Wicker Park Athletic Club: Opinions
Positive experience: Friendly staff, clean equipment and locker room. The studio has a very thin curtain facing the street which can be distracting during classes.
Fantastic experience: My gym and I love it, Great membership rates, good range of classes, free parking and towels and shampoo/lotions in the women's changing rooms. Plus they have TRX which kills me but I feel better for having done it every Thursday morning.
Positive experience: Great group fitness classes, awesomely welcoming staff and great parking situation- free across the street! It's clean and not too busy. Can usually get on the equipment you want to use. Highly recommend over Wicker Park Fitness.
Positive experience: This is a great gym. Great price and staff make this great gym. They also offer some great classes as well. The equipment is all pretty new which is really nice. I hate going to a gym and the equipment being all beet up. That's not the case here.
Fantastic experience: Clean Gym. Mediocre amenities. Haven’t taken any classes here yet but plan on going to one. I do prefer West Loop location as it is more spaced out with more amenities.
Fantastic experience: I have been visiting this gym for a long time. I really like it. Professional simulators, comfort and cleanliness in the hall, it's nice to be here. By the way, the prices are quite affordable, and about the staff and want to say: "Well done"
Fantastic experience: Great clean gym, which is nice to do, friendly staff.
Positive experience: You guys should put your updated hours on your website and here.
Fantastic experience: Clean overall environment
Positive experience: Gym, equipment, staff, and classes are all good no complaints there. However the parking lot is such a disaster that it makes coming to this CAC location difficult. Takes 10 minutes to get out of a spot and they allow people to park on the street blocking the lot which makes it even more difficult to get out. Parking is a NIGHTMARE essentially
Positive experience: The front desk staff are always super friendly and the club is always very clean. Keep in mind that it’s one of the smaller CAC clubs (if not the smallest) so it gets really busy between 4:30 - 6pm.
Positive experience: This is one of the best gyms I've been to with some of the worst hours. Before the pandemic they were closing at 11pm weekdays, 10pm weekends and 9pm Friday for some reason. Now it's 9pm weekdays, 7pm weekends, 8pm Friday. Ridiculous. This is the only gym I've been to in my life that closes every day before midnight, and it got worse after the pandemic. These people do not understand how people use gyms, which you would think is something that would be important to them. I'm down to 1 workout per week because the gym closes so early. I may have to switch to the smaller gym on Division.
Positive experience: My girlfriend and I have been members for years and we are completely satisfied with it. The yoga instructors are uniformly excellent as are the spin instructors. They lost a star from me only because they have inexplicably pared back spin classes to the extent that there are only a few. I’m surprised by that because some of the ones they canceled were very well attended. Otherwise great club
Positive experience: I'm giving wicker park 4 stars because I came from the webster place gym that unexpectedly close. I really enjoyed Ariel yoga, the sauna/steam room and the overall space and amenities of webster place. Again, not a fault to wicker park. It's a difficult transition especially with the lack of space and parking ; it makes it hard to feel motivated to come in. In general staff is very nice, i do like the chicago athletic clubs format and classes. My only other gripe is that I felt patronized when signing up for a returning membership. I was told while signing up due to my profession I would be getting a great deal. In actuality the sales rep just gave me the current promotion during the time. I didn't say anything in moment cause it happened very quickly but as I reflect that experience was really appalling to experience.
Fantastic experience: I like it that’s it’s convenient if you live near in the area. Lots of equipment to choose from. Staff is very outgoing and helpful. Very clean gym.
Positive experience: Nice layout and helpful staff. However, after going to other CAC locations it seems like this gym is a bit neglected. Crowding is insanely bad and gets worse every week. Lines to lift are long and the locker rooms horribly small. These issues do not seems to be as bad at other CAC locations such as BAC and LPAC, which also seem to have more comprehensive class schedule. That said the energy is good and staff is nice, I just wish this gym got the attention from admin that it deserves.
Positive experience: Decent neighborhood gym. Small and sometimes very crowded. Limited number of machines, benches, floor space means waiting. That said, the vibe isn't bad. Desk staff are friendly but anything more than signing in requires membership staff who work business hours. I wouldn't say it's great value for the money, but I love the convenience of it being in my neighborhood. It's also reasonably clean which I appreciate.
Fantastic experience: Clean facility, helpful staff, and plenty of modern equipment.
Positive experience: Music is consistently awful. Don't forget your headphones. Gym otherwise is great, nice layout
Fantastic experience: I normally go to BAC because I get off the Damen/blue line after work and go right in. Today is my day off so I decided to check this one out. I liked how the cardio machines are close to the work out equipment. It makes it easier to keep your heart rate up if you're looking to do a circuit work out. They also have a bigger variety of leg and ab machines. I don't think it's better than BAC, but if I have to choose where to go on back and leg day, it would be the Wicker Park location.
Fantastic experience: Clean, local gym for a fair price.
Fantastic experience: Friendly staff, clean locker room and equipment
Positive experience: I only visit this club occasionally as I primarily go to West loop location. This is probably my least favorite CAC location as it gets very crowded, and when it gets crowded the studio floors gets dirty. They do not wipe down the studio floor in between as they schedule classes back to back and if you come after a sweaty class, the floor do get gross. Plus if you go to a class that doesn't need shoes and class before does wear shoe, your feet pick up all the dirt. They need to think about the way they schedule group classes. Otherwise the club is fine: clean locker rooms, professional staff, and fair equipment set.
Fantastic experience: Great gym for the price, very clean and friendly staff available for personal training.
Positive experience: Very clean and well stocked gym, particularly an abundance of cardio machines, each with their own TV. At $70+ per month the prices are quite steep.
Fantastic experience: It's convenient if you live near by. It has enough equipment to choose from. The staff here are very friendly and helpful. Very clean place.
