Green Lake Strength & Conditioning: Opinions

Fantastic experience: I came to this gym before the pandemic when it was Crossfit. I Injured my shoulder once during a workout (completely my fault went to PT and am cleared now) I thought I could lift the same amount I had been after having a taken a break for 3 weeks. Well, this past summer I had a few instances when I felt really weak. I could not throw a ball without pain, could not walk my dog, and sadly could not sleep on my shoulder. Well, I tried GLS and the changes have been so positive. The workouts just fly, all the coaches are awesome in their own way, my workouts have been adjusted so I can slowly make my shoulder stronger, and I've been able to finally sleep on my shoulder without waking up in pain. I'm feeling much more functional and strong.
Fantastic experience: Aside from all benefits of regular exercise, GLSC fills my need for a “third place”, an idea in sociology that everyone needs somewhere that’s not work, not home, where low-stakes chit-chat is available and makes you recognize you are a part of a larger community. Coach Zeyab’s question of the day like “is a hotdog is a sandwich” might be meaningless on the surface, but hearing everyone’s opinion makes GLSC feel like a place where I’m among friends.
Fantastic experience: This place is great! Really knowledgeable trainers, very helpful for scaling and modifying around issues and injuries; flexible group class scheduling; great community.
Fantastic experience: Love this place. Joined about 2 month ago and they really have a great way of training for all skill levels. There are really fit people here and newbies as well.
Fantastic experience: This gym has changed my life!! I discovered GLSC 3 months ago while looking for a way to build more strength. I'm an older woman so hadn't thought I could handle a crossfit program but I noticed the classes as I walked past and they looked diverse and inclusive. They are. It took a while to learn the moves but the supportive coaches and flexible program always enables me to find an entry level. Tip:take the boot camp. To get started.... It really build confidence and let's you get to know the team before your first real class.
Fantastic experience: I love this gym and cannot recommend it enough! If you’re new to weightlifting/HIIT-type workouts, consider taking the On-Ramp course. You learn exercises at a slow pace and in a small group. I also loved the course because it helps build community in the gym – you can attend classes already knowing someone! Love it. They are all about doing the best you can, whatever that may look like for each person. They always show modifications for moves. The coaches encouryou to do what feels good and to do each movement accurately and safely. I also appreciate the tips and props you get during the workouts :) The most meaningful thing for me is how warm, welcoming, and inclusive the owners and coaches are. As a plus-size woman, at previous gyms I was treated disrespectfully, so I was nervous to try this one... and I’m thrilled I did. They focus on building community and ensuring everyone feels like they belong there, no matter where they are in their journey <3 Shout out to coaches Mikela & Zeyab, thank you for being awesome!
Fantastic experience: I just completed 3 sessions of private instruction for ramp up to join group classes. I just wanted to let it be known that the trainer, Mikaela, did a wonderful job showing me the necessary movements, explaining terminology, correcting bad habits with form, and running me through a short AMRAMP workout to demonstrate pacing. I’d like to complement her professionalism, knowledge, and ability to correct or/and show alternative options. She has set the bar, no pun intended, high and I’m excited to join classes soon.
Fantastic experience: I cannot rate GLSC highly enough. All the trainers are amazing, shout out especially to Coach Patti and Coach Zeyab. The owners are passionate and thoughtful. The facilities are perfect even during these tough times. I was a former competitive athlete out of shape and feeling hopeless post surgery and recovery. GLSC was so welcoming and met me where I was. I'm back into fighting form and grateful for GLSC. I would recommend this gym for everyone, those struggling to get back into shape and those who are ready for new athletic goals. Bravo to GLSC. I wouldn't change a thing! -- ok maybe I'd put in boxing bags
Fantastic experience: I've been going to GLSC for about 2 months and love it! I started with the on-ramp course which was great for someone with limited lifting experience like me. The workouts are fun, challenging, and the coaches do a great job of breaking down movements to emphasize proper form, which I really appreciate. All the staff and members create a very friendly and welcoming gym environment!
Fantastic experience: I cannot say enough good things about the Green Lake Strength and Conditioning gym! While providing a welcoming and supportive environment, Green Lake Strength and Conditioning is committed to excellence in their programming and maintaining well trained professional coaches. Coaches engage with members throughout classes offering encouragement, tips and help as needed. Aspects about this gym that most resonate for me, are the feelings of friendship and community, variety in the programming, and workouts that are both very challenging and fun!
Fantastic experience: This gym provides a great workout community and has amazing coaches that walk you through every step of your workout I recommend this gym to anyone who is looking to stay active in a fun and welcoming setting.
Fantastic experience: I love the workouts! These have become very important to me over the years. When during COVID my job moved to being stuck of hour after hour in front of the computer, doing the workouts literally saved my sanity. These are so good for my physical AND mental health!
Fantastic experience: This gym has a fantastic philosophy that centers health & wellbeing. This is a reformed Crossfit gym that dials back the aggression to match the demographics of the neighborhood (30's and up) so you don't blow your back out or pull a hernia every Tuesday. The instructors are emotionally intelligent and will push at a pace that's in line with what the client will tolerate. Clean, professional, inclusive.
Fantastic experience: I have been to many different class-based gyms and this is by far the best one I've been to for HIIT-based workouts! The environment and instructors are great and very welcoming.
Fantastic experience: Been going to GLSC for about 2 months now --- and it has been AWESOME! As someone with limited previous lifting experience, I have found all of the trainers to be extremely helpful and willing to take the time to work with me to get the form/technique down before adding more weight. Classes cover a lot of different types of workouts and are pretty challenging (although the trainers always provide ways to lower/increase the difficulty which is great))!
Fantastic experience: GLSC is amazing. I knew nothing about weight lifting and the coaches really took the time to explain and provide guidance. Highly recommend!!
Fantastic experience: It's an amazing place to exercise, all coaches are knowledgeable and help you in improving form. Its also nice to have a combination of strength training, high intensity training and also bulletproofing, with a bonus of having a great community! Would recommend.
Fantastic experience: I've been going to GLSC for about two months now and love it. It has given me another form of exercise other than my regular distance running. I've noticed some serious increases in strength and have lost 8 pounds. But the best part of all is the community. This isn't a grunt and scream gym. It's a place where normal people go to improve their physical well being under expert instruction. Tuesday mornings are especially fun because Tracy coaches then and has an incredibly goofy, yet genuine way of motivating you to go harder. Also, they love dogs which, you know, is the true sign of a good business.
Fantastic experience: I am so glad I joined GLSC! For beginners, they do a great on-ramp class. The on-ramp is well thought out and teaches you the basics you need to succeed. Each movement is always demonstrated during class before you do it. The gym is clean and they keep the roll up doors open during class to have lots of air flow which is great. All the coaches are friendly and encouraging, and they do a great job of making new members feel included, capable, and confident! If you’re on the fence about getting into strength training, I highly encourage you to try the on ramp and a few classes to get a feel for it, you’ll love GLSC!
Fantastic experience: Nate, the owner, was a kind and friendly face that made joining the gym an easy choice at our intro meeting. My favorite coach is Jean Anne on Wednesday’s, make sure to check her out!
Fantastic experience: Love this gym! The coaches know how to take care of you- keep an eye on your for form- and genuinely care. The community is friendly and the workout is awesome.
Fantastic experience: Green Lake Strength & Conditioning is a local community oriented gym. It's a supportive environment for everyone from new gym goers to dedicated athletes.
Fantastic experience: I have really enjoyed going to this gym. The space is well-maintained, clean, and the multiple garage doors provide a nice breeze. They specialize in Crossfit-like workouts in 1-hour classes. The instructors of these classes do a nice job to emphasize technique, safety, and functional strength over pulling huge weights. I'm not an expert or super-duper fit, but I felt welcome there. It's a little bit expensive when compared to a do-it-yourself gym, but I found it to be worth it.
Fantastic experience: I've been a part of this gym for 3 months, and it's been wonderful. I was working out at home with only dumbbells, no physical training experience, and was stumbling my way through trying to learn form. I learned of this Gym and signed up for their Onramp course. Their Onramp class was valuable enough honestly to take it on it's own without joining the gym. The form corrections, the workout knowledge, and the building blocks of lifting were things I wish I knew when I started working out alone in my livingroom 9 months ago. The classes afterwards are equally great. Every time I work out I get form advice and feel it super hard the next day. Everyone is friendly, LGBT friendly, and there's even dogs who get to hang out (safely, to the side) as we work out. The amount of strength I'm able to gain just from correcting my poor form is outstanding. There's still a lot more to go, but I've grown so much since working here and I thank the coaches of GLSC for doing a great job. Thanks Coach Z & team for being awesome!
Fantastic experience: The gym is amazing!!! We moved into the neighborhood months ago in need of a new gym. The ramp-up course was not intimidating and beginner-friendly. Every staff member is so nice and encouraging, and I’m happy to say I have my fitness community now :)
Fantastic experience: I’ve joined (and then not gone to) many gyms in my adult life. Greenlake strength and conditioning has been my favorite by far and my T/F classes are a weekly highlight! I was nervous to join a strength and conditioning gym, having always been a simple elliptical gal. Not only have my nerves vanished, I look forward to going to classes every week! The coaches are incredibly patient and supportive. GLSC feels more like a community of strength than a gym. I greatly appreciate Greenlake’s commitment to making our community stronger (figuratively and literally).
Fantastic experience: Love this gym! The coaches are great and actually coach you to help avoid injury (and modify when you've injured yourself doing other things). It's a nice open space and the other members are welcoming, even to beginners. The workouts are hard, but approachable. They've also started up a kids program and my 7-year-old loves the classes. He's learning good form on moves that help strengthen him for the other sports he does. They play a lot of games and have a good time.
Fantastic experience: For the past 2 years since living in the Roosevelt/Greenlake area, I kept walking pass GLSC and wanting to join but nervous and worried I wouldn't be up to par with the members there, especially since my physical health has drop due to the pandemic. I finally decided overlook my imposter syndrome and just make an appointment with Nate (co-owner) to potentially join and I am so glad I did! Nate did an amazing job telling me about GLSC, how they train, and how they map out their workouts (that was impressive to me) Also, any intimidation can be left at the door here. Their coaches are extremely welcoming and very knowledgeable of the work they do. They do an amazing job guiding you and making sure you are doing the workout as efficient as possible. My favorite part of GLSC the emphasis of doing the workout well and not worry so much about competition with others because at times I would feel defeated when I was last in the ranking in other gyms like this one. This is a great facility, with a great team, and great members.
Fantastic experience: Green Lake Strength & Fitness is the best gym I've ever belonged to with great classes and instructors and an outstanding owner and community. Nate, the owner, was the first person I met as I was moving into the apartment next to the gym at the beginning of the pandemic during the lockdown. He welcomed me, let me park my moving truck in the parking lot, and encouraged me to join when the gym reopened. Months later, I did and it was one of the highlights of my two years in Green Lake. They navigated the pandemic well with Nate asking me directly how I felt about masks and class sizes over time and their policies always striking a balance that I felt comfortable with. The classes focus on functional fitness and are accessible without pushing it into unsafe territory like some CrossFit gyms (GSFC disaffiliated). The instructors and community are great and I plan on continuing to come back even though I moved a few miles away.
Fantastic experience: I've been a member since the start of the year, and I've just had the best time at GLSC. I started out with their intro bootcamp to see how I'd feel about a new style of workout and transitioned into a 3 times a week membership. The instructors are all just so awesome (no judgement) and I love what a supportive community it is. Highly recommend folks check it out!
Fantastic experience: Such a lovely gym with super friendly, knowledgable and patient coaches. I joined back in the fall in order to get myself back in action and to feel confident with my lifting form. I work a rather sedentary job, and after two years of staying home, I was starting to feel it. The orientation sessions were fabulous, reasonably paced and thorough. I ended up signing up for the 3 classes/wk package for many months afterward, mostly attending classes after work that were led by both Coach Zeyab and Coach Allie, both of whom I adore and admire. The overall community is great, too, everyone's really encouraging and supportive of one another's fitness journey. I really appreciate the care taken regarding COVID-safety measures, it helps me feel safe and respected while getting back into a more regular fitness schedule.
Fantastic experience: I completed the GLSC on-ramp program and I loved it with all my heart! My goal was to learn a little bit about the right technique because I started my weight loss journey at the beginning of the pandemic at home with an online fitness app and I had no idea if my technique was good or not. And in this terms the on-ramp program was absolutely perfect! The GLSC training team was very professional, patient, kind and supportive. If you’ve ever experienced a gym anxiety as a newbie, on-ramp was created for you! GLSC is one of the most beautiful gyms in Seattle, a safe and encouraging place! It was a pleasure to learn from your guys. Keep up the good work! Polly
Fantastic experience: Great community here! I cannot recommend the On Ramp courses enough if you're just starting out - those really helped give me a baseline of all the exercises and movements. Makes going into a regular rhythm of classes much less intimidating. Everybody is super nice and the workouts are always challenging and never boring. Couldn't be happier about joining.
Fantastic experience: I joined this gym in late 2021 while the covid restrictions were still in place; GLSC did an incredible job of making it a safe place to work out (as they have 3 garage doors that open so airflow is great). The workouts have been varied, fun, and focused on form rather than competition. The coaches are all incredible, and their feedback has helped me improve greatly and weightlift with confidence (even as a 5'3" female) :) Thank you GLSC!
Fantastic experience: Terrific locally owned fitness center. Owners Nate and Kate walk the talk, routinely in classes alongside members. They’ve revamped the facility and the curriculum to encourage newbies and eliminate training injuries. The excellent instructors lead small groups with an hour of weights, light gymnastics, mobility and cardio. Wonderful supportive community and easygoing vibe. I can’t recommend it enough.
Fantastic experience: Great experience with amazing coaches and members!! I can tell that the WODs are planned carefully. I will really miss this place :(
Fantastic experience: One of the best gyms I’ve ever been to. It truly is a kind, healthy community. The workouts are efficient, fun, and flexible.
Fantastic experience: I've been looking for a class based gym in my area and decided to check out the GLS&C by taking the on-ramp course. It was a great way to get a feel of the space, the type of workouts, and the trainers. Workouts are fun & engaging with a strong focus on form & modifications as needed. This is a diverse, inclusive, & welcoming spot for individuals at all skill levels which keeps me here. Highly Recommend!
Fantastic experience: My wife and I have really enjoyed trading at Green Lake Strength and Conditioning. We find the coaches knowledgeable and helpful and the other folks at the gym have been super friendly. We also really like the programming approach/ style that actively helps prevent injuries. Keep up the great work GLSC!
Fantastic experience: Green Lake Strength & Conditioning is an excellent gym. The classes and coaches are great. They were a big part of my attempt at getting back to a fitness routine and I'll highly recommend them anyone.
Fantastic experience: I have recently moved back to Seattle and I was looking for a CrossFit gym (been doing CrossFit for about 3.5 years now). GLSC combines all of my favorite aspects of CrossFit without the intensely competitive side of it. They emphasize proper movement by giving athletes the space to slow down and take the time to get movement/form right (the coaches really do an excellent job of monitoring and correcting everyone's form in the class) while simultaneously keeping the intensity of the workouts high so you walk away having just completed an excellent workout. They emphasize longevity and quality of life, equity for all ability levels, and overall just an wonderfully inclusive fitness community. All these things spoke to me when I first met Nate (Co-Owner of the gym) but now that I am a month into my membership I have seen them first hand from the coaches and my fellow athletes and I can say with confidence that I am very impressed and happy with GLSC. I highly recommend joining this gym if that is what you are seeking too.
Fantastic experience: I’m so glad I started my fitness journey with GLSC. After many years of going to big gyms and not loving it, I wanted to join a smaller gym where I work more closely with trainers and other members in a smaller, community-based setting. I filled out an online inquiry and Nate quickly got back to me and set me up for an orientation with one of the trainers to learn more about my fitness goals and my skills. He assigned Patti to work with me for on ramp 1-on-1. Patti was so great and encouraging that after working with her, I felt I was ready to join classes. All the trainers at GLSC are fantastic. Everyone here is so nice and patient, especially with a newbie like me. They inspire me to learn and challenge myself to get stronger. I feel like I’m part of a community here. I appreciate the measures they take to ensure that their gym is a safe and healthy space for everyone who wants to come and work on their skills, no matter which level they’re at.
Fantastic experience: I moved to Seattle recently and a friend referred green lake strength and conditioning to me. I’m blown away by the staff, the members and the gym. I was never able to stick with any workout program until I found GLSC. I enjoy it so much that I picked my new apartment based on distance from the gym. I really love how the community and coaches motivate me to stay regular and constantly improve. Would highly recommend for anyone who wants an open and supportive gym environment to really challenge yourself and grown in!
Fantastic experience: I absolutely love this gym. We’re relatively new to the area and new to this type of training but were introduced by our friend and neighbor, who has been a member for years. We were sold after the first class, and seven months later, we’ve never felt so healthy, physically and emotionally. The training is amazing. The workouts are fun and challenging but accommodating to all fitness levels with a true focus on form and safety so that we can do this for years. The community is friendly and welcoming, and it didn’t take long before they felt like friends. We’re so grateful to Kate and Nate for the work they do! *Great and safe during Covid with the ability to transform to an outdoor gym with small classes
Fantastic experience: I'm a relatively new member, and I'm really pleased with this gym. As someone who is fairly new to a lot of the different lifts we do here, I've gotten great guidance from the coaches to improve my form and feel really confident and capable. I also found the onramp class to be really helpful. The atmosphere is supportive and friendly and fun, and just enough competitive- or maybe that's just me! Think I'm mostly competing with myself. It's also just a really nice facility- love the open air layout, and the class sizes are just right.
Fantastic experience: After walking and running past GLSC for months when I first moved to Seattle, I knew I had to check it out. From the first on ramp class, I was so impressed by the care and knowledge the coaches shared and how dedicated they are to making sure we do workouts safely. A month in, I am never bored at class and constantly challenged while building strength. Would highly recommend this gym to anyone looking to get stronger in a great environment.
Fantastic experience: The community at Green Lake Strength and Conditioning is great. I love to see the friendly members and staff when I come in for my morning workout. More importantly, though, the coaching and programming are high quality, focusing on improvement and minimizing any opportunity for injury. I definitely recommend this gym.
Fantastic experience: As someone who took a break for a couple years and is now getting back into it, the GLSC staff and community have been awesome! The workouts are tough but fun, and the coaches are very supportive and happy to provide personalized advice. Glad to have found such a great gym!
Fantastic experience: I've been coming to GLSC for about 2 years and really like the gym. The trainers are great about creating challenging workouts that can be tailored to each person's abilities, the facilities and equipment are in good shape, and it's not a competitive environment at all. A great spot to work up a sweat!
Fantastic experience: My fiancé and I started coming to GLSC in the spring after living in the neighborhood for several years. Nate and Kate are both extremely accommodating and communicative as owners, and we've really enjoyed the pep and level of instruction from the coaches (shoutout to Patti and Jaeger!). We appreciate the coach's focus on teaching the proper technique for each movement to avoid injury, and the warmup exercises at the start of every class are targeted at the parts of your body that you will use during the rest of the workout. We also really like the small class sizes and variety in the exercises. As somebody who gets bored very easily, I've avoided becoming a regular at any gym in the past because every workout felt like the same exercises. Every class at GLSC has been different, and this has been important to helping me stay engaged. Joining GLSC has been a highlight of the summer for us, and we highly recommend the coaches and facility!
Fantastic experience: Green Lake Strength and Conditioning gym has been a really great experience so far personally. I started out with the initial on-ramp boot camp class, and that was great for getting a feel for the exercises that usually show up during the main Strength & Conditioning classes. They also have multiple apps that help you track what workouts you'll be doing and when for each upcoming week (in addition who's coaching those classes), so things feel organized. The open air set up in combination with the safety precautions the gym has taken has made me feel more comfortable with working out at a gym amidst the pandemic. GLSC has really allowed me to continue challenging myself physically while allowing me to feel safe in terms of the pandemic, which I really appreciate. Both the owners, Nate and Kate, and all the coaches I've interacted with (Patti, Tracy, Jaeger, Zeyab, Christian, Laura, Shaina) have been super friendly and knowledgeable when conducting their classes. I've really enjoyed attending their fitness workouts, and they've done great job in balancing creating a positive group workout environment with providing individual attention throughout the classes. In addition, this gym has a great community of people, and there's so many opportunities to engage in that way as well. Overall, I've really liked attending classes at GLSC and looking forward to many more great workouts here. If you're interested in challenging yourself physically while getting high quality coaching and community, you should definitely check out GLSC.
Fantastic experience: As a complete beginner, I felt so welcomed when I first stepped into GLSC. When you first join the gym, the coaches will take you through an on-ramp course to teach you their fundamental movements in a small class setting. It clearly shows that they care about proper technique and helping everyone develop a strong foundation for strength and conditioning. This is the first time I've attended a class-oriented gym, and I'm glad I've gotten to experience it with such a supportive community!
