Our comment from FitFit United States about Colorado Athletic Club DTC:

Colorado Athletic Club DTC is a gym that offers a vibrant community and a range of fitness options, from yoga and spinning classes to a spacious weight training area. Many members appreciate the friendly and helpful staff who create a welcoming environment, making it easier to work out and engage with others. The club features a large indoor area for various exercises, a heated swimming pool, and a turf zone equipped with advanced training equipment.

However, there are significant concerns regarding facility maintenance and customer service. Numerous reviews highlight issues with cleanliness in the locker rooms, outdated equipment, and a lack of responsiveness from management regarding cancellation policies. Members frequently report frustrating experiences when trying to cancel their memberships, often facing unexpected charges and unprofessional communication.

In summary, while Colorado Athletic Club DTC is praised for its amenities and community atmosphere, many members urge potential clients to consider the inconsistencies in service and facility upkeep when making their decision.

Negative experience: My short experience with CAC DTC has been extremely underwhelming, and the manager, Kat, is the sole reason I submitted a cancellation request. I stopped by the office, politely started with “Happy New Year,” and raised serious hygiene concerns—specifically the filthy, corroded faucets in the bathrooms (see photo). Her response? She flat-out refused to acknowledge there was an issue and stated they “wait until things fail.” That attitude alone is unacceptable. These fixtures are disgusting, unsanitary, and clearly neglected. I also raised concerns about the cheap, low-quality toilet paper that disintegrates, forcing people to fish it out—an extremely unhygienic situation in a gym environment. Again, she refused to acknowledge there had ever been an issue or to investigate. Apparently, basic cleanliness and disease prevention are not a priority here. The facility itself is aging and poorly maintained, and it is absolutely not worth a $100+ monthly membership, especially when management refuses to listen, investigate, or take accountability. Instead of professionalism, I was met with rudeness and dismissal. This isn’t new behavior either. Months ago, Kat wrongfully sided with a trainer who failed to provide me with the terms and conditions for training sessions before purchase. Because of their lack of diligence, I lost a session in the system—which they refused to credit. While I initially let it go, today’s discussion made it clear they still believe this was my negligence, despite the fact that the terms were never presented. That says everything about the complete lack of accountability from top to bottom at this gym. At this point, I am seriously considering filing complaints with OSHA and the State Attorney under consumer protection laws, because it appears CAC will not act unless forced to. This did not need to escalate. All management had to say was: “Absolutely, we’ll investigate and replace the faucets and toilet paper. Can you show us where you noticed the issue?” Instead, they chose arrogance and denial. So be it.

Negative experience: Like others have said, this gym is just another place that’s scammy when it comes to memberships. I tried to cancel both mine and my husband’s memberships and was told we were on a joint account and that both would be canceled. That didn’t happen, we were still charged for one after what we were told would be the final month. When I called back to cancel the second membership, I was then told our accounts were never linked in the first place, meaning we also never received the discount for having two memberships. That’s just bad business. Frustrating after giving them our business for three years.

Colorado Athletic Club DTC

Hi Claire, we’re very sorry for the frustration this caused and appreciate you sharing your experience. We understand how upsetting billing and cancellation confusion can be, especially after being a member for several years. This is not the experience we want for our members, and we’d like the opportunity to review your account details and clarify what occurred. Please contact our Membership Accounting team or reach out to the club’s General Manager so we can look into this and work toward a resolution.

Negative experience: Katie is the sole reason why I am giving 2 stars. She is so amazing and personable and a great active listener. My rating is so low because they are charging well over $115/month (not including the sign-up fee) for a gym that's no better than a Vasa or Planet Fitness! The reason why you can't find their costs/fees online is because they're so absolutely outrageous they will scare you away... Normally, it's $320 just to begin the membership... a $200 enrollment fee and about $116 or more per month! (The enrollment fee is waved with a certain sale after Christmas.) Be warned, other reviews also mention a weird cancellation thing of 3 months or something... Definitely ask about this before signing up. However, Katie was diligent and respectful. I recommend speaking with her. She's incredibly kind and understanding. The locker rooms were gross, dirty, and unmaintained. I only went one time, and 2 of the three sinks I used trying to wash my hands were flooding and spraying on me... Gross! Their hours are extremely limited... the front desk guy gave me a hard time for leaving 2 minutes after closing... like, sorry? I couldn't find a working sink! Oh, and LADIES DO NOT GET A SAUNA, BUT MEN DO?!?! fyi.... that's an equality issue, btw... Their cardio equipment is terrible. Sticky, outdated, and clearly dirty. Ellipticals are at least a decade old; some of their buttons and screens don't even work... Their "new" treadmills only go up to 6 mph pace despite being new... Making them subpar for any average/above-average runner. Now, I will say, it's one of the best resistance setups I have experienced... a ton of space, weights, decent squat racks, and an awesome turf area. Their new glute-focused machines are awesome! However, this gym is just charging way, way, way too much for what's offered. You can find the same, if not better, at your local commercial gym for 1/6th of what DTC Colorado Athletic Club charges... I am a qualified, professional fitness enthusiast (or a fitness snob, if you will ;) ...). If you're like me, I highly suggest looking at a different gym.

Colorado Athletic Club DTC

Hi Naleia, thank you for taking the time to share such detailed feedback. We’re glad to hear Katie made a positive impression — we’ll be sure to pass along your kind words, as she truly cares about creating a welcoming experience.

We also appreciate you being candid about your concerns regarding pricing, facilities, equipment, and amenities. Membership rates, fees, and cancellation terms are always reviewed in detail during the sign-up process, but we understand how important it is that expectations align with experience. Your feedback on locker room maintenance, equipment condition, hours, and amenity availability has been shared with our leadership team for review.

We strive to offer a high-quality training environment, especially in our strength and turf spaces, and we’re grateful you recognized those areas. Thank you again for your honesty, feedback like this helps us continue improving.

Negative experience: These guys signed me up for $110/month. The first month came out of my account for $150. After bringing this to their attention, they told me they made a mistake at signup and the rate is $150/month. I am trapped in at 3 months but will be cancelling immediately after. THIS IS TERRIBLE BUSINESS PRACTICE. The gym is mostly empty now, they should have been happy just for a new member. A lot of their equipment is rusty too, I'll get pics and add to this post later

Negative experience: $120 a month for broken AC for nearly a month with no ETA on when it will be fixed. Half the clients here are elderly and for some reason management doesn’t seem to think air conditioning in a GYM in the middle of summer is not a priority for her members and elderly clients. Make it make sense to me.

Fantastic experience: I joined in 1995. I'm on Silver Sneakers now and have free memberships all over town. Regardless, CAC DTC is still my home club even though I have to pay for it. Why? First, there's a tremendous sense of community. I always feel welcome there and look forward to engaging with my many friends at the club. Next, it's the spin classes. It's one of the few clubs that offers Look Delta pedals as well as the standard SPD's. I have a size 13 foot. The Looks give me a much more stable platform which makes it easier on my knees. The class leaders are enthusiastic and knowledgeable. What's more, we're learning serious concepts. We don't just spin. I'm focusing on functional threshold power intervals. No other club teaches it. There's also a strong focus on pedal mechanics. Finally, they took the basketball court, carpeted it, painted various markers on it the floor and made it into an open exercise area that they call The Arena. I run windsprints there and also push a 100 kilo tire from one end to the other. There are more weight and exercise machines in addition to the ones in the main area. The Arena gives you plenty of space to spread out and do whatever you can think of to get strong. It's a wonderful place. While it lacks some of the amenities that you see at Greenwood or some of the national corporate clubs, it's big on the stuff that really counts for me.

Negative experience: Terrible customer service. Don’t join if you think you ever might need to cancel your membership. They make you jump through unnecessary hoops to do so, and then charge you membership fees for additional months beyond the date of your cancellation. If you cancel, particularly after the 1st of the month, they will charge you for two more monthly billing cycles and justify it by saying that you should have cancelled two months prior to avoid the extra charges. I get requiring 30 days notice, but then continuing to charge additional billing cycles beyond 30 days is just wrong.

Negative experience: I wanted to follow up on my previous concerns regarding the Colorado Athletic Club DTC. Unfortunately, the issues with inconsistent opening times have only worsened. The morning crew is now late more often than they are on time, making it impossible to rely on the gym’s advertised 5 AM opening. This ongoing lack of reliability is frustrating and disruptive, especially for those of us who plan our workouts around early morning access. Additionally, the cleanliness issues in the locker rooms remain a concern. Used band-aids in the showers, hair-covered sinks, and weights left out overnight continue to detract from what should be a top-tier facility. The lack of towels and amenities further diminishes the overall experience. If these problems persist without improvement, I will have to seriously reconsider my membership. I would appreciate an update on what actions are being taken to address these concerns.

Negative experience: DIRTY LOCKER ROOMS I’ve been a member at this gym and location for quite some time, but the condition of the locker rooms is absolutely unacceptable. What’s most shocking is how neglected and filthy these areas have become—especially considering how much we pay for memberships. PICTURES ATTACHED. All Photos are from October 2024 **Steam Room:** Dirty floors, grimy tiles, and a constant stench of mold. I’ve taken pictures that show visible dirt buildup that clearly hasn’t been cleaned in days, if not weeks or months. **Urinals and Stalls:** I never thought I’d say this, but there are feces on the walls of the stalls. It’s horrifying and disgusting, making me question the hygiene standards here. Urine is caked on the urinals and floor. **Showers & Countertops:** The showers are a breeding ground for germs—mold growing in the corners and soap scum buildup all over the floors and walls. The countertops around the sinks are also regularly filthy and covered in grime. **Drinking Fountain:** A simple glance at the drinking fountain tells you everything you need to know about the cleaning practices here. The fountain looks like it hasn’t been wiped down in ages. How can this be the state of a facility where people come to improve their health? **Hot Tub:** Even with the hot tub drained, the condition is appalling. The walls and floor are caked with grime and dirt, revealing just how poorly this area is maintained. You can see layers of filth that have clearly been neglected for far too long. It makes me seriously question whether the hot tub is ever cleaned properly when in use. This is a major health risk. The Hot tub is also broken for the third time this year. **Locker Room Attendant:** I also want to point out the concerning lack of effort by the evening locker room attendant. There's an older gentleman who is supposed to maintain the locker rooms, but all I ever see him do is walk back and forth adding towels to the rack. Meanwhile, the actual cleaning—scrubbing surfaces, disinfecting showers, or even wiping down sinks—seems to be completely ignored. It feels like the bare minimum is being done, and that’s just not enough for a facility of this size and reputation. I’ve brought this to management’s attention multiple times, but **nothing has changed.** It’s clear that cleanliness and maintenance are not priorities here, and that’s beyond disappointing. I have even spoken to the GM and her response is "well we cannot clean all the time, what if we are cleaning someones favorite shower when they are here, we can't have that." She then tried to gas light me saying that the dirt were just 'stains' and not an issue. She unfortunately is not able to walk into the locker rooms with me to showcase this for obvious reasons.

Negative experience: Dirty locker rooms, bugs, mold. Amenities don’t function, no hot tub for the last month. Sink out of order even longer. Of course they still want us to pay full price for our membership despite not providing full amenities. DO BETTER CAC. Levi at the front desk makes my time at the gym much more tolerable. He is incredibly friendly and always attentive to the needs of gym goers.

Positive experience: Colorado Athletic Club DTC boasts a fantastic community of members, making it a pleasant environment for workouts, especially during the quieter early mornings. However, several issues dampen the overall experience. The most pressing concern is the inconsistency in opening times. Despite the advertised 5 am start, frequent tardiness or no-shows from staff have become a frustrating occurrence. This not only disrupts members' schedules but also throws a wrench in their workout plans. Consistency in opening hours is crucial for maintaining a positive gym experience for everyone. Additionally, hygiene standards in the locker rooms leave much to be desired. Finding used band-aids near the hot tub or in the showers, along with sinks coated in hair, is unpleasant and concerning. Furthermore, weights left out overnight and a shortage of towels and amenities detract from the cleanliness and professionalism expected from a top-tier gym. On a positive note, the gym's convenient location attached to my office is a significant perk. However, improvements in punctuality and cleanliness are essential to elevate Colorado Athletic Club DTC to a five-star establishment.

Colorado Athletic Club DTC

Hello, Nick and thank you for your review. We apologize for the experience you had. While we strive to open on time, as posted, every single day, we did have one of our club openers no call/no show and the issue was addressed in a timely manner. We would like to have you try the club again. Thank you!

Negative experience: Machines that have not worked well since pre-Covid, same with TV’s. Cleaning has improved as has restocking of cleaning wipes. As recently as this past week handsize clean towels were not available. But still not up to par. Lots of room for improvement. Team members are friendly as are face to face leadership. I blame behind the scenes leadership/owners for this continuous decline. They are not investing in repair and replacement, or in hiring and paying staff. We are 35+ year members. My husband has left in frustration but I remain with solo membership thanks to 4 minute drive, and many friendly faces over the years. Plus I hate change!! Creating a suggestion box that was actually followed up on would solve creaky machines and TV’s that do not work. Just a suggestion.

Negative experience: Talk about poor customer service. They will charge you for months and months after you stop going and send you to collections. While legally they may be in the right it’s simply poor ethics and a way to steal money from people. My written notice must have gotten lost in the shuffle or somehow not sent. Hundreds of dollars for not going to their gym. As I was not receiving any mail for the past few months. Not worth the high $ / month. And them locking you into a situation.

Negative experience: Poor communication with management and staff members. We canceled our membership early December but were apparently directed to the wrong person and received incorrect information regarding the cancellation policy. I inquired more than once to get clarification about this and received no response. I would highly recommended going down the street to Club Greenwood where it only costs $30 more a month for a couples membership. Their communication has been great and they have many more amenities. Club Greenwoods cancellation policy favors the customer and they have been incredibly responsive with any questions I have. *In regard to the response from the owner below: I’ve been inquiring to get clarification since the beginning of December…the club was open and running then. Totally support employees taking time off. I was not directed to contact someone else nor did the person I was emailing with have an away message on their email. When I sent in a general inquiry in the website today after not receiving a response, I got an email back quickly from the GM. I was told the person I originally spoke with “does not handle cancellations” and she was not sure why I was directed to him in the first place. Not my problem. The associate I spoke with initially never told me he didn’t handle cancellations. After asking, he told me we would not be charged again in January because we had cancelled. When I asked for further confirmation I could not get a response. I reached out more than twice after that. There is absolutely no reason I shouldn’t have gotten a response or a reason why it took this long to get a response. That is an excuse. Overall bad customer service and today was directed to contact someone else outside of the club to solve the dispute rather than someone from CAC DTC helping:

Colorado Athletic Club DTC

Hello Kaylan~ In speaking with the club it seems as though you were communicating with one of our membership representatives. Unfortunately, it is the holiday season and our associates do take time to be with their loved ones. Our clubs were also closed for the holiday. We responded to your email inquiries as quickly as we were able. Again, we apologize for any frustration our delayed response caused.

Negative experience: Recently joined at the Tabor Center location so I thought I would check out this location. I feel bad for the people who are paying to use this. It’s dirty, rundown, and in need of a lot of work. The only redeeming qualities was the class time and the pool temperature. Whats going on CAC? Looks like you need to clean shop up because they are not taking care of the company or the brand.

Negative experience: This gym makes cancelling your membership a nightmare. We were moving and went in person to fill out the paperwork and we’re told that the last time we would be billed was for March. It is now May and we have been billed two additional times. We called last month and the GM said she would get it canceled and give us a refund and that did not happen. If you need to cancel your membership, take a picture of the paperwork before you leave it with them. Do not join this gym.

Colorado Athletic Club DTC

Hello Madison and thank you for reaching out. It looks like you are the secondary person on the 12 month agreement that was signed. Therefore, you wouldn't be able to cancel the membership. The annual membership was also signed in July 2022 which makes it valid until August of 2023 unless certain criteria are met. We are sorry to hear of your frustration, but please have the primary member reach out to our membership accounting department to see if you are eligible for an early termination. Thanks!

Anfernee Calloway 2 years ago

Negative experience: Do not join this gym. They will continue to bill you after you cancel your membership. My wife and I had been members for almost a year before we moved and had to cancel our membership. We gave several months notice and went into the gym to fill out paperwork to leave. It has been 3 months and they refuse to stop billing us even after talking to the managers. They have outright lied 2 months in a row saying that we are going to get a refund and just continue to bill us the next month. The facilities are nice but you should go literaly anywhere else unless you want to deal with their shady billing practices l.

Colorado Athletic Club DTC

Hello Anfernee and thank you for reaching out. It looks like you joined on a 12 month agreement. The annual membership was signed in July 2022 which makes it valid until August of 2023 unless certain criteria are met. It appears you have spoke with our team and have not provided any of the documentation necessary to cancel outside of your annual membership. Your membership is set to cancel August 31, 2023 in coordination with the annual term. We are sorry to hear of your frustration, but please reach out to our membership accounting department to discuss . Thanks!

Negative experience: They made canceling my membership difficult. I had canceled my membership in a joint account, and then they lost my paperwork and charged me for an extra month. The new GM Brittney made a policy that she is the only one in the branch that can accept the cancellation paper work and she was never in the gym when I was able to go so I ended up going a few times. After emailing with corporate, they told me I should go to the gym to talk with the person I gave the paperwork to. Well, of course, I had the luck that that person didn't work there anymore. Of course, signing up was the easiest thing in the world, even though I felt it was a little expensive. I paid $195 for a joint membership. But when it came time to cancel it was a mess.

Positive experience: Pros: not crowded no matter the time (hard to find a gym like that in this community), good parking, variety of equipment to use, multiple locations, variety of classes I got a membership deal when I signed up and was also told I'd get credit for referrals. I have not seen the referral credit on my account despite reaching out to corporate accounting above the club level (I appreciate Devin reaching out to them as well on my behalf). EDIT: After reaching out to their corporate accounting department multiple times, the issue with my credit has been resolved.

Negative experience: There is gym , there is health club .. there is this there is that and this is none. Spa smells or won’t work sometimes. Some self proclaimed cool people think it’s mandatory to be naked in the locker room. It was funny. Just a place where young suits act elite and subtly shame how members aren’t cool & elite enough for the club. Hey but my $140 didn’t need that elite stamp. The receptionists who checked me in were all good & pleasantexcept one little guy.. Cold people otherwise. Never will go again

Fantastic experience: This club is a pure delight. Not only do they offer a heated yoga/Pilates studio but all the classes are innovative and professionally taught. Coming in soon is the My Zone HR based training for not only the functional fitness and weight training areas , but for the spin room with new Stages (met based) bikes, as well as huge aerobic studio. There is never a wait for the exorbitant variety of of cardio equipment. Personal trainers are veterans in the industry and always wiling to help. The pool is kept clean and rarely crowded. Pull under the club in the free underground parking area when weather is inclement. Stay and use the heated eucalyptus steam room , hot tub and steam room then get dressed in the well stocked locker rooms. This club is the perfect size to form friendships and make it your home!

Fantastic experience: I've been going to health clubs in Denver for 20 years. Done the meat-market clubs as well as higher-end clubs. Colorado Athletic Club is IMHO the best balance of cost and quality. My membership lets me go to all of them. Tabor center is one of my favorites for its ambiance. My top club is DTC mainly because outside the rush hours (morning, evening) there really aren't that many people. I think this is because it's in more of a business setting. Even though the clients and staff at CAC-DTC are mostly very friendly and courteous, I go to the gym mainly to increase my strength and cardio. At CAC-DTC, if I go "off-hours" like as in 9AM - noon and 1PM-5PM, I never, ever, have a problem getting onto whatever specialized equipment (Smith and other Free-weight cages) i need to use. Never, Ever. Wham Bam, I can always get the burn using whatever I need in an hour. As for equipment, ..they have everything, all kinds of free weights, universal-like machines, the treadmills, ball, bands, stretching apparatus, filtered water, poles, balls (opps said that), disks, pads, mats,..everything. And all the usual activities (yoga, cycling, group exercise room), showers, towels, personal care cosmetics, clean locker rooms, steam, dry saunas, hot tub, etc. What I really like is their large, indoor "football" field where you can do all kinds of cardio, flexibility training (with again, all those balls, pads, etc.) not to mention, laying down to stretch, or even rest. CAC-DTC is a hidden gem. I wouldn't go there to necessarily socialize but for a focused workout where the sky's the limit, yeah, it's perfect.

Kayla Pierson 3 years ago

Negative experience: Poor customer service, poor quality, poor equipment, poor atmosphere... NOT worth the large price-tag on the membership whatsoever. This club is old/outdated, smells, & massively lacks in quality in every way. Needs a huge renovation & equipment update. They should be able to afford such things after stealing money from members from $140+ memberships. What exactly do you guys feel is worth that much money for your club? Very disappointed I joined this club as I expected sooo much more bang for my buck. I joined to elevate my workout experience & to deal with less of a crowd; however, even with the busyness of the gym & a further drive, I'll stick with my $12 VASA membership - they have way more to offer than CAC DTC.

Colorado Athletic Club DTC

Hello, Kayla~ Thank you for your comments regarding Colorado Athletic Club-DTC. At CAC, we view feedback as a gift. We could boast about the personal relationships we have built at DTC where our membership has one of the highest retention rates of any of our clubs. We could also mention that the over 70 pieces of cardio equipment and weight training equipment has one of the highest in-service ratings of our clubs. But, we recognize value is an individual thing each member must determine on their own. For some it’s the steam room, indoor pool or 60 studio classes per week. For others it’s the uncrowded environment, towel service and spacious locker rooms and amenities. We aspire to deliver an exceptional experience every day. If we have fallen short in your eyes, we apologize and wish you continued success in your personal health journey.

Negative experience: I have been a member at this club for many years and greatly enjoyed my time there with most of the members and management. Unfortunately, they have a personal trainer, Rene, that has gone out of her way continually to harass me and disrupt my enjoyment of the club. She has cursed at me several times, makes threats to my membership and is just confrontational. Unfortunately, the club management caved and Rene ultimately got her way and my membership was terminated. I remained with the club as a loyal member for many years when equipment remained broken for a month or longer, hot tub broken for 6 months, steam room broken, etc. It is just sad that one bad person, Rene, was allowed to wrongfully terminate a member.

Colorado Athletic Club DTC

Hello, Brent~ We apologize for your frustrations regarding how things transpired at the club. Given the current mandates and government restrictions, we are required to have each of our members wear a mask at all times while in the club. We granted several warnings and requested you wear your mask appropriately. As an organization we can't risk being shut down for non-compliancy reasons. We do hope you understand why we had to take the necessary steps.

Fantastic experience: I can't think of a better, safer, or cleaner place to work out than Colorado Athletic Club-DTC. During a time when there is so much negativity and uncertainty around, it's refreshing to have a place you can always count on to pick you up. The entire staff at Colorado Athletic Club-DTC has been nothing short of phenomenal during this pandemic. Between, Lyndi, Lindz, and Luis, the management has ensured that members still come first. Nikki and the rest of the cleaning staff work from open to close to create a sanitized and safe environment for the club. Responsible social distancing, mask guidelines, and registering for club times are just a few ways that CAC is taking preventative measure to help create a positive place to keep your fitness dreams alive. If you're looking for a great workout in a clean and friendly atmosphere, look no further than CAC-DTC!

Colorado Athletic Club DTC

WOW! Thank you for the awesome review, Scott. We are so glad you are part of our fitness family. Our teammates at DTC are simply one of a kind and amazing!

Fantastic experience: I was back and forth about continuing with my membership once COVID hit, and unfortunately took a financial hit(like most everyone else). Of course the gym is the last place I want to eliminate from my life, but I didn't have many options. However, Lindsay was absolutely incredible about everything. She took the time to work with me and made sure that I was able to continue on with my membership. I never felt pressured in any way, and I am happy to say I will be staying with CAC-DTC for as long as I live in Denver! Can't say enough great things about her! Also, the gym is incredibly clean and I have been extremely impressed with all the COVID precautions taken by the staff.

Colorado Athletic Club DTC

WOW, Thomas! Thank you for this spectacular review! We are thrilled to see you feel safe in the club. Lindsay is definitely a superstar. Happy you are part of our CAC Family!

Negative experience: This club is a joke. They charge a $25 fee because my card expired and I didn't realize. I tried calling for months the number on the bill they sent me with no answer. I finally found a different number to call and this is the news they give me.. P.S. its super dirty which was the reason I was cancelling in the first place. Not a good thing in a Covid world.

Colorado Athletic Club DTC

Hello, Chad~
I have reviewed your membership account and it looks like we sent letters about your credit card declining and asking for an update. We also called and left a message for you on June 29 as well as sent an email. It also looks like you haven't been to the club since January 29, pre-covid closure. The club is disinfected every day, all day by our housekeeping associates and our members. We are also using electrostatic disinfectant guns. Each member upon entry is provided a towel and CDC approved hospital grade disinfectant to wipe down their equipment.

Negative experience: The overall quality of this gym continues to drop every month and management does not seem to care or be worried. The men's hot tub has been broken for almost 2 months, it's standard for the locker room to be completely out of towels, soap and other amenities, the gym floor is constantly out of cleaning wipes and water cups, car break ins in the garage have become a weekly occurence. This gym charges over 3x the price of most gyms and even increased charges on its members while not maintaining the same facility qualities. The biggest redeeming factor for this gym is that the front desk attendants and trainers are amazing people who give me hope that this gym can still turn around.

Fantastic experience: I know you have hundreds of choices when it comes to working out, whether you do it on your own outside or going to a gym. The Colorado Athletic Club in the Denver Tech Center was running a promotion in conjunction with the apartment complex where I live for a free week including a session with a personal trainer. Free is always good in my book, so I signed up. The facility is really nice and super clean. That's important to me, regardless if you're eating a restaurant, using a restroom, or anything else. There are lots of options for working out, including machines, classes, and there's even an area for working. The only drawback I had were the lockers, but it's totally my fault. There are signs in the locker room explaining how to work them. But being a typical guy, I didn't read them. I finally figured it out. There are two people who deserve lots of kudos: the first being Madeleine S., Membership Representative. She is an awesome communicator. We emailed several times getting me set up with the promotion, and she explained everything that would be going on for that week. She even called me to check in to see how things were going. The other person I want to recognize is Nick S., Personal Trainer. Madeleine had introduced me to Nick for my free session, and Nick called me to set up a time to work with him. This was my first time ever working out with a personal trainer, so Nick was patient explaining the process. He took time to get to know me, my health, and what I wanted to get out of the session. I told Nick I walk 5-7 miles every day, but really didn't know how to work out so that I could tone up my arms and love handles. Nick showed me what I could do at the Club or at my apartment's workout room so I could workout without hurting myself (a concern I've had about working out on my own). I really enjoyed working out with Nick's help, so I asked him about continuing working out with him. He walked me over to speak with Madeleine, and we found a good membership option for me so that I could continue going to the gym. Then I worked with Nick to get a plan in place so I could keep working out with him. Both Madeleine and Nick were so professional and made me feel comfortable. There was no pressure to sign a contract for a membership or working with a personal trainer. Sure, you can probably find places that cost less, but for me, the outstanding customer service as well as the state-of-the art facility make it totally worth it for me. It also helps that the Colorado Athletic Club is a 13-minute walk from where I live. It's convenient and Nick is helping me keep motivated to work out. Do yourself a favor: you all will be thinking about a New Year's Resolution in a few weeks, as well as gifts for the holidays. Start early and beat the rush. Start working out now if you're not. And why not ask for a gym membership this year. Because, do you really need another pair of shoes?

WOW! Great feedback, Tim! We appreciate everything you said and will get your feedback over to Nic. thanks!

Fantastic experience: I had a friendly patron ask for a "little tickle" in the steam room. I almost choked from the overpowering smell of mint, and the request. Sean McIntyre 6 years ago

Negative experience: Coming up on 2 years here and I don't think I can last much longer. Staff is great but it ends there. Men's locker room is gross. Mud in the shower. Showers broken for the better part of a year, to the point where there are lines to shower during peak hours. Frequently no towels. Harsh chemical smell or straight mildew scent from the steam room. The "sauna" only gets to 120 degrees F, a full 60 degrees below it's useful range. Really hard to see what I'm spending over a hundred a month on here. Save your money

Colorado Athletic Club DTC

Sean,
We apologize that you are not experiencing the quality of service we strive to deliver. We appreciate the feedback and will work hard to improve. We would like to hear more details, if you have a spare minute to reach out to our General Manager. Thank you!

Fantastic experience: Always clean any the equipment is great. Clean locker rooms and a good clientele. It definitely an excellent gym. It's not 24.

Rachel W 7 years ago

Fantastic experience: This is the best gym I've been to! It is very clean and has lots of exercise equipment to choose from. I typically go at peak hours and have never had to wait for any machines, unlike other gyms. The staff are all very friendly, including the instructors for the classes. Once again, I'll emphasize the club is very CLEAN including the locker rooms. GREAT GYM!!

Christopher Papetti 7 years ago

Fantastic experience: I love this place! I've been a member here for a few months now and it's like a second home already. Rachel Milhoan (GM) and Emily Schell (Member Service Rep) are so helpful whenever I have requests or need to upgrade my membership and the personal trainers are the nicest (thanks Anna!)! I joined with the intent to focus on the free weights and power rack but I couldn't resist joining some of the free yoga classes too.

Andrew Zapotosky 7 years ago

Negative experience: If you are between the ages of 55 and 65 this is the gym for you. The typical clientele would appear to be retired and trying desperately to look as though they are back in high school. The locker room is old and moldy, in fact I once saw someone had decided to use the shower as a toilet, no it was not a number 1. The only reason the gym was worth going to, was the fact that there was a basketball court and the guys that played there were all good friends. So the general manager decided to remove that all together. Over the years they never kept the court clean and were reluctant to replace the old basketballs for fear they would be stolen. They rented the court out to non-member groups frequently so the guys did not get to play as much as we would have liked. In my time here as a member I never felt like management cared about its members and catered to a much older crowd. (I’m in my forties BTW) I’ve asked them to improve the conditions of the facility multiple times and even grabbed a broom and did some cleaning myself. All and all, most of the staff are friendly and worked hard but for what I pay in membership dues I did not receive in value. Other CAC clubs are much better, such as Inverness (if you have a family) or Tabor Center downtown. If you are looking for a nice gym in the DTC area and willing to pay a premium this is not the gym for you.

Jessica Jones 7 years ago

Negative experience: They only maintenance their machines upon member complaints! Most machines do not work smoothly. Was given attitude when I brought it up to the manager. Canceling asap.

Colorado Athletic Club DTC

Jessica,
We apologize for any misunderstanding, as our Regional Equipment Team performs weekly maintenance on our equipment. When necessary, repairs and tune-ups are quickly made. It seems you have only tried out the club one time. We invite you back in to give it another shot! We can assure you won’t be disappointed!

Patrick Naulty 7 years ago

Negative experience: I had been a member here for 10 plus years but this is my last month at the gym. The gym has great yoga & spin studios and a nice basketball court. The weight equipment is pretty standard, nothing special. There are a lot of cardio machines, ranging from old to new. The locker rooms leave a lot to be desired compared to other premium gyms. 80% of the time there is a strong chemical smell that makes me nauseous. There has been a shower stall out of order for at least 7 months and the steam room is in desperate need of upgrading as it has stains and smells that never come clean. The customer service has been up and down and the people are mostly pretty nice but has consistently been going downhill. As an example when I called requesting a cancellation, I had to call three times and had to leave three messages before I was finally emailed the form. I was also surprised there was no effort to keep me as a client, instead an email sent by a manager with no message, only an attachment. The biggest reason I am quitting and the reason for the 2 star is the rates continue to rise even though there have been no improvement to the locker rooms in all the years i have been a member and very little improvement to the gym. There seems to be no justification for the rising rates. The gym is a small step up (towel Service, shampoo/conditioner/soap provided) from a national chain gym but costs nearly 5 times as much.I was able to join a much nicer premium competitor gym for $25 less each month than the CAC DTC charges.

Fantastic experience: I've belonged to many different gyms over the years. This is by far the best and my favorite. It starts at the top with Rachel the GM and trickles down to every member of the staff. Each time you go in you are greeted with a hello, a smile, and pleasant conversation. What is very impressive to me is several times a year they throw Client Appreciation Parties. They spare no expense and see to it that every client enjoys themselves. I've never personally experienced such events at other gyms. Finally, if you are looking for a personal trainer, look no further. While all of them are great, my personal experience with Mona was nothing short of phenomenal. I would highly recommend her and this gym to anyone that asks.

James Andrews 8 years ago

Positive experience: My wife signed us up for CAC and I am very impressed. It's not anywhere close to Lifetime but for the price, it's awesome.

Michael Johnsen 8 years ago

Fantastic experience: Price of the gym keeps it from getting too busy (except new year's resolution people) and a bunch of amenities like free group classes. Machines are always working.

Jesse 8 years ago

Negative experience: If you’re looking for a good gym that keeps their machines and weight room working and in good condition this is NOT the place. Not only have I had to personally report broken things I’ve had to report it to multiple people in order for them to do anything about it. They are lacking in customer service and over all service. They will do everything to get you to join but once your a member forget any customer service beyond that. Their employees don’t know what they’re doing and the general manger doesn’t own up to her own employees mistakes. Broken wires that can cut you, no towels available, torn apart ropes, and all of this for only $80+ a month.

Fun Girl 8 years ago

Negative experience: The sales team will lie to you about the cancellation process to get you to sign up. Apparently it's okay for them to pro-rate your membership when you join, but not when you cancel. And heaven forbid the sales or management team try to work with you to get things straightened out.

Daniel Naglowsky 8 years ago

Negative experience: The customer service and the management team is clearly unprofessional and not trustworthy. When I signed a "12 Month" commitment last year in June, I was informed that I had the possibility to execute an early-termination if I provide at least 30 days in advance and pay the following month's membership fee. Fast forward to February of this year, I went in and signed a cancellation notice and was informed that my membership would be canceled and the following month's (March) membership fee will have to be paid. As of today, I have been charged the full membership fee for the past three months. I have contacted the Wellbridge company and they have informed me that it was not possible to do an early cancellation, even though the membership coordinator at the fitness center and the Wellbridge website have all stated that it was indeed possible. Here is the cancellation verbiage that can be found on the Wellbrige website: "In order to provide you with a complete service in termination and protect your signature's security, we require that all termination requests be provided, in person, at the Club...". Do not sign up for the membership if you do not plan on going to the gym for the full 12 months and due to the poor customer service.

Shauna Eldridge 9 years ago

Positive experience: Love this gym, but the rates can be a bit much.

Megan H. Vogt 9 years ago

Positive experience: I used to go to 24 Hour Fitness, and it was madness trying to squeeze into their classes. The Colorado Athletic Club offers a lot more breathing room and a large selection of classes throughout the day. I also appreciate that the pool is always warm! The showers could use a remodel, however the locker rooms are beautiful and well-equipped.

Ken Posen 9 years ago

Fantastic experience: I've been a member for over 15 years and can't think of going anywhere else. The staff is always friendly, great classes and great equipment. I've checked out other clubs and have not been satisfied. Remember, you get what you pay for. Yes, CAC is more expensive than 24 or Planet Fitness but you are paying for a full service club with CAC. Keep in mind they also have multiple locations in the Denver/Boulder area.

Amanda Jefferies 10 years ago

Negative experience: I was a member of this gym for almost a year. The atmosphere was terrible. The staff were really rude, non of the trainers ever smiled and made you feel welcome, I felt incredibly judged by the staff while working out. This place has a beautiful basketball court and that was one of the selling points for me. Except I was hardly ever able to use this due to it always being filled with local club youth teams practicing in the gym. The classes were intimidating to go to because the staff would make you feel really awkward if you asked about time/location of the group class. I have a really busy work schedule and my hours don't fit well with this gym. I called to try and cancel my membership as I could not find time to go in and cancel. They refused to allow me to cancel over the phone. Finally when I went in to cancel they didn't even ask my why I was leaving and stated it would have to pay one more month of my membership. For the amount of money they charge per month for you to go here it is not worth it. I will gladly take my service elsewhere.

Benjamin Flocka 10 years ago

Negative experience: Do NOT go to this place. Over this past weekend, a few of my friends got together to play basketball at this location. A friend recommended the place and it was very close to my home so I decided to suggest it to my friends. I looked on the website and it offered a free 3 day trail for first time guests. None of us had ever been there before so we didn't think it would be a problem. The website did not state anything regarding limits or groups. Upon our arrival, we were asked to sign it for a tour. A manager by the name of Stephanie or Stacy (I believe) came out to speak with us. She informed us that we could not use the facilities without paying a $15 guest fee for each person. This came as quite a shock as the website said they offered a "Free" 3 day trail. I went on to explain this to her and showed her the site. She then informed us that in order for the "Free" 3 days trail to work, we would have to know a current member. Once again, something that was not mentioned on the website. She stated that they usually don't allow non members because current members would be disturbed. Not sure why this would be our problem as we could be potential members. The manager could not come up with a valid excuse for their false advertisement and actually had the nerve to say the rules are "somewhere in the fine print". This helpful/insightful answer prompted me to show her the site again, where the only requirement was to be a first time guest. After several minutes of debating, they were unwilling to budge so we decided to go somewhere else. I will NEVER come to this place again. From the false advertisement to the way the manager was unwilling to honor their website puts a sour taste in my mouth everytime I think about this place. I should not have to know a member before I try a "Free" 3 day trail. Even if, this should have been mentioned on the website. The $15 guest fee was not a big deal but the way we were treated really stuck out to me. I will reiterate my previous statement. Do NOT go to this place, unless you've already made the mistake of becoming a member. This seems like the type of place to give you a low Intro membership rate, hike up the price in a few months and when confronted, they provide the fabulous response of "it's somewhere in the fine print".

Rachel Price 10 years ago

Negative experience: DO NOT SIGN UP HERE! Unless you want to pay way too much for short hours, crowded parking lots, and bad service. I wrote my notice, gave it to corey, to end my membership and they still charged me after my end date. Corey and Zach are untrustworthy. Zach made me pay way too much. His discount was 1 dollar off. Beautiful gym. Terrible terrible service and atmosphere.
