in their martial art. Most importantly, though, the leadership and instructors develop and promote community. Everyone is kind and respectful. When our son sprained his ankle, he attended class to sit on the bench and watch to prepare for his test, and Sensei Travis moved the whole class next to the bench so our son could be included and train from there.

Fantastic experience: This is one of the best martial arts schools I have been too. They offer a lot of different styles, which you can take any or all of them. Most schools are limited in either style offered or limit how many classes a student can take. Not at Plus One. You can take as many classes/styles as you want. The staff and instructors are outstanding, as are the students. Its a very welcoming environment. I highly recommend it.

Fantastic experience: Apart from being a gym, Plus one defense systems has been a second home, The community and environment this place holds is something unforgettable. I started my journey in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu about 10 months ago. During those 10 months, I’ve not only felt confident in my ability to defend myself, But I fell more in love with who I am, This sport made me super confident and happy with myself, and I owe it all to Darin and the other instructors. If you are hesitant to join a gym, I’d say give Plus one a chance. I’m sure you’ll fall in love with what this gym has to offer. I know I did.

Fantastic experience: I have been there for almost 7 years now, the staff and people there create a very welcoming environment. As a person they have helped me grow and become a better person. The staff there has been able to help me learn at my own pace, and not rushed me along the years. I have come to love the place and felt it as the people there as part of my family.

Fantastic experience: Darin runs an amazing gym and he only employs trainers of the highest caliber. I've trained beginner-level Muay Thai here with three different instructors due to my shifting work schedule. Each instructor was friendly, accommodating, highly talented, and made you feel like a part of the family. I highly recommend subscribing to Plus One's newsletter if you are interested in getting your CT firearms permits. Darin's NRA course on firearms safety is comprehensive, great value, and fun. Seats at these classes are limited, but their newsletter will give ample warning before they start reserving spots.

The academy is composed of highly trained individuals who cultivate a welcoming and inclusive place to train and learn. Fantastic experience: Love it there! The dojo is super clean. Their instructors are extremely welcoming and supportive.The owner is one of the most accomplished martial artists in the country. It is a excellent place to study multiple disciplines regardless of your skill level.

Fantastic experience: The gym itself is good. I have no complaints about anyone there or instructors. My wife really liked going there but she had an old neck injury that kept flaring up. So we had to cancel. She was doing the jujitsu course so it was in avoidable. We really like the gym and I wish I could have signed my daughter back up when she’s doing better. Fantastic experience: I was really fortunate to find Plus One Defense System.I’ve been to several different Jiu Jitsu gyms and overall this has been the most welcoming gym down from me signing up online to coming to a class to me getting on the mats. As a woman, I felt safe, included, and elevated-they also have weekend Women’s Only classes that help a lot considering how differently women move vs. men. It shows how they value building a community in all aspects. Professor Darin and Professor Marlene approach teaching Jiu Jitsu in an extremely knowledgeable and uniquely kind manner that hooked me into joining Plus One the first day. At the end of the day, it’s a great environment to learn in with such a wide selection of classes to choose from you can’t go wrong!

Fantastic experience: Wow! Amazing facility-super clean and welcoming environment. Alberto gave my son a trial private lesson and within minutes understood my sons needs giving him confidence and truly having fun with him! Darin the owner made us feel at home and offered many affordable options which include as many classes a week you’d like to take. It’s not a pay by class as with other places. This system allows for flexibility and choice. You can take multiple classes throughout multiple martial arts disciplines. Check it out-great for all ages!

Fantastic experience: Plus one defense systems is the place to train. The staff is incredible and it is very clean. The instructors are highly skilled and truly care. I started with Krav Maga and am now loving the womens jujitsu class! It's great to be in a place where you can try different forms of martial arts, classes are beneficial for the mind as well as the body. As a survivor, deciding to learn self defense was one of the best choices I have ever made. Fantastic experience: Let me begin by saying I was looking for the right gym for me for awhile. I tried out a few Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu gyms in the past and didn’t feel they provided the framework and beginning adults classes I was looking for. I have been going to Plus One Defense Systems for a month now and I cannot give this place enough praise. From the instructors to the students, everyone is there to teach you or help teach you and learn to the best of their ability. The atmosphere it provides will bring you back alone. The instructors won’t forget your name and they take the time to structure the classes to provide the proper framework for your level of knowledge no matter what stage you’re at in the art. It is extremely organized and well put together to create the perfect recipe for you to succeed. This is the gym to be at.

Fantastic experience: My two boys have been students at Plus One for about 4 years now and I couldn’t have chosen a better place for them to take martial arts. The staff treats us like family and works hard to make sure each child understands not only the curriculum, but the importance of being kind, a good friend, why it’s important to do good in and outside of school, respect, as well as many other things. My oldest has mild autism and they are very patient with him and work hard with him, as well as all children, to see that he succeeds in martial arts. Despite any struggles he may go through, they never give up on helping him succeed. They also offer a wide variety of program to adults. I highly recommend Plus One.

Fantastic experience: I have been going to Plus One Defense for about 8yrs. I joined in my 40’s with no experience and had no idea what classes to take. I just knew I wanted to try one of the martial arts. Plus One got me started in a Women’s Brazilian Jiu Jitsu class on a Saturday and I haven’t looked back since. You will be surprised by abilities you didn’t know you had and feel humbly empowered. I have met people of all ages, walks of life and professions that I would not have otherwise met, who are now my BJJ partners and personal friends. But, if BJJ isn’t your thing, they offer numerous other martial art style classes, 6 days a week, 6am-10pm to fit your needs. The school has experienced, knowledgeable and ethical instructors. You will feel welcomed, supported and encouraged because they care about you and your advancement. Most importantly, you will have fun and be part of family/community that is kind, respectful and positively infectious. Fantastic experience: My 15 year old daughter has been training at Plus One for a few years now and she loves it! She has benefited so much physically and personally from their programs. The staff is excellent and the gym is always very clean. We have had a wonderful experience there!

Fantastic experience: My experience has been with the youth classes and I highly recommend Plus One. The teachers strike a great balance between discipline and fun in class and I've been amazed at how much the kids learn and then retain from week to week. The atmosphere in the building is friendly and inviting, and there are comfortable spots to sit and watch class or get work done while you're waiting. Every teacher and staff member has been extremely knowledgeable and shown a high level of expertise in his/her craft. Definite 5 stars!

Fantastic experience: This is a great place to drop in and visit if you're visiting from out of town. Darin and his staff were very welcoming. The facility is really clean and completely comprehensive. There's a weight room, three different mat rooms, an octagon and boxing ring. So whatever form of martial arts, this is the place to train. There are two showers available at the facility, if you need to get clean right after you train. Your training partners here make great and friendly rolls, highly recommend this place!

Fantastic experience: Plus One defense, a phenomenal place. I started here over a year ago, looking for a martial arts school that had a strong emphasis on flexibility. Each and every interaction I have had is amazing. This goes for instructors as well as students. The staff here is first rate. They care about the students, are eager to share their knowledge, and go above and beyond to insure your success. From offering an amazing array of classes covering a variety of martial arts, to providing a schedule that can meet almost everyone’s needs. The combination of multiple disciplines, a fully equipped fitness center, and first rate instruction makes the value of this school nearly unbeatable. Although in life you often find that there is always that one person with whom you can’t get along, I have yet to find that person here. Darin and his staff at Plus One may just be a magnet for people that are warm and caring, or perhaps they foster an atmosphere that creates that camaraderie. Although my cohorts often make fun of the line from Karate kid that “Karate is for whole life”, this spirit pervades the school at Plus One. Martial Arts and the lesson learned at this school, as well as the attitude fostered, most certainly can and should infuse your lifestyle choices. In short, you can’t go wrong if you choose Plus One as your place of Martial Arts instruction. I highly recommend it, and believe that it can fundamentally change your perspective on life.

Fantastic experience: I am brand new to martial arts, and I have found a incredible place to begin my journey. The staff, the instructors, and community are so welcoming. Especially the amazing people who attend the Plus One Defense System's capoeira class. It my favorite by far. Learning something brand new means there is a period where you are constantly making a fool of yourself. However, you have never met an instructor and group of people who make you feel so good about being so bad. Baby steps! :)

Fantastic experience: This is only my 3rd week of kick boxing, something I’ve never done before and I’m already so fond of this place. All the Instructors are there to help you perform to the best of your abilities...at your own pace. Everyone I have met, Including the students, have been very welcoming and that is pretty awesome. I have found my passion and it feels great! I already feel the difference in my energy and body over all! I plan to keep attending four times a week!

Fantastic experience: Coming from someone who has been practicing martial arts for 8 years, this school is second to none. I’ve been a student at Plus One for over 6 years now. I still to this day regret not signing up sooner. Since becoming a member of the Plus One family I’ve had nothing but amazing experiences and opportunities. It’s become my second home. If you’re interested in training come check this place out. Plus One offers a variety of authentic martial arts styles to choose from. I believe the number is 9 and that doesn’t include the new Christian Yoga class that was recently added. Even if you’re not sure on what style you’d like to try, do not hesitate to come in and talk to some of the instructors . They can answer any questions you may have about the various arts and if you’d like, set up an intro class just for you. With all the styles that are offered I’m sure you’ll be able to find an art that fits you. Not many academies can say that. Fantastic experience: My boyfriend and I were looking to learn something new together, so we joined Plus One a few months ago. It has definitely been one of the best decisions I've made in a long time!! We have so much fun each class, and I walk away every day feeling accomplished and more confident. We came for Muay Thai, which is a lot of fun and a great cardio workout, but we've really gotten into Krav Maga as well, and it's incredibly useful. We recently did groundwork in a Krav class, so now I'm interested in trying jiujitsu too... If you're looking for a gym where you can learn to master a new art - this is the place for you. The instructors are very knowledgeable and always have great answers for our questions on form and body mechanics. If you're looking to have structured exercise classes and get fit, this is also the place for you. I tried a few cardio kickboxing classes before coming here, and I felt like there was little motivating me to go to those classes day after day. Plus One teaches technique, so you might not get discouraged if the needle on your scale hadn't moved, because you've noticed that your right hook is getting stronger and your kicks are higher! I've actually been motivated to eat healthier, not to "diet", but so I can have more energy for class! For me, that's a much healthier mindset.

Fantastic experience: I've been participating in martial arts for 15 years and have attended 5 or 6 different schools in this time, but no school/gym has ever compared to the facility at Plus One. The facility itself is spectacular with top of the line equipment, an mma cage, boxing ring, full gym and lots and lots of clean matt space. This is the only gym I've been to that offers MANY different styles of martial arts with instructors specifically trained in each so there is literally something for everyone and the knowledge of the instructors is beyond anything I've ever experienced. The welcoming environment is one you cannot pass up, this gym is THE premiere gym in the state, definitely check it out if you are interested in any type of martial arts.

Fantastic experience: What a wonderful place to train! Darin and the rest of the Plus One team are so encouraging and inviting, you really feel like a part of a big martial arts family. I haven't always been consistently able to train but they have always worked with me so I can continue my training. In addition to the welcoming environment, the facility is top notch and well maintained/cleaned. Fantastic experience: Outstanding martial arts studio, definitely a cut above the others we've tried in the area for my son. Most importantly, I never felt soaked for fees like at a "belt mill" churning out 9 year old balsa-busting black belts after passing dozens of $60 "tests". This place is about learning the art. The instructors are caring, knowledgeable and command respect from the students. Many different styles to choose from. Great facilities. Highly recommend!

Fantastic experience: Normally I am nervous around new people but walking into my first class I was greeted with a lot of smiles and positive energy, I didn't feel new at all. Everyone is so welcoming and incredibly helpful! The gym is beautiful and clean. The owner is amazing, he truly cares for everyone, you can tell right away this isn't just a job for him, this is his life, he genuinely cares. I absolutely adore this place, I definitely recommend joining!!

It honestly has everything you need, the equipment there is top of the line and the instructors deliver great classes night after night. Before Plus One I tried several other places both in Connecticut and mass but none could offer the schedule flexibility and types of styles that Plus One offers. Fantastic experience: As a mother of 4, I needed to find a school with teachers that offered structure and discipline but were also understanding and patient towards kids in particular. I was drawn to Plus One Defense Systems not only based on the incredible reviews they have but also by talking to other moms who have their children training in other places I thought I was interested in! I am so relieved I didnt sign up anywhere else. This dojo is not only one of the cleanest I've been to (which is super important to me as a mom) but is also so welcoming that my family feels comfortable training here. I didn't have ANY interest in learning martial arts at first, but there's such a variety of styles and the teachers are so caring that I just had to give it a shot and I'm so happy I did! I feel more confident than ever, I have more energy and have even made great friends! The prices are awesome as well in comparison to other schools, specially when you sign up for the two year contract. My kids are happy here which makes their mama happier! I can not recomend this school enough to women, parents and just about anyone who has ever had the slightest curiosity in martial arts!! Pay the school a visit for yourself and I promise you will NOT regret it!!!
