Duluth Area Family YMCA: Opinions
Positive experience: Watch out for the dead spots on the basketball court.
Fantastic experience: Amazing location. I really enjoy this location and it has really given me the motivation to get back into working out!
Fantastic experience: great gym, and great kid care while you're there!
Fantastic experience: Great place to workout and meet new people, great staff
Fantastic experience: They have a good amount of space and opportunities. I noticed it was clean and I know a few coworkers who rave about the convenience of the location.
Positive experience: I’ll start off with that this is still the best gym in Duluth (commercial). But I’ve been a member for about 1.5 years since I moved to Duluth and the hot tub has been out of service the entire time. There have been signs they are working on it and it will be back soon. I can’t speak for the womens but the mens locker room smells like it has never been cleaned. Rest of the gym is clean and good.
Positive experience: Its not a bad place to work out.
Positive experience: Excellent staff and programs. Water aerobics outstanding. HC Parking :(
Fantastic experience: The Y has everything you would need to get back into shape, maintain, or exceed where your at. Reasonable monthly price, and overall a gym you can stay with. I'd recommend it if your visiting and need a workout.
Positive experience: Nice enough but not great accessibility. First off the street location Duluth has let fall apart the sidewalks and road are desperate need of repair. The handicap parking doesn’t have an access aisle for unloading wheelchairs and you feel very unsafe exiting your vehicle into traffic especially as a wheelchair user. The meters can’t be fed from a wheelchair without severe contortions. Duluth city is determined to make it difficult for the disabled community to access anything. The entrance into the facility is a turnstile which isn’t at all wheelchair accessible but the staff will let you in the exit swing away gate. There is an elevator to 4/5 floors, however if you wanted to book a private workout, rock climb or play racquetball it’s stairs very disappointing. However on the 2nd floor there is a hand cycle you can pull out the seat and roll chair into adjustable height for the pedals. A recumbent elipitical which you can lock your feet into place on and use your arms to make it move most of the equipment is spaced far enough out you can get in and around with exceptions to some of the areas on the second floor. I haven’t used the pools or locker rooms yet but a cursory glance looks accessible and the indoor track on the 3rd floor is a lot of fun however they didn’t have wheelchairs in mind and it is evident with a steep camber at each turn it’s also a ridiculously small track 1/16th a mile but it is a smooth flooring and I enjoyed myself. Overall I liked the facility very clean with amiable staff.
Positive experience: Has everything you need plus more to get a great workout in. Love the noonball basketball. Front dest people are friendly and can help with parking passes if you need one. Pool could be bigger for kids. Big looker rooms. Brandon the director runs a great basketball league outside of the y.
Fantastic experience: I love the staff and how they have treated me with such kindness.! This place is also known for a "safe place" as well.! I remember getting an o.f.p. on my abuser, and one day he walked in, and the desk n other staff called the police, not only he was removed, but he was band off the property! I love how big the locker rooms are, the pool is awesome, and the gym equipment is nice as well.!
Fantastic experience: I recently joined the Y, and since I have started going I have felt welcome since day 1! The staff is so friendly and they always take a moment to say hello and goodbye. It’s the little things.
Fantastic experience: THE BEST GYM I HAVE EVER BEEN PART OF......THEY CARE.....and they show it every time you walk in the door!!!!
Fantastic experience: Very nice facilities. Plenty of treadmills, ellipticals, and the like. Weight room is very comprehensive and most likely has whatever you need for your workout. Has good mix of machines, free weights, etc. Great YMCA! I came from out of town and had no issues transferring/proving my membership. Took maybe 3 minutes
Positive experience: Great place for rehabilitation after surgery! The diversity of machines is wonderful!
Fantastic experience: An excellent experience. I swim every day for an hour and shower and sauna. I love the lifeguard staff and desk staff. Very friendly helpful people. My only complaint is the locker room toilet near the showers. It stinks even first thing in the morning. A puddle of stinky water by the stool.
Fantastic experience: Clean facility, loving Anna’s classes.
Fantastic experience: Their birthday parties are sooo great. I had my youngest daughter's birthday party here and it was so relaxed working with Ines and the host of the party was basically an M.C. I had two hosts and they even played with the kids. They were amazing and so helpful. I can't believe it was this easy, I even got to enjoy the party. I definitely will book more birthday parties here.
Fantastic experience: The Y is a great place for the entire family. You can meet new friends and work out at the same time. With a great variety of classes, there is something for everyone.
Positive experience: Enjoyed the facility. Clean and offer lots of classes. I do wish their training for employees was better. Called to cancel over 4 months ago not knowing I had to actually go in. Person told me it was fine and taken care of. Not the case. Needless to say I'm out a couple hundred bucks. Partly my fault, of course, for not keeping a better eye on things but still definitely disappointed.
Fantastic experience: Swimming, yoga and a little bit of stationary cycling and volunteering at the Duluth Area YMCA are the activities I do most often here. My mom took me to a YWCA when I was a little girl in a different state. We had swimming lessons. I have loved swimming ever since. The YMCA has been a stable place for me to go throughout my life. As a teenager I took judo, racquetball and jazz dancing at a YMCA. Also gymnastics and group exercise. The Duluth YMCA has a nice vibe to it. It feels like family. My husband works out at the Duluth Area YMCA almost every weekday.
Fantastic experience: A great, cause based facility that believes in healthy lifestyles and growing the community more than anything else. I love the commitment to youth and the community as well as the drive to do more than workout.
Fantastic experience: Great place to work out! Lots of newer equipment and the staff were friendly and helpful.
Fantastic experience: I shower at local Y's wherever I can find them, this branch is the standard in customer service n facility cleanliness. The staff are amazing n treat you with respect. The mens locker room has always been clean. $2.17 for a shower, coffee, n the optional sauna sess!!
Fantastic experience: Great employees! Always friendly and helpful. My son takes tae kwon do and the instructors are wonderful .
Fantastic experience: Gym is fun! The pool is fun!... Honestly there are bad reviews on here for no reason...? Nothing smells like poop. The pool is not cloudy... But i will admit the locker room is disgusting. Other then that place is great!
Fantastic experience: As a visitor to Duluth today I was graciously hosted at the Duluth Y - both myself and my 1 year old daughter. We were able to use our Twin Cities Y membership with no problem. Wonderful staff, especially in the kids area. Great people there. Facility was clean and had lots to do and a great locker room. What an excellent place.
Fantastic experience: Absolutely love this place! The good they do for the community is amazing. Wonderful staff, wonderful programs!
Fantastic experience: Great gym and amazing people.
