Fantastic experience: As student of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and submission grappling since 2003 I've had the opportunity to work with many great instructors. I've been with Nick Stefan since 2007 for the simple reason that he is the best instructor I've ever had. The one thing that sticks out in my mind is that Nick has the ability to teach the subtle nuances of BJJ technique that make a world of difference when executing a technique. It's these small but powerful details that determine success or failure of a technique when training live (sparing) and MOST IMPORTANTLY IN ANY REAL WORLD SELF-DEFENSE SITUATION. Another HUGE plus is Gracie Carlsbad is a Gracie Humaitá affiliate school which of course was founded by Grandmaster Helio Gracie and son Royler Gracie. So it would be an understatement to say that this school is well respected in the Jiu-Jitsu community. I mean this is where it all started right? Bottom line... if you're looking for Brazilian Jiu-jitsu, submission grappling, MMA, Muay Thai kick boxing, kids classes, women's classes, self-defense, or just want to get fit and have fun GRACIE CARLSBAD IS THE PLACE!

Fantastic experience: Solid Jiu-Jitsu, solid work out, solid Muay Thai. Basically everything you need to stay in great shape. Nick is an outstanding instructor of the art of Jiu-Jitsu. He presents a great class and keeps you in shape. The instruction offers Muay Thai and Judo as well. An A-list establishment to say the least.

Fantastic experience: Recommended by a friend, I had the opportunity to train at Gracie Jiu-Jitsu Carlsbad while in San Diego from NYC for the IBJJF World Championships. This academy has an exceptional atmosphere for training, learning and progressing. From the moment I walked into the gym, the team at Gracie Jiu-Jitsu made me feel right at home. I'm very fortunate to have had such fine competition training before competing at Worlds. Nothing but the best at this academy!

Gracie Carlsbad is accessible to all who are interested from the novice with absolutely no experience to the seasoned Jiu-Jitsu competitor. This gym is unique in how well rounded it is because Gracie Carlsbad is also host to world class Muay Thai, jiu-jitsu classes for kids, and street defense. Gracie Carlsbad is first and foremost a family place because it is family owned and operated. Professor Nick Stefan, owner and head instructor, is a highly decorated world class competitor who has dedicated his life to his art and his students, and it shows through to all who have the pleasure in becoming part of the Gracie Carlsbad family. I cannot recommend this place enough.

Fantastic experience: We have been attending Gracie Jiu Jitsu in Carlsbad for approximately 6 months. Our son is enrolled in the Little Ninjas program and it has been a positive experience since Day 1. This is a family owned and operated business, run by husband and wife team, Nick and Staci Stefan. They have children of their own, so rest assured, they have plenty of experience in dealing with the kiddos. They, along with the other instructors (just as wonderful), go out of their way to make the most out of each class, with each class containing the perfect balance of technique and instruction, along with fun. In addition to receiving the best Jiu Jitsu training around, the kids are also gaining self confidence, learning patience, enhancing their listening skills, experiencing the reward of hard work and making great friends. This class is well suited for both boys and girls and all the kids are treated equal regardless of skill level. Fantastic experience: Been training here for a little over a year. The instructors are awesome, very welcoming and knowledgeable. The facility is great, large and modern. My fellow students are encouraging and understanding while still being killers. Great atmosphere to train and get better at Jiu-jitsu. There are plenty of gyms to train at, but I would recommend anyone that wants to get into Jiu-jitsu or has already trained to sign up for a free trial and check out what these guys have to offer.

Fantastic experience: This is a world class jiu-jitsu gym. The instructors are incredible and the atmosphere is encouraging. Not only is the staff amazing but the gym members are fantastic too. I’ve been going to this bjj gym for 3+ years and the atmosphere is 100% positive. My only regret is not finding this gym sooner! :)

Fantastic experience: My son Jase has been coming here for Brazilian jiu jitsu since he was 3! He's 5 now and loves it more and more everyday. He is not just learning how to defend and protect himself with the techniques, but it has also given him confidence, exercise, discipline, improved focus, and ability to socialize with kids his age range. He's recently moved up to big kids to where he is learning submissive moves and is now doing Muay Thai, which is included in membership (so cool!). The teachers including the owners who also are well known in the sport, have professional experiences from UFC and other platforms, are just amazing with the kids and so patient with them. I love how Staci personally knows each and every child and can talk to the parents of her professional advice as to how to help each child in order to continue to grow in the sport and enjoy it at the same time! My husband has also joined and started doing BJJ as well. I highly highly recommend this sport especially this place to everyone looking to have their child join an extracurricular activity. It teaches the child also to teach them to think and use the knowledge they've learned and actually put it into action. I saw it when my 5 yo "went live" with a 7 yo and beat him 4 out of 5!

Everyone was very friendly and welcoming; I immediately felt comfortable coming in to train. Instruction was excellent and very detail oriented. The people here are top notch, both the instruction and team are amazing people that make you feel welcome. In my opinion this is an ideal place to learn, its safe, easy going and provides PREMIUM instruction. Fantastic experience: Most importantly, the instruction is excellent. Nick, Stacy, David, Charlie, and Steve are all great martial artists, teachers, and human beings. They are focused on helping their students - no egos, self promotion, etc. The facilities are clean and well maintained. Last, there is a great vibe - a sense of community and respect for all. After looking at several places around town, Gracie Carlsbad is definitely a step above the rest. Great place for kids or adults to train.

Fantastic experience: So awesome. This was my fifth year joining the Gracie Carlsbad team in the mornings while vacationing in California. Nick and Staci have created a truly welcoming environment. I appreciate the instructors in depth knowledge of sport and self defense jujitsu and am glad to learn and grow with them during my training visits. I highly recommend you give them a try. There are a lot of high level belts here which goes to show not only the community but also that the instruction is great. Very glad I joined here as a white belt. Fantastic experience: I cannot imagine starting my Jiu Jitsu journey at a finer academy than Gracie Jiu Jitsu Carlsbad. Professor Nick Stefan, the instructors under him and the advanced belts at the academy are some of the best teachers of both technique and mindset that you could hope to find. After a year's worth of observation, it must be pointed out that the quality of teaching that I'm referring to apples to every student type of every level. The kids/youth Gracie Jiu Jitsu and self defense classes are world class with instructors that are truly gifted in working with the youth. And, the general courses provide great experiences for adults to learn valuable skills, train with people of all belt levels, train with people from all walks of life and better yourself physically and mentally.. I don't know how Professor Stefan and his wife, Staci have put together such an open, welcoming, safe place to train with such a great group of people studying. I'm just grateful that they have. I've checked out all of the options in North San Diego County and you will not find a better Jiu Jitsu facility to entrust your children to or to train yourself. I highly recommend Gracie Jiu Jitsu Carlsbad (and its sister facility, Gracie Jiu Jitsu San Marcos) to everyone within driving distance.

Fantastic experience: I was referred to Gracie Jiu Jitsu Carlsbad by a coworker and I was not disappointed. I take the Gracie Fundamentals class since I had never done a day of BJJ in my life and the instruction received by David and Nick are top notch. On top of that, everyone there is super friendly and helps to make a newbie feel welcomed. I would highly recommend going here if you're thinking about learning to defend yourself.

Fantastic experience: Nick is one of the best BJJ instructors I've ever had. I'm so happy my neighbor turned me on to his school! He takes the time to show each student how to make the moves work for them if they're having trouble with them (I have the flexibility of a steel beam - so I need his help often.....) The classes have the perfect balance between technique instruction and training/sparring. There aren't any aggro meatheads in the classes I've been to and everyone is eager to help you learn. It's the perfect environment for anyone willing to learn or improve on what they already know.

Fantastic experience: I've been to various Jiu-Jitsu gyms and this one is so far the best I've ever trained at. All of the instructors are highly skilled and do an awesome job of pin pointing every little detail in any technique they teach, making sure as well that it is understandable to all of the students. The gym is a very well kept friendly environment where you can just leave your ego at the door and have a good time rolling and progressing. They also have Muay Thai classes taught by Andy Scott another highly skilled coach with a lot of experience. There are also plenty of seminars that go on that are taught by some pretty big names. I highly recommend anybody in or out of the area to check out this gym.
