CrossFit Norwalk: Opinions

Fantastic experience: It's really a lot more than a gym. It's support, motivation, expertise and community.

Fantastic experience: I've been going to Crossfit Norwalk (CFN) for a little over a month. After trying several different gyms and workouts, Crossfit is the first time that I'm excited to work out. Each day offers either new movements/techniques or a change in the combination of moves during a WOD. CFN is a particularly special gym (Box). All of the coaches are sincerely personable, down-to-earth, and supportive, and these traits have created a community of similar values. As a person who was once in great shape, and now in embarrassingly terrible shape (but improving thanks to CFN), having this support system makes the journey back to health much easier. I would recommend CFN to anyone (and believe 5-stars to be too few).

Fantastic experience: I miss this place. Very cool environment. The trainers are awesome and focus on safe form. The area outside the gym is a great neighborhood to run in. Everyone also keeps their stats on Wodify which makes it more competitive. I highly recommend this gym.

Fantastic experience: The best CrossFit gym in Norwalk. Mike and Susan along with their wonderful staff make CFN a place you look forward to going to. The staff and members are welcoming and friendly and the gym is spacious and we'll equiped. If you've ever been thinking about trying out CrossFit stop on by. They can scale it for any age or fitness level.

Fantastic experience: I came here after years of going to my local gym. I stuck to the treadmill due to fear and anxiety of looking stupid with weights. I took a chance on crossfit beginners program and it has changed everything. Not only am I getting closer to my weight goal but I'm stronger and happier. Everyone there is so nice and encouraging. My favorite part is that we are all doing the same workout. I might be at 35 pounds and the person next to me at 125 but we are both grinding it out sweating and catching our breath together. We are a team. Sometime you get a "you can do it" from across the room and u keep going. I'm proud to be apart of Crossfit Norwalk. Come try it out!!

Fantastic experience: I can't say enough positive things about Norwalk Cross Fit. My friend asked me to join her in a 6 week fitness challenge & it turned out to be one of the best decisions that I have made. After the challenge we decided to keep going, it was a no-brainer. I have lost weight, gained muscle which has changed my body in a way that no other program has & I all around feel better. The owner, Susan is not only a amazing trainer but she is a wonderful person. She honestly cares about all her students & she is a pleasure to work with. The trainers pay close attention to form & explain all the workouts in detail. They make you strive to better yourself in the gym but never push your limits to where you might be uncomfortable. Going to class doesn't feel like a chore I look forward to it. The work outs can be intense but they are fun & move quickly. I recommend NCF to anyone, whether you are in shape, need to get into shape young or old this is a great place to get it done!

Fantastic experience: Have attended various CF's over the years, but recently returned to CF Norwalk. I had forgotten what an awesome place it is. Great staff that take care to explain the movements in detail. Great work outs that can be scaled to any ability. Thank You CFN.

Fantastic experience: I had neglected my fitness for far too long and decided it was time to get serious again about my health. I went to Crossfit Norwalk a year and a half ago with the intent of losing some weight. What I found was a community of members who would become supporters and close friends. I found coaches who are deeply knowledgeable and caring. And I found an owner who is committed to building and maintaining one of the best facilities anywhere. If there were more than 5 stars, I would click on all of them. I can't thank the members, coaches and owner enough for getting me back in my fitness path that I haven't been on since college.

Fantastic experience: Today I turn 52 years old. I have become proud of my age not only from the loving support of my family and friends but also from how Crossfit Norwalk changed the way I feel. I have been a member for over 3 years brought there by a friend and urged on by my husband. I was never an "athlete". I hated to run. I hated to sweat. I hated the idea of getting injured due to the horrible inconvenience it would cause me. I spent half of my adult life making sure those around me where well taken cared for without really thinking about my own personal health and well being. That's the back story. Fast forward to today. Walking into Crossfit Norwalk 3 years ago was a challenging moment but under the watchful eye of Coach Mike Sabato and owner Susan Friedman, I was able to lift, squat, run, push, climb, jump, toss, and swing like I COULD NEVER do before. Granted, it didn't happen in a month, 6 months, or even a year. With the support of my fellow members young-old, male-female, married- single, I am performing better now than when I was 49. I can't think of many things I do better now than when I was younger. With phenomenal supervision and teaching by Mike Sabato along with personal dedication, fortitude and knowing one's limits, positive change happens. Crossfit Norwalk is not only a space to sweat or lift heavy stuff, it is a community which binds itself together with individual effort in a common experience. No workout feels the same for each person but that doesn't matter. You are there for someone having a great day and you are there for someone who is not quite feeling it. Crossfit Norwalk and it's members and coaches are a part of my daily routine. I owe them a thank you for how I feel at the tender age of 52.

Fantastic experience: My Crossfit Story I am 59 years old, in good health, but, until recently, 44 pounds overweight. The only sports I have ever enjoyed, skiing and cycling, had become much less pleasant to me than they once were. I occasionally, over the last 20 years, have gotten to my optimal weight (as defined by the physician’s chart) on a couple of occasions, simply by virtue of eating less, but, eventually, my carb addiction reared up again. I’ve never enjoyed exercise, starting with my ineptitude, and resultant bullying, in P.E. class as a kid. I have no positive associations with fitness, and have never stuck with a fitness program for more than a week. Jason Lee got talking to me about CrossFit once, when I commented on his physique. I had heard of it, and wrote it off as a muscle-head place where I would feel horribly out of place, and would have sand kicked in my face to top it off. He told me it was not like that, and I agreed to give it a try. I was shocked to find that he was right! While most of the athletes there were pretty buffed, unlike me, who looked like I was pregnant, some actually were pregnant. Some were fat. Some were old, at least in my decade. And some were kids. The vibe was welcoming, and even the guys who looked like Adonis made it a point of saying, “Hi!” and letting me know that there was respect for me even showing up. The coaches had a structured way of making the exercises easier for a rookie, and in a way that did not make me feel inferior...buy simply a beginner. I came to two workouts in my first week, found that I was not being killed, and enjoyed the vibe. I liked that each session is a strongly directed class, with plenty of personal attention given. It the past, classes I have tried in other places were huge, with no individualization, and, as a beginner, since I would not have the skills or the stamina, it would just make me feel mortified to be out there. Here, I was given instruction on the skills, and directed to alternative movements appropriate to my level, as needed. I decided to pay up, being grateful that there is no effort to enroll the athlete in an annual contract. It’s not that kind of operation. As I kept going, I noticed that these workouts were strenuous enough that I was starting to get some of the good feelings that I’d read about people experiencing, which I had never experienced before. I kept coming back. After a couple of months of “trying” to go twice a week, which really meant around 1.2 times / week, I noticed that each time was like starting from scratch again. I set a goal for one month to go three times per week, to get my weight to a certain number, to be able to do a single pull up by the end of the month (I had NEVER been able to do one), and, to start controlling my eating, simply by moving it into consciousness by keeping a food log, on the advice of one of the coaches at CrossFit. I already know what to eat, both as a doctor, and as a former WeightWatchers(tm) member, but knowing and doing are different. WeightWatchers taught me the value of keeping a log, but, somehow, I forgot. It was good to be reminded. I met all of those goals three weeks into the month, and am now on my next set. I’ve lost about half of the weight that needed to go, and from here, the final goal is in sight. I am much stronger than I was, I look different, my clothes are all falling off of me, and, above all, when I am on an off day from the gym, I wish I was there. NOTHING LIKE THIS HAS EVER HAPPENED TO ME BEFORE. In fact, for a week, I’ve been sick, and did not go. Today will be my first day back, and I can’t wait!

Fantastic experience: I have been a member of the CrossFit Norwalk community for close to five years now. I say community rather than gym because this is exactly what this place is, a community. From the time I walked into the front doors (out of shape, lacking energy and just overall down in confidence) I knew that I had found the right environment for me to join and pursue a life of fitness in that I had just assumed was a thing of the past for me. Coming from a strong military background which focused heavily on fitness and endurance, I was nervous that I would never again be able to see results that I had in my 20's. Little did I know that under the constant supervision and guidance of Mike Sabato, Susan, Gilbert, Cary, Amanda and now Dan that I would not only get back to that same level of fitness, but also surpass it, despite being several years older. What also amazes me was how willing and able the staff has been to work with me in pursuing alternate methods to workout and remain a part of this unique and amazing community in spite of me having work related injuries which at times preclude me from participating in all the workouts "RX". Numerous times I have heard the term that the workouts are infinitely scalable and that there is always another way to get your fitness on, and anytime this arises, the staff would take a moment to figure out an alternate movement for me to perform in a safe and structured manner. CrossFit Norwalk is truly the best box that I have ever attended and I would not hesitate to recommend it to anyone who was considering starting a journey into a healthier life style. From the staff, the events, the facility, it's equipment and most importantly its amazing members, this is a place for people of all walks of life and levels of fitness to come, make friends and get your fitness on.

Fantastic experience: I am a veteran at Crossfit Norwalk and I have been a member with Crossfit Norwalk since October 2011, I met the head trainer Mike Sabato in a yoga class his down to earth, friendly and non-soliciting nature made me give CFN a try and instantly I became hooked now going 5 years strong, the staff are professionals and instruct proper movement, take time to work on mobility and stretch in each class. In the workout or WOD there is no pushing you out of your own comfort zone and ability, it's all about nailing the movement first with lighter weight and progressing into heavier weight with gained knowledge and experience. Crossfit is a very intimidating exercise to new comers and in my eyes with the egoless and welcoming feel at Crossfit Norwalk it's my first choice to recommend to anyone out of all the other boxes locally in Norwalk even Fairfield county regardless if your the stay at home mom or on the go professional CFN is full of different faces and we all share the same passion.

Fantastic experience: Joining Crossfit Norwalk was life changing for me. I was pre-diabetic, taking life long cholesterol medications and over weight. Currently, I am in the best shape of my life. My physician stopped all my medications and I am no longer pre-diabetic. The owner and coaches at CFN are top notch. My wife has also become a member and my two children love to take the Crossfit Kids classes. Thank you for everything you have done for both me and my family CFN!
