West Suburban YMCA: Opinions
Negative experience: The West Suburban YMCA location has a very strong scent of urine and gas leaks in their locker room everyday. It's also very cold in the fitness center, weight room, and pickleball courts. If you decide to join this gym be sure to invest in nose plugs and many layers of clothes, including winter hats. Solutions for the YMCA staff is to make deep cleaning a priority and set the thermostat higher during the winter! Pretty easy fix. I say Management is responsible for the shortcomings of the quality of this gym, because it starts from the top! Please do better!
Fantastic experience: super cute YMCA. they accept Nationwide. just look at this squat machine! I've never seen anything like it, and it will tear you up (in a good way)!
Negative experience: Giving this place 1 star is honestly generous. The courts are never EVER open. Even if you call and ask they will say it is and you get there it’s completely closed and they make up some bogus reason, stop being lazy if there’s nothing going on the courts should be open. Not to mention how rude some of the front desk workers are. This place is absolutely ridiculous I don’t ever recommend getting a membership you will never be able to use half of the amenities.
Thank you for sharing your feedback. We’re sorry to hear about your experience, and we understand how frustrating it can be when amenities aren’t available as expected.
We would like to learn more about what happened so we can address your concerns about court availability and staff interactions. We encourage you to call our Membership Director at 414-454-4645 so we can discuss this further.
Negative experience: This ymca doesn't care about the members, I had my membership suspended for saying something to a lifeguard that was verbally abusing me in the pool ,bottom line is they're always right and the member is always wrong...
Thank you for sharing your feedback. We take all member concerns seriously and encourage you to continue the conversation with us directly so we can discuss your experience further.
Fantastic experience: The summer camp program The Y provides is great. They allow early drop off and late pick up for working parents. The camp counselors are nice and engage the children. Keeping the kids outdoors and away from screens is wonderful. Management is easy to reach if there is anything to talk through. This Y has a pool so the kids go swimming most days. They have field trips once a week. They have an air conditioned gym if the weather is too hot or rainy. They were good to my family and I recommend this summer camp.
We're happy to hear you and your family had a fantastic experience this summer! We hope to see you again soon!
Negative experience: Worst ymca I have ever been to, the gym is never open and there is nothing ever going on. Laziest workers on the planet
Thank you for sharing your feedback, Alex. We value our members and we’re sorry to hear you've had a negative experience at our facility. For our program and class schedules, please visit www.gwcymca.org. If you'd like to express your concerns further or ask any questions about our offerings, please reach out to our business desk at 414-302-9622.
Negative experience: The summer camp at this location is very disorganized. I sent my kids for the last two weeks and they have been begging me to let them stay home. I've never had a worse experience with the directors at the camp being rude to my kids and unprofessional when spoken to.
Hi Bobby, thank you for sharing your feedback. We’re so sorry that our summer day camp has not met your expectations. If you’d like to speak further about your concerns, please contact Christine at 414-454-4629.
Fantastic experience: Nice
Thank you for the positive feedback, Danielle!
Negative experience: Thinking of sending your littles to summer camp? If they love spending all day outside in the hot summer sun and free for all play with little to no supervision then yes this is great for them. For everyone else that wants organized play, learning new things and indoor shelter for their littles then this is not the place for them.
Thank you for your feedback. If you'd like to speak further about your concerns, please contact our Day Camp Operations Director at 414-454-4629. Thank you!
Negative experience: Cavernous mens locker room that looks like it was previously a corporate conference room circa 1980’s in its taupe brownish color scheme. The weight rooms look like a 3rd world country warehouse retrofit. Was unimpressed. Southwest YMCA is clearly the best in the area
Fantastic experience: Moved from Fox Cities to Brookfield and became a member here. Amazing facility and staff. The YMCA is an excellent organization that truly cares for their members and wants to give back to the community.
Fantastic experience: Great facility! The gym is nice and clean. The swim instructors are wonderful! The child watch/parents night out is great too!
Fantastic experience: This is my "Y away from home" when I am visiting from Massachusetts ❤️ the staff are very friendly and helpful, and there is plenty of equipment. I haven't used the pool, but it looks clean; the women's locker room is large and tidy.
Fantastic experience: I can’t speak on the facilities since I haven’t been to the gym yet, but I can say that Wilma was beyond helpful in answering my questions and giving me instructions on how to apply for a membership! Wilma deserves a raise!!
Negative experience: Before the remodel the track was located above the basketball court which was very nice and private and the weight room was much larger and more space to move around. Now the weight room is very small and no space and the track is now on the main floor which is sort of not private anymore. I loved the old YMCA WAY BETTER! Here is my update for 2018. I just signed up again and going to give it another try. Me and my wife decided to bring are kids but sadly we went at the wrong time not knowing open gum was at 7pm that day so my little one was very bored so I decided to run on the treadmill while he walked on the one next to me. My son is 7 years old and since I was near him I thought he was doing a good job just walking on it but then here comes one of the YMCA staff and tells my son sorry but your to young to be on the treadmill your going to have to get off...After that he was sad and bored and kept doing what all little kids would do when bored complain to go home, So are first day for him there sucked. The free weight room downstairs is meh small and they need to add an extra mirror. Upstairs is very nice but the track I wish was somewhere else because it just is strange being in a place with people coming and going so I decided to just use the treadmill since you dont have to worry about people in your way. I give the YMCA 3 stars . Open gym and swimming is nice to have. Cons It is a little expensive for not being open 24 hours and the weight room is downstairs and very small but All in All it is still a nice gym and very people friendly.Update everytime I go to the Gym every station on the tv has news and politics. Can we just keep politics off the air please. Put on something else like sports or movies please no politics they are also becoming to lenient and allowing rude behavior plus people farting on treadmill as I'm on the elliptical behind them makes you just leave and not finish your workout....Men’s locker rooms the lockers themselves there are some Nasty ones black mold in the lockers smh pee on the floor in the bathroom and I’m stepping on it …update/ 03/07/2024 Working out yesterday at 8 PM. Some random kid in a hoodie young black man Was throwing weights around, picked up 225 pounds slammed it on the bench and bent the bar.. He proceeded to the next room, throwing weight in there also while smiling evil at my son I was there. You need to put cameras in the weight rooms in the hallways. For the safety of the people that pay to work out YMCA has been slacking…. Hate to say it but it’s true. Update front desk older white lady yelling at everyone 2 mins before close. As I’m walking to the men’s locker room to get my things to leave she’s there standing and yelling YOU GUYS GOT 2 MINUTES then as im trying to walk around her she looks at me and raises her voice YOU HAVE 2 MINUTES… like I didn’t hear her yelling 2 minutes upstairs and she’s acting rude. For one she didn’t have to go around the whole building yelling two minutes instead of doing that use the intercom and be nice and say YMCA is closing in around five minutes thank you for visiting YMCA and remember to leave accordingly instead of going around yelling at people in their face. Lifetime Fitness , they’re a lot more respectful to people when they’re leaving as they do it over the intercom. This lady was rude. Also removing the wallball room is a stupid idea Why would you wanna lose people who go to YMCA to enjoy that sport? Why not just relocated somewhere else and build it somewhere else around the building? What a horrible move by the managers of YMCA
Negative experience: I have a valid membership but because i didn't get it at this location. Seems like they don't like outside memebers. After I scan membership card i was questioned about my identity so i ask why do i have to identify and confirm my name? Was told that if i didnt i would be ask to leave. I guess outside membership needs verification but home members dont get questioned.
Negative experience: Every time I visit this particular YMCA location. It’s not a moment while checking into child watch at the front desk. The lady Megan gives me a difficult time. There has been several occasions I can recall Megan misleading and deceptive behavior towards me. It was not until last week Friday morning, Megan was checking my child in at the front desk for child watch. Here go Megan again saying the same line to me every time “ child watch closes at noon today”. We both know child watch days/hours Monday- Friday 8am-1pm. Long story short, I explain to Megan child watch closes at 1pm today. It took for another employee to explain to Megan” everyone knows child watch closes at 1pm today”. Megan did not like the fact she was again misleading. Instead Megan disrespected me by tossing my identification card onto the floor. If this is the type of behavior that is acceptable at the YMCA. Then I can take my business somewhere else. People visit the gym to take care of their physical and mental health. I don’t need to deal with disrespectful, aggressive, misleading behavior from no one. I won’t visit this particular YMCA never again. I take full pride in my peace and happiness.
Fantastic experience: Best YMCA I have visited so far. Friendly staff, excellent layout, and equipment was in good shape. Great free weight rooms.
Fantastic experience: The Wrap Care Summer camp in Elmbrook is incredible. Christine has done an amazing job at running this program. My daughter Chloe loves going to camp. The counselors make her feel so welcome and they have fun activities for her to participate in. This is my second child that has used this camp and again has really enjoyed it. The best part is my older son Owen loved doing bracelets, and more sedentary activities, and my daughter is playing 4-square and soccer and other very active activities. This camp is great for ALL CHILDREN. I highly recommend this camp!
Fantastic experience: Our family has been coming to the West Suburban Y for over 14 years. It is the one place where no matter how long you're away, it always feels like home when you come back. The Y is our happy place. Where we can enjoy the fun of a great family swim. Or the reconnection to mind and body through zumba or weight lifting. We have watched our kids grow from needing child watch, to working out on their own and meeting their personal health goals. It is the most safe and wholesome place in our community! And in these times, we hold tight to that comfort and joy for our family and neighbors.
Thank you for sharing, Angie! We are so happy to hear that you and your family have had such a positive experience with the Y!
Fantastic experience: Love this location nice atmosphere friendly staff
Thank you for the 5 stars and for taking the time to write a review!
Negative experience: By far one of the worst organizations the memberships aren’t nationwide can’t even go to a different city and play basketball unless you have a membership for that location do not get a membership boys and girls clubs are better at this point!!
Fantastic experience: We participated the School Out Fun Day and Y base programs. The schedule is filled with the Dixon school and our working schedule. Staff put safety the priority. It’s a trust place to put your kids after school.
Thank you for the review! We are happy to hear that you are enjoying our Y BASE and School's Fun Day programs!
Fantastic experience: Nice and clean! The best weight room ever! Has all the equipment I need to do my workouts.
Fantastic experience: Great facilities, Friendly people
Thank you, James!
Fantastic experience: Great place. Great people. Best ymca in Milwaukee! And although some are closed down, this one beats them all past or present.
Thank you for the 5 star review, Douglas!
Positive experience: I love this facility! All the staff are awesome. I love classes for workouts and they have whatever you need!
Negative experience: i go to the gym in the morning before work, and after work in the evening with my kids. mornings its decent, but in the evenings. theres towels, garbage, and other discarded items on the ground. especially in the mens locker room and showers. its not even a gym, its a cafeteria. food everywhere and garbage. its unbelievably ghetto. you can smell the urine aroma a mile away from the bathroom itself. and if you want to use the bathroom, the floor is so sticky with urine and the smell is enough to burn your nose hairs right off. not to mention the smell in locker room (mens) already smells like sweat and dirty socks and old shoes. its like throughout the day, they dont pay attention to it, and those who go in the evenings suffer for it. the family room changing area for my kids have big wholes in the walls. i just dont know if maintenance cares at all around there. i will cancel my membership. this ymca, in the evenings, can be a tourist attraction for just how ghetto, nasty, and smelly a building can be. i dont underastand how mornings its clean, but they dont have cleaners in day? like cmon, pick up the garbage, and clean the bathrooms. they are so bad you cant even use them without holding your breath. what a shame, should be clean all times of the day, not just morning.
Fantastic experience: My child loves Ybase and its conveniently located inside the school.
Fantastic experience: It's a really clean place and the people who work there really are nice and they are also really helpful and so I will keep coming to this one all the time. The lifeguards there are super good and really nice to talk to. The pools and the hot tub are kept really nice and clean.
Fantastic experience: Clean. Friendly. Plenty of equipment.
Fantastic experience: You meet Great people here. It's like a Social Club where you work out and feel real good about yourself. I love it.
Fantastic experience: Love the classes, cleanliness of the facility, childwatch, and the great staff!
Thank you so much for taking the time to share your review, Michelle!
Fantastic experience: Since I'm over 50 I thought I would never learn how to swim. The swim instructors are great especially Joann. When I first started swim lessons it was to get over a fear and to be able to enjoy the water while being safe but I learned so much more than that. I can now enjoy the deep and swim in the middle lane with no fear.
Thank you for sharing your experience, Natalie! We're so happy to hear that we could be part of the progress you've made learning to swim!
Fantastic experience: The instructors are amazing! They really care about the kids and make learning fun. The programs are geared to each age group's interest and ability. The facilities are fantastic. The locker rooms are clean and well organized, even the family one!
Thank you for taking the time to write a review, Emily! We are so happy to happy to hear that you are enjoying the facility and programs at the Y!
Negative experience: Gave up my West Suburban YMCA membership tonight after learning to swim there as a child and teach for more than 15 yeqrs as an adult. Lots of friends made and a huge community lost with the covid employee policies during "lockdown." My family were members (and employees) since WS opened. Staff fluctuations, lack of activity for tweens have made a family space fun. I sincerely hope other families are able as we once were able!
Fantastic experience: Affordable rates and teachers are very good.
Fantastic experience: Amazing swim lessons program! We went to another swim school for over a year with no progress with our daughter. After 1 session (8 weeks), she is so confident now! Easily jumps in, goes underwater and is excited to swim. None of this was possible before.
Fantastic experience: Loved the tour, awesome place to stay active and the staff is super friendly!!!
Negative experience: I cannot in good conscience recommend the summer camps to any parent. Very poor experience, and no response at all on request. Repeatedly dodge calls and emails
Negative experience: Staffed by some of the oldest and crustiest people you’ll ever meet. The gym itself is lacking in too many ways to list, strongly discourage from visiting.
We're sorry to hear that your experience did not meet your expectations. If you would like to share more specific feedback about your experience, please contact our Membership Director at [email protected]
Negative experience: This place has really gone down over the years. No impactful updates or upgrades for the monthly price. Locker rooms smell awful and staff can be inconsistent with information. Parking lot is not secured so park at your own risk! If anything happens to your vehicle it’s all on the owner! Swim classes are ran by young inexperienced people. Just a disappointing experience overall!
Thank you for taking to time to write a review and thank you for your feedback. We'd like to hear more about your experience and invite you to reach out to our Membership Director, Wilma, at [email protected] to share more details about your experience with us.
Fantastic experience: I swim with my grandson and he's in swim classes. They have a great aquatics program.
Thank you so much for the review, Jim!
Positive experience: It is my go to gym and swim. I would really appreciate if they would restart Zumba Gold.
Fantastic experience: Great place to workout. Instructors for AOA are very knowledgeable and make classes very enjoyable.
Fantastic experience: Needed to give the front desk crew and the child watch crew here a shout out. We joined in the winter and they have been so nice to my family and me. Helps me to have good workouts knowing that the kids are in good hands too. Great place, great staff!
Fantastic experience: I like it but i lost my card so i dont know if i can still go can i?
Negative experience: Never go to them they have some staff members that are very racist disrespectful and rude they are overly charged. Your better off keeping your money in your pocket and putting your kids somewhere where they’ll be treated with respect no matter what their race or age is.
Negative experience: I wish I could give (-4 )star. these guys are crooks and shysters. avoid them. Avoid them, They provide Fraudulent saying about recurring payments . what they tell you on first day was clearly They your membership is for 1 month only. Then they continue to charge you for the next 6 month despite you cancelled membership and you never showed after first month. When You call them you can never get to supervisor Katy and who ever under that just reads the statement although they know what they did to you and many others. looks that they don't like some accents either for some reasons.
Negative experience: The men's locker room is one of the dirtiest and smelliest of all Milwaukee & Waukesha county. They win first place for that. I wish they would pay some people to actually clean or fire whoever is supposed to be doing that job.
Negative experience: Reasonable facility, but just about over paying 100 bucks a month just so I can pack my kid back into the car because the pool is closed again during regular hours. Went to 2 seperate locations today just to load a brokenhearted toddler back in the car. Good deal.
Fantastic experience: Love this gym... nice ppl
Fantastic experience: My favorite y
Fantastic experience: Friendly, new lockers and shower rooms, heated small pool. I aM thankful for every day I am able to be there. Bright energ etic atmosphere.
Fantastic experience: This is the best location in my opinion. I have been to several! My wife is an employee at another branch and we both worked at this location some years back before the remodel in 2009 or so. I love the amount of space, options, and overall layout of this site. Great location.
Fantastic experience: Very fun when i played basketball
Thank you for the review!
Fantastic experience: I go to classes at this location several times a week. The classes are excellent, with energetic and professional instructors providing top level workouts.
Fantastic experience: Lots of variety of activities, exercise equipment and classes for all ability levels.
Thank you for the 5 stars, Amy!
Positive experience: The Y-Base program is definitely scattershot and just adults being paid to be in the same room as your child,to meet the legal technicality, bare minimum. Also, very concerned with CYA,first and foremost. The director of the program is an ill fit, and the staff means well, but they’re glorified baby sitters, and nothing more. Was better than nothing (just barely),but luckily,we have since secured much better child care.
Fantastic experience: Overall a great gym. This was my very first gym about 8 years ago, where I got a membership just for the summer before college. Here I am 8 years later, moved back to Milwaukee, and decided to make this my home gym again. Other gyms I've used in the area are Planet Fitness and Gold's Gym. This place is very clean, and very quiet. The gym has more cardio equipment than weights, so if your focus is on weights you might get frustrated with the lack of room/equipment. I do wish they would get at least one more weight bench; I think they only have like 2 that go all the way down so if you go at a busier time, they're always in use. Staff is friendly and everything seems well maintained. No machines sitting broken for days on end.
Fantastic experience: A welcoming community that has everything you need to meet your goals.
Thank you for the review, Jenna!
Fantastic experience: Great location and the staff is great as well.
Fantastic experience: The swim classes for toddlers are great and the instructors are wonderful.
Thank you for the review, Lucia!
Fantastic experience: Very happy with my workouts. I only use the equipment on the main floor, not the free weights downstairs. Staff are very friendly. The building is over 50 years old but is well maintained.
Thank you for the review, John! We're happy to hear you are enjoying the Y!
Fantastic experience: Love the YMCA, been going there for about 40 years. I started out when the central branch was downtown Milwaukee on Wisconsin Avenue, it was a life changing experience for me, and I continue to visit the West Suburban Branch. I have been a life guard and made many friends here, and acquaintances, lots of great talks with fellow life guards!
Thank you for being such a loyal member, Ed! We appreciate you staying with us.
Negative experience: Old outdated Equipment - very small free weight floor and the whole place smells lke chlorine from the pool. People dont clean the machine after using machines
We're sorry to hear that you did not enjoy your experience at the West Suburban YMCA. Your feedback is important, so if you'd like to discuss your experience or what we can do to improve, please contact our Membership Director, Wilma Luger, at [email protected].
Fantastic experience: The staff is wonderful. The programs are age appropriate for children. The teachers are great with kids. The facility is very clean and well-maintained.
Negative experience: I went with a friend to play basketball as he had a guest pass, and was surprised by the rudeness of the guest services employee. Nice facility with a clean environment, but service and first impressions are important… Would rather spend my money to be a member of the WAC.
Negative experience: WARNING: ONLY YMCA in the country we have ever seen to Charge extra for childwatch. Been qll over the country and this is a first. Took over a half hour wasting our time and take more money. Nice and clean and friendly. Down a star because I could not find any squat racks or bench rach. Looks like preloaded machines and cardio floor. But the free weights area is teeny tiny. Really cool little private workout room in the womens bathroom tho. Thought that was neat.
Fantastic experience: I have a good time working out with several friends I have made since I joined. It makes you work a little longer & harder. Also have made friends with the some of the staff.
Fantastic experience: The staff make us feel like family.
Positive experience: The only draw-back is that they could use 1 more bathroom. Other than that I visit the Y 3-4 times a week, great atmosphere.
Fantastic experience: COVID safety practices are definitely in place!!! Hats off to the staff for the friendly reminders to Y members as they walk through the door!! My safety thanks you!
Thank you for your review!
Fantastic experience: Joined this gym January 2021 and I’m enjoying the YMCA experience. Very friendly staff and the facilities are all well kept and clean.
Fantastic experience: Love the running and biking machines, CNBC while I excercise, the friendly staff, and the sauna!
Thank you for your review, John!
Fantastic experience: Wonderful if you use it. Built in 1971 it is pretty standard but offers all the usual equipment. Staff are friendly and helpful. Opens at 5 am weekdays. Hope to see you there ..!!......
Thank you for your review!
Negative experience: This place is beyond disgusting. The locker room was trashed with litter and towels everywhere. There was a stench coming from the carpet. Hoodlums were sitting around and eating. It’s a down right joke. I only saw one employee the whole time I was there. Literally one employee running the entire place. I see why other gyms are flourishing. The Ys are become a thing of the past and with good reason
Negative experience: They still won't accept members from other YMCAs because...wait for it...covid. BUT, they allow the use of guest passes. What kind of a joke is this? It's July 2021, guys. Pandemic is over. Let it go.
Positive experience: Pretty good gym all around. The courts can be very crowded though
Thanks for the review, Myles!
Positive experience: Over the course of about 3 years I really enjoyed the facility and the fact that they had updated equipment. I also had great experiences with the instructors of the classes. The only reason I would give a 3 star review instead of a 5 is because of the front office staff. They have a couple very nice employees who are easy to work with but there are others who are not as customer oriented. Bringing a guest seemed to be the biggest inconvenience for them. Every guest who I brought commented on how rude and unwelcoming the staff was. Not to say all the staff is like this as I have again had very pleasant experiences, but a handful really made it difficult for guests. I understand too that the employees are following corporate rules, but at the same time they are unwilling to be understanding in any way to the customer as if I am out to rip off the Y in some way. Overall, great place to work out if you can just get past the front desk!
Thank you for letting us know, Collin. Customer service is very important to us and we want everyone to feel welcome at the Y. Our Membership Director, Mike Jakubowski, will be reaching out so that we can personally address your concerns.
Negative experience: My complaint is not with any of the staff and I am fully aware that it is a corporate issue. Here’s what happened. It’s Covid and my kids yearned to get in an activity, I’ve been hesitant bc I care for a survivor of Covid, yet I proceeded to sign my family up. I terminated my membership because all the programs my children would be interested in are all closed or have a waiting list. My children nor I have stepped foot in the Y to even walk through the doors after I setup the membership. Yet the company feels that should grant them $86? Hope that money goes towards a child to participate in a youth sport or something! Smh
Fantastic experience: Joined this gym January 2021 and I’m enjoying the YMCA experience. Very friendly staff and the facilities are all well kept and clean.
Thank you for your review, Matt. We are happy to hear you are enjoying your experience!
Fantastic experience: I love this place... Never had any issues... Staff friendly ..... Clean.... Thanks for a great job....
We appreciate the great review. Thanks so much!
Fantastic experience: The facility is accessible, and the staff is very friendly.
Thank you for your 5 star review!
Fantastic experience: Great place, with flexible timing.
Thank you for your review, Niaz!
Fantastic experience: Please re-open as soon as possible, West Suburban YMCA. A first-class gym with friendly and very knowledgeable staff. I miss my YMCA SO MUCH! Thank you!
Hi Ogden, Thank you for your review! We will be opening our West Suburban branch on Friday, May 22 at 6am. Welcome back!
Negative experience: Held a family membership for 7 years. The customer service just deteriorated over those years. Those in charge shouldn’t be, and have no idea how to manage anything. The final straw for me, was to watch one the the male staff members repeatedly harassed one of my children to a point where it was sexual and when we reported it they simply turned a deaf ear. Definitely will cancelling our membership and not returning.
We are so sorry to hear about your experience. Parents should absolutely feel that their children are receiving the highest level of care possible and we take allegations of this nature very seriously. We appreciate your feedback and would like to speak further with you about your concerns, please contact Katy Groh at 414-454-4631 or [email protected].
Negative experience: 10/18/20 Update. Its been a year since I was here. Last time I couldn't come in because I forgot my ymca card even though I had a valid driver's license and a picture on file taken by this ymca. With no option to verify anything. I decided to come today since the brown deer location is closed on Sundays. HAD MY CARD THIS TIME. Trying to keep my momentum going on my path to health and wellness. NOTHING HAS CHANGED. I was told I couldn't come in since I didn't have a membership in Waukesha County during covid. If you have a ymca membership, you should be able to attend any YMCA period. This policy is disparate treatment impacting a certain demographic and socio-economic status. My family grew up going to the ymca to make sure we didn't fall to the perils of street violence. This was a safe haven for all of us. Discovered great talent and excelled in organized sports due to the influence the YMCA had on our lives. Who knew the YMCA would become a modern country club where Jim crow is legalized through the masking of a zip code. I can't workout because I didnt open my original membership in waukesha County. If you have a Kohl's charge can you imagine if they said you can only shop at the store you opened your card? They are now using Covid to try to further their cause in eliminating and turning away certain demographics. Original review 2019: Very much an elitist gym now. If you dont live in the suburb you are limited on how many times you can come. Most YMCA, allow anyone with a membership to go to any location. I forgot my ymca card but had my drivers license. They would not allow me to enter. Huh??? No option to verify anything. I even had my picture taken on file at this location. Prior to this I had been going there for years. My son went to their camp each year etc. They pretty much let you know and make you feel unwelcome if you dont "live" in tosa. They swipe your card and look at your account for 2 minutes if your brown skin to see details. Everyone else they swipe and they dont even look at the screen they just go. Again an Elitist gym now.
We're sorry to hear that you did not enjoy your experience at the West Suburban YMCA. Your feedback is important, so if you'd like to discuss your experience or what we can do to improve, please contact our Membership Director, Liz Baird, at [email protected] or 414.454.4635.
Negative experience: Wonderful until it wasn't... As a family member for 6 years I was proud to be associated with an organization that built up the community. I stomached the inconveniences like crowded classes and spaces because we believe in the mission. We were happy with the camps and childcare. I didn't realize how fragile it all was until we were moving away. Almost a year before we left, I suffered an injury that kept me from working out, but I maintained my kit locker always planning to return. Because we were moving, I went I to cancel our membership and clean out my locker on March 17, just before the state closed down for the pandemic. Imagine my shock to find it empty. I spoke with Katrina Leonard, the manager who told me they were going to be doing a deep cleaning and would let me know what they found. My membership expired on April 30th. On May first, I finally heard back from Katrina who told me that: "We did not find your items during our deep clean. Typically in this situation, we would offer system credits for missing items. However, since you are no longer a member we are unable to offer this. Also, we are unable to offer refunds." TL;DR: They took my stuff from my locker that I was paying for, and told me the day after my membership expired that since I am not a member I have no recourse. So disappointed.
Negative experience: Head of maintenance seems to think he knows more than God himself--has visions of grandeur and can not figure out how to keep a steam room running properly. Who hires these incompetent and "bankrupt" sorts?
Negative experience: The worst ymca I been too so sad this places should be for anybody and everybody. It shouldn’t matter what ymca you from you should be able to go their and have fun. This ymca really deserves no star.An anyone that change their ymca or looking for one this is not the right places.

Fantastic experience: Great location.
Fantastic experience: If I am allowed to go to the NBA, it started here. I'm going to build them a gym that looks like the Viserv Forum. We are going to get there together.

Thank you for your review, Pat!
Negative experience: This is my two boys first year going to summer camp and it has been my worse summer yet. My 4 year old normally attends childcare, but I took him from is childcare of 3 1/2 years (no problems ever) to enroll him at summer camp. Since being in the Y’s summer camp he has learned hitting and bad words from being in this summer program. I’ve observed two boys hitting him while he was sitting on a slide when I arrived to pick him up one day and the counselor wasn’t paying attention. I mentioned it to her and the directors but that didn’t seem to prevent the bullying. When dropping my kids off I witnessed counselor say nothing to older kids yelling profanity and the counselors never really pay attention to the kids. The counselor are usually talking amongst each other. I started to ask my older son who is 12 if he can look out for his little brother and he’s come home and told me that my 4 year old was sitting on the ground when another kid came running past and snack him in the face. When my older son tried to intervene he was told that it was none of his business. I was told when my 4 year old was enrolled that the little ones are not around the older kids but the little ones were always with the older kids. My boys are no longer at this camp and it’s for the best. I’ve reached out to several management staff and I got either no response or feedback from staff who give me a hard time because I’ve been complaining about the service. I’ve also seen so many other parents complaining about issues with their little ones as well. This problem is bigger than me and someone should really try doing something about the Lack of Care at this summer camp.
We’re so sorry that summer camp did not meet your expectations. If you’d like to speak further about your concerns, please contact Darlyn Summers at [email protected].
Negative experience: Horrible summer camp experience to the point of neglect, we pulled our children for a variety of reasons including not having water on 90+ degree days, extensive bullying, sun burns, counselors ignoring the children, all 3 kids BEGGING to please not have to go... despite this being a free option to us through Wisconsin shares we have decided to cobble together summer care with friends and relatives and pay what we can out of pocket just to avoid the trauma of this camp to our children continuing. They will claim they are sorry and want to talk but we sent numerous emails to camp leadership outlining complaints in detail with no change in the treatment of our kids. We have a phone call out to the director of the west suburban ymca and it’s been 5 days with no call back so take any bs copout they reply to here with a grain of salt. Lies and excuses... when other parents started to bring up concerns to eachother, serious safety concerns, in the app the camp uses the posts were deleted and treated as if they never happened. I would be seriously concerned for the safety and well being of any child who goes here. We are actually seeking therapy for one of our children after his experience here and another who had been potty trained for 5 years regressed to wetting accidents...
We’re so sorry that our camp did not meet your expectations. Please contact our leadership team if you’d like to speak further about your concerns.
