Flagstaff Family YMCA: Opinions
Fantastic experience: So far, this place has served me physical needs. Nice array of machines and free weights
Fantastic experience: Nice staff. Clean facilities
Fantastic experience: Jr Suns program is great for teaching fundamentals of basketball.
Positive experience: Extremely friendly staff and very clean. I used the gym and locker room for a shower. Very much appreciate the treadmills (dreadmill) facing outside. No points lost for no pool considering there’s the aquaplex and the college pool you can use for a guest pass near by. But I was really bummed out there there was no real squat rack or smith machine. Just a basic rack with less saftey features so not conducive to really pushing yourself or making things fit to your unique height.
Positive experience: Really enjoy coming here because the rock wall is pretty awesome and the staff has always been friendly to us, but I do wish they had a pool like the one in Prescott.
Positive experience: Great places I'm just irritated that they have kept their shorter hours for so long
Fantastic experience: 15$ for a shower keeps the rif raft out.
Fantastic experience: While the gym could have more equipment, and the time it takes to repair broken equipment is a little long, this is still my favorite gym facility in Flagstaff. The staff are friendly, the community and youth programs are great, and you'll always feel like they are making the most of the money they are receiving. I'd happily continue supporting this Y over all the other facilities I've been to.
Positive experience: Somewhat unprofessional. Weird hours. Trainers/classes monopolize the best slaces/equipment even when "open." I would not recommend joining unless you have kids to utilize daycare. Location and slow-paced vibe are the best qualities.
Positive experience: Decent place to work out. I came to the YMCA, because it's closer to where I work and live and because it was a little cheaper than my other gym. I was going to cancel, because I missed having a good shower and steam room, but decided to stay for the convenience and access to the nice basketball court. positives +fairly extensive workout area. Good cardio equipment. Not the best selection of weights and machines, but plenty for me. Weight machines they do have are high end and fairly new. +cheaper than Summit/FAC - not that much cheaper, but the extra $5 I saved was appreciated. I think getting a nice shower/hot tub with clean towels may be worth $5 to me personally, but if you dont use those amenities, it may save you money) +basketball - great full basketball court. basketballs to borrow. +climbing equipment, childcare, etc - it has a lot of options. I just havent tried as I'm only in for cardio, weights, and basketball +rarely crowded. +fairly good hours. Other than Sunday evenings, there isn't a time I really can't go in. If you want to go in Sunday evenings, I recommend FAC. negatives -staff is hit-or-miss. Some really friendly staff. Some that are annoyed to get off their phones to answer questions. Summit and FAC definitely have more friendly and helpful staff if that is important to you. -no towels. You have to bring and launder your own if you shower there -can be a little dingy/dirty at times or at least look that way -lockerroom is tiny, dirty, and lacking in amenities. Showers are cramped. No steam room, sauna, or hot tub. If more than two people are in the locker room at one time, you will bump into others and feel like a sardine. -bad wifi and entertainment. I don't need TVs on all the equipment nor good wifi to enjoy myself while working out, but if you do, it's worth noting. Hard to even stream Netflix on their wifi and the TVs built into the cardio machines have only a handful of fuzzy stations. Wifi is plenty good for music and podcast streaming. Wifi is a pain to join and makes you sign away your first born and then redirects you to a commercial advertisement.
Fantastic experience: Nice gym. Awesome staff.
Positive experience: I have been a member of the Flagstaff YMCA since 2013. This branch has a serious staffing issue. It is not uncommon to show up and the doors are locked during hours that it is supposed to be open (usually in the mornings) but has happened at night as well. This is very disappointing as I do like this gym, but if this keeps happening I will go find a more reliable one. Disappointing.
Fantastic experience: This is a nice facility. The staff is friendly and helpful. What I like the best is that they don't play any music on the sound system. If you wanna jam, you can rock your headphones, but if you don't, you're not subjected to whatever's on the radio.
Fantastic experience: Very refreshing good clean atmosphere & excellent staff w/ various workout stations to choose from...
Fantastic experience: The one of the best assets of the flag YMCA, is there management of the MEMs swimming pool on fouth street. It is Olympic size and great for lap swimming, perfect temp, very clean and well lite. VERY affordable to non member. Possibly the BEST kept secrets for swimming fitness in Flagstaff. Great work YMCA, please keep up the great work.
Fantastic experience: It's fun to be at the
Fantastic experience: Very friendly staff, and very reasonable rates for date night baby sitting for both members and non-members.
